Since OP6 is launching with oreo on board and Android P beta is already available for OP6 does that mean that the next major android version will be the last update for the OP6 as OEM like to follow 2 major upgrades for their flagships ?

Maybe because OnePlus 3 was launched with marshmallow and last major update was oreo so it could be but OnePlus 6 will support Project Treble so don't know for sure but I think it'll recieve more updates.

What about S, T etc.? Or am I missing something?
I think that support for a phone depends on its popularity, the manufacturers do not follow strict guidelines, I mean, they respect their promises but they may extend support if a product is very popular and has a very large user base. And I predict that the OP6 will be very popular because it doesn't have obvious shortcomings, it looks to be ticking all the essential boxes.

My question was especially if there are plans after Android R or if Google already mentioned something that it will stop. I thought I maybe missed something (also looking at Fuchsia).
I don't get why people worry SO much about what versions of android a device will get as long as it gets solid security updates for at least a year after release. If the phone is very good already, would it be such torture to keep living with it the way it is? Don't think so.

It wouldn't be torture, but it would be nice to think you can use the phone for a few years and be running the latest and greatest software on it, without the need for upgrading the phone to the newest model.
So, the phone is just released and we're already talking about his its end of support?
if not there will always be project trebble roms for it .
Here's the official Software Support outline from OnePlus
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-software-maintenance-schedule.862347/
So two years means Android Q for sure but maybe not Android R .
One Plus 6 was released in about April 2018, Pie comes out is released in September
April 2019 One Plus 7??? then Android Q in about September.
The One Plus 6 would be about a year and a half old.
April 2020 One Plus 8 ???? then Android R in September but then the One Plus 6 would be 2 and a half .... may not see Android R
I can live with that replacing a cell phone every two years is not unreasonable.
What bother me about software cycles is I know this is all arbitrary and is done so we would want to buy new phones.
Meanwhile if I wanted to root, I am sure my One Plus 6 will work with third party ROMs "download them from XDA" many years after OnePlus abandons my device.
It will receive Android R
Op6 will be updated to Android R as op3/3t launched with marshmallow and officially will be updated to Android pie as confirmed by OnePlus...Op 6 n Op6t(already launched on pie.. so definitely Android R) will receive Android R
I've searched for this everywhere.. but haven't find an answer.
What will happen to the oneplus 6 and the other unpixel devices that support P beta, when the development ends and google releases the public version ?
Will it be instantly updated alongside the pixel devices ?
isnt the whole purpose of treble to make the updates easily available, the rest is up to manufacturers
Android P will be in Beta till the Pixel 3 is released - normally November.
One would assume that a stable kernel and OS will be available for OnePlus to use around that time (maybe as late as Jan 2019 depending on OnePlus's resources). Be patient. If you are apart of the P beta program then get used to the issues associated with beta software

No, it's supposed to get it much quicker then other OEMs if a phone is part of Project Treble. The Google Pixel phones will ALWAYS be the first to get it as it's made for the Pixel line... the OEMs like OnePlus will get it sonner then most and it's just much easier to get it to the phones. So expect it roughly a month or so maybe 2 after it's released on the Pixel line.

Android P will probably be released in August like Android Oreo, and it will probably be official in August/September
Lol. People will never be happy... Whaaaa? No official P at the same time with Pixel 3? Feel blessed that you have Project Treble. Before Treble, OEMs was getting source code only after the final version was released. That was the point when OEMs could start working on their betas. Or to put it on other words: first betas late November (in the best scenario) and final release February, March. Now we have betas in May-June and people are still crying lol.

I understand perfectly... Google will never allow another device to have the newest Android version before the pixel line and once it's out on the pixels, they will release it to the other pens when they choose, which likely will be a bit after it's on the pixels for a bit. It's just the way it is, treble or not.
what's the rush anyway?? it's a freaking phone not your life support system... smh

100% agree with this! If you want the latest and greatest first, then Pixel phones are the best options. For me, the latest security updates are the most important thing - any phone manufacturer that doesn't release these on time is dead to me (Huawei is the worst).. I think what OnePlus is doing is better than the average, so if you don't like it, move along..

It's available as a beta.. they're already in the process of customizing it... And that's a first for android and google.. and that's why in my opinion it should be available for the beta supported devices much faster than previous iterations, I Mean..... What's the point of the beta then ?

I suggest you learn how to quote first
With this finally being released, do you think we'll get the update on our devices or will we be stuck on Oreo
Sometime next year maybe.
Of course the P20 Pro will get Android 9. It would be a huge embarrassment for Huawei if it didn’t. I‘m pretty confident it will happen, maybe even in late 2018. I‘m secretly also hoping for Android 10.
I hope it does, but with how Huawei updates phones I have feeling we may not see it anytime within the next 6 - 12 months. Look at the mate 10 Pro, still no Oreo 8.1 and how long as that been out.
Sent from my Huawei P20 Pro using XDA Labs
When I spoke to an Huawei rep they said we're guaranteed one major update so technically yes, we will get Android 9.
I got Oreo on my mate 9 one year later in dec 2017. So I presume we will get pie by April 2018.
This is their reply (UK) when asked about if for P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro
I have verified and currently we do not have information if the two devices you mentioned will receive the Android P update

I love the P20 pro but i can't go with Huawei ever again they're just like motorola with updates its always "if or when" they decide, i can't see why they don't let us get it via a beta programme or something.
They have beta programs in China. Club.Huawei is quite an active user base and new features get tested by the members' beta program. Unfortunately, non-chinese Huawei-IDs can not enter the beta.
Here is the thread (attn: chinese obviously): https://club.huawei.com/thread-16854269-1-1.html
We'll get it by Q4 of 2018.
I have my p20 pro for three months and I have got 3 updates. One every month. 128 the day I opened it, 131 the next month and now 152. What delays?? What more to ask.??

Well,
If you didnt count a major update (like oreo to pie), i alreary update my P20 pro 7 times,
From initial .103 to .152 now. With august security update. So i guess, there's no delay in that regards.
Huawei is absolute crap when it comes to Android upgrades, even for their latest and greatest phone.
Genuinely don't expect to see anything until early to mid 2019. Just pray for ROM development is all.

But a lot of users in UK who have received the C782 model aren't getting these updates and thus reason why they are not happy about the update process. It's luck if you got the C432 model and Huawei won't advise which resellers are selling them.
Lucky we've just received update with July security fixes, prior to that we got one last month with June's update and the update before that was the update that included April's security fixes.
They should have just released one version of the phone for all markets so everyone got same updates.

The Mate 10 Pro is still on 8.0 and it was released November last year and is classed as flagship device, yet only had 2 updates this year which included March and June Security updates.
So probably won't get 8.1 until earliest November and 9 sometime next year.
As for P20 Pro with the new Mate 20 imminent then we won't see an update on the device until after that is released and probably not till next year.

"HMD Global has announced the rollout of Android 10 for the Nokia 8.1, making it the first Nokia smartphone to get a stable build of the latest version of Android."
https://m.gsmarena.com/nokia_8_1_android_10_update-news-39549.php
Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?
Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.
its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.

Chances for it are rather low.
So basically Android 9 was released by Google on August 6, 2018 and we got the Beta for Pie at the end of November/ beginning of December 2018. Considering that Android 10 was released by Google on May, 2019. We can assume that it takes roughly 3-4 months for the first year Android One phones. Mi A1 got its second Android update (Android 9) at the end of December 2018, which means that it took the Mi A1 4 months to get its second Android update, which means altogether that XIAOMI IS FRICKING LATE AGAIN.
So yeah, I also hope for at least a 10 Beta, but I'm not keeping my hopes up about it. I'd suggest you do the same. Cheers.

No, this only shows Xiaomi's priorities. They put the best part of their developers to work on MIUI, and leave A1 phones for their spare time.
There was a mention in other thread a while ago about Xiaomi wanting to drop A1 phones all together, but we never got confirmation about it.

It's not necessary for MIUI 11 to have android 10, on my other phone I got MIUI 11 and I still have android 9.
MIUI is Xiaomi's selling point. Android One probably has a relatively low priority and therefore very few manpower, as it produces the least profit. All of their customer support people I had contact with didn't even knew that they sell non MIUI devices.
Edit: Nokia isn't any better. My Nokia 7 Plus usually gets the security updates later than my A2 Lite and Android 10 will not be around until next year as well.

I heard MIUI 11 is not at all Android 10 (at least on my father's Redmi Note 7 and neighbor's Redmi Note 8) and Xiaomeme (as we call it since the 'bricking' update of Mi A2) shows that they're really cockteasing Android 10 in most of their devices where in fact it is still Android Pie (at least in developing countries like PHL regions).
And yeah, AndroidOne is not their priorities, even they did not fix bugs, but instead, adding more bugs than what it already have.

Do you think Huawei P Smart 2019 is a flagship??? It got Android 10 update!! Plus this phone has heavy bloated UI instead of our phone’s naked Android UI. Huawei updated it before the Xiaomi&Google’s Android One phone.
Google should take action about it. Google can suspend Xiaomi’s Android One licence. Xiaomi intentionally not giving any info about promised update and they still didnt gived any OS update. No one wants to buy a lie!
I thought the whole point of the Android One program was to ensure that the phones received timely updates for 2 years, which would include at least 2 OS updates.
Oh guys, calm down. December update for A2 lite isnt even out and you are talking about bad update policy. Once a month we get a security patch and Android Q is guaranteed for our device.
What do you all expect from a phone that costs 150,- (and now even cheaper)?
Buy a Pixel phone if you want beta and stable versions of the latest android.
