I just found this recently posted and figured it belongs here as a heads up to this madness; sort of wish I had time to start a unity port.

Ok, I dont wanna be "That new guy that doesn't use the search". I used it and haven't been able to find a relevant thread.
I am brand spanking new to the Android scene, but I have lurked around a couple of boards, and have been doing a little research. I opted to buy a Dev G1 for my first android phone. I have always used WinMo.
My question is probably a simple one for someone who is familiar. With the Dev phone, will I be ready to install and use themes out of the box? Or will I need to do anything special to it. It is my understanding that these Dev phones are basically "rooted" out of the box.
I appreciate your help in advance!
I know nobody wants to hear from a noob in this section, but i'm curious... I see roms for almost every android phone except the Motorola Droid(verizon). Even the newer Nexus One has a rom or two floating around.
I've done quite a bit with ipod/iphone jailbreaking and I assume this is the same or similar concept. I'd be greatful if anyone could at least point me in a better direction. I've been doing random google searches for a few days now and I found that the Motorola Droid can be rooted, but I haven't found much more than that.
Any info that can be shared would be greatly appreciated.
droid roms
hows it goin u can find droid roms at android forums they have a couple of different one and there i just rooted my droin and i am running android 2.1 with live wallpapers...sweeeeet!!!
correction
im sorry earlier i posted that you could find roms for ur droind on android forums it it just droidforums.net sorry for the mix up..
you wont find Droid roms here at xda
From the main site - "This site is mostly about certain PDA-phones. Many are made by a firm called HTC, but we've recently started discussing some made by other manufacturers"
check the link above
trying to find out if this rom is worth it i mean to demand money in exchange for an open source free service that is the only dev ive ever seen doing this so i must ask is this rom even worth it from anyones use?
That's for you to decide. But there's a reason he was kicked off XDA.
Some people swear by Baked Snack; but in addition to charging for "exclusive" releases of his ROMs, I've heard the developer has also done his fair share of dirty dealings.
ok thank you
I appreciate the prompt response yea that seemed kinda odd to me ive been around since droidforums.net with the OG droid and recently switched to the epic and sprint network which i have to say in my opionion beats the pants off of verizon however, I was not aware of baked snack being kicked from the xda forums but i can see where that would make sense. I can see req a donate but you cannot force folks to pay you for this it just seems wrong if you have such a problem with it dont dev is all i can say. but def again ty think ill stick away from that im all about donating when its a solid dev and the work is worth me sticking my hand in my pocket and pushing some money there way you do not force the hand that feeds you.
Thread closed. Not only is this in the incorrect section, but backedsnack roms and discussion is banned from XDA, as the creator, Herver, violates GPL.
Hey guy, sorry for the post in the general forum, but I don't have enough posts to post in the Droid 3 section of the website. I've been following the threads in there for a couple months now, and I've rooted my Droid 3 and flashed quite a few different ROMs on there, but I was looking into creating my own, or at least starting with someone else's as a base.
I made sure to do a pretty thorough Google search before posting here, but most of the ROM creation guides I've found are pretty device specific. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to write a guide for creating/modding a ROM for the Droid 3, or at least give me some pointers on how to get started
(BTW, I'm a programmer with a bit of experience, but no Android dev experience whatsoever, just giving a point of reference).
Thanks!
Sorry, just noticed the thing about questions going into the Q&A section. This is more of a request than a question, but if a mod feels like it should be moved than feel free to do so. I'd do it myself, but I can't move the post (and since it's more of a request than a question, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to).
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

I just got mine in the mail today. Not sure what to do with it yet. Looking up how to get the proper USB cables at the moment.

That's the cable. Took me forever to figure out where to get the type of cable he posted. I registered the ##peek channel on freenode if anyone wants to hop in.
Just got my peek and the cables for it. Not too sure what to do now.
I'm currently trying to get in touch with the original authors who got a working linux kernel. If I can get their code I might be able to start putting something together. Maybe a custom OS for learning OS development, or just porting a very basic version of Linux.
