I have question... - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I have a question. In 4 months my guarantee for my S7 Edge ends ... The phone is 3 years old, so it is not known when some parts will break down ... Therefore, the question is how to spoil the phone so that they can replace it with a new one. Thank you for every help.
If it's important, phone is unmodded KNOX 0x0
PS. Moralizers can go to church...

XDA is not the place for this kind of question, XDA does not approve of shady practices such as what you are asking. What you are asking is considered fraud, a form of stealing, we, the XDA members, can't(and won't) help with that, it is against the XDA rules.
Demoralizers should go somewhere else besides XDA to find assistance with their fraudulent practices.

[Q] Still hoping for an IMEI fix

Hi All,
I was one of the unlucky ones that lost my IMEI recently due to corrupt efs folder without any backup after flashing a ROM. My phone still works fine but I'm concerned about the default IMEI being blocked and any other effects of losing the files in the efs folder.
I had my phone imported from the US by a friend so returning it or sending to a Samsung service center is not an option because there are none that deal with phones in my country.
As a non Linux user and non-developer I have tried everything within my knowledge and spent hours searching the Internet to no avail. To resolve this issue we really need the help of an experienced developer.
So my questions is:
Is anyone still working on a solution? I'm sure there are still quite a few people that would really appreciate your help.
Thanks!
Only samsung have a box to generate a correct efs folder... Stop looking for a solution, not exist. There are people working for fix in a Galaxy S for a year ago and have no solution
Sorry but this is the reality (And I'm in the same situation than you, I was bought my Nexus the past december in US and I live in spain...)
Enjoy your phone while works... I will do
Try sending it to Samsung for warranty repair (restore using Odin first though or they might not work on your modified device).
Won't work...in order to fix this issue, I even made some friends with the guys in Samsung Service Center here in China. They only have Odin for each device...If I were an American, maybe things could be easier. As far as I heard, the Riff Box cannot even fix this.

i still hope that in the development section are only dev posts! :O
There is a reason we have rules on this forum...
Restoring an IMEI is illegal in some countries, changing it in most, that's why there's no real solution for this problem.

Yes, in some countries it is. Just not sure if that includes Austria.

Questions belong in Q&A. Thread closed.
Also, talk of IMEI hacking is not allowed here. While this particular case isn't agaisnt the law, the solution, if one existed, would allow others to break the law.

Wind Users Warning

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give my fellow Wind users a warning: Wind has changed their warranty policies.
Instead of doing a straight exchange they now require $150 deposit, and a $10+tax fee for using their loaner phone. I've had enough of their antics, and am in touch with the loyalty department after paying $161.30 just to send my phone in for repairs.
Basically what happened is my phone shutoff while I was using the flashlight, and wouldn't turn back on. I tried charging, tried a different battery, tried putting it into recovery, etc. Now that I look back the only thing I didn't try was apx mode. Funny thing was, when I was in the store waiting to get the loaner phone, a lady brought in the exact same phone with calling issues. Everyone who has this phone hates it.
Anyways, reason for my post wasn't to get help fixing it, it was to warn you guys of the new crappy policies in place.
If they can't hook me up with an upgrade for a newer phone, then I'm tempted to pay off my tab and leave wind for mobilicity, at least then I wouldn't have to deal with getting crappy phones like this in the future. Wind (and T-Mobile for that matter) should have recalled all these phones when they realized that it was a P.O.S for lack of a better word. It hasn't even been a year and the phone has broken twice on me.
My words of wisdom was to tell you guys to pawn your phones off or try and trade for an amaze 4g or something before yours breaks (since it's probably inevitable) and you're stuck paying these bogus warranty fees. I'll update the thread once the loyalty department gets back to me this weekend.
Ontop of this as of April 1st of 2012 they charge 10$ for the unlock codes. I just called to get it unlocked and the representative claimed i had to be with them for "6" months not the usual 3 and its 10$ to unlock the phone.
If there has been a change in policy, does that mean you can get out of your contracts?

Just a little comment on the issue with your phone. I think your motherboard is fried . This is my second LG phone, and my first phone (P500) had an issue and wouldn't turn on, I sent it for repair and they told me the motherboard was dead.
So I'm guessing that's what happened with yours. This will be my last LG phone, probably forever. Would rather have an iphone, and I HATE apple products, than an LG phone.

See if you can find some information regarding the wintab contracts. considering its a "contract" that you sign for the company somehow i dont think its legal for them to enforce that upon the anyone who signed on before the date of change. For the others there is no contract as is pay as you go.

Unfortunately they don't do contracts. But I do have a WindTab which means I owe a certain amount of money on the phone. Maybe I can get out of paying it by saying their policy breached my agreement. I'll have to review my agreement!

I 100% agree with you. Last LG phone I ever get. I was going to buy an LG TV this week as well, but I feel like a dynex would be more reliable at this point!
Thanks guys!
Funny thing is I have 2 720p tvs, one is a dynex and one is an LG lol. The dynex tv is older and was more expensive at the time, but they both work great. The LG tv input ports are arranged better though and are easier to get to.
Sorry to hear about your issues, but please note that this is off-topic! Complaints about your provider have nothing to do with development. (As an aside, I'd also disagree with your assertion that "everyone" is unhappy with the phone. We have two G2x phones on Wind and really enjoy both the device and the service.)

If wind does not have any "contracts" whats stopping people from canceling the service and not paying off the windtab.

? if exchanging a G2X is not relevant here then the thread can be deleted/locked. Its a "General" section and not a development section. yes its related to the provider being ass within the use of a "G2X" warning others of such issues.

That's why I posted in the general section Mr. Moderator. Thanks for the heads up there. It's also called an exaggeration, most people on here are unhappy with these phones, and while I was in the store, another lady brought one in and she's had hers repaired 3 times already. I don't know what your problem is.

That's true, when looking through my "agreement" it says they must give me 30 days prior notice to any changes that are affecting my terms of agreement. I'm going to tell them that I don't agree with the warranty policy changes and I'm either accepting a replacement (different phone) or I'm leaving and filing a small claims. I'm already in the process of litigations with another cell phone provider, don't really want to disclose too much but they can be a real pain in the ass.
could you pm me the agreement you signed i assume it would be the same "blank out any personal information" i cant seem to find mine atm. need to dgi through a pile of papers.

"G2x general discussion" is not the same as "Complaints about my cellular provider". The OP even made a point of stating that the post "wasn't to get help fixing it, it was to warn you guys of the new crappy policies in place" at his provider. It's not a big deal, but there are already plenty of other sites to gripe about service issues.

[KNOX] Finally a fix! Is this true!?

Apparently the new version of Easy Jtag will allow KNOX to be completely reset by factory formatting the emmc and writing an old bootloader back onto the device. I realise the question in the source was aimed at the S4 by the way...
Has anyone tried?

You need to hardwire the EMMC to reset KNOX.
I wouldn't recommend it! :good:
If that was the case, wouldn't that mean knox flag is not e-fuse? I don't think it's that complicated, but I don't see Note3 listed as supported device yet, maybe we should just wait and see what comes out of it. They have NYC number listed for a dealer, it could be the fix people are looking for. Few handy members could offer service for others for a small fee and there is already over $3000 bounty, so it could be an option in the future.
I guess there are owners like me who haven't formally pledged money for a solution but who would happily pay for a known working solution

Just as I thought. I also have Note 2 since 2012 eventually upgraded to 4.3 and there is KNOX ! Note 2 was never meant to have Knox, it is there because I voluntarily upgraded it to 4.3.

[Info]Reset knox possible

Hello to all!
Interested in the fact of rooter my Galaxy notes 3 but worried of losing the guarantee I have just contacted 2 PSM agencies of Lyon (France) to know if it would repair my note 3 if necessary in spite of the fact that the knox is 0x1.
The answer was without ambiguity (especially as he had just had this day an e-mail of Samsung their giving the instructions for the case of a root note 3)
Indeed PSM the possibility of putting back the knox in 0x0 and then of making the guarantee of play our telephone (method supplied by samsung he read me the whole e-mail but was not willing to tell me how he could make this miracle)
The only factor which it is necessary to take into account for this reset is the 65€ sum chargeable to the customer.
Sorry for my english
This would be great if its for all of Europe including the UK. I will ring them tomorrow and confirm. I honestly wouldn't mind rooting if it only cost me around £60 to reset it back.

It is few to bode well all this, the method will eventually be well leaked

I'm not disagreeing with your point of "Is there truth to the reset of KNOX" :good:
I just disagreed cheekily with the way you put it across, it's all good though
I'm trying to figure what are u guys talking about and if I'm not mistaken you're still wondering if Knox can be reset?
It was reported by quiet few users already that Samsung has the capability of resetting Knox and I thought it was already established Knox flag doesn't use e-fuse and can be reset. Now, I can't vouch for this particular service center, but if they can get tools from Samsung, they should be able to reset the flag. I also don't think this is worth the price unless the phone is already seriously broken and need to be send for service to Samsung center already known for refusing repairs with the flag tripped, or Knox software needs to be used. The chances for the phone breaking down before one yr warranty expires are not that huge and even if it breaks, it could go dead to the point flag can't be checked anyway. It would probably be better to get outside insurance, that would cover accidental damage and theft as well, if available, for not much more cash. And yeah, I still think/hope some way of resetting flag will be leaked.
I'm Just a french guy so post in english is not easy for me...
It's was just an information for people search solution for reset knox. Psm says that they could be with the approve of samsung and Psm is a great sav store. Thats all, i've nothing tout sell. There is no interest tout lie about this suggest so i just want to share this info.

Yes, the fuse is very likely still involved but it is probably not only the fuse.
Well, the only way knox is not hackable is if it a hardware fuse without any of the pins exposed externally. If the fuse has pins on the chip package, then fooling knox will be as easy as soldering a bridge between the two pins.
I already tripped my knox, will be a good thing if there is a fix for it, but I won't be holding by breath..

When do you think Root will come out?

When do you guys think a root will come out for the galaxy 5? Its been a long time.
To be honest man. I don't think we'll ever get root for this one. It is frustrating to know that the S7 and the almost identical S6 got root but we are sh!t out of luck with the Note5. Do yourself a favor and get the T-Mobile variant so you can enjoy your phone's full potential.

When I was working on root no one wanted to help me so I just worked on it myself and I refuse to give out any information about it because of 1, no one cared to help 2, I spent months working on it alone and broke 3 phones which isn't cheap and 3, the bounty they have out isn't worth nothing to me.

I have no idea at this point because the people who did pledge some money aren't interested in it no more because most of them went and got different phones already so there is no point anymore.

It's not that money rules all (it usually does in most cases so you're correct), it's the simple fact that when you lose 3, 4, 5 phones trying to get the community what it wants, do you think it would be fair to the Dev that spent a lot of time and money to get what a lot of people want and not get anything back in return for everything? The reason I said the bounty is worth nothing to me is because I already spent way over that amount and people are backing out of it and taking their pledged amount back so it's just not worth nothing.

THREAD MOVED
At this point, Samsung could cut a lot of blood loss from their Note 7 fiasco and enable easy root for all current unrootable devices and see some surge in interest and competent development. This would be a betterment to everyone, but the kickbacks from the useless preinstalled apps is probably more important than customer satisfaction and loyalty. Oh well.
Aw man you quit working on it and you broke several phones. That sucks. Well my cousin was wanting root. I just wonder what makes finding the root so hard. I'm learning HTML and CSS and soon afterwards javascript and I'm telling you its tough.. I couldn't imagine a coding language like java which im assuiming is what andriod is programmed in I think.
