All videos on Oneplus 6 are broken after stock flash - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

So I installed pix3fy on my Oneplus 6 a while ago. It worked fine, but I realized if I ever Uninstalled it I would brick my phone, so that's what happened. I got it out of the way so I wouldn't have to deal with it at an inconvenient time. Anyway, after I've slashed stokc firmware, it seems some sort of video module on my phone is broken. Whether it's an mp4, YouTube, twitch etc. It has no sound as is extremely choppy. This even carries over to Spotify. Is something on my phone corrupted? How do I fix this?

Some got it fixed by flash-all.bat
Or used msm download tool.
Some others had motherboard problems and got it replaced ?*

Video playback stopped working (Fixed?)

Recorded a video which seemed to go fine. Tried to play it back and got nothing but a black screen. So, tried playing a YouTube vid. Same thing, just a black screen. Tried a Watch preview, black screen. Tried a Flash video in the browser, same deal. Reboot, try again, still black. ??????????
Figured I'd be doing a factory reset, formatting the SD, who knows?
So, shutdown, pull battery, pull and re-seat the SD a couple of times, reboot. Now video plays fine again in all of the above apps.
Just an FYI.
Edit: Last night I turned off the phone and charged it overnight. Tried playing video this morning and the problem is back. Nothing but a black screen in all video playback. Going to format the SD and see if that helps.
No one else has seen this?
Update: Formatted SD yesterday morning, since then video has played perfectly.

Tried playing a vid I recorded on the phone, as well as YouTube, Watch, and flash in the browser. All just show a black screen.
Yes, with three factory fresh T-Mobile phones and SIM cards.
I can't trace it to anything in particular, but I am not letting it update itself. I am NOT an Android or HTC expert. And once it happens, the video playback is trashed until I do a factory reset.
T-Mobile tech support said this is a KNOWN issue, they have many identical complaints, and the best they can offer is to wait for FW fix.
A factory reset will fix the issue with all playback sources I have tried, but I can't tie it down to what triggers it. Rumors include Flash Player other than what is stock, YouTube app, etc., as well as an obscure sound notification checkbox in settings.
You can't just "re-choose" or "confirm" your phone as the player either - that did not work for me. T-Mobile knows its an issue, for whatever comfort that gives you.
Interestingly, it never makes the camera malfunction for snapshots.
Tough call, since HD recording is a huge selling point of this phone. I have not tried to download a video to my computer to see if it plays. I can't assume it is corrupted since it may have been playing fine all along, but I probably should check.
Also, other media players can't seem to play it either in the phone, but I am no expert their on choices.

Interesting.
I called HTC and they diagnosed it as a bad SD card. Shipping me a new one under warranty.
Called TMO and the CSR looked up known issues and this wasn't on her list. So, some conflicting info apparently from TMO.
Did a reformat of the SD and video is working for now. But then just popping the SD last night fixed it until this morning. So, we'll see.
I've ordered a 16Gb SD, and will be getting a replacement 8Gb from HTC, so will have a couple of cards to play with. I hope it's a flaky SD, since that's easily fixed.
Goto Settings>Sounds
And turn off Audible Selection.
See if that works.
Its working for me.
I had the same issue until I did it.

So is "Restart" more like removing the battery? I did try a power off/on yesterday and it didn't fix the problem. Then resorted to popping the battery and SD, which did temporarily fix it. But based on a post in another thread, and the slower boot, it appears a restart is actually a more thorough reset than power off, which seems backwards. If so, good to know.
Regardless, having to reset the phone to make vids play is not acceptable. The real problem needs to be identified by HTC and fixed.

yes restart closes all apps and make things work again i did let htc know and they said they will escalate the problem to the proper resources to be fixed in and update they also told me the sensation will be getting a update before august
Update: Since I formatted my SD card yesterday morning video playback has worked perfectly. Will update again as needed.
Update2: Now I really have a black screen. Phone totally died this morning. Went to TMO store and swapped batteries, nothing. Door nail. Called TMO and it will be a week before I can get a replacement.

I really like the phone. Best phone available in the US for me. So, don't want to kiss it goodbye quite yet.
What I don't like is the replacement policy. TMO CSR told me all the stores are privately owned, and aren't actually part of T-Mobile. Since I purchased through Customer Care over the phone the store won't do a replacement. Ok, but they could ship me a replacement right away for a confirmed at the store dead phone, and charge my credit card full retail price if I don't return the bad one. Two hours on the phone and waiting a week for a replacement isn't a positive customer experience.
Well, something got changed with mine because none of that stuff worked for me, but now I no longer have issues with video. My rep said it was known. We did try the "Audible Selection" possibility but no help. I had to do a factory reset.
Maybe a flash issue, maybe a small FW push, I don't know.
I'm too new to Android to hack around and see, coming over from the Windows 6.5 crowd.
We'll see, but I think at going on 3 weeks if it was going to fail it would by now.

[Q] No audio, motherboard defect or other hardware issue?

I've had my Skyrocket (I727-R) for little over a year now. Bought it used. For the first seven or so months everything seemed to work fine. I had no issues and was flashing ROMs fine. Around November last year, I attempted listening to music only to realize that I couldn't hear anything from my earbuds. At first I thought it may have been my crappy old earbuds so I tried playing music without the earbuds and making a call. The other side could hear me but I could not hear anything. Since then, I've taken it back to the place I bought it from and they have been co-operative. Usually they charge for diagnostics and such but since I was a recurring customer they did it for free. Anyways, at first, it seemed like they had fixed it by replacing the speaker. They also wiped my SD, flashed the phone back to GB and told me not to root or update the software. I didn't see why it would be an issue however so I used Odin to update to stock JB and root, flashed some ROMs, etc. The audio worked for a day and stopped again while listening to music the next day. I took it back to them and they said it was a motherboard defect and would cost as much as a new phone to replace the motherboard.
I am currently running Dirty Unicorns 4.4.2, 20140331-0105, radio is T989UVMC6 (I'm on Mobilicity's network)
My question is, is there anyway I can be 100% sure it is a motherboard issue? And if it isn't, how can i fix the audio? If it is in fact the motherboard, what is the recommended course of action?
Thanks.

[Q] Sound and Video Problem

Hello~ >.< So I'm not really sure how to explain this problem much as I don't understand its origin, but I have been having a problem with my sound and video.
I don't really use my tablet for much except watching shows from apps like Viki, Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube, and I don't travel with it. Starting yesterday my sound began to act very weird... I had been on Netflix when I first noticed it and for some reason all of the voices were unusually deep. I had turned on my computer to check if it was just that video, but on my computer everything was normal. I tried to restart my tablet and then a new problem came up. Not only were my videos now producing no sound, but they also we're playing VERY fast.. what was supposed to be a 15 second ad became 2 according to the timer. Thinking again that it may just be Netflix, I tried other apps like Hulu for example. With Hulu, the video wouldn't really load at all. It played the ad as mentioned above, but when the video came up, the screen remained black and silent before telling me that Hulu has crashed. I tried this a few times, but no luck. Thinking over the possibility that the speaker blew out, I tried using three different types of headphones, and tried all of my apps again, but still nothing. I previously had looked up this problem, but I could not find a matching thread so I decided that whatever happened could be fixed by a factory reset, which I tried, but to just my luck, it did nothing.. again. Hoping it would just go away, I also tried leaving it alone for awhile x.x which was almost a given to not work... and now I'm completely out of ideas :/ Has anyone else experienced an issue like this and would know any way I could fix it? If possibly I'd really like to know how as I do not have the budget to buy a new one at the moment >.< If any additional information is required, please feel free to ask.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that my notification sound has stopped too >_< All volume is set a bit over half..
Biggest problem, not enough info. ........
On tablet itself.
Model, size, root/no root, custom or stock recovery, rom.
Network or WiFi only?
Pp.
Model: Samsung GT-P3113
Version: Android 4.2.2

Size: 3.55 In. Width
5.81 in Height

Processor: ARMv Processor rev 3
Stock Recovery
ROM:.. Not completely sure how to find this out >.< Sorry
Too much info. Lol.
If no rooting or flashing or custom roms to blame or point a finger to it could be your tablet is possessed! Just kidding. ¿
Sounds like it could be a physical hardware issue, processor, sound chip, motherboard, who knows.
It would not hurt to root and flash stock firmware and see if that fixes it (not if its hardware ) but may be worth a chance.
You could open up the tab and look for something loose or disconnected.
Only positive feedback may come from someone that had the exact same issue you have, it may be a long time before that happens.

has it commited suicide?

i was on the phone to my mum and suddenly i couldnt hear her. thought it was signal so hug up tried again etc... nothing...
the ringtone when she phoned back was all glitchy.
i tried playing music and it wont, like the track wont start.
i tried playing a video i recorded earlier and its all jumpy and glitchy both video and sound.. tried rebooting, tried reflashing the latest ftf. still the same...
any ideas anyone?
Even youtube videos won't start
Sounds like my issue from my first phone bud, but mine acted normal after the water dried. Make sure the headphone jack and USB port are completely dry if you dipped into water prior to this issue.
I reflashed the uk generic ftf file of the original firmware the phone came with thanks to scuzball101 and it seems to be working again, so I'll keep an eye on it, maybe it's a bug in the latest firmware?
It hasn't been in water since i put that video up and has been perfect ever since so fingers crossed it shouldn't be that
Well I'm still running the CE5 updated firmware and I've had no such issues.
I didn't even wipe userdata, apps log, etc, and it's working fine.

Neither did i and everything was running perfectly until mid phone call. And nothing but downgrading firmware would solve the problem which is weird

Phone stutters/crashes downloading large files

I am on the latest stock 8.1. I've noticed recently that when I download "large" files (let's say over 200mb), the phone will often become slow and unresponsive - and I've even had it force reboot. This can happen when downloading movies on Netflix to view offline, or when downloading files through Chrome for example.
The larger the files, the worse it becomes... The time the phone kept rebooting, the file was over 1GB. I don't know exactly when this started, but I'm sure I used to be able to download movies on Netflix without any problems.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Not had this problem. I'd say try reflashing stock tbh.
I am having this same issue. I'll be downloading a large file and the phone will lag and then finally freeze up and then it'll reboot. Have you still been having the issue?

Yeah, still have it. I don't do many downloads so I haven't got around to a factory reset yet. Maybe that'll fix it.
It's almost like the phone completely runs out of resources... I've monitored RAM usage during the download though and it seems OK. Really odd one... maybe a future update might sort it.
Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead, but I have this issue too, and I can confirm that a factory reset does not fix it.

I'd only just noticed there was another reply to this. Indeed, a factory reset doesn't solve it - I think there's something fundamentally wrong with the OS trying to write large files to storage. For most people this won't be an issue as the average phone user is unlikely to download 1 or 2GB at a time. There are other posts related to trying to copy large files (such as movies) to their phone over a USB cable so I suspect it's not just related to downloading over a network. It's more of a general I/O issue - and it's really annoying when you need to genuinely download such large files.

Not that I'm aware of, sorry. I'm on the latest 9.0 release (November update for OG Pixel) and it's exactly the same. I noticed a slight improvement after a factory reset but it wasn't a permanent fix. I'm not sure if the issue gets worse the less free space is on the phone... I'm currently running at about 85% used storage as I'm on the 32gb model.
I'm having the same problem. Is there any way to solve it or work around it?
Still have this problem, I wonder if Lineage OS would fix the issue? If anyone could test this, that would be amazing. I'm on stock 8.1 now (don't want to upgrade) and I'm glad to know it's not my version of Android. The issue happens when the phone tries to write large files to the storage ie. downloading very large apps (guesing about >500mb?) or recording high resolution video on the camera. Recording 4K video softbricks the phone into a bootloop, I switched it to 1080p but I don't want to test if it still bricks the phone, but I did notice that at 1080p60 I could record <30 sec and be okay. My phone storage is always around or above 70% full.
Hey guys who are experiencing this issue - this is NOT due to the device not accepting large files. It's a sign of emmc going out. The way I proved this on one of my bootlooping pixels is unlocking the bootloader and flashing for example any kind of rom. If it crashes right away while flashing, this is proving that there is a defect in the emmc. This issue is very lightly documented but it was very tragic to the 6P and it feels very weird that this issue has been ported over to the Pixel because at the same time, it looks pretty rare and pretty common. I'd say back up all your stuff immediately and if you are on warranty get a RMA because this is completely ridiculous. This seems to be more apparent in devices that were exposed to moisture, even though it would be a extreme death if it was dropped in water, it looks like the device can die very easily from simply moisture. Hardware fails over time, my bro in law said that best.
Is there truly no solution to this issue?
I'm using an UMIDIGI A7 Pro and I have this problem
Note 3 32gb here this sounds like what I am having issue with my phone when I write to micro SD anything over 10 mb it reboots. Saving to emmc does not only when writing to micro SD. Moving it from onboard to SD triggers it too. After reboot it transfers and downloads fine.
Got a 512gb card today formatted in phone storage and my crashes are gone.
