What do you not like about EMUI?
EMUI is the UI overlay that Honor uses for their phones. EMUI features Huawei Home, phone manager, themes, media apps, and is heavily baked in to the entire system UI. While EMUI has a lot of great features to offer (Screen recording, gesture controls, camera app ect.) many people have serious complaints about it.
In this thread, go ahead and share the things you don't like about EMUI and what you would change. I know people from Honor will be seeing this, so try to make it detailed with screenshots and stuff.
EMUI Themes
The themes app on EMUI has always been bad. A custom theme will change the wallpaper, Lock screen, and icon pack. While there's usually a few nice wallpapers to choose from, the icons packs are all ugly and too similar to even bother changing. It kind of makes the whole theme engine pointless.
Customizing Icons
You can customize your icons to a small extent in the themes app. This is limited to putting a frame around them, and your options are sometimes pretty hilariously bad. One option lets you put a head of hair on every single icon.
It would be nice to see flat, better looking icons with the 3D gradient that they all currently have. Ditch the rounded corners and go with a more up-to-date style.
EMUI is well known for it's customization but things changed With EMUI 8/9, The Notification panel and Settings icons lookalike Samsung UI. Inability to change these Icons including Status bar, Navbars icons via Themes is another huge drawback coming from EMUI 5.1
Below are the screenshots, left side is from EMUI 9 while the right is EMUI 5.1

If Magic UI is going to be the future of EMUI, then bringing back these features would be an great addition.!

These are exact things I hate to. I used to make themes when EMUI is more customisable. I really loved how it allowed me to mimic whatever UI look I like. All I needed to do is to design the similar vectors and make a theme file.
You can still change the icon pack by selecting icons when creating the theme but not any UI elements like Navigation Bar , Status bar icons , Notification Panel , QS Tiles ..
When EMUI 8.1 got released I was excited to see what additional customisation they added and brutally disappointed by knowing all the customisation and themes I made are now gone.
Upgrading means adding additional useful features not removing the old wonderful customisations. I just wish atleast with EMUI 10 they do things differently .
My first impression was that they removed the UI customisations so third party themes usage gets reduced apps from themes app gets benefited but I don't understand how that helps them.
And till EMUI 8 the external theme engine pluging called 'zooking engine' used to be optional but now it gets installed everytime without my permission . I don't use any dynamic lock screen themes so I don't need any third party plugin but there is no way to remove it
I also don't like how the screensaver functionality of EMUI limits it select only a picture slideshow whereas the AOSP allows to select screensaver from third party apps like Clock or any other screensaver app.
EMUI has the app drawer disabled by default. This is obviously started when they were trying to be iPhone clones back in the day. When you do activate the app drawer, the app drawer icon is so ugly. It should be a swipe up gesture or something similar. Then you wouldn't have to choose between the two anyways.

EMUI is Bloated. Like HEAVILY Bloated with apps you normally won't use. These includes Huawei Apps like HiVideo or App Gallery or Other Hi*****. Basically HiCrap. TBF they are popular in China but reality check: This isn't China. Most of them are bloatware. And can't be properly uninstalled. Next up is the Blazing Forest Fire. Bootloader Unlocking. Please bring that back. Or make a new DEV edition of your phones like Honor V20 Dev. With an unlockable Bootloader. Lastly this ones a personal one. And that's the UI feels.......Unpolished. That maybe because I use a OP6T as my Daily but compared to OxygenOS, the newly released OneUI, EMUI feels like a Half-Heartedly Done Homework. And frankly Speaking EMUI was never a good OEM Skin. In-fact its one of the WORST. Does EMUI 9 change that? Yes. But it still needs some work. Oh and the Slow Software updates. You guys only care for a device for about Six Months after its launch. Then you come-up with a new one and forget all about it. Oh, and ALLOW THIRD-PARTY CUSTOMIZATIONS !!!
I'd provide ScreenShots but I'm on a Custom ROM and too busy Prank Calling Huawei Support to Reflash Stock.
Well...emui launcher is really a piece of **** ,in terms of customization.Although , i love my mate 20 ,always i use another launcher, like nova or evie..
Its very poor comparing lets say to miui launcher...even when you change the theme..
Recently Honor has blocked some users ability to install a custom launcher. This is a really bad choice on their part. I've never even heard of another company doing this. Right now it's limited to Chinese variants of their phones, but it's still a really bad idea.
Still no updates since January.
No monthly security patches.
?
A 3rd party launcher like Nova solves much of the stuff I don't like about EMUI. But I hate the fiddly tapping you have to do to expand notifications on the lockscreen. Invariably, you miss the spot and simply launch the app without meaning to. A simple swipe down to open notifications would be soooo much easier.
Oh, and Huawei being so slow with updates. Still being on January at the end of March is inexcusable.
But I really appreciate the Honor hardware....amazing for the price.

It gets a bad rap because it changes the look and feel of Android quite a bit and tries to imitate Apple’s iOS in many ways.

What makes this home replacement different is that all docks included in this app, have been ripped from home applications from the main manufacturers and blended into one home application.

Very very nice Launcher! Thanks.
Looks realy great ;-9
If you installe HeLauncher, what about the HTC widgets?
Does the HTC widgets still work or is it like when you use ADWLauncher that most of them, eg. People Widget, don't work anymore?
It's not smooth, it lags really bad when scrolling.
Enable bounce option is pretty strange.
The concept is pretty good but it needs a lot of work to polish it. Keep up the good work !
Wow..
I like this
Im not sure if HTC widgets will work. I dont find any lag when scrolling at all really, but yeah its still being developed. Thanks for all the pos. Feedback.
I really do like this launcher however as with any app of fine taste there is room for improvement. I like how simplistic and light it is, and with the death of Zeam we need another launcher of this magnitude.
However there is a need for performance improvements for scrolling it seems to lag a bit and isn't as smooth as it should be being as lightweight as it is.
The next issue lies with the bounce effect and the ability to use both it and the screen position thing on the top. When using the bounce effect with it when it bounces it says you're on the right screen then when it bounces back it says you are back on the previous screen and then moves back to the appropriate location.

Theme Template/Source
hi, do you have a theme template or theme source code i can get hold of to start doing themes for your launcher ?
thanks

Hi Launcher.... that reminds me of my Palm time, where i used a launcher with the same name. Anyway it is a nice launcher, just have to find out if
1 if i can hide the notification bar
2 if there is folder support to store apps
3 if it supports notifications for new messages, missed phone calls, new email
The cities for the weather are very few, it should have the option to choose other weather services with more cities. Seems also that applying themes for the weather widget does not work.
I like it!

More remarks:
Looks like the notification bar cannot be hidden, at least i have not found how.
There is no built in folder support lik many other launchers where you can drop icons on top of others to create folders. Personally i like folders much better then the used groups.
The dock at the bottom cannot be customized, i would like to put some other app shortcuts in there, also a slidable dock would be nice, to be able to accomodate more often used app.

I have 3 dock bars going. On the dock bar, while you can't change the main 5, if you have different messaging, dialer, or browser apps, you long press and you can switch from say the stock messaging to a downloaded messaging app.
I'd like to be able to create more folder sections. So favorites, Apps, Games, System, Newest, Times, Add I thought the add would create a new folder (say like a multimedia folder) but it drops in chosen apps from a list.
So I'd like to see it able to resize widgets, change the main first five dock icons, make new folders and rearrange their order. And maybe this is stupid but I'd like to be able to slide the folder area up rather than click and it pops up. It slides down...I'd like it to slide up.
New folder creation and arranging their order ,no problem.widget resizing still not available. Main dockbar icons change not possible, but selection of downloaded apps instead of stock one possible.

How does the bind weather effect work? Is there a setting to set your current location? My location service is on of course. Doesnt seem to work. Also, you cant add any contact widgets. The icons disappear after 1 minute and the launcher crashes. This is a huge negative as I need my direct contacts on a daily basis. I paid for prime so I hope it will get all sorted out soon. Thanks!
Any chance we could get a trail version of the pro?
Nice app, is there any option to show dock icons labels ?
This looks good. Any option to add a drop shadow on the icons like the Samsung Galaxy Launchers?

I understand that, but on the stock lockscreen I can use it just by waking up the device. It would be nice if it could be implemented to work the same with this lockscreen. Still using it as it is though
I have an original Pixel XL and and bought the Pro version but requested a refund shortly afterward. The Google Play Music widget does not show up when playing music, quick reply doesn't work, widgets don't show up when added....etc.
Oneplus 5t:
Sometimes the new Lockscreen appears, sometimes its the default OOS one.
Am I doing something wrong? I loved lockscreen widgets!

Not all music apps are supportes yet, but will.
Quick reply works peefectly here with whatsapp e.g.
For widgets you have to swipe right on lockscreen.
Hope it helps.

This is controlled by the system. On my OP 3T its working fine. Cant do much about that unfortunately.
Double post
Thanks for this, it's great. It works almost flawlessly, sometimes the default lockscreen will appear for split second, but it's not an issue. A couple of things I noticed, sometimes I see the notification that I have chatheads on from Facebook Messenger, not sure which one to turn off so that doesn't appear at all, I'll screenshot it next time I see it, if it reappears. Also on Facebook Messenger the actual notification has Like, Mute and Reply options while the notification on Ava only shows Like.
Is there a chance that we can choose to have the widgets on the main page, along with the notifications. on tall phones like the S9+, I believe they can fit decently.
EDIT: Here's a screenshot of the forementioned Messenger notification https://i.imgur.com/QB6FIg2.jpg
I am contemplating upgrading to Oreo but not being able to put widgets on the lockscreen is one of the things that's holding me back. I currently use an Xposed module that does accomplish this on Nougat. However, The dev of the module is likely not upgrading the app to support Oreo. I was really glad to see this. So here's my question, Can I disable all the other settings and basically just have a widget on my lockscreen? I don't want a second window on my lockscreen swipe over to, All I want is to have a widget on my primary lockscreen window. I am still on Nougat and your app seems to target Oreo so I can't test this out myself yet. Also I am using Zooper to make my custom widgets. Will those work? Cheers and thank you.
Absolutely love the potential of the app.
Unfortunately I am not able to activate the lockscreen despite giving it any and all permissions. I've given the initial permission at the start of the app, set up a few other settings, but when I go to toggle the switch at the top right corner to enable it the app either crashes or switches to the lockscreen settngs. If im able to activate it and lock my phone nothing shows up and it's my regular lockscreen. I only use the fingerprint/PIN security as well.
My device is Huawei Mate 10 Pro (us warrenty version)
This is a great app and I also have the same issues reported by others:
1. The original lock screen shows up for split second before Ava comes up
2. It requires 2 steps to login to the device. Usually pressing my finger on the lock screen would unlock it, but with Ava you have to scroll up. Luckily this can be circumvented by not opening the lock screen at all (press finger while screen is dark)
3. This one is the real deal-breaker for me. The notification access doesn't honor the "sensitive content" setting or lacking one. I'd say the best flow for notification access should be the following:
* If phone is locked, check the "sensitive content" setting
* If user is trying to access sensitive content, request authentication
* Non sensitive content can be accessed immediately (i.e. music player, weather, etc)
(EDIT)
4. This is less important issue, but choosing wallpaper should also invoke cropping or selecting which portion of the wallpaper to be used regardless of apps used
5. This is just a suggestion and not important at all:
* Add drag upwards as one of the "Launch By" for shortcuts
* Add date format to the Clock so we can have something like "Thu, Aug 2" or preferably write our own format
* Allow multiple widgets of the same kind. For example, I'd like to have a few tasker widget performing different tasks.
OTHER: I seem to be unable to tap on widget. I think I saw a message about it but can't remember what I need to do to allow it. Maybe add this to Help section?
Hi All,
I've been using Nova Launcher for years on every Android phone I had (didn't update it to ver 7). Now with S22 Ultra version 6 is baggy so I tried Nova 7, but I can't stand it, It's very slow and stuttering the developer doesn't seem responsive. It's ruin the new beast experience.
Any recommendation for an alternative good launcher?

Using Nova here still as I couldnt find any alternative.
As for the stuttering, Go to developer settings and set all transition scaled to 0.5x
Then run the below commands (individually, one after the other) in a ADB Shell and restart the device.
settings put global window_animation_scale 0.10
settings put global transition_animation_scale 0.10
settings put global animator_duration_scale 0.10
I may get laughed at and mocked for posting this, but the Microsoft Launcher does everything I need. It is highly customizable, smooth as silk and full of features. It is one thing that large entity does right.

It's always been pretty good. BUT Nova and stock both allow the google feed as "far left" screen. Has the MS launcher ever allowed it yet or do they still force theirs on you?

I tried it once.
It was unable to hide apps (The unnecessary unlocker apps for PowerAmp etc).
Also the grids cannot be customized like Nova does as shown below.
Then the gestures of Nova ... Many things were missing for me.

Microsoft continuously updates their Launcher, and it now has those features that you mentioned. I can hide apps, and I can have as small is a 12 x 12 icon grid.

You can hide their feed, though I have never tried to do so and replace it with a Google feed, but you should be ever do that. And you can always add pages and pin your own Google feed.

Google feed is a special page. and I just installed the latest beta of the launcher. All you can do is "remove" their feed, but you can't replace it with the Google feed.
So, eh. Can't replace oneuI or nova yet for me still.
Microsoft Launcher eats your battery more quickly than others..
Nova is best launcher.
Lawnchair 12 beta is also good basic launcher.
One UI is an excellent launcher.
You won't find anything that has the combination of speed, efficiency and customization it does.

One of the best ways to boot loop a Sammy is using a 3rd party launcher... take any signs of instability seriously

There isn't a problem across the the OS/Apps only with Nova (also tried other launchers and everything was ok) everything smooth as butter. I have the SD version. Don't see a reason to change the settings.

I missing the folder gesture (open the first app in the folder without open the folder).

There are some compromises. Many of One UI's features are better than Nova plus the Goodlock family of apps.
Try using Digi Clock with built in quad switches for opening apps. Goodlock One Handed Operation plus will also do that from anywhere on the side panels. I use both. All my frequently used apps are instantly available.
No problems with Nova 7 for me
I hate that we may be hijacking this thread through this launcher debate, but one of the things that I like about the Microsoft Launcher is that it allows me to backup all my settings and use the same on my tablet. Also, I love the expandable dock that allows three rows of icons. Does Nova or One UI offer those features?

Nova has been able to backup settings and use on other devices for years. Not sure about the expandable dock to 3 rows.
Love Nova on the S22 Ultra - smooth as butter.
Been on Nova 7 since day one. No issues. Had a few issues on my fold using the big screen, but on the 22 Ultra it has been great.
suggest to try Action Launcher. highly customizable, google feed page, fully working widget stack resizable, quick and polished, low impact on battery.

Still need the google nova companion to achieve this or did Nova 7 finally eliminate the need for that?
Nova runs great on my exynos s22 ultra
