So, today I spoke to Xiaomi customer care and asked them what version of Gorilla Glass does Poco F1 have.
To my surprise, they said the device comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. I asked them repeatedly if it's GG3 or GG5 and the rep kept saying it's GG5
I am not sure if he was bluffing or if the device really comes with GG5
Even on Corning official website, they didn't mention anything about the version of GG used on Poco F1
Maybe someone can ask them if there is anyway to display from the USB port WITH A CABLE (not wireless) to an external monitor/TV?
What is the USB spec?
I think it's just USB 2.0 data & charging with a Type-C Jack.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/help/poco-f1-mhl-hdmi-t3842287
At its price range, 3rd version is more reasonable

Even I am confused. And even Corning didn't mention the version GG that was used on Poco F1. But on other devices, they mentioned it.
Link: https://www.corning.com/gorillaglass/in/en/smartphones-with-gorilla/xiaomi/poco-f1.html
Anyway, I have sent an email to Corning. Let see if they responded back.
Update: Okay so I got a response from Corning and this is what they have to say.
Now this seems to be highly suspicious to me. Why doesn't Xiaomi want to release the version of GG used on this device. I got a call from customer support team yesterday apologizing for giving me incorrect information. Poco F1 doesn't have GG5. But the guy who called me couldn't tell me what version does the device have. He said he only knows it has 2.5D GG. Anyway, I will now tweet Xiaomi India CEO with this screenshot. It's our right to know what we are using.

I don't think it's GG3 as I have used GG3 on MI A1 and Nokia 7 plus without any screen protector and didn't get a single scratch. But on Poco F1, I already got 2 scratches. Not only me, but a lot of people have reported that the glass on Poco F1 is very scratch prone. I know I can avoid the scratches by using a tempered glass. But I don't like using another layer of plastic sheet on the screen that affects the touch response and reduce the vividity of the screen.
It's most likely a version 3 or newer. It also might vary depending on whether it is made in India/China.
Why is it so important for you to know what version it is anyway?
If you're worried about scratches just take more care of your device or use a screen protector.

Agreed and this thread is completely pointless imo
Gorilla glass or not...it wont avoid any scratches, a little sandgrain in your pocket and its done
Maybe marketing reasons.
You hope to have GG5 installed over GG3, but ask yourself, what's the difference? Is it really more scratchproof? I guess not, just look at scratch tests online of different phones.
Gorilla Glass is a trademark and a selling argument, therefore phone manufacturer most likely have to pay money to promote their products with latest GG5, instead of simply GG.

What are you even doing here if you find this post "Completely pointless"?
You should be ignoring it rather than wasting your time on commenting. And F.Y.I, I think I know what can be posted and what not. If you got any problem (which you shouldn't since I didn't violate any XDA policy), report it to the mod rather than being sarcastic. Do you guys always have to intervene everywhere to divert a simple conversation into a hot argument? When you do something, that's fair. And when others do it, it's pointless and stupid?
Thank you!

It is important for me to know because I feel so. It's not about being worried, it's about having complete information about the device that I am using. I paid for the device and I have full right to have my doubt cleared. Is there a problem if I want to clarify or create a thread on XDA asking others about their opinion?? If YES, then would you mind guiding me to the XDA section where it is written so?
Thank You!!
Hey brother relax, would be nice to know anyway. But i believe the only differenc between 3th and 5th gen of GG is the resistance against cracks isn't it? Like drop and impacts.
Btw our poco is pretty unresistent against random drops, you can check it from youtube tests

True! Thats what I an saying. I have used GG3 on Mi A1 and Nokia 7 plus and J know how good it is. But the glass on Poco F1 is not that good. I already got a scratch, I don’t know how and from where. J don't remember dropping it or placing it with something else. My other device Nokia 7 pmus manages not to get scratched in the last 3 months.
Yeah that sucks, my gf poco already got microscratches too and she and it has been barely a month she bought it

Didn't intend to offend you.
I just dont understand how it makes any difference knowing the answer.
It's a glass screen. It will scratch. Just take better care of it. :good:
Scratch happen due to tiny dust particles not because of key or knife which youtuber shows because iron and other metals have hardness lower than Gorilla Glass which is 6 but dust particles has hardness of 9 so they will easily scratch any kind of Gorilla Glass whether it's GG6 or GG3. Only sapphire glass has hardness equal to dust particles that is 9. That's why they are used in expensive watches but it is too expensive even apple doesn't use it except on camera lenses. For proof you can watch "Jerry rig everything's" video on poco f1 where he scratches its screen with different grades of hardened materials it gets scratched on level 6 like every other smartphone (even note 9, Apple 10s also gets scratched on level 6). The one who has greater hardness than other will scratch it. Hardness is measured on scale of 1 to 9 where 9 is the hardest material on earth which is Dimond. This is why Dimond is very difficult to cut but it can cut everything. Iron has greater hardness than wood that's why it is able to cut it.
So if there's any dust particle on your screen and you just slides your fingers on it or just rubs your screen against anything like in pocket then it's done. They are so tiny that you can't even notice them. They are everywhere in your pocket, on your fingers everywhere.
The deference between GG3 and GG6 is of only thickness. GG3 is two times thicker than GG6. You can experience this by looking at your screen, you will notice that screen is not touching the glass and there is slight gap between glass and screen because glass has some thickness but if you have ever used GG6 glass phone then you will feel like you are just touching and typing on the screen itself (which feels amazing, like in Samsung Galaxy s9 or note 9) there is no difference between screen and glass, It's that thin but also having same hardness and strength as GG3.
If you hate tempered glass like me but also don't want scratches at the same time then you can use film like screen guards. They don't add any thickness plus doesn't reduce any touch response and don't get bubbles on edges. They are also very clear, you will forget that you have any kind of screen guard on. Here is the link of clear screen guard that I'm using its one of the best film type screen guard available bit expensive but worth it. You can search on youtube "ringke dual easy" to learn how to apply it cause it has four layer and bit tricky. It is self dust removing type of screen guard. If you get bubbles after applying it then don't worry they will vanish after 2 or 3 days. Trust me I'm not promoting anything I'm using this product. There are two screen guard in ane pack. Hope i helped you.

Hi Guys
I ordered this phone yesterday and now I'm actually just waiting to receive it.
I think the phone seems awesome at its price, although I was close at buying a brand new replacement LG O2x for only 66% of the price of Galaxy R.
I'm still a little in doubt if I will keep the phone or not, mainly due to the fear of a screen which is easily scratched. Most other phones out there uses Corning Gorilla Glass, but Galaxy R only uses "scratch-resistant" glass.
Also the new announcements at Mobile World Conference have my interest, e.g. to have a smaller-in-the-pocket phone with similar or better resolution.
What are you experiences so far? Have you made minor surface scratches or is the screen actually quite sturdy?
I would prefer not to use a screen protector.
Best regards, Martin / mhca
The screen glass is pretty sturdy and is actually scratch resistant.
But it would be recommended for heavy users that applying a scratch guard would be better and you can have a peace of mind as you would have to care less about scratches.
About better handsets available in the future only time will tell. But one thing wont change, that is Nvidia's huge efforts to bring game developers to support Tegra devices which will have very few parallels in the Android handsets market.
Till then tuned !
yep SGR has less sturdy scratch resistant glass.. I would prefers gorilla glass.. but sometime it is overrated too lol!...
so my phone already got a tiny scratch after 4th day bought it.. hehe..
I put it inside my pocket together with few coins...

Exactly what I'm worried about. I would never keep the phone in my pocket together with coins.
However, sometimes I toss it somewhere lying together with other stuff, e.g. when passing through airport security.
I'll make up my mind soon.
I'm still very interested to hear more comments from users with experiences.
I used my phone without screen protector for one week after I had bought it. I must mention that I was kinda a cautious and never put coins, keys and mobile to the same pocket. I haven't had any single scratch.
I use a silicon case and plus a hard plastic pouch case when I'm carrying it on my pocket. Not even a single scratch

yeah that was silly of me.. putting the phone in the pocket with coins.. I was rushing with my hand fulls with stuffs..
but the wierd thing was.. I had my HTC Legend once..(Gorilla glass and no Screen Protector) and my Legend did not have any scratches at all for few months..
my bro also using his Galaxy S for a year without any scratches. He does put his phone anywhere though..
still.. Gorilla Glass "a bit" better than normal scratch resistant glass..

I think it would be a bad decision to choose the LG 2X.
About the screen of SGR... I don't have any scratches yet and don't read in other forums that people complain of this issue.
You can find lots of people with Gorilla Glass phones who have scratches and break completely in a normal drop from the hands.
I would buy the SGR definetely.
I'm a user of sgr for about a month now.I use silicon case at home and stock leather case when going out for showing of the beauty of sgr.

And...? Have you got any scratches or not?
Me and my wife using it heavily but carry it inside the original pouch or my wife in S2 pouch which completely protects the phone when kept inside a women's purse!
I hate using screen protector and not even using a case, still the phone is entirely scratch-less all around (not just the screen). If you are reasonably careful, I am sure it can last like my S1 or S2 which are scratch-less forever.
the screen is very good with scratch
i dropped it from waist height on the concrete and nothing happend to the screen - i use screen protector though.
i'm starting to doubt they tricked us - that R actually has a gorilla glass
Samsung has already tricked for UTG feature...
Also there can be hidden NFC, MHL output...and now gorrilla....
i cant digest it...!!

But wait, how come ur getting a Galaxy R now?? I was under the impression that SGR was permanently discontinued! U better check the phone and its contents carefully before using it dude.

Uh, dude the OP is from February.
I have CGG on my moto xt720 and i have had few scratches when kept in pocket with keybunch and coins..!! That was after 1-2 months. Then i realised i should always put a screen guard (not the privacy guard which interferes the touch sensitivity) on any smartphone whatsoever..!
Now, on the day i bought my SGR, i put a screen guard and with a fake capdase back cover, its super safe and no visible scratches .. even after 5 months..

I use a screen protector since the first day, and when the protector is scratched, I only have to replace this, another thing is that with time, screen protector makes work bad the screen, it turns crazy. Then, I must replace the protector.
Has everyone seen this new wave of screen protectors that claim to be impact resistant?
Several companies popped up in the last few months marketing a "brand new," "revolutionary" screen protector to absorb impacts. The thing that makes me curious is that all of these products seem remarkably similar. They all have a hard impact dispersing outer layer and a couple soft impact absorbing layers.
One of the companies, Evolutivelabs, is on Kickstarter and claims to be started by a couple college kids, but I suspect they're all the same product and being sold by multiple resellers because they all claim to offer 5x increased impact protection over plain Gorilla Glass.
Similar products are Armor Guard, Buff Armor, and Tech 21's Impact Shield.
Does anyone know anything about these products?
Links??
This is it, i think.

You did notice that the phone was only propped up with not much holding it? That will reduce the overall impact because there is nothing to stop it from flying back. That probably reduced the chance of the screen shattering?

I actually created a thread asking to see if anyone had used the brand and all I got was replies about getting glass protectors instead... So I guess not. I've gone without a protector since having gorilla glass on my phones, but with the protectors listed here, I am reconsidering.
I currently have a Crystal Clear Spigen on mine for around two weeks and already it's scratched pretty badly. I've heard that it scratches pretty easily but it's ridiculous that it has this many from just being in my pocket. If these protectors really do what they say they do I would be interested. I'm kind of skeptical of buying expensive protectors though due to reports that the expensive glass protectors scratch easily too...
Evolutive Labs one seems pretty impressive, but as far as I can see they don't have S4 screen protectors yet.

Maybe it's my inexperience with guns, but what hits the phone looks like steel balls from a scattershot and not a regular bullet. Also the fact that there is multiple impacts would lead me to believe that this is probably very carefully staged.

I found the original blog post which brought ClearPlex to my attention (watch as a link from some other blog I normally read) showing the S4 being shot from a "drone"...
http://www.phonearena.com/
Same gun, but what is more(?) interesting is the description of the gun in the article. The gun can use a normal .45-caliber round but also a .410 shotshell (which is basically the same as shotgun shell with a load of pelts). So yeah the it won't stop a bullet, but it will stop high speed small metal objects. There are other videos where they actually shot an iPhone with a regular shotgun which, of course, had the same results. Still pretty impressive.
I don't believe that gun stuff...

Yeah it is a stunt... It's probably equivalent to hitting the screen with a hammer, pretty unbelievable I do believe the stunts are probably real (IE not a fake phone).
I stumbled into this forum yesterday, by searching for accessories for my Essential Phone PH-1. In theory, this phone is perfect! Tough, can withstand a 5’ drop without a case, and no more taking off your gloves in the dead of winter to swipe, or dial.
However, like I said, in theory, it is the perfect phone. In the real world, not so much! My 25-day-old PH-1, hit the pavement twice in the last four days. First, it fell as I was pulling it from my pocket. It landed on its top right edge, breaking the Gorilla Glass 5 cover on that corner. After hitting the pavement on its top right corner, it flipped over, and landed on its back. The back of the PH-1 sustained no damage, not even a scratch.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=14543&pictureid=56462
The second drop, had my PH-1 hitting a hard-tiled floor from off a desk, a drop distance of 3’. This drop killed the supposed Gorilla Glass 5 cover of my PH-1.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/album.php?albumid=14543&pictureid=56463
Gorilla Glass 5 according to Corning, can withstand a 1.6 meter drop. That is a height of 5’ onto surfaces like brick, concrete, or asphalt. Corning made a video of the drop testing…
https://www.corning.com/gorillaglas...illa-glass-5-taking-tough-to-new-heights.html
My shorter than spec drops, set me back $699.99 which made me both mad, and curious. A little research revealed that Corning, has two lists on their website which, show all the smartphone manufacturers licensed to use Corning Gorilla Glass, and Essential, is not on either list. See for yourselves… Click the first link below, uncheck all devices except for smartphones. Then click on the manufacturer’s name in the list which, opens a page and tells you the phone by model, and the Gorilla Glass version the phone uses. The second link is Corning’s full list of licensed products licensed to use Gorilla Glass.
1. https://www.corning.com/gorillaglass/worldwide/en/products-with-gorilla.html
2. https://www.corning.com/gorillaglass/worldwide/en/full-product-list.html
Call me crazy, but this gets worse. Now, I understand this sounds like straight sour grapes, and it very well maybe. However, the following legal disclaimer comes directly from Corning’s website;
“Corning® Gorilla® Glass is used in the following mobile smartphones, tablets, slates, notebooks, wearables and tablets. The devices have been verified by the manufacturer and Corning as using Corning® Gorilla® Glass. The manufacturers and devices detailed are the only manufacturers authorized to use the Corning® Gorilla® Glass trademark in their device promotions. Select device manufacturers have not been willing to provide Gorilla Glass model verification. In those cases, please ask the manufacturer directly or contact Corning here and we will do our best to help you.”
So naturally, I clicked the “here” link, Outlook opened, and I sent an email asking Corning if the omission of Essential Phone was an error, and could they confirm the Essential PH-1 uses Gorilla Glass 5? The response was mind blowing!

Because of non-disclosure clauses in some of our customer contracts, we cannot identify all the devices that feature Corning® Gorilla® Glass, so we encourage you to contact the manufacturer of your device.
Regards,
The Gorilla Glass Team?
Non-disclosure agreements, really? That makes no sense seeing that Essential is advertising Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 publicly under “specifications”, as the cover of the Essential Phone PH-1. https://www.essential.com/#specifications . At that point, it is no longer a contracted secret! Of course, Essential’s response is; “yes, the PH-1 has Gorilla Glass 5, but they can still break.”
I purchased another phone with Gorilla Glass 5 for my wife, and yes, it is on Corning’s list of approved manufacturers. I will not say the manufacturer or the model because, I am not selling anything here. However, this phone, fell out of my wife’s coat pocket, bounced down some granite steps elevated about 6’, and survived without a scratch, or a glass break.
And to go from bad to worse, the Essential Phone PH-1 now costs $499.00 as of 10/22/2017, according to Essential Products, Inc. For those of you who did not know, you should check to see if you are under the requirement for a price match refund. $200, is $200!
If I knew a lab that could definitively say that my PH-1 broken Gorilla Glass, is in fact, Gorilla Glass 5, that would make me feel a bit better. Writing contracts and being in business since before I could work legally, has made me a legitimate skeptic, and not at all surprised at what some companies are willing to implement in the name of more profit. Anyway, I just thought people who own the Essential PH-1 should be aware, “It needs a case!”
It is sour grapes.
Corning's response is a blanket statement, not that Essential has an NDA specifically. They probably haven't updated the list in a while or completely. Companies have more important things to worry about. They told you to take Essential's word for it by asking them the manufacturer directly.
Plus there's speculation that the harder materials used on essential make the glass less durable. When an impact happens (to anything), rigid structures offer no shock absorption. Titanium and ceramic are very rigid. Plastic offers more flexibility to absorb the impact. Essential tried to combat this with the thin plastic molding around the screen but clearly it's not enough.
It's possible that Essential speced out a different version standard gorrila glass 5, and why it's not on that specific list.
This is Corning's news release stating the Essential Phone is using their Gorilla Glass 5.
https://www.corning.com/worldwide/e...-for-essential-products-first-smartphone.html
.
do you really think that in the lawsuit era we are living Essential would take the risk of advertising a Corning product without really using it?? If that was the case Corning should have started legal actions months ago.
Just because its Gorilla Glass does not mean its indestructable. I've seen photos or real life broken phones of all different brands that use Corning's glasses.
You can look at the product data sheet for more info: https://www.corning.com/content/dam...ets/Corning_Gorilla_Glass_5_PI_Sheet_RevB.pdf
Note: most of the data is normalized so its hard to get real-world data off of it.
additional info: http://www.matweb.com/search/DataSheet.aspx?MatGUID=c9239142e3514585a5809a15034e1d7f
The data sheets show actually quite good modulus and hardness values. But again, its not indestructable. It's very comparable to aluminum properties.

Correct. Normal variance in manufacturing means not all panes of Gorilla Glass are equal.
The phone was in unknown condition, because it had been used for anywhere from 1-4 weeks. Possible there could have been unnoticed damage to the glass or phone frame (for example, a tiny chip in the glass or small hairline crack) that caused it to break more easily on the first drop.
Well this is the dumbest thing I've read today.
"I dropped my phone and it broke so it must not be Gorilla Glass."
Lol.. this is why i always but a case and screen protectors on my phones.. still rocking a nexus 6 that gets dropped twice a day... Protection is a must

That makes some sense. I have a 2 yr old. But he's well behaved enough to be careful with the electronics. So not much firsthand experience with daily drops.

here is an interesting video that speaks to this. Looks like the ceramic back is almost indestructible, while the front was the first that shattered.
I'd agree with the comments that due to the high modulus of the other materials used, the glass is without much dampening surrounding material (even the plastic is very hard)and energy is transferred easily into the glass.
I've been reading all the reviews of the Honor View 10 that I can find and, unfortunately, all reviewers are indicating that Huawei has not used Gorilla Glass on it's most expensive Honor model. This doesn't make sense and is a very big CON against buying the phone for me. So far, most reviewers aren't saying anything nice about low light photography. Looks like the Leica lenses on the Mate 10 Pro may boost that phone's good low light camera performance, not NPU.
no, it does not have it,Honor has its own scratch-resistant glass.

Has Huawei started using Soda Lime glass with the Honor View 10 and 7X? Comparing Huawei Honor specs on recent Honor phones (8, 9, 7, 6x, 5) the company specified that Gorilla Glass was used. https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei-phones-58.php
My understanding is that Gorilla Glass, also known as AAS glass, is more porous and that its hardening process goes deeper, making it more resistent to scratches. This is a step backwards in build quality, IMHO.
Well, this is disappointing news. I know some sacrifices have to be made for the price point but this shouldn't have been one to the extent of no Gorilla Glass. They could have used an older version.
I read in Gsm arena Page the 7x use Gorilla Glass older Version.

I'm not so certain the 7x uses Gorilla Glass, there's no mention of it as a feature on Amazon's US website and one of the phone feature sites I was looking at only rated the screen's hardness at Mohns 4--Gorilla Glass is rated at 6.5.

The response Huawei provided doesn't give any indication of protection without a Mohns or Vicks hardness rating. There are many companies marketing glass for screens based on aluminosilicate glass (Gorilla Glass is aluminosilicate glass). The real issue is chemical composition since they all must vary to avoid patent infringement.
I do not care so much I watch my cell phones and use a foil
Well, correct me if I am wrong!
Gorilla Glass is the "trademark" name given by Corning company. Same like people mistakenly use Xerox for Photocopy. isn't it?
Hence, it's useless to argue if Honor is using Gorilla or any other trademarked glass. What matters is the screen type.

As per this post, Honor is using Alluminocsilicate glass which indeed what Gorilla Glass is made up of. So I guess this helps!

Yes that's completely right.
Both GG and asahi (jap brand) are using the same type of glass.. There should be barely, if at all, any difference between the two in terms of hardness (scratch resistance)..
Here's some more info (thread is from 2016 but should still be relevant).

When I reach to honor support, they have responded me with below information. But i never understand what it is. May be someone can
It has The AI2O3 content of alkali aluminosilicate glasses is typically 10-25% and the alkali content over 10%. The high alkali content prepares the glass for ion exchange with bigger alkali ions in order to improve the surface compressive strengt
Its act as a gauge glass due to high operating temperature and good thermal shock properties. For these reasons it can operate at temperature levels above those of borosilicate
According to the Cosmetic Database, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate is approved by the CIR Expert Panel, but only in limited concentrations. The CIR's concern stems from the known risk of any ingredient that contains aluminum compounds, which are known neurotoxins.

Well, now I see why they are silent about the screen. There's a huge difference in the manufacturing process employed by Corning for Gorilla Glass and Asahai for its Dragontail Glass and Corning's process makes Gorilla Glass more than scratch resistant but improves drop performance, too, acheiving a higher Vicks hardness rating than Asahai's Dragonglass. Corning uses an ion exchange method; Ashai uses a float method. http://www.differencebetween.info/difference-between-gorilla-glass-and-dragontrail-glass

It'd be easier to see the difference if someone like Zack (jerryrigeverthing) takes a go at it..
I've seen posts where they talk about the hardness in mohs scale where both gg and dt are between 6-7.. In JRE vids, most phones with GG start to scratch at 6 and have deeper scratches at 7 using his mohs pick..
I'm not sure what sources they've used to get the hardness in mohs though so I didn't link those posts..

Mohs was developed in the 19th century and can only be used to test minerals because it relies on using minerals known to be stronger to scratch a weaker one; Mohs can't be used for metals. https://www.gordonengland.co.uk/hardness/mohs.htm In a Vicks or "Vickers" test, a diamond (pyramid-shaped) mounted in a block is pressed in to the object being tested at 1-100 kgf for 10-15 seconds. https://www.gordonengland.co.uk/hardness/vickers.htm The Vicks test is preferred by many materials engineers.

I never plan on abusing it like that, but in case you're wondering it's quite tough!
Honestly I don't care if you have a dome and it's the best ever. This is my experience with the dome. Sum it up. Low quality trash. Brand New sealed ordered from Whitestone out of the box it had a pretty deep scrach in it. And for how much junk Zagg is at least there product does not come out of the box scrached. Attached is an image under magnification.
Check out the glass before you install and before you remove your current protector. You are not buying quality here. I had high expectations for this but after this I'll just go back to brands that preform simple steps in quality control.
Lots of people are pleased. I for one say a scratch out of the box of a new product at this price point is 100% un acceptable. And this is the only brand that I seen this in. In my experience this is the lowest quality glass out for the note 9. Yeah Zagg has some poor design choices like edge adhesive and on the elite the black borders. But the glass is flawless and clear. Unlike this Whitestone.
If you can't spot a scratch that deep I now question the quality of the optical adhesive they use. I work in the optoelectronics industry. I use optical adhesive pretty often so I'm going to check out the other tube and see how it stacks up against the stuff I use.
Full review will cover the unboxing, install as well as that moment that I discover that scrach with my reaction lol. Also high res images of the scratch along with precise mesurements of it. And why I have it at work I'll be going more into the glass using some of the equipment we have here.
If the dome you got is flawless that's great. I'm happy for you. However that's not my experience with this product. my review is a sample size of 1. There are way they could of protected the glass like other manufacturer's do but they cut that corner and lowered product quality to keep cost down. After all the reviews I bought with confidence and received a damaged product. I have contacted Whitestone about this but I will say that Zagg offered to send out a elite free to replace the one I took off and said that I should not be punished for buying into the hype and the note 9 deserves a quality product to protect the best display on a smartphone. That says alot about Zagg by eliminating the shipping. We will see how Whitestone handles this. If they send out a replacement that is a representation of what others have prazed I would be more then happy. But I think they are going to try and play the pay to ship that back, then pay for shipping on another product so we can ring even more money out of you. But sorry guys. You burned me one time. You won't burn me again.
Again. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue. As far as I know this is a single case. There may be more who knows but I'll be 100% honest in this. The picture was taken under magnification to show it's not just a scratch in the oleophobic coating. From a picture you can't feel the scratch catch your finger nail when you rub it. If Whitestone decides to take care of this issue I will update this post with how they handled it and there response. Until then for all those who are ocd about there displays. This is what a scratch looks like.
Update
Whitestone is in communication on how to make this right. I have discovered another issue. This is with the oleophobic coating. One spot has some heat damage. I sent them this picture to see how this could happen in there process.
Working in the optoelectronics industry for years. I look forward to offering them some input on how to keep things like these from hurting there brand to new potential customers. First product from them and as of right now the last. I pay for the premium product I demand a premium product. I will keep this update with there solution on this matter and what they think can cause the issues.
The scratch I believe was cased when after inspection when placed in the bag. The bag is not optics quality and being so is may contain debris. Example out air cans we use are not normal dust cans. They are filtered to sub micron purity. There's quality and then optical quality. When placed in the bag the scratch was formed. Protective film would ensure that never happens or optical quality bags. Corner was cut and the product suffered. That's a fact. As for the oleophobic coating. I would need more info on there production line. I have a theory of what could cause that. I have seen similar issues with microscope optical coatings on production equipment.
So far they have replied quickly and seem eager to make things right and assure me that the product meets there quality standards.
I think when finished I will have the most in depth review of this. Since I had to take it to work for pictures I was able to test the included adhesive, cure light optical power and make exact cure times required for a full proper cure. Mesure the thickness of the adhesive layer under the glass and other stuff. It's probably going to be about a 30-45min video I will post on YouTube. If interested I am willing to do the same for other protectors if there is interest. Since most reviews are just stick it on and it fits so it must be the best. We can dive into things a bit more and actually look at the product.
Update.
Told to use the warranty form online. Pictures were sent to there hq in Korea. They made a coupon code that will wave the shipping. Excellent support.

Mine was scratched pretty deeply as well out of the box. I just don't feel like going through the installation process again, so I guess I'll just keep it as long as I can without it driving me crazy.
I advise everyone to inspect the glass of the protector before installing.

I'm not mad about the scratch. Gave me content and for the first time ever the dome is getting looked at. And if we cannot get crazy I can fire up the Scanning electron microscope and we can dive into it lol.
Just for reference. Was your scratch 1/4 inch under the bixby button and to the right 1/4 inch going vertically?

Yeah I'll get see I day or two and I'll start a thread for it.
My experience from the Dome Glass... I ordered the 2 Pack from Amazon, I got the package a little bit wet from the LOCA glue. I successfully installed the glass on my N9, but it had a small scratch on it that I noticed after I turned on the UV light to dry the glue. After about one week little cracks appeared in the glue I contact Amazon and they replaced it (had to sent it back). Now I have the new one on my screen for 3 weeks and everything is good. I hope it will stay that way.
When it works it's the best screen protector I have ever had (and I had them all).

There support was fast. From what I seen I rate this a 3 on a scale to 5. The oleophobic coating is absolutely trash. But we'll see how it is on the replacement since I know there is a defect in this units coating. I'll give my final opinion on it when the replacement comes in and will compare the quality of the glass and coating to some other brands.
