Little confused on what I need for my new phone coming Friday. Obviously, I have a host of Micro USB cables that I'd like to be able to use with my new phone. I assume there must be some adapter that is recommended.
I also need a cable to run from an Anker charger to my new phone.

Confused or not you really should spend some time reading through the other threads that are already here.
The situation has started to clear up quite a bit but all the info is already here.
I started to read through one of the threads but I just got more confused. Lots of talk about what wouldn't work and the one plus one cables being bad.
I'd be happy to research more on my own, if you could point me in the direction of a quality thread or post.

Essentially, some companies are producing USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables that don't meet the standards set out by the USB Consortium (made up of Google, Apple, and many other tech companies). These cables that don't meet the specification could allow a device (such as your phone) to try to pull too much current from a charger, USB port, or USB hub and thus damage them. Worst case scenario, they cause a charger to overheat and start a fire!
SO, your best bet is to buy USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables directly from Google or any of the cables Benson Leung (a Google engineer) has reviewed highly. It doesn't matter if they're USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1 as the Nexus 6P only supports the slower USB 2.0 speeds and it's all compatible!
Are there any certified adapters or recommendations on something that converts a Micro USB end to a Type-C end? I'd prefer to just extend the cables I already have rather than replace them.
I sadly have not seen a verified adapter yet. You could take a chance on buying some that haven't been disqualified and test them with this app, and return them if they fail. Otherwise, some people are keeping track of verified accessories on this spreadsheet and someone might find good adapters.

I looked through his profile and all of the reviews he's done and none of the adapters have met specifications. You might be better off going with cables instead of adapters.

All this info above is true. But just an FYI I've had my phone for about a month and only used the micro USB to c adapters (other than a couple times to test with the googled one ) since my case I got had the port too small for the Google charger to fit through and I've never had any issues. The charger or phone doesn't get any hotter or warmer. The phone does charge slower than the Google charger, but that's because the power adapters I'm using are about 1500mah bricks.
Just wanted to chime in that I was not able to get any of my microusb OTG cables working using an adapter. (2 different microusb F to usb-C M adapters purchased through Aliexpress) Perhaps I was just unlucky, though.
They seem to work for connecting to a computer. I also see videos from XDA's youtube channel where they use one of those adapters for connecting a 6p to a computer.
Strangely, one of the adapters shows that it's compliant through the aforementioned app!
The cables/adapters that are out of specification can work fine; but it all depends on how your devices, chargers, and hubs handle the incorrect cable. While you might get lucky and it'll work fine, you might also get unlucky!
Why take a chance? And why support companies that don't follow the rules?

While I went for the certified cables, most complain because we're spending 10+ on a cable we're used to buying for 4 or 5 bucks... For the longer cord.

Yes you have a valid point except that there are no certified adapters yet as far as I know. Which means for someone like me it's not about money, but it's about being able to use micro USB still since practically every other devices I have uses that still. Ie tablet, controllers, remotes.

We all have different scenarios. I like to have at minimum a charger in car, bedroom, living room, computer desk, bathroom with shower, work, kitchen and battery pack in backpack. I'm not carrying around an extra cable for each place.

I know where you are coming from, that's one of the reasons why I sold all of my mirco USB phones/tablets (my Nexus 6 and Shield Tablet LTE). I have 1 good USB-A to USB-C cable 2 USB C-C wall chargers, and a USB C battery pack along with 4 C-C cables.
Sill looking for good replacement USB C wall chargers. Anybody got a lock on some good quality ones?

I have a feeling that the Google chargers will be the best quality ones you can get. I have both of the Google chargers - the single port and dual port - and have had great results with both.
I saw a few type c chargers from chotech on amazon.com the other day. No clue if they are any good though.

No, that was posted well after I bought and received them.
Hmm, perhaps it is time to see if I can return them. Still have the original packaging.
With all these high power requirements I think we need to be careful what we buy. We know certain parts of the world will cut corners to make a quick buck at the expense of frying our hardware.
I'll stay with the cables that come in the box for now, until we have more choices, though I'm hurting for a cable for the car.

Please post if you find anything good for the car. Either a new type C charger and type C at both ends cable or a type C to type A cable that works well and doesn't fry anything. I have a Scosche 2.4A type A charger in the car which I think should be good enough provided I can find a good cable.

Look for a cable that states USB 2.0 and 2.4A charging. At least those will work with the car charger you have without frying it. I think I saw one by iOrange on Amazon.

Thanks! Does USB 2.0 really matter in this case if all I'm using it for is charging? I doubt these car chargers have any smarts in them to negotiate anything on the data pins, but maybe I'm wrong. I used charge only cables (from PortaPow) in the past with great success and from what I understand they only have 2 wires inside for the power pins.

Yes. As I understand it: The phone checks the cable and sees the 56kΩ pullup (resistor) built in the wire, so it uses the USB BC2.1 protocol over the Type-C USB 2.0 pins/wires to negotiate for the 2.4A charging. I pretty sure that's the process anyway.
To simplify it: The phone checks the cable for what kind of cable it is. It sees the resistor saying it's a legacy usb cable. It then negotiates w/ the charger using legacy usb charging specs to get the appropriate current.
I emailed PortaPow and they said they would have their *charge only* cables in 4-6 weeks. Both C to C and A to C. I pointed them to the Google engineer's reviews to make sure their cables are compliant and also asked them to put a slim USB C connector on them so that it fits through cases. LOL. We'll see what they come up with.

Thanks! Makes sense. I just hope it's enough to still add some charge to the battery while the phone is on running GPS/Waze and streaming music via Bluetooth. I faced a problem with my old N5 where the battery was going down while plugged in in the car, turns out the cable I was using (and thought to be of high quality OEM) could only deliver 600mA and the phone was using a bit over 800mA.
If an A to C cable can at least maintain the phone charge with the screen on, I'm OK for now until better solutions come along.

Anyone know of any available yet? I know USB C is fairly new technology so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even exist yet.
And for the sake of sharing and discussing - what power accessories do you have and what's important to you? Do you always want fast-charging or is that not important?

I never actually trust the quality of the cables that come with these chargers. Something about generic cables bugs the $#!% out of me (and no, I'm not one of those who use $200 Monster HDMI cables)
If not one with an integrated cable, I'd settle for a well built one (with a C Port) that will fit into a large wallet (and thin enough to fit next to the phone in a shirt pocket) like this one:

I have one of those and it seems mostly fine, the only frustrating thing is that you can't charge the power bank itself from a type A to C cable, even if it is spec compliant. Mine only seems to charge from a C to C cable. This seems to be confirmed by reviewers on Amazon too.

So far it works great. I just use the cable that came with my phone. It rapid charges just fine. Also I has a port for phones that use turbo charging and all. I can charge multiple phones at a time. I love it. Plus being 20100 mAh I can charge phones all weekend without having a wall charger. Fits in my cargo shorts side pocket just fine.

I just received my Nexus 6P couple of days ago, and have been enjoying every bit of it, as this is a major upgrade for me (coming from an LG L90). I am really new to the entire USB Type C arena, and I honestly feel like I am over-complicating things with this topic, but it is getting it bit overwhelming as I keep seeing all these reviews from various engineers at Google and other members of the community either saying a cable works, or ripping on them for not living up to specific specifications for the new technology.
I basically am looking for a couple of more cables, one which would be used simply on my laptop (HP Probook 4540s) and another would be used for my car. Are there recommended cables, and car charger the community here recommends that I can use? I am looking for something on the cheaper side, but I want to also respect the technology and my Nexus 6P and use what is best and recommended for the device.

If effect the cable would report to the phone/device being charged that it could pull more current than the charger or cable could cope with.

I have spent at least more than three hours looking over all the cables on that list, and it just seems like one way or another, some cable may not hash out to be good enough, I think I may just have to go the OEM route for this one, as pricey as it sounds...
Though, back to the car charger question, any recommendations there?

To my knowledge, there is only one charger which has been tested by Benson and passed / is recommended. http://amzn.com/B014F2NQ36
I use this one (http://amzn.com/B0179HN184) and have done my own testing on it, and found that it works fine, even using the type A port (with an OEM cable). By that I mean all ports delivered power within USB specifications and the ratings of the charger itself, even with multiple devices connected.

Does anyone know of any power banks with Type-C with a cable built into them? I can find a lot of them for MicroUSB and Lightning, but none for USB-C. (I ask because my previous phone had wireless charging, so I used a Qi power bank to avoid having to bring a cable with me, but I can't do that anymore.)

Have a look at eg. the iVoler 10000mAh Power Bank. This one doesn´t have a built in USB Type C cable but it offers a small cable which fits in every pocket. I guess that this is still better than nothing?

I had a 3,000 mah version of this that they don't seem to sell anymore for long nights out with my S6 Edge. I think OP is looking for something like this, so am I, since Amazon doesn't have a version with a USB C connector.

Yes, a Type-C version of that is exactly what I'm looking for. At this point, I'd even be happy with a MicroUSB one that had a slot to keep a MicroUSB-to-TypeC adapter in (like how some now have slots for MicroUSB-to-Lightning adapters).

Prior to owning that powerbank, I had this, which I later gave away to a friend with an iPhone. I'm wondering now if it's possible to just buy the USB C adapter and bin the lightning one that comes with it. Worth a try perhaps?

I think you misunderstand. This thread is not about finding a powerbank that have USB C port on it. It's about finding a powerbank that have a USB C cable permanently attached to it. Something like this, but USB Type-C:

I purchased Aukey power bank from amazon several months ago.. the specs are the following: 30000 Mah, 2 usb type A ( one of them supports qc 3.0) and usb type c slot, microusb port is for charging purposes. I'm very satisfied with the product and I recommend u to take a look at it.

Anyone who owns a nexus 6p and has tried to buy a longer usb a-c cable than the 6 inch cable that Google provide will know just how hard it is to find a good quality cable that meets the new usb-c standard and won't potentially fry there charging device by trying to pull 3 amps.
Google prevent the usb a-c cables from damaging charging devices by placing a 56 kohm resister in the usb c end of the cable and many cheap cables have failed to do this or they use the wrong value of resistor, there is a simple free app that allows nexus 6p owners to check cables to ensure they are safe to use. I am happy to report that these cables pass the safety checks and are safe to use with nexus 6p devices.
These particular cables are very well presented in a functional box, the larger of the two cables comes with a Velcro strap to help keep it from tangling very handy if your traveling or don't keep your cables constantly plugged in, this is a nice little touch from Choetech and adds to the premium feel of these cables.
Both cables feel like they're thick enough to withstand alot of heavy use and will hopefully last a long time, I tested both cables with my laptop and was getting good data transfer speeds and I have tested both with numerous different chargers and also get good charging speeds, very comparable to that of the Google provided cable.
I am very happy with these cables and hope to get alot of use out of them, I would quite happily recommended these to anyone after a usb a-c cable, I have seen many cables that are dearer than this for just one cable, here you get two really good quality cables for a value price. I got these cables at a discounted price for a honest unbiased review but I would quite happily pay full price for these.

Google prevent the usb a-c cables from damaging charging devices by placing a 56 kohm resister in the usb c end of the cable and many cheap cables have failed to do this or they use the wrong value of resistor, there is a simple free app that allows nexus 6p owners to check cables to ensure they are safe to use. I am happy to report that these cables pass the safety checks and are safe to use with nexus 6p devices.
These particular cables are very well presented in a functional box, the larger of the two cables comes with a Velcro strap to help keep it from tangling very handy if your traveling or don't keep your cables constantly plugged in, this is a nice little touch from Choetech and adds to the premium feel of these cables.

Have you by chance checked any other cables from usb-a to c that you have came across that you would recommend ? If you just use the app provided that means it is safe ?
Yes I also own a belkin 2m usb a-c cable that is very good but no better than the Choetech cables, the belkin cost me £15 though for just one cable as it was an emergency buy from maplins. I bought a cheap eBay cable originally, it worked with my old car charger but then my phone refused to charge from the Google usb c charger that night. A reboot fixed this issue but some research led me to discover the issue with usb a-c cables.
Because of the price and quality I highly recommend the Choetech cables.
Yes the checkr app let's you know if the cable is safe to use. You have to make sure it is connected to a computer / laptop for the app to work though, it won't work with a charging device.

I went for the 3.3ft USB-C to USB-A + 3.3ft USB-C to USB-C pack to go work with my Nexus 6P. Cables are a great length and I can leave it charging in the car while my passenger is using the phone at the same time. I am very happy with mine.

Yeah I also went for this combo pack. The cables are great and help me out around the house and in my car. The type C is in my car permanently from now on. Works great with their in car charger and charges the phone up in no time. The other one is in my work bag for emergencies. Definitely top quality products quality and worth getting.
