[Question] What rank did the LG G7 thinQ hit in your favorite magazine? - LG G7 ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi Folks
that's a burning question for me, how the phone was "pushed" by ranking.
Iam from Germany and the G7 ThinQ was the only phone between 4th - 5th Place with cost of ~400€.
The only phone with that feature set for that price, which was my purchase criterion - never more than 400€

Not even in the top ten.. Which is crazy considering the value right now.

I don't give a damn. It's a great phone.
It has a great chipset, the best at release date.
4 gigs of ram
Very good camera.
The best audio, the only capable to play master content from Tidal.
Great display.
Good battery life.
Cheaper than one plus 6  which is the cheapest of the good phones

yep it looks like the phone is kept in the Dark.. but why?
as u said the feature set is awesome compared to the price

I think the G7 SUCKS! LG especially for not allowing the bootloader unlock! LG will be out of business soon enough so I would avoid it at all costs! Until LG gives a damn about us, the customers, they will continue to lose sales until they are gone, like BlackBerry!
If however, they allowed the bootloaders unlocked, they would dominate the Android market. If they dont allow bootloader unlocking, they will die out and disappear, trust me, check the sales.

They did it all the time. Root was gained by exploits in the beginning. And let's not forget that you lose your guarantee when you unlock.

Who cares, not me, I've never once gone through a service or warranty, ever, the 1 time I tried years ago, went nowhere. They never worked out for anyone I know who did. I just fix it myself.

Years ago it was easy to root without unlock bootloader with sony. That changed after the XZ once you unlock drm keys got lost and effect camera quality.I rooted them all before and now most phones get more updates regular unlike 3-4 years ago.it's good enough I can debloat tru adb and still get my ota. Years ago everyone would avoid paying with a phone like me because it was new and unsafe and now it's faster and safer maybe then pc. The G7 is a great phone for what it is and better then all sony buggy software I used to know.

Is updates for our maxx and ultra's done

I have a maxx and I believe they are done with updating this phone due to being bought out by lenova. Anybody know any news on this...
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Really did you just ask this question? We will get 4.4.2 and even the next update our phones are 6 months old hell moto is updating the RAZR and M how old are they. I so tired of all the negativity against lenova and stupid posts like this one. Fear mongering that all this post is about. Unless you have something of probative value on this subject do me a favor and keep your ? To yourself.
The Lenovo deal is not finalized yet. Google still owns Motorola.
Why would Lenovo not want to update the phone? Also, Motorola is still rolling out updates to the X, after the Lenovo deal was announced. The Lenovo deal was negotiated late last year, and updates still continue. Motorola just announced a new watch that was developed before the deal. Frankly, I don't think anything is going to change.
Lenovo is going to want to start out by keeping their active customer base happy... The first thing they don't want to do is piss off everyone they just acquired. I'm certain Motorola will roll out 4.4.2 before Lenovo takes over. Lenovo should keep updates coming at least until they have their own line of superior phones.
A buyout like this isn't over night. Can take a couple of years to finalize.
Why does everyone care about updates so much?
Wasn't there talks from Google about phones will only receive updates until they are 1.5/2 years old? Or do I have the times wrong.

Kinda but you have it backwards. It was that they WILL received updates for 18 months but that has never really been a firm thing and it's still up to providers. This doesn't mean they will stop receiving updates after that 18 months though. Motorola has shown a willingness to update timely and I have no doubt that will continue. I'm sure the hold up is playing the Verizon game.
From what I understand its not really Motorola that holds the updates. Its Verizon they receive the update for said phones and they add their little programs and secret squirrel crap to the update before the consumer receives it.

So since there is no root for 4.4 without bootloader unlock there is no much sense for VZW to push 4.4.2 =)

Yeah but you gained root on 4.2.2 then took the update. Run an fxz and your root is bye bye because you can't root 4.4

So did I. But portion these people is small too =) All new phones comes with 4.4, problem solved. Most people got updated first and then checked for root options.
That's exactly what happened to me and also what pushed me into the "potential bootloader unlock" game but all said and done I'm glad it happened that way living life to the Maxx is so much easier now...

Lenovo wont even give us there own phones they make money on. Why would they update something they make $0 off of at this point?
Look at there android tablets. I havent seen anything of updates on them in a while.
It's going to be a while for 4.4.2. David Schuster just said on his g+ page " I understand your frustration, we are also frustrated. We have been working to get you this upgrade as quickly as we can but there have been some unforeseen delays with requirement changes. We are actively working on getting you this update."
In other words Verizon is insisting on more ways to make your phone theirs.

All they have to say is NO. But they won't. The Droid line Motorola has made for years any other provider would take if they could get it. TMZ started with these crazy loud videos playing that you couldn't pause or turn off the volume about a year back. With Android 4.4 Google said NO and now the app crashes each time it try to open with a video ad.
If Samsung, HTC, and Motorola got together and stopped letting Verizon screw up there software with extra crap it would all be fine. Apple said NO.. Guess what.. They still sell the iPhone.
Motorola is contracted by Verizon to make the droid branded phones for them. This isn't like the X, or the HTC one, or the samsung galaxy or note phones, or the lg phones - Verizon hired Motorola to make the droids, rather than Motorola coming to Verizon with a phone to sell. Moto has no choice but to follow Verizon's specifications. They can't say no, and they definitely can't update the phone without Verizon's approval.
The iPhone is completely different. The carriers are begging apple to sell the phone, rather than the other way around. Apple has power in that sort of relationship that no other phone OEM has, and probably will have for a long time, if ever.
David schuster said the fix would take "a number of weeks". So, by the end of May? Is that really that long a time?

This is such complete bull. I don't know what is wrong with these companies. Why won't they give us the freedom to use our devices as we choose. Are they that scared of making a loss? They made a brilliant device, but they don't want to support it. What is the point in doing that? I'm tempted to see whether I can sell my G Flex 2 and just buy myself a Xiaomi Note Pro from an overseas company, or something. I love my phone, but I don't want to stay stuck on 5.0.1 for the next two years.

This is how the first G Flex was and is still without an unlock bootloader. I was afraid this was going to happen and was the reason I had skipped this device.
I spent a whole year with the first G Flex a whole year with no root to latest version that it had and no unlock bootloader, development on that device was and still is dead.
If LG says they can't bootloader unlock our phones, then why in the 5.1.1 update we have the "Allow OEM unlock" in the developer settings?
I hope LG have problems or something else with unlock on the g4 so because this they dont release a unlock solution for the flex2. It is possible to encript the g4 bootloader unlock key with the sn and imei? Maybe we can build a own unlock tool for lg phones.

I also had opo before gflex 2. I also miss every day flashing ! But to tell the truth gflex 2 is at another level. Much more powerful even with throttling. I suggest you keep the phone
at least a couple of months. Note 4 (805snapdragon cpu version) is not a good option.
i am confuse?!
I DONT UNDERSTAND ( i have been rooting and changing roms for 5 years on samsungs, but i am very new to phones with locked bootloaders, AKA my new phone.. Lg G Flex 2)
okay so how come it is possible to root android 5.0.1 on Lg G flex 2 but not on 5.1.1
tbh customs roms are great, but now i got kinda bored from it as back in my day i flashed a thousand and now i see less point init, but the minimum i want is root so i can hack apps and try new features, as well as restore my device from Titanium backup
Please dont disappoint me guys. I just bought the phone and i cant sell it anymore cause im gonna make some loss and i dont want to do that.
IS there gona be any root for 5.1.1, and if not.. then please tell me why its not possible, as i heard it worked perfectly in 5.0.1
also my fellow (lg g flex 2) freinds , what do you guys think? we gona get root or not?
what are the hopes our phones can finally leave prison and experience its new FREE Life in the open world of developing.
Ps. for my G flex 2 mates, i think we should all email lg multiple times, and threaten them that we will leave to samsung permanently if they dont fix the issue ASAP¬¬!
with the update to 5.1.1 LG locked the bootloader and made a root impossible (at this time). the G4 has the same locked bootloader, but LG offers you to unlock it with your IMEI and some other numbers from your phone and then you will get a unique unlock code only for your phone. In a statement LG said, that this method is for upcoming phones, not for old models ..
and Samsung, Motorola, HTC, Sony and Google are much better and much dev friendly then LG -.- I won't buy a LG phone again

This really stinks. Rooting and customizing is why I do not like IOS. And LG will be soon on the same list. I already Avdes my client not to buy 350 LG phones for their employees. Such a good hardware but really bad customer relations decisions. Oneplus really looks like a way to go.

I have to say I agree with you. I have mixed feelings about the Flex 2. It is a very unpopular device and since I am on AT&T it will be last to receive any updates. It also is selling for a very low price ( I hate to see the value drop so soon but the more people to own it the better). I just hope we can get root and a recovery or atleast a way to return to 100% stock so when things go bad after rooting we can atleast recover from it.

G Flex 2 support on XDA?

Hi everyone,
I plan to buy a G Flex 2 now that my G2 was not repaired by the official service.
I came here to take a look at the development and support for this phone, and I see that there isn't much, as there is for the G2 and other popular phones. Why is that? Will there be a progress regarding the development?
Actually I don't need much, just a rooted, clean and fast ROM. But I hesitate now, that the G Flex 2's forum isn't that much alive as the G2 is/was.
thanks

That's because the bootloader is still locked, developer's can't do anything about it unless LG will give us option for an unlocked bootloader..
oh. and what's the current opinion? do you think it will change positively in the future? Does LG need to open it, or the developers can? I don't know now if it's a problem like KNOX in samsung devices.
Will root be available anyway? I can see that something is happening in another thread regarding the root.
Hate to say it, but you might want to look into a G4 instead then.
Don't get me wrong, the G Flex 2 is a wonderful device in my opinion. But the bootloader can be unlocked for the G4 and i guess thats where all the development will be at.
okay, but I'd really like to have a g flex 2. i really like it and it's a lot cheaper than the g4, I could buy it for about 340 euros, while the g4 would cost about 600 euros.
Will it be possible to open the bootloader for the g flex 2? is somebody working on it? what does it depend on, If something will happen to the flex 2?
Will there be root even if the bootloader stays as it is now?
thanks for the answers.
The Flex 2 is cheaper because it have the infamous Snapdragon 810. So it sells badly and now it's discounted.
Still we are only few to have that phone so imho it will take a long time before something happen.
There is root, if you don't upgrade your phone.
If the G4 is too expensive, you could try the G3, better support on XDA and the difference in performance is not so big. You understand that with a snapdragon 810, the CPU is underclocked and when it get warm it even shut down some core.
If you still interrested in S810, maybe you can wait for the Oneplus Two, not that I believe it can be colder but it's around 340$.
I can't even easily purchase it.. Out of stock everywhere.. thing is, if I get assured that the SD810 2.1 or 1.2 (which was it?) solves the overheat AND I would be assured that I get the new version, maybe I'd buy it. Not willing to risk all that money on a phone I might hate, so going for the G4 this week..
If anyone wants to convince me towards tbe Flex 2 rather than tbe G4, you have 1-2 days
If the bootloader on International is unlocked and there is a custom recovery, I'd definately make my usual kernel and try my luck on CM12.1. We are porting the latter to Exynos 7420, so how hard can the 810 possibly be? No promises for anything of course, but I'd definately try to get rid of LG UI.
Anyways, as a developer I'm more interested in unsupported phones and I had my eyes on the G Flex series for a while now. How is the performance and heat?

I think I then might stick to the G4 with black leather instead. I'm buying a phone for long term, and in this case I'd rather leave the flex 2. I don't need the snapdragon810, I only really liked the flex 2's design and price tag.
And what's about the G4 then? The G4 doesn't have this issue, does it?
The G4 use Snapdragon 808 that have 6 cores (the 810 have 8 cores). Different benchmark show it have similar score than the flex 2 (around 50 000 in antutu)
But the european G4 have his bootloader officialy unlockable (it's not a hack but you still lose the warranty).

What? The G4's bootloader is unlockable but then you lose your warranty???? WTF? Will this change in the future? Can you root the G4's newest ROM without losing the warranty? Why have LG done this? Did LG really need this?! It's then almost the same as Samsung's KNOX, isn't it?
Are you young or new to smartphone?
For example, on samsung, when you unlocked the bootloader there was a yellow triangle with exclamation mark at boot, on a Nexus device, there is an opened locker. It's to show clearly that the bootloader is unlocked and it's not destined to you but for repair shop.
On samsung device it's not unlocked officialy but for nexus it's intended to be unlocked. And you loose your warranty, unless you flash a stock image and relock the bootloader.
Come on, you can't think that you can mess up with the files (root or bootloader) and still claim for a warranty if you brick your device.
I let you read by yourself why LG unlocked the bootloader officialy for the G4 and it's clearly stated that it's not covered by LG warranty and they also explain why.
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryTypeCode=ANRS
I don't know why you talk about samsung knox. Knox is like Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). Or maybe you don't get the purpose of a locked bootloader.

No, I'm not new, I just didn't really hear of the bootloader before, or at least I didn't hear that it can cause such a big problem.
Until a few days ago I had a G2 and before that an Optimus Black, which I happily used with Huexx's great ROMs. I haven't really met this bootloader issue before, I just flashed the ROMs I wanted to, or simply just rooted them, and before taking my phone to service I just simply flashed an official ROM without root. So I don't really get the purpose of it...
....and this is what I also don't get
:
You say: "And you loose your warranty, unless you flash a stock image and relock the bootloader."
LG says (on the page you showed) on the other hand:
"4. Once unlocked, it cannot be undone. There is no turning back once you have unlocked the bootloader.
You will not be able to revert your phone to locked status."
I mention KNOX, because for a short time after the Optimus Black, but before the G2, I had a Galaxy S4, which had KNOX. I didn't know of that, just after a few days, when I wanted to root it... I sold it, because there would have been no more warranty after root, and it couldn't be removed, or re-done, and for me it looks like that with LG.
So as I understand now: maybe then this issue was already there before, but the developers found out how to open it without being opened... ? .. and I had no "problems" therefore..
And the issue now with the G4 is, that the devs don't know yet how to make it reveresed.
And as for the G Flex 2: the devs don't even know how to open it, and LG doesn't tell either. But once they crack it, maybe they can also relock it, so LG won't notice anything., and the new custom ROMs would start to come.
Do I get it right? I really didn't have issues regarding the bootloader, so I'm totally lost now, and now I'm starting to feel, that I might don't dare to buy a new LG phone... or what now??!
For the G4,, yes it's not relockable because LG didn't want to. On Nexus it's relockable.
Knox is a way to manage a phone fleet, mainly for enterprise usage.
Anyway you can think about it, once rooted and/or the bootloader is unlocked, you void your warranty. If you return to stock and relock bootloader, there is way for repair service to see if you did some modification as in many samsung device, there is a counter when you flash another rom, but on other is cannot be seen.
Some phone have their bootloader officialy unlockable (step are given by manufacturer) some aren't. For exemple, the lock on Motorola Droid (Milestone is some country) was very strong and it was cracked only 3 years later but it was done.
Also, understand that root don't need unlocked bootloader.
But le Flex 2 face 2 problem, it's new and poor sale. So don't hope for something that will profit a handfull of people.

Thank you. I'm gonna buy a G4 then in the upcoming few days
you don't need to quote me for one line...
just to make it clear, you'll lose the warranty of the G4 once you unlock the bootloader even if the unlock method was provided by LG.

Like i already stated in that thread, my g flex 2 is pretty cool, doesn't get hot with trivial stuff at all ... it actually did on 5.0.1 without forcing gpu rendering in the dev options. But its the fastest phone i've owned since my previous g2 and nexus 5.
Only thing that is bugging the **** out of me is not having root.
Pass on this if you can the phone proccessor is it's undoing. Knowing what we know about this phone no one in there right mind would buy this over some of the older phones like the g3, one plus one or two, nexus 6, moto x . This phone with the 808 i wouldn't be typing this now on my note 4 . Loved the phone but i had 3 replacements under a month. Screen didn't wanna cut on just the the system ui which was a rainbow color on 2 different flex2 then the last one i had damn near caught fire in my pocket burnt my leg it got so hot returned that and got a note 4. Can't believe i sold the nexus 6 for this phone smdh lesson learned you get what you pay for.

LG 7 thinq Canadian thread

Hey fellow Canucks! If you're looking to give feedback, tips & tricks or just rant about ROBELUS this is the place to do it.
I asked LG directly if the Canadian G7 variant will have an unlockable bootloader and unfortunately we won't have that privilege up north. =(

Hey at least we got a free TV with it (In Ontario).
Yup free tv in Alberta too... And that was a pretty sweet deal for me that since I needed both! I bought mine outright through Freedom, using it with koodo. I am pretty happy for now. Hoping that LG keeps its promise of more frequent updates and longer support since they opened a new division dedicated to that.

Speaking of iOS. I find that the LG G7 has the most pleasant haptic feedback of any non iPhone devices. Finally someone figure out which part of Apple to emulate, not to say copy...

Yup. They've had their own "taptic engine" since V30, it's the only one on the android side that has it and it's brilliant! The vibration is such an important aspect of phones that people tend to not notice. Oneplus5/6 has the nastiest vibration that actually becomes a reason for me not to buy one.
Anyone recieve an update on the status of free tv yet?
If my math is accurate , we will be waiting until July 15th before any update. At any rate, im looking forward to a 43" UHD w hdr and google assistant!
The more I use the camera on the G7, the more Im blown away. Its crazy good.
This phone is crazy good. The potential of customization is good enough on G7 to forget about root anyway. The stock ROM is... really good.
My first LG phone. The built quality is good and form factor, the only downside is its slippery so you need a case.

Agreed. I have the LG G7 and the Huawei P20 pro. I was going the keep the G7 and sell the Huawei P20 pro until I accidentally threw it out of my car window...sigh. Now I have to sell my LG G7 which is by far a better phone. So far out of all the phones I've owned in 2018 the G7 comes close 2nd to the S9+ edged out by the dual speakers. This is by far the best LG G series phone. The best phone no one will buy, which is a shame.

I sent in my paper work last week, LG is very sticky on having it correct. I put my emails on the phone and delivery and contract change in the trash folder...had to scramble to get them back to submit the correct info LG wanted. They are most interested to make sure it was pre-ordered between May 18th to May 31st and a proper digital receipt of the purchase. I think I finally gave them what they wanted....But yes I feel middle of July is when they will arrive by....but who really knows.
I just contacted LG regarding the claim and when can we expect the TV. I got this in the reply back.
"Regarding the claim status, as there is a cooling off period to ensure customers are satisfied with the products.
The claims will start to process in the beginning of July.
All claims will be reviewed prior to validation, please allow 6-8 weeks processing time for your claim."
It says "my" claim at the end there but I think it can be generalized to everyone.
I received an email and a text message today about the TV. It says that they're expecting to ship the TV in 4 weeks. Hurray for the new TV in August.
They reviewed this specific TV on RTINGS. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uk6300
Don't expect to be wowed but it's not a terrible TV in anycase and a FREE one at that.
Now, waiting for a method to root this phone... *crossing fingers*
Anyone receive their tv yet? Still waiting on mine.
Just wanted to let you know that I got my TV yesterday. It has lots of blacklight bleeding so I am talking to someone in support to get it replaced.

Good to know. Hopefully mine comes soon then!
Got mine a more than a month ago. Backlight bleed is at minimal level. IPS displays will never have inky blacks so I was expecting something like that. Overall I'm satisfied because I kept my expectations low.

Damn lucky you. I emailed them Sunday and they replied yesterday saying that there's a big backlog due to higher than expected sales.
I was worried that it had shipped and either didn't make it or someone stole it off my porch. Just need to wait it out I guess

1. For me, yes. I just purchased my second xz premium 2 months back and am extremely happy with it still. Even though it will not receive further official updates past android 9.
2. Not really, make sure the volume up and down work easily, and the speakers are not crackling. And turn it on and off to see if there is a message saying the bootloader is unlocked. If there is, offer a couple of bucks less. (Bear in mind, docomo branded and possibly others are not able to be unlocked)
3. If it has a locked bootloader still (and you no doubt want to unlock it ), there is a method to backup your .TA keys before unlocking, and restore them afterwards.
4. Xperifirm is 100% trustworthy, 1000's will agree. (What is automode?)
5. Nothing to worry about with twrp, everything works as expected.
Treble... Not so much. The XZ Premium does not have native treble. As it was released with nougat, it wasnt a requirement. There is a treble mod in the threads, but its definitely not daily driver material.

Try to even find a OnePlus 3T for under 150€ in germany. Other than broken ones its impossible, and with other Phones ive looked at its the best one for the price.

Xperifix is also trustworthy, but exclusive to Oreo.
On android pie, the camera works normally, the green camera issue that xperifix fixed is no longer a problem.
As for the price im not sure, if it helps i bought a new one in the box from ebay for 420 australian dollars, and can pick up a decent second hand unit for 200 to 300 Australian.
1. Is it still good in 2019?
Yes, and if you're not a gamer, it is pretty easy for you to use this device until 5G is really a thing. Although 4GB RAM is not great even in 2016's standard, 835 is still a powerful chip and somebody informed me that there *are* certain people that modified their maple and installed more RAM.
2. Any specific problem thats common on Used/New Devices (Like the Nexus 5X Manufacturing Problem etc.)
The screen of this device is easily aged and sometimes will be damaged, so please double check before you make your purchase and DO NOT BUY ANY JAPAN CUSTOMIZED PHONE.
Oh and one more thing, unlocking this device can cause lose on some camera features. Please make sure that you have backed up your TA before you unlock. Instructions on how to do so can be found on XDA.
3. Any must have tips/things todo right after getting the device?
Unlock and flash TWRP+Magisk.
Personally I don't like all third party builds that can be found online so maybe I'll build one myself when time is right. As for now, I'm OK with stock ROM rooted.
4. Can i trust Xperfirm and is the Auto Mode Officially Supported.
Yes but I haven't been using Xperfirm for long so my opinion on this one can be ignored.
5. Anything to worry about before installing TWRP/Treble?
The latest TWRP build on twrp.me have some problems and on my Chinese ver. G8142, it can't R/W my data . On 3.2.3 however it is working fine.
If you buy a chrome version the plastic sides gets erased and looks cheap and bad. Buy a housing and a screen protector. And don't leave it under the sun, when it's hot. Summary: 1. Battery last up to 1 day, depending on the usage. 2. Cameras are great. With latest updates it has improved. 3. No lag. 4. Sound on speakers is really low. 5. Careful with the charger. After about 2 years of charging cable it is kind a loose. 6. Don't change the firmware or unlock the bootloader. Not worth it. Phone is quite capable. And Pie version of Android is clean.7. Connectivity is quite a topic. With speakers or watches is working perfectly. For Casting to TV, not so good. Maybe it depends on the TV.. Enjoy

I do not recommend it ... when I bought it a year ago it was a plane, now sony is not going to give it more support and heats up like a toaster, because of that overheating of the processor, it has caused an orange stain to appear screen. you better buy a Samsung A90 or the Galaxy S10 line

well the device have not the best developer nor Sony support, but if u know what u are doing u can be happy, all games i tested here were still fine, if the device u get is used, check not only if its unlocked but actually batterry sot, since this phone is 3,2A only a weared battery might not be what u want. Else i am still very happy with it.
buy orignal for $230 from ali express
If you are planning to buy, buy from ali express they got free shipping, i got a brand new orignal for $230. below is the link.
It really depends on the price. I got my XZP last august I think for around $120 (USD). This phone is worth it if you have sweaty hands. I can still touch the screen without wiping it despite of having a sweaty hands. Most newer phones doesn't have that kind of screen at that price range. The specs are okay for me since I don't game on my phone. Battery life is a bit meh having only 5 hours SOT with stamina mode turned on (only 3.5 hours if its turned off). The camera is still good too (both front and rear). And it still looks cool. You can compare it to other modern flagships today when it comes to design.

JP ver can't get bootloader unlocked thus no rooting or TWRP. Certain batch can do so but I don't recommend trying to get your hands on one unit cuz it's quite difficult. Stock JP rom contains docomo's bloatware and some japan only modifications but you *can* adb them out.
nothing more.
