LG 7 thinq Canadian thread - LG G7 ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey fellow Canucks! If you're looking to give feedback, tips & tricks or just rant about ROBELUS this is the place to do it.

I asked LG directly if the Canadian G7 variant will have an unlockable bootloader and unfortunately we won't have that privilege up north. =(

Hey at least we got a free TV with it (In Ontario).

Yup free tv in Alberta too... And that was a pretty sweet deal for me that since I needed both! I bought mine outright through Freedom, using it with koodo. I am pretty happy for now. Hoping that LG keeps its promise of more frequent updates and longer support since they opened a new division dedicated to that.

I received my G7, switched back from IOS , I really like my G7 Android. I would love root, but I guess I have to settle for the free TV.....

Speaking of iOS. I find that the LG G7 has the most pleasant haptic feedback of any non iPhone devices. Finally someone figure out which part of Apple to emulate, not to say copy...

Yup. They've had their own "taptic engine" since V30, it's the only one on the android side that has it and it's brilliant! The vibration is such an important aspect of phones that people tend to not notice. Oneplus5/6 has the nastiest vibration that actually becomes a reason for me not to buy one.

Anyone recieve an update on the status of free tv yet?
If my math is accurate , we will be waiting until July 15th before any update. At any rate, im looking forward to a 43" UHD w hdr and google assistant!
The more I use the camera on the G7, the more Im blown away. Its crazy good.
This phone is crazy good. The potential of customization is good enough on G7 to forget about root anyway. The stock ROM is... really good.

My first LG phone. The built quality is good and form factor, the only downside is its slippery so you need a case.

Agreed. I have the LG G7 and the Huawei P20 pro. I was going the keep the G7 and sell the Huawei P20 pro until I accidentally threw it out of my car window...sigh. Now I have to sell my LG G7 which is by far a better phone. So far out of all the phones I've owned in 2018 the G7 comes close 2nd to the S9+ edged out by the dual speakers. This is by far the best LG G series phone. The best phone no one will buy, which is a shame.

I sent in my paper work last week, LG is very sticky on having it correct. I put my emails on the phone and delivery and contract change in the trash folder...had to scramble to get them back to submit the correct info LG wanted. They are most interested to make sure it was pre-ordered between May 18th to May 31st and a proper digital receipt of the purchase. I think I finally gave them what they wanted....But yes I feel middle of July is when they will arrive by....but who really knows.

I just contacted LG regarding the claim and when can we expect the TV. I got this in the reply back.
"Regarding the claim status, as there is a cooling off period to ensure customers are satisfied with the products.
The claims will start to process in the beginning of July.
All claims will be reviewed prior to validation, please allow 6-8 weeks processing time for your claim."
It says "my" claim at the end there but I think it can be generalized to everyone.

I received an email and a text message today about the TV. It says that they're expecting to ship the TV in 4 weeks. Hurray for the new TV in August.
They reviewed this specific TV on RTINGS. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uk6300
Don't expect to be wowed but it's not a terrible TV in anycase and a FREE one at that.
Now, waiting for a method to root this phone... *crossing fingers*

Anyone receive their tv yet? Still waiting on mine.

Just wanted to let you know that I got my TV yesterday. It has lots of blacklight bleeding so I am talking to someone in support to get it replaced.

Good to know. Hopefully mine comes soon then!

Got mine a more than a month ago. Backlight bleed is at minimal level. IPS displays will never have inky blacks so I was expecting something like that. Overall I'm satisfied because I kept my expectations low.

Damn lucky you. I emailed them Sunday and they replied yesterday saying that there's a big backlog due to higher than expected sales.
I was worried that it had shipped and either didn't make it or someone stole it off my porch. Just need to wait it out I guess

So should I get it or wait?

Should I get the OPO, or wait for the confirmed OnePlus Two? I mean, in a blog post, 3 winners of a photo contest get hands on w/ the two in hong kong. It's coming in Q3. Should I wait? Or gun it? I am stuck w/ an apple iphone 5 so :/
You should go for it. The price doesn't get better than what it is right now, $249 for the 64GB, and $349 with one year of Dropbox Pro. Plus, I read somewhere that OP is going to use the invite system to sell the OP2, which unless you don't mind the hassle is kind of a pain in the ass. I am keeping mine until I get more details about the OP2, if it doesn't come with a fingerprint support, I will probably move to next Nexus 6, but keep the OPO as my back up phone.

If I was faced with the same decision I'd still buy the OnePlus One now. It's cheap, you don't need an invite anymore, and it's a beast of a phone. The OnePlus Two isn't going to be as cheap, and they'll be reverting to the invite system again.

It's hard to know to be honest... I've had the OPO since July of last year and, as everyone in this thread has said, it's an amazing phone, and that doesn't even include the price. I would say it depends on what you're interested in. If you like having the 'latest and greatest' phone with the newest CPU / GPU and most RAM (like me ) etc, I'd wait. But if you just want a great phone that will be able to run the next few versions of Android and all the apps in the world (minus some future games that require OpenGL ES 3.1 or something, but that's a good way off yet!) and has a great community to back that up (even when OnePlus leave it behind), as well as an amazing price, I'd go for it.
Had the same kinda question facing me. Stick with my Nexus 5 until the end of the year when the OP2 or new Nexus' are out, or go for the OPO.
Went for the OPO. Blows my N5 out of the water and will take me until the end of the year. If the phones i mentioned above are too expensive I'm happy keeping the OPO into next year.
Helps i got £100 for my N5.
Feels like such a premium phone. Took it to work on Friday and people were amazed that it cost so little.
Still a fantastic phone for the price had mine well over a year and still going strong was considering upgrading this month but I am sticking with the OPO for longer. It does everything I need on a phone the screen is still good, battery life is excellent, takes decent daylight photos and is fluid on CM12.1.

Hey guys, this seems like the most relevant thread to post in, but I agree with some of the previous comments, I really like the specs on the OPO, I currently have an HTC M8, with the same chipset, which runs phenomenal, however AOSP ROMS aren't the best for HTC Devices, they've always suffered from a lot of bugs, and GPE support has started to lag behind with the M9 being out.
I just purchased a 64gb model and am anxiously awaiting for it to arrive. My question is, how is the overall build quality of this device? I wasn't impressed with the N5 build quality and from videos and pics, this phone looks solid, but I've read about numerous users complaining about touch screen issues. Is this phone pretty solid? And how are AOSP ROMS on this device? Pretty bug free? Thanks!

Could also be that 3rd is when they open up the moto maker for pre-order... and then they ship them on the 30th. That would be a nice kick in the teeth!

haha. I do hope they do actually release it on the 3rd... but optimism is so non-British. Cynicism sits much better ^.^ I think the standard build phones would ship pretty fast anyway so a release on the 3rd for them makes sense; whereas customised moto maker ones will probably take more time anyway.
Here's to hoping a company makes a decent screen protector for this phone too in time for its release! oh wait... hope... bad...

Neither on the Nexus 6... Those round screens sure look nice but they are more fragile and makes it impossible to put a tempered glass.
Anybody notice that after the launch there has been zero follow-up by Motorola to ride the positive buzz to a launch? This makes zero business sense unless we consider what also happened just after the launch.
I am wondering if Lenovo is the issue. They zapped 500 from Moto's mobile division in Chicago and also let go of key software dev teams. It could be possible that given the staff reductions and distraction and disruptions this is not a good time frame to launch and would explain the pull of the announcement. Apparently feedback from Chicago does not suggest a facility "all systems go" for a launch and employees reporting they are still in shock and key positions were also laid off that are not filled to cover a launch.
I would not hold breath for a Sept 3 launch and also concerned for product support since apparently will be given to Lenovo who have no clue about Motorola (if you have dealt with Lenovo, they do not appear to have a good grasp of their own products as far as support). Shame too, since was looking forward (big time) to a 64GB version. Hoping I am reading too much into the events.
Whatever the case, you do not launch with such positive buzz and go dark like this. That defeats a key purpose of a launch in the first place.
It is mad to think that Motorola have done/said nothing after the announcement of the Style however the only good thing is the fact the shipments and general day to day sales i.e the Moto G 2015 seem to be going as planned without a hitch.
Not long to go before we see what happens lol. But honestly I cant see Lenovo making a mess of this, they are a well respected company also but tbh sometimes companies do make some proper stupid decisions ... Note 5 Not selling in Europe pops to mind hahah.
Sent from S3 via Tapatalk App.
Hoping that is correct The tweet being pulled and the complete darkness after a big launch is not a normal bridge to carry though to product release. a lot of momentum is lost. Whatever the case, Lenovo's timing appears bad.
Motorola Germany just answered a twitter question regarding the release. They expect a release in Germany around the middle of September. So maybe they can hold the 3rd September release in the US
All I know is that unless your quick your going to be left dissapointed as you're going to have a longer wait. In the UK the Moto X Play is already out of stock it went on sale only a few days ago.
I have a feeling the same will happen with the Style.
Wonder if this is common with Motorola and they run out of stock at launch. I know this was the case with the Nexus 6 but thats always the case with any Nexus LOL.
Motorola is very weak in regards to supply chain management and tend to be their own worst enemy. Was hoping Lenovo would help, but appears not to be the case. It is very ironic for a company so weak in supply chain to add the well-intended customer option of case customization.
I posted that the battery COULD be the Achilles Heal for the Moto X Pure, but Motorola supply chain for the critical launch release phase could be as well.

The android 6.o is coming, will Flex2 have chance to update?

Hope our flex2 will get the updata~

some website said we will, but no official information about the update
Doubt it
Lg is unpredictable..... Lol
All i want is my unlocked blootloader, 6.0 will be cool, but all i can pray for is that Lg blesses us with a unlocked bootloader.
It's their fastest phone, but the chance of M is probably 20/80. Chance of an unlocked bootloader, 5/95. I'm curious about a stagefright 2.0 patch.

The article mentioned that the LG Flex may not get Marshmallow, the LG G Flex2 will get Marshmallow, no doubt about that.
And yes they hopefully fix the Stagefright 2.0 bugs too.

Do you have an LG source for your certainty that the Flex 2 will get M? LG has a pretty poor track record -- the first gen Flex never got Lollipop.

I hope you're wrong about 20/80 for Marshmallow. The phone is only ~6 months old and abandonment by LG would be a pretty miserable business decision. As far as unlocking bootloader, we'll more likely get that unofficially as a result of developer effort (highly unlikely without some LG tech leak) but overall the odds are probably even worse than 5%, especially for those of us with AT&T model.
If there will not be a 6.0 update for this device, i'm gonna buy a freaking iphone and never look back on android ... srsly, i'd be done with it and its fragmentation bs forever. Vendorlock me to apple crap.

Intuitively, logically, and reasonably we should expect Marshmallow and the rumors floating around on the android sites are a good sign, but personally I won't bank on it until LG puts out something official. The original Flex was release only 9 weeks earlier than the Flex 2 the prior year (Oct 27 2013 versus Jan 5 2015) and the first Flex never saw Lollipop.

The Flex and G2 had the same SoC, yet LG abandons it with no apology to users. I can't even find a reason for why they'd abandon a phone with those specs while it still had KitKat. Heck. I don't even understand why KitKat never came to the ATT LG Optimus G despite having the S4 Pro.

I see where you are coming from here, but I think that the flex 2 is much better and more popular than the original flex. I don't fully understand why the deep price cut, but it will dramatically increase sales no doubt.
Sidebar: Thanks again to help me confirm I had bad sensors. I sent the phone to LG for repair under warranty and they replaced the entire screen. When I got the phone back it was updated to 5.1.1, so now I don't have to worry about trying to coerce an OTA (sweet!). Battery life is stellar so far and no heat issues. Marshmallow would be a real treat (pun intended) on this phone, so I will stay hopeful that we'll get it (eventually)
Anyway if LG doesn't keep his word, I won't buy his device anymore
6.0
LG Flex 2 IS getting Marshmallow, U can bet your S'mores on it.

So ive been searching hard. 810 rumors are rampid. Id rather ask you users. Has the throttling stopped since the updates? Was this really the korean model? Or? How does the screen look compared to note 4? I ask because i love amoled. I also like the fact the flex is not seen much in the hand around my parts,of town. Lol. I see development is lacking. Guess no loki? Wonder why sprint would sell the flex 2 with locked bootloader? Oh well. 5.1.1 and up should fix all the lag. Marshmallow update for MotoX Syle (Pure) 2015

Everyone don't wet it! The update will contain Band 12 VoLTE and E911. VoIT is in question? I got this info from higher tech support. Took about 4 days to get official answer. I believe this is the reason why we in the good old of USA haven't received this update sooner! They are working out possible issues with this radio update for marshmallow.

Do plenty of research first. I sent my 6p back because after 4 days of normal use the frame was twisting. It would no longer sit flat. I carried my phone in my front pocket as i have done with all my phones. I also had much worse reception. I constantly dropped to 3g at work whereas with this phone I don't. If on Verizon there is also no visual voicemail so if you have advanced calling enabled you get text messages instead of a notification that you have voicemail periodically. Your mileage may vary but I couldn't wait to be rid of it.

Same here.. got the phone.. it's working as it should be.... there are some fixes you can get from the dev sections... not like this phone came out the box broken that MM was going to make it feel like a totally different phone from what I bought...
You know Nexus phones get the updates right away.. so why didn't you just buy the Nexus instead of the MXPE? Sounds like a personal problem...
C'mon, apologists. Waiting a few extra weeks isn't the end of the world for most of us, but it should've been out by now, given Moto's near-stock software design. The fact that it's taking longer to update their brand new, revolutionary, carrier-free flagship than some competitors' heavily-skinned, carrier-variable models is a very bad sign about Lenovo's priorities.
If 11 months from now we're finding out that the MXPE will not be receiving Android N at all, we can probably look back to this episode and say: "you know, we should've seen this coming." I'm enjoying my phone, but I absolutely don't blame anyone for hedging in favor of the 6P despite a few weaknesses (no expandable storage) because of Lenovo's poor showing this past 3-4 weeks.
So, go to the dev section and install MM...

Can you link to where Moto/Lenovo gave the MXPE an exact date of when MM was going to come out? Last I heard they were rollin' it out in phases... and even then, there were no exact dates... if peeps want to spend more on the 6P/Nexus and not worry about delayed updates, then they should have bought it, but yet, they didn't and are complaining about the "slow" updates on the phone(s) they 'decided' to buy instead..
Go to the dev section and install those MM updates posted there if you guys are really that bent on getting MM on your device...
I can wait, nothing in MM that I really want, much less need, anyways...
A few weeks is nothing. We'll get it.
This isn't like the Atrix and ICS, where the phone was out for a fair bit and also canned once google bought Moto. The phone is new. If other regions are getting it first, then that's just how the testing works.
They really don't want a repeat of Lollipop. I heard horror stories on how badly that update botched the 2nd Gen Moto X.
Loving Marshmallow as well !!!

Do those dev section roms include T-Mobile B12 & VoLTE support??? That's what many of us are waiting for. If it was only a matter of wanting MM then yeah, that's a no-brainer, but no way I'm going through all that crap for a rom that doesn't have the T-Mobile support I've been waiting for all along.
From what I can tell there is no band 12 in the Indian mm but doze works ****ing wonders on this phone even completely stock. I'm on modded marshmallow now and will switch to official mm when its released. Simple enough

Still no HDR10 update here. Eu version and yet in 1.10. Bad for HTC. First delays sending phone, now no HDR update, wondering why HTC is loosing money with his mobile division.
No HDR10 update here in China yet.
Chinese version of the phone obviously.

it would be nice to get the update for the December security patch at the very least. we still have a few hours to go before December ends. OP did this with Nougat and Xiaomi just updated the Mi A1. HTC might surprise us, just with the phone deliveries.

Hehe still having hope. One reason for not buying HTC was this, no updates. Finally I bought it because I think it's one of the best phones this year.
But a phone with no support is not good, like you said still in October security patch. That's not good for a new phone. That's one reason to change this phone. A powerful one.
I knew this would happen. Im glad that I have cancelled the preorder and it seems that I wount be re-ordering. Sadly, sooner or later, you will all realize, that this is just a failed Pixel 2 project and HTC just wanted to get some money back and threw this to the market. There wount be any HDR10 support update (at least a working one) and certainly there wount be any brightness boost to the most dim display ever put to a flagship. Its really sad Im looking forward to buy something useable in April 2018.

I hope you were wrong. Actual pixel 2 XL is a failed pixel with a lot of screen issues like burning screen or blue screen, and so many other problems like sound recording video and well known others.
I think that HTC will update their phones but not as fast as they say or as good as they promised. Anyways I probably will change this phone in 2018.

That's a fact. But with or without hdr.. This thing is a amazing beast.
So true about that display I compared it to a V30 in store and theyre world's apart!
Phone is boss though all-round, I'm just worried about after sales support at the minute. If this phone runs into issues after the next 5 days (return window) then I'm into the waiting list of 3 months + without a phone, which would leave me kicking myself.
Currently on October patch too - UK. That's shocking. And who's to say we're even going to get one?
In two minds wether to return this and buy a supported device such as a Pixel 2 XL and sacrifice screen, or hold on to this beast and cross my fingers nothing goes wrong with it.

I'm worried about support of this phone too. Still in October patch and we are in 2018 now. I took this one instead pixel 2 XL mostly because screen issues of the pixel. Now I'm regretting it.
The camera is good but not as good as expected. No portrait mode or anything similar, also photos are a bit underexposed, a bit dissapointed with camera and max brightness.
So I'm waiting the HDR10 update to see if this can fix something with this phone, otherwise I will sell this and I will take a pixel.

My advice. Hold on to this beast! Updates will follow. Probably after the completion of the global U11 OREO update. HTC is a little busy these days. Service should not be a problem. When having problems contact htc directly.
The phone is not yet available in all Europe, let's wait and see what HTC will do. So far i'm enjoying it. I don't care about the HDR10 update, but they need to update the security patch, and minors tweaks on the camera.

I think camera need a big update. It's just correct but not the camera it is supposed to be. I will say that u11 normal has better camera than this, it has lot of noise in low light and low detail in general. Video it's just OK, but not awesome. If they manage to upgrade the camera can be one of the top 3, it has potential to it.
I've compared the cameras of the U11 plus with the U11. And yes you are right. I did see some difference between them. Hardware is the same so I believe they will fix it with the first update. But... The frontcam of the U11 plus is better.
Still waiting for a update HTC. No hdr10 no security patch, still in October.
You're doing it wrong HTC. Thinking about a change to mate 10 pro.

I have the Mate 10 Pro
You will gain screen brightness, better battery and more software features
You will lose smoothness, better camera, better audio, less bugs
