I know it might be a little to early to talk about Android Pie on V20 when some devices are not yet receive Android Oreo update. However, I still have some hope on V20 receiving official Android Pie update some day.
Does anyone think that your device will eventually get Pie or stuck at Oreo?

With LG's track record come back in two years
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
v20 qualifies for Pie update on paper, Pie was released within the 2 year update window and almost all flagships receives 2 major updates, whereas v20 only received 1, at some lucky regions that is.
However LG really abandoned its mobile devices; shuts down services, releases devices partly (not worldwide) and very late.
Not releasing Oreo for US996? Come on, they used to blame carriers for everything, but not releasing update for your unlocked variant even months after carrier devices are updated? They haven't pushed even security update for months. I think they dropped the ball real bad and totally deserve to go out of business, sorry.
I am a time traveller, I went 1 year into the future. There are no signs of PIE for V20 yet
On a serious note,
LG's preference will be
LGV40
G7
V35
V30s
V30
G6
V20
So even if V20 gets pie(it probably won't), it wil be at least 1 year before we see any variant of v20 gets it
Pie also requires eligibility for Treble support, allowing Google to update devices with this themselves, and requiring OEM's to only maintain a partition with what they want pre-loaded onto the device.
This would expand the lifespan of the V20 indefinitely, we'd be able to get updates at a similar speed to say a Pixel or Nexus (the latter being like the V20, an older class of flagship).
But I wouldn't hold my breath for LG putting the hours into a device that's now so low on their hierarchy.
One LineageOS 16.0 gets stable, that's about the only hope we have.
Few days ago i received the Android Oreo update on my V20 so i don't think LG will upgrade to Android Pie any soon .. but i can hope!
LG almost never go further than 1 major update.
I've owned 5 LG phone, they never receive version V3x.
So I say there is no chance LG V20 will have another major upgrade....especially it's one of the first LG phone start with Nougat.

well the g7 got it in korea..
LG actually confirmed awhile ago that v20 will get pie, apparently LG is trying to fix their image. Most likely we will get the update by the end of this year.
What about security updates, we had 2 on nougat for the TWN version.
On Oreo no updates since october/oreo hit, i would much rather get a few more of them until pie.
Security updates is abysmal from LG.
My stock import V20 still has 8.0.0 with 1st september patch .. i am not holding out any hope of getting any updates at all ..
Sadly LG has removed all support for the v20.......
According to this, we'll get it 3rd quarter.
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-9-0-update-880718/
Don't put your hope too much on this, LG might release Pie but it might be for korea only.. just like how they did for LG G4 by releasing Nougat for korea only..

If it does happen, we hope you get the time to continue the Awesome Alpha Rom into Pie (again, if you have time, since I know it's alot of hard work).
If not, we'll continue to use your AWESOME Alpha Rom on Oreo! Again, thanks for all your hard work on it.
As an aside, if LOS 16.0 (Pie) is perfected on the V20, we might test it out.

im already tested that LOS pie. its working great, and even our 2nd screen is working just like additional screen, so we got a bigger screen after all..
but the cons is,
the camera result is not good as in stock based rom and the built in DAC is not working.. for me, that 2 point (camera and DAC) is the bigest reason why im still using v20 in 2019..
for now on im just hoping in future, the stock camera and built in DAC can be ported into LOS pie sonwe got running pie also with perfect camera and V20's DAC..

Correct. You can't use the original camera apps on AOSP because they have proprietary dependencies.
Thank LG. GCam is the closest you will get, and that now has functioning Night Sight.

Verizon (or any other cell company) has no vested interested in giving root access to it's customers. The phones are loaded with crap ware to data mine what you are doing. That is valuable data to Verizon and they are not about to lose that income stream if they can help it.
I've had previous Verizon phones with the same "locked down" problems. Even though the phone would play MP3, etc; that made it so you HAD to buy any music you wanted to play through their Verizon store. Outrageous when I have 250GB of music archive I want to choose from.
I held my nose and went back to Verizon because we are planning to move to a rural area and Verizon was the only company that had any coverage. Stuck again in locked down hell.
Someone PLEASE find a way to root these phones!

Root the V10 with bootloader locked and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is impossible...
The only method to root V10 with bootloader locked is on 5.1.1 Android Lollipop with some kind of dump, i know its possible because when i have my G Flex 2 i have bootloader locked and i root it in 5.1.1, but when update to 6.0 Marshmallow i cant root so, if you want root for now you need to be in 5.1.1.
We will get android 7 for sure but i also do not expect it before the end of the year. They will first focus on G5 which most probably will get it around september/october and after that will work on V10 and G4. Android 7 have some good new features like the multitasking and advanced doze mode but frankly my V10 is working perfectly even now with marshmallow so i am in no rush to get the update as soon as possible. Lets hope that we will get it as christmas present before end of the year.
Outside of vulkan I couldn't care less about nougat.
In fact I think it should be called 6.1 not 7.0, there is nothing interesting about it multiple windows? This has been around for awhile if the app supports it.. My note 3 had multi window support and so does the LG v10 it's pretty useless
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It should also be noted that marshmallow doze features can be enhanced with 3rd party apps such as ForceDoze which can decrease the time it takes for doze to kick in when the screen is off.

LG Android Nougat Update
LG has earned pretty good reputation among devs for updating their flagships faster than anyone else to the latest Android version. Last update also, LG updated their flagship, LG G4 to Marshmallow soon after the update was released for the Nexus devices. We can expect that for the current flagship LG G5 and the previous flagship LG G4 with LG Android 7.0 Nougat Update.
Here is the list of all devices which will get LG Android Nougat Update :
LG G5
LG G4
LG V10
These are the devices which are confirmed to get the Nougat Update from LG, we don’t have any confirmation till now. We’ll be updating the post when it will be available.
Also, LG’s updates are generally lagged by the carriers in US, so the LG Android Nougat Update timeline may vary from different carriers like Verizon, Sprint, etc. And we can expect the updates to come to the devices listed above just after 2 months from release of Android Nougat.
Long story short, at least we're getting it. After rumors of the V20 coming out already many people believed LG would forego the update to pressure people into buying the V20. We know now, that's not the case.
I for one would really like the Nougat update. Split screen might have existed since a long time ago but official support from Google means wider adoption. Vulkan of course is another must have feature along with the improved Doze. I also love the interface seen on the V20 including the notification/quick toggle shade. The V20 also allows the second screen toggles to work whilst the main screen is on (sound, wifi, flash, camera etc.), something that the V10 does not allow. Hopefully this will be implemented as well along with other second screen improvements like allowing all notifications to go on the second screen.
The doze improvements can be brought to marshmallow via ForceDoze which can make doze kick in immediately when the screen is off.
Multi screen I have never found particularly useful for even big screen phones, there is simply not enough room to legitimately work with. Great for tablets nearly useless for phones.
Correct me of I am wrong but The hardware has to support vulkan in order to take advantage of it right? Pretty useless unless you've got a newer phone that can use it.
Nougat to me sounds more like a minor update (should be 6.1 not 7). It sounds like the most lackluster update to android yet.

LG G5 F700L Korean version has got Nougat 7.0. I am from India and I got this update via LG bridge software,
I do have LG V10 but still no luck with LG bridge. I manually downloaded MM kdz file from LG site and flashed.
It was quite unfortunate though, as back when Nougat was released last year, LG initially listed G4 and V10 to receive Nougat. I just hope with the re-affirmation by them that they will test the firmware well and not do a botched job of the Nougat build. Since it is highly unlikely we are getting the next O software by Google, let's hope we atleast get the latest Nougat 7.1/7.2.
question: I love and hate this phone...camera is great in steady shot, but when fast focus is needed it fails. When I take pics of kids, lots of pic. came out blurry, now, what do you think, can Nougat fix this or it's just slow hardware?

i think Nougat doesnt fix what you want, only thing Nougat will bring to us most likely is the new UI from G5/V20 or G6, some doze optimizations, multi-window will be more friendly and nothing more...
hope they can fix the Hi-Fi DAC to be used with the speaker and not only with the earphones, hope to less system storage ocupied by the system and more to the user, and really hope the GPS will be fixed too because my V10 fixing time of GPS is fast but, every 2/3 minuts lost signal and this is really what have dissapointing me in this device!
...and (i dont belive this will happen but) i hope they remove the sh1tty beauty mode for the front facing camera, this make the photos look ugly and have 0 quality!
Since this probably will be the last OS to our V10 i think users deserve unlockable bootloaders and then users can cook their own rom's and kernels (this is a dream for me since day 1 of have the phone in my hands, since july last year!).

Their beta is still ongoing I don't think we'll get it on the remaining days of 2017 nor even on January 2018.
Technically they can say- " well we did...there is beta Oreo released before 2018." which is lame.

now, that's the answer
First hello to everyone,
I was wondering if this time will be the same as it was with G6 so I asked support and they answerd this
I qoute
Good afternoon Alen,*
Thank you for your query regarding your LG G7;*
I have had a look into this for you and sadly as we are an in warranty repair centre this is not something that we get advance notice on. As LG handsets only got Android 8 a few months ago I am guessing that this would be at some point in the early quarter of next year.*
Once the android version is created it then has to go to the individual manufacturers who then test for compatibility and will rework anything which causes issues and then the testing on handsets begins and I am led to believe that this is a length process.*
The likely hood is that the update will be on the handsets before we even know that it has been released.*
So when it comes to update, even with "lg's new update center" thing will be the same.
And to be clear i don't hate or something, I am okey with my device preformances this is more discussion type post cuz as i remember lg said that this new center sill get us update faster and clearly thats not the case
Sorry for typos
There is some hysteria on having the latest software, but in fact it is even better if the software actually works, hence the lenghty process of testing before release. Android Pie for instance is still very buggy for those vendors who are releasing early public test versions.
The current 10f-version of Android 8.0 seems pretty stable on the G7, and has minimum battery drain. As long as they are following up with regular security patches as they are released, there is nothing much to complain about. I'd rather take a problem free Android Pie early next year than be ridden with bugs up til then.

I could not agree more to this. Software upgrades are a nice thing if they take the time to run it stable. I prefer stable software and better security above that. Thats why i left Sony for one reason tru unstable releases that took long time to fix or not and a phone that loose hes full functuality with crashes or connection problems at most important times is a pain.Untill now my G6 did fine and my G7.Be patient and be happy your G7 is a trusty companion on the way.

This is why Apple products are expensive and maintain their value. Long term Seamless updates across all devices, regions and carriers. Android OEMs need to stop modifying Android and just use stock software route. No one wants bloat and gimmick features at the expense of slow updates that may never come. They pretty much do this to market new devices and screw us.

Apple products are expensive because people are fan boys and will pay a lot of money for questionable tech. They don't even include fast chargers. They are seperate and very expensive.

Pixel devices are the best representation of Android. They receive monthly updates, have no bloat and long term update support when compared to every other OEM. LG has always been behind updates and there's no excuse for that except they would rather sell you another device. We have let OEMs be ok with poor device support because we don't demand more. Yeah unfortunately I was stuck with tmobile. I agree the pixel is the way to go.
The only issue I have with the Pixel is Google using it to push there cloud storage. That's why they won't put SD card slots on them. And I'm sorry but despite the fact it's 2018 we are still not a 100% connected world, not to mention at least in the US almost every carrier has data limits. Plus there are some that don't want to put everything they own up in the cloud. SD card storage is really the only reason I won't buy a Pixel.
And don't even mention USB-c adapters, I shouldn't have to carry around extra crap for more storage!
Void4ever
Apple have good products but not good for 1000 $ or more. They do update older models but we all know that they also made older phones go slower and there was problems with battery drain ect.
I am from Bosnia so here Iphones are really expensive and i mean it. Also Pixel is just a little bit cheaper.
I really like LG phones, after my HTC I had G4 G5 G6 and now G7. If I hadnt drop my G6 and brooke it I wouldnt even go to G7.
For the money you get good quality phone, nice specs and I dont mind ux cuz i am not fan of that rounded look on stock android.
I went and took Huawei p20 after my g6 and I had it for a day then returned it give more money and bought G7 cuz p20 is like toy compared to g7.
And even updates are not that big of a deal for me but what i mind is that they promised that big update center for faster updates and now not that we wont get android 9 for a while but as you guys said we are still on july patch.
I know that its better to wait for stable versions but they could be more efficiant with patches.

Anyway, official Android Pie looks to be way forward from now. LG V40 was just released, with Android 8.1 .....
On the bright side, for those with smart watches using Google Wear so was Wear OS 2.0 just released and it is entirely based on 8.0 Oreo. I suppose handsets with Android 8.0 will have a more bug free experience using those watches.
Android P has been released in south korea and they haven't started even global beta for android P. I am more concerned about LG G7thinq update to android P in India. Guys do you have any news ? Or predictions
Sometimes mid or end of March if we are lucky. It might even be rolled out in April judging by how they rolled updates earlier.
It took them more then 3 months to roll out 4k 60 fps support for Indian model.
I wonder how companies like OnePlus can deliver updates quickly.

because they have less in quantity but more motivated stuff of developers, less corruption and bureaucracy than large giants like lg mobile. and yet 1+ has just 2 models, in fact one model per year cycle. it's far easier to update 1 model due to 1 SoC support instead of 4-5 Soc as have LG
I think CEO of LG Mobile still lives in XX century and thinks of smartphones as of like TV sets, which don't need monthly security patches.
OnePlus releases 2 phones a year similar to LG. LG also releases 2 flagship phones a year(not counting entry and budget) with same SOCs. Meanwhile LG didn't even update 1 phone, OnePlus successfully pushed updates to even last year's models. Even Samsung pushed Android pie to flagship's.
I love my G7 but I might buy a pixel 2 as a second phone just to stay in the Android update circle.
Even Samsung has update the s9 and Note 9. The s8 beta is live. There is no excuse for bull**** like that.
And after research I found out that it's the same with their old smartphone.
They have no place selling "flagships" if they are not supported.
Yesterday I saw an update coming I thought it was Pie sadly it was the December security patch. This is unnaceptable.
The bigest problem with LG is that they have so many diffrent firmwares for diffrent regions of the world. Why? Just an international model will be ok. Why so many versions of G7 for example? This fragmentation is the key for Bankruptcy!

Yes correct. Lg chose hardestway to implement software upgrade to smartphone. They don't have community where we can discuss bugs and update related query.
I contacted LG service center India and asked about pie update. They said it will be rolled out after v40 is launched in India. Estimate they gave was March or April.
This is unbelievable, they have update ready and just that they don't want to roll it off before their next phones release. This is straight a rip-off of consumers. LG should stop their carelessness attitude.
Incase if anyone wants to get in touch with LG (1800 315 9999 or 1800 180 9999)

LG v40 had been released in India..so for what they are waiting.Surely LG don't want to be big player in Indian market .This will be my first and last LG phone

I don't think the guy you talked to was in any situation to answer this as I'm sure you can already buy V40 on Amazon.

I'm starting to feel the same. It was this or the p20 pro and the Huawei was sold out for two weeks until the end of the sale. I could of gotten a pixel or whatever but I had some bad luck with my last Google phone so yeah.... Idk the phone is good, but like seriously, BTS??? Why sell this in Canada? That "smart"world store is sad. Some of the fonts and stuff are ok, but like, if they put so much effort into regionlocking these phones, they could at least region lock the content in the lg store. Glad that "benefit" is over.
Definitely this is my first and last LG device, I had two options while buying this phone(G7 or op6).Since I was using one plus device for last 4 years I decided to go with LG and the phone is good but they screw us in updates. What makes them slow?. Are they not interested in Indian market.Lets trend this update issue by using #lgg7update #myfirstandlastlgphone.
My two cents is that the next version to get pie will be the EM and I'm highly doubtful it will happen before march/april
I agree that I have a Nexus hangover for quick updates but this doesn't mean that it takes a company more then 6 months to roll updates. It is totally not acceptable for a flagship phone.
I got convinced to buy this phone after watching pocket now review. Guess they get paid by LG for praising the phone.
Sure this phone have a good hardware but software updates are also necessary. Google re engineered Android with People Treble for faster updates, but it's is of no use for LG. Kudos to OnePlus, essential to release updates quickly. Even for Samsung who completely reimagined UI released update before LG.
People who feel the same please tell your friends and family to not to but LG.

You can always buy Apple
This is a great phone for the price. The best audio ever.
So chill, you will have pie. Or you can flash the pie kdz. Or you can root and flash AOSP pie .
You have so many choices and you just wait and blame LG.
XDA is for people who want to tinker with their phones .

You should have been on the stage where LG CEO announced the update center to deliver software updates to tell potential customers like me and others to buy Apple. I spent my money and it's my right to curse LG if they are not delivering.
This post is under Guides, News, and Discussions and it seems like we are not breaking any rules. Also, LG is pretty bad with open source community, so there is nothing to tinker around LG phones and thus we discuss.
You can contribute to the community ...
We have unlocked bootloader, treble, kernel sources.
You can do it yourself if you really want :silly:
"HMD Global has announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1, making it the first Nokia smartphone to get a stable build of the latest version of Android."
https://m.gsmarena.com/nokia_8_1_android_10_update-news-39549.php
Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?
Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.
its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

My brother is using a Nokia 7 plus and I had Android 9 weeks before him and even with security updates Nokia isn't faster all the time compared to Xiaomi.
I've never managed to get any kind of custom rom working through TWRP because of the kinstalldeviceopenerror.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.

Nothing official, but I think q1/2020 would be a good guess.
Last year Mi A1 got the Android 9 update on the 23rd of december.
My guess is Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10 in late december.
