P3 won't connect to usb 3 - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Like the Pixel 2, my Pixel 3 doesn't connect to my pc using any usb a-c cable using any usb 3.0 or 3.1 ports, it only charges. This is a known issued introduced in Android 8.0 in a P2 update (https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70816510) and has been lodged for the P3, too, at https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/120747438.
Does anyone have a solution to this yet?

I had the same issue with my Pixel 2 and my work laptop. Never figured out how to get it to connect, so I gave up and just used my personal computers. I know that doesn't help you, but just didn't want you to feel like you are the only one with the problem.

[Q] MacBook (Air and Pro) kills USB File Transfer on my Note Pro 12.2

QUESTION: is there anyone else using a Note 12.2 with an rMBP or MacBook Air, (or any 2012-or newer model Apple MacBook) and the USB connection is fine?
I have a strange issue with my 12.2- I'm trying to get some insight if it's just mine, or can anyone else confirm this one way or another?
When I attach via USB to my 12.2 ONLY on an Apple MacBook (I can replicate it either with my 15" rMBP running Mavericks or a 13" Air running Mountain Lion) the MacBooks completely disable USB file transfer on the device- as in for good, including with any other USB connection on any other computer- until I do a factory reset.
File Transfer works perfectly on all of my PC's running Windows, and on a Hackintosh running Mavericks and my genuine MacPro running Mountain Lion.
It's only the MacBooks that kill the USB connection every time. After it happens, no other device will connect via USB.
It's not a driver issue or anything else- my MacBooks connect perfectly to my Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Note 3 using Android File Transfer. (And other non-Samsung Android devices I own). But the 12.2's connection dies every time, until a factory reset.
I'm thinking this is probably just an issue with my tablet, but would be nice to have some insight before I return it for a replacement. Also I want to make sure I don't just get the same problem happening again, if it's somehow a Apple/MacBook problem not the Note Pro.
Anyone have any ideas why just the MacBook USB ports (and two different OS's) would kill the Galaxy Note Pro? Like maybe they use a different type of USB 3.0 connection or something?
Update: I was exploring the limitations of this issue- it only happens with the original dual Samsung USB 3.0 cable and the MacBooks. A standard microUSB cable and it connects fine and doesn't kill the USB connection.
Again, same Samsung USB 3.0 cable and any other device, no problem. Weird problem.
I also could not use the stock USB 3.0 cable on my rMBP.
I'm guessing it's a USB 3.0 driver issue since even through a VMW Fusion virtual machine I could not get a good connection.
Thanks for the advice on the use of a USB 2.0 cable. It's not as fast obviously but works in a pinch.

This has to be a hardware issue with the Note Pro.
Do you get the same problem? That connecting to your Macbook completely disables USB connections until you do a factory reset? (I'd love to know if there's a better way to fix the USB connectivity other than a factory reset. Nothing in the developer options does it that I know of.)
For now I think I'm still going to exchange for another and see if it's just a glitch with mine that the USB connection is completely killed. If it's true of all Note Pros then it's something Samsung needs to fix.
Not sure what you mean by completely disabling USB connections.
Host mode for external devices? I haven't done that with the tab yet since I don't have an adapter for it.
Or are you talking about only having one shot at connecting the tablet to my rMBP? I'd say no, I can plug and unplug repeatedly to my heart's content using a standard microUSB cable and copy files to/from the device without rebooting let alone factory resetting it.

Ah so clearly this is just my tablet.
Yes, I mean I get one shot to plug into either Macbook (using the Samsung USB 3 cable) and thereafter no USB transfer connection of any sort is possible. The tablet simply doesn't show up on anything. Not even with the standard micro USB cable, and not with any other computer. I have to do a reset to get USB transfer back. If I use the Samsung cable (or the same cable from my Note 3 so it's not the cable itself) with any other computer I own other than the MacBooks, everything is fine. Standard micro USB with anything including MacBooks is fine.
If I'm understanding you right, your tablet won't connect via the Samsung cable to your Macbook but at least it doesn't completely kill the USB transfer just by connecting it.
Any rate I'm taking it back in the morning, and bringing my rMBP to check how the replacement works.
Yep, just the stock cable that came with it doesnt work with my rMBP. At no time have I needed to do a factory reset.
I'm not on Mavericks yet, if that makes any difference or not I don't know.
Good idea to bring the computer in.
Good luck!
The Note Pro 12.2 doesn't connect well with my 15" Retina MacBook Pro either via USB 3.0 cable. The tablet says "connected via USB 3.0" but Android File Transfer (what a piece of junk) doesn't see it. I haven't had to factory reset (which means wipe out) the tablet though. At worst, a reboot gets the tablet working with a USB 2.0 cable. With both 3.0 and 2.0 cable, the tablet shows the "x" through the battery indicating the Mac isn't outputting enough juice to charge, even over USB 3.0. Using a USB hub in general works better than direct connection to the Mac.
Thanks pdagal. Does seem to be an issue with Macs and USB 3.0. An older MacPro with USB 2.0 works fine.
Took mine in and exchanged it this morning at Best Buy. The complete disabling of USB transfer was a unique bug. New Note Pro behaves like you describe- doesn't connect to MacBook via original USB 3 cable, but at least a reboot restores USB transfer function afterwards without a factory reset.
I hope a firmware upgrade will fix this entirely.
I cant comment on the Note pro 12.2 but my note 3 i tend to use OTG cable and a thumb drive to push large files or use drop box. I could never really get android file transfer to even work consistently with my Nexus 10 running Mountain lion or mavericks on different macs.

Do you have Samsung Kies installed? If so it kills AFT until it's completely removed using the uninstaller.
Otherwise I'm surprised people have issues with AFT. It's always worked flawlessly for me on every Mac and Hackintosh I use. Even this issue wasn't an AFT problem at all.

no never did have kies. I have owned Macs and Androids since the G1 and Nexus One and have never much had luck with AFT. I could get it to work every now and then but once i figured out a thumb drive and a OTG usb cable its been just easier to throw files on a thumb drive. But I dont move alot of files around unless its setting up a new phone. Now with my Nexus 10 I use the thumb drive to keep abunch of movies on it so i dont have to worry about space and i have stuff to watch while traveling. Speaking of Hackintosh AFT worked flawlessly on my wifes old dell netbook that I did the hackintosh on.

One of my computers wont recognize Galaxy S8+

Does any one know a reason why a computer won't recognize a Galaxy S8+ when plugged in USB. To me its clear that drivers are messed up on the ZBook, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have two PCs, my wifes laptop and this HP ZBook x2 G4. All three of the other devices recognize the S8+, but the ZBook wont. I've gone into S8+ settings, turned on developer mode and turned on USB Debugging with no success. I've tried a USB C to USB C cable, as well as the USB 3.0 to USB C able that comes with the phone. Still nothing.

USB 3.0 has played much havok with S8 most recommend a 2.0 hub and seems to solve issues some of the time

First off, thank you for your feedback and your time.
Idk if thats the issue in this case. My other two PCs have no problem reading it via USB 3.0
But lets say the USB 3.0 havok IS the issue here. Does the USB 3.0 havok apply to USB-C to USB-C? My ZBook (the one having issues) has two USB-C ports. But even when my S8+ is connected to my ZBook via C to C I still have the problem. I figure if the "havok" is strictly related to USB 3.0 and it still doesn't work with C then maybe my problem is something different, unrelated to the USB 3.0 havok.
I REALLY want to connect my S8+ to my ZBook via USB-C to USB-C, so that I can use Sidesyc smoothly.
My guess would be the usb 3 driver on your laptop, perhaps try to find an updated usb3 driver.
The fact that your other two laptops see your S8 suggests that problem is with the laptop rather than S8+ or usb cable
Will look into it! Thank you!
Hi, Google a program called USBDeview.

My Pixel 2 Can't Connect with my PC

Hi XDA
I've got a Pixel 2 phone and while I want to upgrade it via fastboot (I had my phone rooted), I can't find it under fastboot devices. Rebooting to Android would not help too. So I removed the cable from my Pixel and plug it into my Samsung Galaxy Note FE but it shows up. I've tried the solutions on a strange website that says to clear data and cache for "External Storage" and "Media Storage" but it would not help. But my USB-C flash drive can work fine with my phone. My phone's firmware is QP1A.191105.004 and my PC's host OS is Arch Linux.
I don't know what could cause the problem, can anyone give some advice? If that's a hardware problem then I may need to buy a replacement part asap.
Thanks.
Hello mate, had the same thing with my pixel 2 on windows 10. My pixel would be recognised but not my pixel 2 on the same cable etc.
Best thing to do is make sure all your drivers and platform tools are bang up to date and try swapping leads and USB ports. My pixel 2 will only work in adb/fastboot on one of my 3 USB to USB C leads (not sure if it's 2.0 or 3.0 as I have no writing left on my leads) so try the above and see if that helps, they can be finicky with lead types and ports for some bizarre reason behind my comprehension.
Hope that's some help

Thank you for your help. But my PCs don't have USB Type C connectors so I can't get that tested. As for drivers, my Arch linux install had some problem and I'm thinking of reinstall it and give it a shot.

Pixel 3 doesn't recognize any usb-c device.

Hi everyone i'm facing this problem since july now, the issue is that the pixel 3 usb-c port works only with charge and nothing else, that means it doesn't work with pixel buds, doesn't work with other headphones with jack adapter, no OTG devices work, and finally PC connection wont work either.
I've tried everything possible from cleaning the port to factory resetting the phone, with no results.
Online there are few google forum threads about the problem but without any fix, so i've tried to RMA from google but even if i have still warranty, i should have paid 106€ cause my back glass cover is broken. Since i didn't want to pay that much to fix the back i bought the usb-c port replacement and i fixed it myself, i thought it would have fix it but surprisingly it didn't and i have still the same issue so working charge but no any other usb-c connection.
At this far i'm thinking it's a software problem but even Android 11 with last october patch didn't solved it , still the same: usb preferences greyed out when connecting to a PC ( tried different PC: Windows 10, Windows 7 and even Linux) same result.
Update:
I have more evidences which lead to this point, a few days ago i tried to connect my Pixel C to the laptop to transfer some files and it is suddenly showing the same problem of the Pixel 3, i have to state that the Pixel C was running an Android 9 ROM so it fits perfectly in all the reported issues about it precisely that the problem pops out since Android 9 and there seems not to be any fix for this even in the last Android 11 patch.
I also started getting the same issue. Maybe I didn't notice for a long time because I was using a Bluetooth headset for a long time. And today when I checked, it was not working for me. Charging works and pc connection is also okay for the moment. Surprised to see no one has responded to this.
This happened to me every now and then. I was able to clear it by turning USB debugging on (under developer options) then connecting it to my laptop. Unplugged it and turned USB debugging back off.

OTG issue on Poco

Hi at all,
who of you, guy has use otg cable for connect drive or pendrive on our phone?
I plug a pendrive using different otg cable that I have, but nothing happen.
I use OTG tester app and it say that OTG is enable, but nothingi happen.
So I've to understand if my phone is defective or there is some option to enable it.
I activeted CIT menù to test OTG but it fail.
IMO the issue depends for alimentation, because if I connect a drone (I'm modellist) nothing happen, while if I do the same on other phone the drone ligh on.
Any idea?
Just connected an old USB I had laying around with the USB OTG adapter I still had from my OnePlus One.
Stick was in fat32 I believe and I have an Android 11 ROM (Latest Nitrogen OS) on the Phone.
Anyway, no problems whatsoever. Was recognized immediately and gave me the Options to Explore/Eject, without any prior settings or anything.

thanks for test
my Android version is stock 10, with 2.04 MIUI stable.
I don't know if it depend from a bug or hardware issue.
The phone has 3 mounth live and I would't like to return it to Amazon for the change.
I was unlucky with Xiomi this time. I bought the RedMi note 9 pro and I change it for camera problems (dust in the lens). Now with this OTG issue....:crying:
