Hi,
I understand that the "Supercharge" charger is different to my Samsung charger (for example) as it supplies 40w, however can anyone tell me, is the supplied "Supercharge" type C cable any different from a normal type C USB cable.
I have a few expensive Anker corded type C tables, and I don't want to replace these if there is no difference between the "Supercharge" cable, and the normal type C cable.
Thanks!
I guess there is a difference between cables. I get "Super charging" with the original cable only. With all my other cables, phones says "Charging".
The cables are 5A cables. Most cables you find are not rated 5A. I bought a bunch of them in China and they works with other phones just fine.
Hi,
As told by previous posts, huawei fast charge 22W or 40W (maybe more with upcoming m30pro) only works with 5A compatible AND certified cables.
They're can be identified with the 'purple' color inside the connector - like the 'blue' in the 'fast usb DATA' standard 3.0 or above cables.
Usually they're (5A ones) also compatible with other 'quick charge' technology like samsung, etc.. except oneplus.
I've bought a bunch of them in China for good price (~2 or 3 usd) but be careful to check the 5A certification and avoid low-cost, it do not worth it... They'll not gonna worked or if...they'll be warm, hot or burn soon enough to regret the so little spared money between the certified ones.
The longest certified one I bought is 1,5m.
I looked for a 2m, but not working, but the cable sucked too.
May be a good fabric will do.
But keep in mind that for that kind of heavy intensity charge tech, size does matter... LoL... the shorter the better [emoji849]
I may wrong but the PD certified cables, v2 or v3 at least, could also work, because they aim to support 60W or 100W for the top quality ones.
But need to be checked.
Cheers
Edit : except it is a 'need' for 'now', I advise to wait for 2020 to renew your 'cable management library' with the USB 4 (if something change with this release) cables which will spread worldwide soon next year !!
Tapa'DoC'eD
I dont know about "certified" but all of my 5A cables work for supercharging.
I got this 2m one and it works fine.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NZB194V
I personally don't like fabric coverings as it feels like it will wear out faster.
I meant 'certified' like the 'build for' in a tech way, not like some others like lighting or hdmi which stand for 'have paid the taxes to be able to...'
[emoji846]
Thanks for the share.
The bought 2m one was just marked as 'work with' and of course received without the 'purple' connectors, and no fast charge. marketing ≠ technique. I'll take a look at your link.
Cheers

Thanks guys!
Yeah, find it weird that the Huawei cables don't allow a OnePlus phone to quick charge...
I thought we were supposed to be steering away from this rubbish.

Do they really super charge or just regularly charge?
The main reason for doubting is that Huawei already complains about compatible USB headset which isn't from Huawei. I would guess they could easily filter out if the cable is Huawei or not. The USB cables provide some information (or IDs) which the interface could read. Therefore I would guess Huawei is filtering out what belongs to them and what not. If they do it on the headset why not as well on the charging cables?
Anyway... The q remains: Does it really work?
Yes really. It says supercharging on the screen and it charges my phone in an hour vs several hours
This cable works for sure
Got it recently and it does supercharge.

I'm searching for a USB Type C battery pack with the cable built in like one of these micro-usb packs :

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007G51XOO...olid=2QEYCHUX5AT8W&coliid=IT14WCFNY6FJM&psc=1
Anyone know of any available yet? I know USB C is fairly new technology so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even exist yet.
And for the sake of sharing and discussing - what power accessories do you have and what's important to you? Do you always want fast-charging or is that not important?
If you already have battery packs like I do, I bought a few extra micro usb to USB c connectors to use with them.
I just use the small cable that came with the phone with my anker pack
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Free mobile app
Has anyone found any of these since the OP posted this question a few months ago?
I want one too!
I will try it!
I never actually trust the quality of the cables that come with these chargers. Something about generic cables bugs the $#!% out of me (and no, I'm not one of those who use $200 Monster HDMI cables)
If not one with an integrated cable, I'd settle for a well built one (with a C Port) that will fit into a large wallet (and thin enough to fit next to the phone in a shirt pocket) like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/mophie-Powerstation-Smartphones-Tablets-000/dp/B019I6RN10
Anyone know of one this size with a C-Port?

I have one of those and it seems mostly fine, the only frustrating thing is that you can't charge the power bank itself from a type A to C cable, even if it is spec compliant. Mine only seems to charge from a C to C cable. This seems to be confirmed by reviewers on Amazon too.

So far it works great. I just use the cable that came with my phone. It rapid charges just fine. Also I has a port for phones that use turbo charging and all. I can charge multiple phones at a time. I love it. Plus being 20100 mAh I can charge phones all weekend without having a wall charger. Fits in my cargo shorts side pocket just fine.
Ports:
micro USB in(for charging the battery)
USB c 3A (can also use this to charge the battery)
Quick charge USB port (5v, 9v, 12v)
Ismart (2.4v)

I find there to be no use with needing the stock charger over the 15w one from Google. Some may argue, well the type c cable is attached to the wall adapter. Sure, but what are you going to plug your phone into that has another type c port? I get your macbook has a type c port but it isnt as common as the type a usb port.

well i don't know how you can claim the stock charger is compact (it's easily 2x longer than the stock nexus 6 charger), but i do like that the plug is removable. the replacement they're selling on the google store has a hard-wired cable. it works and is good, but i don't care for the hard wired part
I could safely bet that Huawei made a deal with Google that they wont sell the stock charger so that Google can make more accessory sales.
You can always buy the dual port charger from Google (https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_dual_port_charger). Yes its more expensive, but comes with an extra long cable, and the way USB C is going you'll have more USB C devices in the future for that extra port to be useful.

I would buy the 2 port if not for the reports that only one of the ports supports rapid charging. I don't want to have to constantly make sure I have the "right" cable (will be using one for macbook and 1 for phone.)

Yeah, well its is only a 22.5Wmax charger so having only one port supporting rapid charge makes sense.
If you need to identify cables that are identical you can always just put some colored tape around the ends or a sticker.
As you have a Macbook, you can probably find better USB C solutions for your needs; the Google Store page does say that "Wattage is optimized for smaller devices, like phones and tablets. Larger devices, such as laptops, will take longer to charge."
Not available unfortunately. Google charger is basically your only 15w charging solution right now. If you can wait a month I bet we'll see that change.

I got one yesterday will test it today and let you know. My understanding was that either port could rapid charge, but when you have two devices only one will rapid charge but the charger would rapid charge the device with the least amount of battery.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It seems, based on reviews here, that only one port will actually rapid charge regardless of your devices charge or which device was plugged in first. That might not be so bad (and expected given the rated wattage) but the charger isn't labeled to tell you which port is the rapid charge one and isn't sold with an explanation describing the situation.

I just tested this and you are absolutely right, the second port only charges whereas the first port rapidly charges. Now wondering if I should return it and save some cash and get the single port charger. Although it still seems like a handy device to have when wall outlets are limited.

For me, It's not really about unplugging the cable to use for something else. Cables go bad. If the cable goes bad, the whole charger is shot. That's a bit of a waste to me. Also, you can't buy different length cables for the charger either.

Considering that the Google Dual Port Charger does not support 3A on both ports and it is likely the 6P and 5X might be the only 5V/3A devices you might every see, it would have made much more sense for the this charger to have 1-3A Type C port and 1-2.4A Type A port!

That would make much more sense.
The weird thing is that it leaves 7.5W if you're fast charging your nexus, but as USB-C which is not widespread, so...
My theory, I think the dual port charger is future proofing for wearables with USB C charging ports. Most Qi android wear docks run at 5v/.55a or so, which is well within the 7.5W possible. Looking at it that way, its a phone + wearable dualport charger.
It also aligns perfectly with the real (not google) USB C standard of 5v/1.5a.
FYI,
I ran across this charger today on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Type-C-Charger-CHOE-Charger-Adapter-Included/dp/B017I7EX46
So far, it doesn't have any reviews (all the reviews are for the Type A charger), but it's also saying that the estimated delivery date is Nov 25 - Dec 8. So, I guess it's shipping directly from China. I ordered one anyway. Worst case is that I'm out $17.
Not only does the one port work for 3A (the one closest to the white Google face logo), the charger must be in the wall before connecting to phone. If not, it will max out at 1.5A.
With the stock charger, it doesn't matter.
Little confused on what I need for my new phone coming Friday. Obviously, I have a host of Micro USB cables that I'd like to be able to use with my new phone. I assume there must be some adapter that is recommended.
I also need a cable to run from an Anker charger to my new phone.
Thanks!
Confused or not you really should spend some time reading through the other threads that are already here.
The situation has started to clear up quite a bit but all the info is already here.
I started to read through one of the threads but I just got more confused. Lots of talk about what wouldn't work and the one plus one cables being bad.
I'd be happy to research more on my own, if you could point me in the direction of a quality thread or post.
Thanks
Essentially, some companies are producing USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables that don't meet the standards set out by the USB Consortium (made up of Google, Apple, and many other tech companies). These cables that don't meet the specification could allow a device (such as your phone) to try to pull too much current from a charger, USB port, or USB hub and thus damage them. Worst case scenario, they cause a charger to overheat and start a fire!
SO, your best bet is to buy USB Type-A to USB Type-C cables directly from Google or any of the cables Benson Leung (a Google engineer) has reviewed highly. It doesn't matter if they're USB 2.0, 3.0, or 3.1 as the Nexus 6P only supports the slower USB 2.0 speeds and it's all compatible!
Are there any certified adapters or recommendations on something that converts a Micro USB end to a Type-C end? I'd prefer to just extend the cables I already have rather than replace them.
I sadly have not seen a verified adapter yet. You could take a chance on buying some that haven't been disqualified and test them with this app, and return them if they fail. Otherwise, some people are keeping track of verified accessories on this spreadsheet and someone might find good adapters.

I looked through his profile and all of the reviews he's done and none of the adapters have met specifications. You might be better off going with cables instead of adapters.
Thanks you were both very helpful!
All this info above is true. But just an FYI I've had my phone for about a month and only used the micro USB to c adapters (other than a couple times to test with the googled one ) since my case I got had the port too small for the Google charger to fit through and I've never had any issues. The charger or phone doesn't get any hotter or warmer. The phone does charge slower than the Google charger, but that's because the power adapters I'm using are about 1500mah bricks.
Just wanted to chime in that I was not able to get any of my microusb OTG cables working using an adapter. (2 different microusb F to usb-C M adapters purchased through Aliexpress) Perhaps I was just unlucky, though.
They seem to work for connecting to a computer. I also see videos from XDA's youtube channel where they use one of those adapters for connecting a 6p to a computer.
Strangely, one of the adapters shows that it's compliant through the aforementioned app!
The cables/adapters that are out of specification can work fine; but it all depends on how your devices, chargers, and hubs handle the incorrect cable. While you might get lucky and it'll work fine, you might also get unlucky!
Why take a chance? And why support companies that don't follow the rules?

While I went for the certified cables, most complain because we're spending 10+ on a cable we're used to buying for 4 or 5 bucks... For the longer cord.

Yes you have a valid point except that there are no certified adapters yet as far as I know. Which means for someone like me it's not about money, but it's about being able to use micro USB still since practically every other devices I have uses that still. Ie tablet, controllers, remotes.

I have a feeling that the Google chargers will be the best quality ones you can get. I have both of the Google chargers - the single port and dual port - and have had great results with both.
I saw a few type c chargers from chotech on amazon.com the other day. No clue if they are any good though.

Choetech 29W USB-C Power Delivery (PD) Fast Charger
Good decided to change their charging spec again this year in a good way. The Pixel/Pixel XL now properly support USB PD over both 5V and now 9V as you can see by the included charger with both phones. Last year’s Nexus 5X/6P only supported 5V/3A i.e. 15W, but this year Google bumped it up to 18W which in theory will give you more efficient charging at a faster rate due to the reduction of heat at higher voltages.
Choetech made a USB-C PD charger that supports a broad range of USB-C compatible devices, none of which I own aside from the Pixel XL since the Nexus 6P seems to be picky about what fast charges it and what doesn’t.
In the box:
USB C-C 1[m] cable
29W USB PD Charger
Documentation
The charger has more of a dual tone/texture with a smoother plastic on the bottom rim, and a textured one everywhere else. One thing that is hard to miss is the physical size of this charger; it dwarfs Google’s stock one, and even some other multiport chargers. This could be due to the tech required for a 29W charger, although I’m not exactly sure why it’s so large with only a single USB-C Port.
On the front you will of course find the USB-C port, and above it a subtle blue charging LED. As we turn to the back there is a handy fold away 2-prong wall plug that should be convenient if you travel a lot.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a way to really test the voltages like I did for previous phones because the USB-C PD spec makes it difficult. I know there is a way to check the voltages via a USB-PD power sniffer, yet I wasn’t about to spend ~$300+ on something that I wouldn’t use that often.
Here is the rated charging output:
5V/3A
9V/2A
14.5V/2A
Overall this charger works as it should, and despite its large size it would still be great for travel/bringing to work due to the folding plug in the back.
Choetech USB A-C Braided Cable 3-Pack
Last year we had to deal with non-compliant USB A-C cables everywhere in addition to a wider adoption of the USB-C spec for phones. Now, the majority of companies are on board, and meeting the USB spec thanks to Benson Leung.
I purchased a figurative ton of cables last year in an attempt to replace my then irrelevant Micro USB cables. I spent a good amount of money and time finding quality cables which at the time were very expensive. Choetech sent me a 3 pack of braided USB A-C cables that are nearly identical in quality to the i-Orange ones I paid $12-18 for each last year, yet now you can get a 3 pack for the price of just one cable.
Braided cables looks better, are generally more durable/expensive than your traditional USB-C cable. The ones I was sent feature a metal housing that feels solid, and looks great. I tested all 3 cables with a multimeter to ensure they were allowing the proper current to be pulled i.e. they have a 56K ohm-m resistor which is what Benson Leung checks for.
Choetech USB-C (2.0) Cable 2 Pack
If you want to rapidly charge (fast charge/quick charge) your Pixel/Pixel XL, then you need to use a USB C-C cable. This 2-pack contains both a 2[m], and 1[m] USB C-C cable that both allow your Pixel to quick charge on both the stock charger, and 29W one that Choetech also offers. I verified that rapid charging shows up on my phone no matter which cable I use (Choetech, or OEM Google) as they should. The only downside I can find is these only support USB 2.0 data transfer speeds not 3.0 which is fine because most people don’t have a USB-C port on their laptop/PC. These cables aren’t braided like the USB A-C ones, but they still feel nice. I’ve actually owned a number of these dating back to the early days of my Nexus 6P, and they have held up well over time. None of my cables have frayed, broken, or otherwise had issues over the past year. These cables are premium in the sense that they will last a long time despite not looking as nice as some other offerings. I keep one of these and a variety of cables, chargers, and adapters with me in my work bag just in case I might need one during the day, or when I’m out in the field.
Choetech USB C-A Adapter
USB C-A adapters aren’t the most common things you might need, yet they’re still very useful if you need to plug a flash drive into your phone, or another peripheral.
Choetech sells a small 3-Pack of these adapters which come in gold, blue, and black. Personally I prefer a more subtle color like black, although having a choice between colors can be refreshing. Each adapter is made in such a way that it should work with most cases. I was able to use it on my Nexus 6P with a Spigen Rugged Armor case, but it wouldn’t fit in my Pixel XL’s Speck Presidio (YMMV).
Both of my phones were able to instantly recognize any flash drive I plugged into them via these adapters unlike some of the earlier ones (I own one that’s very picky) that were very inconsistent. I then decided to test one of these USB C-A adapters on my desktop since my motherboard has a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port. I was able to plug my flash drive into the adapter, and use it without any problems (see pictures below).
Overall these adapters are more of a convenience than a necessity for most people, but it’s always good to be prepared. If you do get one, Choetech makes a strong case with their nice metal compact package.
Here is the adapter with my Nexus 6P (I used my Pixel XL to take all of the pictures in this OP at night with less than ideal lighting)
I have a USB-C port on my motherboard, so I decided to test the adapter (shown below for reference)
Congrats on the free swag, but terrible review. People on xda @ google pixel want to know whether it can safely fast charge their phones. For instance see Bensen review .
I've been using the Motorola Turbo Charger and it charges the Pixel far faster than the included Pixel charger.

I find that hard to believe for a variety of reasons. First you're using an A-C cable which limits you to 1.5A charging i.e. 7.5WSecondly the included pixel charged will outputs 18W in phases so it will push 9V/2Aor 5V/3A depending in what the phone is requesting from it via PD.
I have a Motorola Turbo charger so I can easily prove my point with really data if need be.

I doubt this as well. Unless you have real data, I wouldn't be making these claims. Simply seeing "charging rapidly" is NOT indicative of ANYTHING. I have gotten this message to occur falsely before with chargers.
It shows "rapidly charging"

I got this 29W PD charger and charged my Pixel XL rapidly. I hope I can get a USB C amperemeter to get some real data.
Any recommendations on a car charger that will fast charge the pixel as well as the 6p

Hmm that looks exactly like the spigen one. I wonder if they are from the same manufacturers. Thanks for the suggestion.

Get a USB Doctor or USB Ampere Sleeve, they are kinda cheap and work well. Let us know how well it works and if you can compare it to the stock one would be awesome. The Review doesn't say much about how well it works..
Edit; they only cost ~$5 and work great, the oled gives the best readout

Turbo 15, 25 or 30? Do you know if the others work and charge any quicker?

I just ordered a Turbo 30 off Verizon site, it's 50% off, it's USB C and says it is Power Delivery compliant. For only $20, it's worth a try.
Anyone, find a longer type C cable to replace the one shipped with our Mate 9? I just purchased a 2 meter cable from Bestbuy that was certified fast charge but it does not show up as Supercharge when charging. I noticed that our cables actually have 5A molded into the cable at the type C end and the one I purchased from Bestbuy was rated at 3A. I Googled but could not find anything. Just wandering if anyone else has found anything.
Thanks, Dhatw.
Looking for this myself for a while now. Actually I'm looking for any charger that supports the super charge feature, regardless of length.
Be careful if ordering off of Amazon, I bought one that was supposedly an OEM Huawei Mate 9 charger, but it wasn't. Slow charging...
I believe I read that Supercharge connectors have extra pins that aren't on a standard type-C cable, so you may need proprietary cables.
None of my longer usb c cables supercharge.
Not horrible speed though, about the same speed of my nexus 6p with quickcharge.

One of the very unfortunate parts of having this SuperCharge technology is that only Huawei's cables and chargers will work with it. I have seen some on Aliexpress, but I don't think they were longer than the original. I've also never found the car charger for sale.
I agree that a "regular" type C fast charge cable is not too bad as far as charging speeds. I just didn't want to mess anything up and also would like to get all that I can from my phone and charger. I emailed Huawei to ask them if they have a longer cable but don't expect a positive reply if at all.
Dhatw.
This is the first phone with Supercharge. With the P10 about to come out, and probably more, perhaps Supercharge accessories may become a little easier to come by before too long, due to increased demand/market.
Where do most people place their supercharge? I find that when I do need to fast charge, it's either at work or while I am away from home. At home, I just leave it on the charger over night, so I do not see a need for it to be at home. Also, I heard that leaving it on supercharge over night could eventually cause a quicker wear and tear on the battery as opposed to just standard charging?
Anyone else do the same thing?
I have mine at home for when I need a quick charge, but I normally use slower chargers, as I believe it's better for the battery. I also normally only charge to about 90% or so, and don't let it get below about 40%, unless I know I'm going to need a full charge. I most commonly need a quick charge in the car, but that doesn't seem to be available yet.
SuperCharge ONLY works with the Huawei charger brick, and Huawei USB A to C cable.
With that said, USB PD works with this device quite well. My Pixel XL charger actually puts more current/power into the Mate 9 than it does my Pixel XL! Measured at the wall, the Pixel XL maxes out at about 18W... the Mate 9 hits 20W. It's not as good as SuperCharge, but it's close. There aren't too many reputable, good type C chargers available right now, so your best bet is to buy the charger on the Google Store for $35 that comes with a quality 6 foot USB C cable as well. I personally have Apple's 6.6 foot/2M cable as it is the longest/best charging cable for type C you can buy right now at $19.

Is that safe tho? I know there was a story the htc 10 was charged with a nexus charger and it made the phone incredibly hot.

I haven't noticed any issues. The phone doesn't really get warm either. This is using an e-marked (chipped) cable as well, so if it fails, it's Huawei's fault for breaking USB spec.
Has to be a certain gauge or something for this cable.
A few popped up on Amazon, anyone tested any of these longer cables out?

Thanks, order placed. I expect it will fast charge, but not supercharge.
I bought a couple of these on AliExpress, they look excactly the same (so they are 'short') and they do work with SuperCharge, very happy with them!
I think you would need a REALLY REALLY thick cable if you want to charge with 5 A and have a longer cable.

I got mine yesterday. Seems to fast charge. So no real difference from super charge. The 6 foot C to C cable seems solid.

Thanks, can you download Ampere and check out the actual charging current with the phone in airplane mode, screen brightness at minimum and the battery at 50%?
Stock cable should give about 4300-4400mA
