S7 videos take up room, even after deletion - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Seasons greetings! So here's the situation. I have a T-Mobile SM-930U Galaxy S7 on Oreo. The issue I'm having is that when I am recording video (QHD and FHD) and delete the file, there is still space taken up in the phone storage. Whether it is recorded to the phone or SD card, it still takes up a gigantic amount of room. I've been using the Samsung camera app and even tried a couple of other camera apps and it's the same result. I take a lot of videos for my blog and am forced to format my phone literally every two days. I searched through every folder, including hidden folders and used Cleanmaster. I've run out of ideas and don't know what else to do. Has anyone had this problem or was able to solve it? Please help ?

[Q] Photos not showing in DCIM/Camera folder

Hello World!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Sii and have been taking photos happily for some time. I'm currently low on space in the phone's storage but have plenty free on the SD card. The problem is that my recent photos taken no longer show up in the DCIM/Camera folder though they are viewable in the Gallery. However, since I want to download them to my PC, I need to find them somewhere.
The odd thing is that I do have .TEC files in my DCIM/Camera/cache folder which I believe are the actual image photos in some sort of proprietary format. I wonder if maybe they couldn't be converted to .JPG for some reason so they're just stuck in the cache still.
Has anyone else encountered this or is anyway aware of a solution?
Thanks!

So I just came across this thread...Not sure if you ever go tthis resolved or not... but in the playstore is an app called TEC2JPG. This will do what you want it to. Typically, those TEC files are just the thumbnail cache. The free version gives you 3 conversions, and the paid version is unlimited. Test it with the free version first.

Didnt Unmount SD card before removing, all pics are gone! Please help

I have posted a similar thread in android discussion but i was centered around Android apps to recover data, now im desperate for anything.
So a bout a week and a half ago, I was having trouble playing a movie over DLNA so I took my SD (Sandisk 64gb) card out of my phone and put it in an android tablet that I am able to connect to the TV via HDMI. Movie played fine and then I took it out of that tablet and put it back in my phone and went about my business using the phone again taking photos etc. Then about 2 weeks ago I was asked to send over a photo I had taken a few weeks ago. So I went in to look for it. all my photos were gone. everything else is still on the SD card but the photos.
I have tried recuva and photorec which has only recovered about 25-26 photos, and the photos are in a very small subset, it doesn't contain my most recent photos or my oldest but ones in the middle sort of. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am hoping that my photos are not gone for good since the photos that were recovered were in the middle section. I am considering the test disk partition recovery but I also dont know if that will do anything either, since I dont know if I "lost a partition". It seems most of these recovery programs are designed for "deleted" files, but I didn't delete these files, I dont know what removing without unmounting them did to it and why it only affected my photos.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

for some reason my p3110 has stopped seeing photos and mp3s on the physical sd card...
can browse to the directory of mp3s and play them and quickpic sees photos fine(just not stck app)... If I move mp3s to internal tabs sees them just for some damned reason not on sdcard!!!
Have reformated the card and tried another card and still no joy...
on stock rom rooted and modified with agni kernel...
worked fine till yesterday.

About 6 months after I bought mine GT-P3113, it stopped reading the SD card (PNY) for no apparent reason, not just photos or music, any files. I could still read the card on my PC (Windows Vista). I backed up the files and reformatted the SD card (32 GB). The Tab 2.0 would not read that card even after reformatting. I copied the files to a new disk (Sandisk), and haven't had problems in over two years. I never modified the Stock ROM however. I recall reading complaints of spontaneous SD cards problems with Samsung products. My wife has a Galaxy Tab 3, and I have had a Galaxy S3 phone for around 2 years without any SD card problems. What I did learn from the experience was to back up the Tablet/Phone periodically. I do so about every month.
The only thing I can think of for the music and photos problem is that the apps need to "refresh" somehow.

I agree with the refresh issue... But seem's no way to do it...Tried a few appsa on market but none work.

I found this solution. Practical if it is discovering a new directory, not if you need to do it for every new file.
How to refresh the gallery in Android
Posted on December 22, 2012
I was facing a problem on my Samsung Galaxy S2 where the gallery was not showing the photos that were present in a certain folder. While trying to share some pics on Whatsapp I realized if Gallery cannot see them, you cannot share them. Well now I had to figure out what can be done.
While searching the net I found out the following steps to work properly for me.
Go to settings – apps – gallery
Clear cache, clear data, force close
Go to settings – apps – media storage
Clear cache, clear data, force close
Hard reset (cold boot) this will not delete any data
Next time you open Gallery it may not contain anything, but give it a minute while the system is still scanning the device & you will find that only the folders you want to be visible, are visible.
This has been quoted directly from this site
Props to janner43 for his solution / trick.
If you are not comfortable (or do not understand the steps) you might want to consult someone who knows more about Android or the reseller from whom you got your phone. I am not responsible in anyway if your device starts acting weird. Use at your own risk.
I have had problems with photos too. I discovered that if I create new folders on the sdcard and copy the photos into the new folders I can see them. I know that it seems too easy but it has worked for me several times.

256GB SD permissions and raw photos?

Many times a simple problem turns complex....... like now.
I take many photos on my phone, dSLR, GoPro, MavicPro, etc. and always shoot RAW. I do my post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop. On my S8+ I discovered LR is not importing the .DNG files. I find out it seems they need to be in the Camera Roll and I configured the stock camera to store them on the SD. I'm using the promo 256GB Samsung SD.
OK. I'll poke around with a file manager. In the rocess I find and try to delete an old folder. It asks for permission to access, I think no problem I've seen this many times before. HOWEVER, I can not grant permission the SD does not appear on the permissions screen!! Then I try a different software and see that the card is defined differently. One software even has it as a USB drive. Another simply calls it "Storage". In any case, I can't do much with it. The system seems to access it just fine in most cases.
I think OK I'll re-format it, dead end. How about merging it with the internal storage to have one huge single place for storage (not my favorite way since I may need to read the SD in a different device in case of a failure), this would solve my Lightroom issue as then I save .DNGs to the internal Camera Roll, nope.
I know I'm rambling.
The questions are:
Can this big SD be merged with the internal storage? Is there a size limit or is that not possible any more?
Anyone else using Lightroom Mobile and shooting RAW? What is your workflow?

I can't download anything to my phone

Good morning everyone,
A few months ago I bought a new phone: a samsung Grand prime. I'm so disappointed in this purchase.
Despite the fact that I added a memory card, I can't do anything with this phone. It's saturated 24 hours a day. I have to do the following at least 2 times: settings > device maintenance > storage > cleaning) to be able to continue using it.
The only applications I have managed to download are Facebook, instagram, whatsapp and viber. Nothing really crazy though. I can't access my photos anymore (I can't open the gallery because the storage space is supposedly insufficient) even though all my photos have been transferred to the card.
Does anyone have the same problem? And if not, what brand, model will you advise me?
Thank you for your help.
My goodness you bought a really really really old phone.. If I remember correctly 2014.. Or was it 2013.
Things is this. Apps have evolved to require more processing power.. And require more storage and ram and processing power.
I'm not sure if this is a new thread or a really old thread.. Im just surprised you can still buy this phone brand new in 2020.

The apps that you listed are social media apps, social media apps are well known for demanding a lot from your devices hardware resources(CPU, RAM, etc). It is no surprise that your device struggles to keep up with demand with multiple social media apps installed, they are running constantly in the background even after you close them, they continually run in order to scan for notifications for those apps.
As for not being able to view your photos due to insufficient space. That may be because your device has a limited /data or cache partition. Even when viewing content that is stored on an external sdcard, it cannot be displayed unless it is loaded into your cache partition. If your cache partition does not have enough free space, it can't load or display the photo.
You can try partitioning your external sdcard to create a "swap" partition that acts as a type of RAM/cache in order to store actively loaded/running files/processes. This may give your device more "cache" to use.

Okay, that explains it, then, lol.
Unfortunately, it's a recent thread. I was on vacation in Africa, and I dropped my phone (oops). It was unusable. So I tried to buy a phone that wasn't too expensive and that I could still use.
I took this one at random, the salesman didn't really advise me either.
