Google Fi Pixel (& Nexus 6P) carrier change "cannot override carrier" error. - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Google Fi Pixel (& Nexus 6P) carrier change "cannot override carrier" error.
Hello, XDA.
I have a few old OG Pixel and Nexus 6P phones and have noticed that some do not allow carrier changes for Google Fi, using dial codes from both the "Signal Spy" app and from using dial codes manually.
I was wondering what could be causing this error, especially when I only saw a couple of Pixels with the issue and then all of a sudden, one of the 6Ps I have stopped allowing carrier swap, when it had worked flawlessly before with zero changes (ALL phones are unlocked, rooted, and running Android N 7.1.2 (all requirements for my current project with them)).
I have tried using the FIXME- ‎*#*#344963#*#* code and it will say successful but doesn't fix the issue, tried resetting mobile network, reset Fi app, and even factory reset on one but still the same.
The first time the phone will fail it will almost freeze up a little bit upon entering the dial code and then take like 1-2 minutes and then just pop up with the "cannot override carrier" error and then every time attempting after, it will freeze for just a second or two upon entering the dial code for US Cellular or Sprint (default is T-Mobile).
Definitely hitting a wall as to why this could be happening or how to resolve so if ANYONE has any input or even an idea worth trying, I would greatly appreciate it.

Cannot Override Carrier.
Any ideas would be great, thank you!

Bump.
Bump. Still trying to understand why/how.

FWIW, i'm having the same issue on my Moto G5 Plus. I've been talking to Project Fi support at Google and their help is useless so far. If I can't get this fixed, i'm dropping Google Fi, my whole point in buying a Google Fi sim card was to try and get more reliable service than what I already had with AT&T and it's actually worse without carrier switching working, it seems i'm stuck on Tmobile.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, this error indicates your device does not allow carrier switching or support carrier switching with Google fi.

force apn setting

Hello everyone, I own a Samsung omnia 7 and I have a problem with apn.
my carrier (vodafone IT) has two different apns, one that I must use with my data plan and the other that gets me to pay if I connect to it. The phone, currently on mango beta but the problem has always been there, ignores the apn setting i put in manually and uses the wrong one, set probably by the "network profile " app by Samsung. even if i uninstall the app it still connects using the wrong one, and i already tried restoring the phone to factory settings.
is there a way to force the apn used (obviously there is as the phone IS forced on one apn) and how can I do it? registry modifications,XML files... anything
thank you

I would like to find out too. Currently WP7 really lacks in this department. It screws up the settings and drains the battery even faster because it tries to connect with the wrong config.
After fiddling with it the Samsung App, own APN settings etc I manage to go online on Vodafone but my phone struggles to send MMS.
Samsung Tool isn't of much help since it thinks that my SIM card is something that it is not.
I hope this APN issue is addressed in Mango. But I guess such "bugs" are not important to MS.

Won't connect to android market ()

Hello everyone,
Just got a new LG Optimus One.
I'm having trouble connecting to Android Market, I get the following error message.
"A network error has occurred. retry or cancel and return to the previous screen" and some other times it comes up with another error message ""No connection" (text) "Retry" (button)"
I can connect to the internet via the phones built-in web browser so it's not a network issue and the android market works when I'm connected to a WiFi access point.
What do you think I could do to fix this problem.
Kind Regards,
dmk0

I can't test it, as I only have 3G and WiFi. I read it somewhere that's why I posted. And as he said Market works on WiFi. It is obvious right?
Edit: I was right, Market does not work on GPRS. 2G is too slow for Market

Market version 2.3.x (old market) works on 2G/EDGE. New Market (3.0) does not work on 2G/EDGE.
Not sure if I should put this in a new thread or continue it here because my problem got worse.
I decided to do a factory reset of the phone and it ended up making things worse.
Now the inbuilt web browser works but none of the applications worked with the internet connection. I tried android market, gmail and youtube apps and none of them worked. Where as gmail email app worked before.
When I try to enter Username and Password for the gmail account (I wait for a few minutes with the waiting message "Your phone needs to communicate with Google's servers..." Once that's finished thinking I get the following error message "Can't Establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.".
I'm in 3G mode all the time (with three and sometimes four bars). Sometimes in a mode called "E" which I suppose is Edge and I've been trying all night and haven't had any luck.
I might bite the bullet and call customer care to try and help me but with my previous experience I don't expect they can offer me much help other than returning my phone and asking for a new one. My professional experience with phones tells me there shouldn't be a fault but I cannot put myself to fault. There must be something fishy going on with this phone.
EDIT: (Additional Info) When I try to connect to the Weather I also get the error message "Weather service is temporarily unavailable." Just after I tried the web browser and google loads up fine.
Market 3.4.4 work 2g/edge but when 2g speed is very slow it gives same error i also have this problem but this is not the problem of market it is the problem of speed because sometime 2g speed is very slow i from india in which 2g speed very slow so sometime market give the error.
problem solved!
i had this same problem on my coby kyros tablet. it doesn't have any connection other than wifi, and i could browse the web, but not connect to the market.
after trying a few different things i noticed the time was way off, and went to fix it, then realized that some how the date had been changed to jan, 27th, 2011. i changed the date, time, and time zone, and the market started working perfectly.
DOUBLE CHECK YOU TIME, DATE, AND TIME ZONE!
get your old market back!!!

i had also this problem.....
just try again in MORNING (6:00 AM) ....
really it will work...as congestion is minimum in morning ...
I got the phone from Virgin Mobile with there settings preconfigured. It's VM branded too.
I re-entered APN and mysteriously it worked, sad thing is the APN I entered was exactly the same except I changed two of the characters from lowercase to uppercase.

Google safe search automatically turns on

Just a heads up to all the people who have the problem of you browsers being locked in to safe search or no adult content. I had been trying to fix this for 3 months and finally after going thru my carrier and google support also samsung in which no one could figure out how to turn off safe search. All Androids use google so I was assuming it was the problem...no!
Then I contacted my carrier (sprint/t-mobile) because google was saying it was a network issue. But the carrier (local office. Repair center and support) found no way to turn it off...
Then I contacted samsung support who in turn referred me to their local Repair center...in which the tech had found that some how the permissions on my account had been changed and was forcing network to signal all adult content to be filtered. I was astonished because sprint/ t-mobile could not find this and I had no idea even how to access this on my account...long story short. Check your carrier account permissions and make sure all blocks are off..this solved my issue for 3 months.
This is really weird, how could they change your permissions? anyway this is a very useful find, thanks!
Go to the search settings. Find the "SafeSearch filters" section. To enable SafeSearch, check the box next to "Filter explicit results". ... Enable or disable secure search Open the Google app. Click More Settings in the lower right corner. general. Next to "SafeSearch", enable or disable the switch.
Good old Safesearch settings....
The is the safe search settings were not the problem. Google, Samsung software were only doing what they're supposed to...the issue was with the Sprint/T-Mobile website settings. When you log into your account there is a profile page which controls permissions on your accounts. Some how the permissions had been changed (we suspect my account might have been hacked..changed access to it) about 3 months ago...right around the time when T-Mobile made me change Sim card on my phone from Sprint to T-Mobile. Which started the original problem I had which was I didn't have Signal at home but every where else...turns out that where I live Sprint is the only company that has a cell tower close to me so I never had a problem for years...the nearest T-Mobile tower is about 5-6 miles away...thus no Signal at home. So they put Sprint Sim back in to solve that problem. Then that's when I noticed the restrictions..after I had to go back to T-Mobile to unbrick my phone after the forced Update in October....then in November same thing after forced Update. Then again on Christmas day...a forced Update killed my internet service...again contacted Samsung and they referred me again back to the service center (UbreakitIfixit) who had to total wipe the Update and manually install the new Update and reinstall samsung phone software to get my phone working correctly...took 3 days. I'm back up and running for now...

Question Family link [TB-J617F]

Hi all,
I've been trying to get family link working as my daughter uses this tablet. When trying to add her account the setup gets stuck in an endless loop never competing. Having read various threads from other devices, I think it's probably something to do with play services not having certain permissions. I would consider unlocking, installing twrp, magisk etc if required to fix, but I don't want to loose widevine.
The long and short is I can't use her account on the device at all as she's part of the family group - her account won't work at all without family link.
I wondered if anyone here had either tried this, or come across other odd behaviours relating to play services?
I'm running the Chinese ROM ziu 13.
Appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers Matt
Few things I have tried (and eventually got it to work) across 2x Lenovo P11 Plus (J616F)'s:
1st one was a factory reset and then instead of using my home WiFi, setup the device using a 4G hotspot from my phone. (Not a clue why, but my Home Wifi (Unifi Access Points) takes upwards of 2 minutes to get internet with the Lenovo's, even though all other devices are fine).
Second method:
factory reset and setup the device as "Offline" (i.e. dont input any WiFi details, button down bottom right saying "Setup as Offline")
Once gone through initial steps, connect to your WiFi, give it 10 minutes to update a few bits.
Open Play Store (DO NOT SIGN IN!), and press the three dots at the top right and goto updates
Let the device update all apps
When complete, try adding the childs Google Account (again, if this fails, try using a 4G hotspot from another device (disabling Wifi on that device first))
Hope that helps
Ok, that sounds pretty strange but I might give it a go. I just set her up a new Google account as nothing I could do could get the old one logged in. Thanks for your advice.
I suspect your unifi is running a shared ssid and your 5ghz is on an inaccessible band, are you always connecting at 2.4ghz? I had to change the 5g band on mine to even see it!

Only have my 5Ghz on normal bands (i.e. non DFS), even tried a separate 2.4Ghz Guest network, disabled WPA3, all to no avail. Not got a clue what caused it, my ISP doesn't block anything either (Zen UK)
Any other device was fine over WiFi (have setup much older Samsung tablets, newer kids phones) all with Family Link, it was just the Lenovo's that was stuck in a loop saying I needed to remove and re-add the account.
Just couldn't figure it out, and had already spent a few hours trying. Hoped the newest firmware would fix, but that didn't help either.
Hope it helps and good luck
Just playing around on the tablet and it appears that it struggles with IPv6 - could be that my hotspot is IPv4 only. Could be related to the loop it gets stuck in?
Not sure why it doesn't like IPv6 though as all other devices are fine with it...
I've just gone through full reset, then tried using 4g hotspot as you suggested. I have to use Lenovo app centre to get play store, then use play store with no login to update. That all works fine. Then add my daughters account. Then I get stuck in the same loop of not being able to register the device with family link.
In my case, I don't think this relates to internet access, I think there's something going wrong with the software / permissions on the device. It's genuinely very frustrating as I imagine it's probably not terribly difficult for the Lenovo Devs to fix.

Motorola Edge - Sudden, Very Inconsistent Phone/5G/Text Service

Hello. I'm a newb. I don't root, or jailbreak, or use roms. I just want to make and take calls like a normal person, and I dunno what's wrong. I posted the following on reddit. This site seems more sophisticated.
Having major issues with my 2 year old Edge (1st gen, I believe, XT2063-2). It happened very abruptly and out-of-the-blue two weeks ago. I hesitate to take it to a store, because I have a feeling they will very quickly rule out any manner of repair in order to sell me a replacement (which I know is quite possibly necessary, but I still want an informed opinion on what happened anyway).
Wi-Fi seems to be fine, but whatever you call the extraterrestrial antenna, it seems to only work sporadically, and it needs to be cajoled into working regularly. First it was texts that wouldn't go through. Then a restart seemed to fix that, or at least, give me a short window. The next day, I had zero bars almost everywhere, and when I would try to make a call anywhere, it said "Call Failed" or "cell network not available for voice calls". Obviously, like this I cannot receive calls or texts (or get 5G data) reliably - only when I prepare for a few minutes ahead of time, doing things which I'll get into.
I have tried removing/reinserting the sim card to mixed effects, but always short lived. Even if no other apps are open after restart, the phone antenna always seems to doze off after an hour or two. I can get it back by making calls from AND TO my cell phone (using google voice), and sending texts to and from in a similar way. My Wi-Fi calling feature never seemed to get past "enabling...." even when I first set it up, so I'm pretty sure I'm not using it.
Strangely, there are times when I have FULL bars (all in the same location, my house which usually has decent service - T-Mobile if it's relevant, but I am in the greater NYC metro area, so I'm sure it's all the same towers... there is one half a mile away), and it still can't connect to network (even in settings, it'll say disconnected). So for the last two weeks, when I need to use two factor authentication for work, I have discovered a little ritual that seems to work (usually/eventually), so I can get the texts and calls in to my phone. I would think that would help diagnose the problem (There are plenty of times when reinserting the sim card and/or restarting the phone don't help at all). But even using the phone like this, I don't ever think I'll be able to use google maps (or get calls) reliably away from home, and that is a big problem.
Anyone have any thoughts as to how this happened, what exactly is on the fritz, and what I should do?
Many Thanks.

The only response asked me to use *#*#4636#*#* to try it with and without 5G. Well, as soon as I hit the final asterisk , the dialer disappears and nothing happens. This happens on all codes that end in asterisks. I found other codes on sites, and some of the ones that end in # seem to trigger some code search (provided I click CALL). It tells me it's searching for a USSD code, then invalid MMI code. Anyway, I just thought lack of access to codes like *#*#4636#*#* might help hone in to the problem. I'd hate to factory reset, but I'm out of ideas. I'm a sad panda.
Thanks!
