Wind Users Warning - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give my fellow Wind users a warning: Wind has changed their warranty policies.
Instead of doing a straight exchange they now require $150 deposit, and a $10+tax fee for using their loaner phone. I've had enough of their antics, and am in touch with the loyalty department after paying $161.30 just to send my phone in for repairs.
Basically what happened is my phone shutoff while I was using the flashlight, and wouldn't turn back on. I tried charging, tried a different battery, tried putting it into recovery, etc. Now that I look back the only thing I didn't try was apx mode. Funny thing was, when I was in the store waiting to get the loaner phone, a lady brought in the exact same phone with calling issues. Everyone who has this phone hates it.
Anyways, reason for my post wasn't to get help fixing it, it was to warn you guys of the new crappy policies in place.
If they can't hook me up with an upgrade for a newer phone, then I'm tempted to pay off my tab and leave wind for mobilicity, at least then I wouldn't have to deal with getting crappy phones like this in the future. Wind (and T-Mobile for that matter) should have recalled all these phones when they realized that it was a P.O.S for lack of a better word. It hasn't even been a year and the phone has broken twice on me.
My words of wisdom was to tell you guys to pawn your phones off or try and trade for an amaze 4g or something before yours breaks (since it's probably inevitable) and you're stuck paying these bogus warranty fees. I'll update the thread once the loyalty department gets back to me this weekend.

Ontop of this as of April 1st of 2012 they charge 10$ for the unlock codes. I just called to get it unlocked and the representative claimed i had to be with them for "6" months not the usual 3 and its 10$ to unlock the phone.

If there has been a change in policy, does that mean you can get out of your contracts?

Just a little comment on the issue with your phone. I think your motherboard is fried . This is my second LG phone, and my first phone (P500) had an issue and wouldn't turn on, I sent it for repair and they told me the motherboard was dead.
So I'm guessing that's what happened with yours. This will be my last LG phone, probably forever. Would rather have an iphone, and I HATE apple products, than an LG phone.

See if you can find some information regarding the wintab contracts. considering its a "contract" that you sign for the company somehow i dont think its legal for them to enforce that upon the anyone who signed on before the date of change. For the others there is no contract as is pay as you go.

Unfortunately they don't do contracts. But I do have a WindTab which means I owe a certain amount of money on the phone. Maybe I can get out of paying it by saying their policy breached my agreement. I'll have to review my agreement!

I 100% agree with you. Last LG phone I ever get. I was going to buy an LG TV this week as well, but I feel like a dynex would be more reliable at this point!
Thanks guys!

Funny thing is I have 2 720p tvs, one is a dynex and one is an LG lol. The dynex tv is older and was more expensive at the time, but they both work great. The LG tv input ports are arranged better though and are easier to get to.

Sorry to hear about your issues, but please note that this is off-topic! Complaints about your provider have nothing to do with development. (As an aside, I'd also disagree with your assertion that "everyone" is unhappy with the phone. We have two G2x phones on Wind and really enjoy both the device and the service.)

It might be against the rules to post twice in a row. Could you check and get back to us?

If wind does not have any "contracts" whats stopping people from canceling the service and not paying off the windtab.

? if exchanging a G2X is not relevant here then the thread can be deleted/locked. Its a "General" section and not a development section. yes its related to the provider being ass within the use of a "G2X" warning others of such issues.

That's why I posted in the general section Mr. Moderator. Thanks for the heads up there. It's also called an exaggeration, most people on here are unhappy with these phones, and while I was in the store, another lady brought one in and she's had hers repaired 3 times already. I don't know what your problem is.

That's true, when looking through my "agreement" it says they must give me 30 days prior notice to any changes that are affecting my terms of agreement. I'm going to tell them that I don't agree with the warranty policy changes and I'm either accepting a replacement (different phone) or I'm leaving and filing a small claims. I'm already in the process of litigations with another cell phone provider, don't really want to disclose too much but they can be a real pain in the ass.

could you pm me the agreement you signed i assume it would be the same "blank out any personal information" i cant seem to find mine atm. need to dgi through a pile of papers.

"G2x general discussion" is not the same as "Complaints about my cellular provider". The OP even made a point of stating that the post "wasn't to get help fixing it, it was to warn you guys of the new crappy policies in place" at his provider. It's not a big deal, but there are already plenty of other sites to gripe about service issues.

Dude I don't know what your issue is this is the general section like you noted which means for general discussion.... If this was in the Dev or themes and apps section then you would have a a point but you don't so move on and stop trolling this thread unless you have something of substance to add to the discussion

Got a GSII at 2 yr contract price

Just an FYI,
After some *****ing to retentions about the non-functionality of this phone, I managed to get a new phone at 2 yr contract price. I'm on my 3rd G2X and I have just about every problem imaginable - reboots, shutdowns, calls often don't work, data often doesn't work, etc. If you're frustrated with your G2X but don't want to shell out 600 bucks, it's worth a shot. I told them that the guy at my local tmobile store told me that I might as well stop switching out for replacements since "they're all like that." Basically just kept stressing that they sold me a broken phone, and I just wanted a working one. Good luck!
ooohhhwhhooooo good for you pal.
this is a g2x threat ''FYI''
i got my g2x since it release date and i never had problems. let see how your GS2 will work for ya. its still a samsuck
and i had several problems with the old galaxy s versions. and again samsuck never did nothing about it
I might give this a try... I'll get the GSII... Sell it, then buy another G2x.
Haha good idea. I was about to say how the g2x is better and they g2x does not like him.

I was just trying to help out...I figured some other people might be frustrated with their g2x's and would appreciate this option. If you are happy with yours, that's great - this thread (with a d) is not for you. I don't see how you can call Samsung out for not addressing problems when that is clearly the issue with LG here - with quality control if nothing else.

Yeah, I'm actually bummed I couldn't get a working g2x. The gsii seems way too big to me, and the build quality is pretty ****ty. But seeing that I had to get SOME other phone, it was the best option

I posted it here because I am coming from a g2x, and it was specifically my complaints about none of my g2xs working that allowed me to get a really early upgrade. Again, just trying to help. I know there are a lot of people who are frustrated with the g2x's unreliability.
Wow lots of hate for a company that gives phones to developers, hired Cyanogen, and garnered enough interest from Google to create the Nexus a second time. I loved my Nexus S.
I kinda liken the G2x to an AMG Mercedes. Sexy piece of metal and glass, a thrill when working correctly, but loses half its value when you drive off the lot.
I like keeping my phones for 6mo or so and reselling to subsidize the next phone. G2x depreciated faster than any other phone I've owned. Feel like kinda a chump for picking one up on 4/20. I could have waited 2 months and bought it $250 cheaper. Grrrr....

This wasn't a goodbye post, or a g2x-slamming post. I was simply letting people know that if they are frustrated with their g2x, there might be an option they weren't aware of. There was no jubilation or negative comments. Are people so insecure (about their cell phones of all things) that I can't even mention the name of another phone? As I said before, there are many pluses of my g2x - higher pixel density, better screen size, vanilla os, hdmi out, better build quality, etc. The one big minus is that it doesn't work a lot of the time, just like the previous g2x's I've had. If your phone works, then great. This post was not meant for you.

So I went to a few stores today that sells att phones. I asked everyone in all 5 of the stores about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, noone even knew about it as if it will be coming out 6 years from now -.- noone knew there was one even coming out let alone the name :/ it kind of makes me sad when the consumer knows more then the sales reps. They should train more in my opinion this was just my little experiance for the day just thought I'd share. Anyone else looking forward to the note lte for att?

Nobody in a provider store is going to have even a small clue about phones they don't already stock, this should not be a shock. And if you're on xda you're a bit above the typical consumer...
There is basically no benefit in knowing about a phone you don't stock yet from a sales perspective. You can't sell what you don't have.

In-store reps definitely don't know anything. Most reps aren't like us and simply don't care. I usually come across some reps who give out good information about upcoming devices. These reps are always over the phone as they have quick access to the database. Try calling about a general question, talk to them for a bit, and when you're about to end the conversation, pop the question.

Ive sold phones for five years in three locations. I can tell you most of us know about phones as soon as they are rumors. As someone said earlier if we don't sell it we really don't care. To be honest if someone asked me about the note I would kinda just try to end it fast unless we were doing pre orders as asking me about a phone I cant sell isn't making me commission. If it is slow though I will talk about announced upcoming phones for quite awhile. Also most consumers walk in and say i want android or iphone not asking specifics

That's understandable. Wouldn't it be better to actually care and inform a consumer of an upcoming device? By informing them of said device, they might wait for it and pay the $200 with the contract. I understand you want to make some money as well but I guess from a personal standpoint I would help the person that cares as much as I do.

I even tried bestbuy lol and the guys words were "our phone tech isn't here today he will be here tomorrow from 12-6" I live 40 mins away from anything so its not in my best choice to go back but anywho I go to the same att retailer when I buy my phones. They know me there and come at me quick because I don't just come in to buy a cheap pantech crossover I'm there with cash in hand and buy phones straight up xD so they are always willing to help. When I went in to buy my Sony xperia play 4g I handed her my iPhone to Bluetooth my contacts, she looked at my iPhone and her exact words were "what the F is this" it was running wp7 xD Haha but in all seriousness I think someone should be hired in the certain area. It'd be like hiring me to sell cars or ovens when I know nothing about them, I feel like they just hire anyone :/ I went to buy a computer once and the worker argued for 30 minutes that 512mb was a gigabyte :/ I shook my head and took my business elsewhere I just don't understand... sometimes I wish everyone cared about a phone as much as we do... instead of "as long as I can listen to music watch YouTube and look at porn, I don't care what it looks like or what it does" :'( I honestly just want to teach everyone for free so I don't feel so smart and dumb at the same time. anyone else feel that way?

I agree. I've perused tablets in Best Buy and after engaging the nearest 'team member' for less than 3 minutes, I realize that I know more than they do.
It's the same experience when going to the auto parts store. There are some people who can carry on informed conversation, but 90% are the type who watch fast & furious movies in awe, and know nothing about repair or maintenance or they can only look up part numbers.
Basically, lower your expectations.
This is why I get mad when I've tried many times to get a job in those kind of places to no avail because I don't seem to have any big time qualifications to my record yet if I go into any outlet store and begin talking about phones, the sales rep looks at me like I'm making up things or shocked I know anything.

I have had similar experience with applying for jobs at auto parts stores. The 'now hiring' sign is displayed for several months and the staff changes about every 3 weeks, but I never get called. For a while there was an older woman who not only knew nothing about cars but she also needed help to use the computer program to look up parts.
I finally realized that these people will work for less money than I will because I actually know what I am doing. It really is sad that people with any level of technical or mechanical ability don't actually work at the retail level because they can't get enough money.
And don't get me started on the people who work at Home Depot . .
I have no past work experiance. I'm 19 years old have been the "bad" kid because I used to be a "black magic" hacker I've gotten introuble from schools best buys and targets because of it but now I'm past all that I do phones tablets anything mobile. There is never a time when I'm in best buy that I'm back in the computer/phone area and usually an older citizen is talking to a sales Rep about which one is better and the sales Rep says well product A is $1299 with 4gb ram touchscreen is way better then product B $899 8gb ram and so on but they go by the price as the sales Rep was walking her to the register I kindly walked up and said "hello ma'am I noticed you were interested in two different so-so" the sales Rep called the manager and had me kicked out for costing him the sale xD but they wont hire me? I have long hair and look like a "druggie" I don't do drugs don't have tattoos or metal on my body but yet they hire people who are clueless

I don't mean to overstep the rules of polite conversation but you may wish to think about your image. It isn't fair that we judge based on looks, but it happens.
*Edit - When I say looks I also means assumptions that people will make of others based on their prejudices. -*End Edit
Most recently, I applied for a job repairing projectors. During the interview they kept asking me about how well I would transition to an office environment. Completely Ridiculous! I would be working in the workshop not the office and I happened to be better dressed than any of my interviewers.
Basically, some people cannot see past their little world or people they can understand.
Man Verizon store by me they don't know anything. And they are jerks as well. Went to upgrade my moms phone and said she wouldn't get unlimited data with her Droid 3 so I just bought it from newegg called up and boom she got her unlimited data. Never going back to that store again. Hate how now you have to bring phone to store to get replaced.

Finally HTC get the message

I think HTC are beginning to get worried about the negative press over the One series.
Had a call from HTC customer service today in response to a survey I filled in recently.
Basically I slated them and their response to my support call.
I asked them a specific question about their new Bluetooth audio dongle and they gave me some crap generic response about how not all phones have the same Bluetooth functionality (my request had nothing to do with phones merely the specification of the dongle).
Anyway I didn't pick up because the number was 'unknown' but they left a very detailed message and seemed very keen to get a resolution (apparently ;-)).
What do you reckon? Call back and hurl abuse???

I reckon this thread serves no purpose.
Your wondering whether to call back and give 'more abuse' , when they have phoned you directly to try to solve your issue.

What do you guys do for a living? No company intentionally does things that aren't in the best interest of their customers. Big multi-billion dollar (pound, euro) companies can't turn on a dime. At least in the U.S., my experience with HTC so far has been light years better than Samsung. The fact that HTC sent you a survey (which they pay for) means they do care about what their customers think. And I guarantee you whatever their response is it in no way has anything to do with the *****ing taking place on XDA.

Are you 12? First you complain that your issues weren’t properly addressed. Then, it appears HTC's trying to further assist you. And the first thing that came to your mind is "hurl abuse?"
You guys really need to get lives as making a piece of electronic kit the focal point of your existence is just plain scary.

threadstarter si trying to get the attention of HTC for what? the fact that they made the effort to call you back with regards to your survey means that they have good customer service. and you wanted to "hurl abuse?" imo HTC doesnt need customers like you.
If you got time, I'd call back and actually tell them what you didn't like and how they should've handled it.
The fact is that companies like HTC pay these survey companies to study these things, collect customer feedback so that later on HTC can process it and work on improving their image/products.
How efficient that is - that's another debate. But I really think you need to use this opportunity to make your voice heard.
At the very least, you'll feel vented =)

[Verizon] Samsung offers "hacker friendly" Galaxy S3 on Big Red

Three cheers for Samsung doing the right thing, about a month late.
A better choice would of been, a developer portal website, where we send you our IMEI, you mark our warranty as invalid should we brick our phone, and then give us a file to unlock our bootloader. I'd even pay a reasonable, less than $50 processing fee, for your effort.
Earlier on a conference call with Verizon and Samsung, the following happened.... ( For the Verizon and Samsung suits, the below is satire, if I got it right, it's a coincidence...)
Samsung: Verizon, we told you that you were going to piss off the tech influncers, they're going to badmouth the S3 on your network and people will consider other carriers. Your dumb ass move of locking the bootloader is now costing us support calls, as we try to explain your poor decision. The right thing to do, as we told you earlier was not to lock it.
Verizon: Heck no, we're not doing it. We don't want the warranty and support headaches, besides they're all just a bunch of hacker thieves who will destroy our network, break their phones and cry to us when they brick.
Samsung: Your dumb move is hurting our brand and your brand too. (Thinking: But you're too stupid to see it.) What if we made you a limited quantity of S3's of of the S3's on your network without locking the bootloader.did a developer phone. You could sell it to a limited customer base for a small up-charge and make everyone happy. This way you could limit the amount of so called "hacker thieves" while keeping the influncers happy and give us a consistent message where we don't have to lie.
Verizon: We're not selling it.
Samsung: You'd be able to make peace with the influencers, you know that group that is all excited about our products, and convinces their friends to get it on your network. They'd love you for it.
Verizon: We're too big to have a different process for the phone same phone. We'd have mass confusion everywhere, support, service, retail and we'd loose money on it.
Samsung: You need to do something about this. It's only going to get nastier as you deliver more phones. All the other carriers didn't lock, and you simply look stupid for doing it. Your confusing message sounds like paranoia mixed with PR lies. Nobody is believing you, and you make us look bad.
Verizon: We're big enough. We don't care. Let them whine, they'll quiet down in a while.
Samsung: We'll if you're not going to do anything at least let us do something. Let us build a model with an IMEI which you'll allow on your network, which doesn't have a locked bootloader. We'll sell it, support it, and handle warranty. We'll call it a developer phone.
Verizon: Grumble Grumble.... Fine. This issue is over and the last we'll talk about it. Goodbye. Click. Those Samsung guys need to grow a pair. <Laughter>
Samsung: What a bunch of morons in suits.
Well this is good for those who want to install roms and what not. It sucks for those who are trying to get the Sgs3 as an upgrade on Verizon.
this is awesome thanks! I woulda never though samsung would do this.
They also do not say if you are paying $599 to get the 16gb version or 32gb.
so its essentially the sprint version except it works on Verizon.

So are there actual hardware differences in the Version S3 and the Developers version or is it just in the firmware ??

Taxing Developers?
So now verizon and samsung decide to tax us for being developers? No one needs to buy this. Kexec the verizon version untill we can crack the bootloader!

At this point i doubt many people will be purchasing this phone. Had samsung released it a few weeks ago then i bet more people would have bought it, but they've waited too long now.

yep is gonna be a failure. And the dev community is gonna be non existent cause no one will have it. All that is gonna be good for is hopefully we can steal their bootloader and such.

if the bootloader on the dev phone is usable on the locked handsets...thus unlocking them....then the development for this phone will become bigger than ever....
I plan on buying one when it is released in spite of Verizon.

I hope to hell it's as easy as you guys are thinking it will be. Unfortunately I would NOT count on it.
haha that would be hilarious and so awesome at the same time if the whole unlocked bootloader stock image could just be flashed in odin to bypass everything else. I was sayin the devs in charge of the $3k in donations to the bounty for unlocked bootloader should just offer that money to somebody at Verizon...like somebody should email one of the execs, not CEO, but a little lower, execs are ALWAYS lookin to make some extra bucks. Or at Samsung, I'm sure there's some software that can unlock that they possess. I came from the OG and have only this for like 4 days, and I'm extremely missing the freedom I had. It's like moving to North Korea or Cuba, naw more like North Korea
^^you had me laughing at that!

We can use it to point out to the fcc that vzw's excuse for locking the bootloader on a block c device is bull crap.
They really are trying to tax us now. This prooves they only care about money, not improoving their products..

[Q] Whoops, Dont yell at me :(

So lets say.. (Hypothetically) that a "friend" of mine accidently installed a Sprint ROM (The dragon rom) on his verizon phone, the phone is completely inoperable and doesn't even turn on. like holding on the power button does nill, and trying to put it into download mode yeilds no results as well, would it be possible to play stupid and return the phone to verizon since it's not been two weeks yet since i've had it? or will they catch on that the phone's been tinkered with? any imput would be appreciated. keep the wrist slaps for an obvious mistake to a minimum please I swear i thought it was for the verizon variant lol.
If it wont turn on at all then you should be fine returning it. You should also follow what my sig says
Committing fraud is never good, especially when it's due to stupidity. Sorry OP, it's the truth. Man up and pay to get that JTAGGED by mobile tech videos.
Not everyone has money to throw around. I don't think a new phone replacement is gonna affect a huge corporation all that much.

Yeah but...if you can justify one person...then you can jusity 10,000 people and so on and so forth.
Also if you don't have money to throw around, play it safe and don't do things like the OP.

If you don't have the money to spend on JTagging, you shouldn't be playing with fire on your rather expensive phone, IMHO.
I have sympathy for the OP's dilemma, but sometimes (depending on the circumstances, need to survive, etc.) we need to accept the consequences of our own actions and seek to avoid abusing policies that seem like part of a generic, abstractly large pot of abundance.
- ooofest
It doesn't affect the corporation, it affects the rest of us as consumers that purchase their products. They make up the loss with price increases. Retail stores do the same thing with stolen merchandise. Raise prices to offset the loss. I agree. Man up. Fraud is fraud and stealing is stealing. Makes no difference who its from. I'd never tell my kids its OK to lie, cheat, and steal as long as its from rich people lol.

should have asked OP before you tried. Maybe not on this site because they can be a little harsh on Noobs but the other dozens of sites on the web. If you have insurance on the phone drop it in water pay the deductible and get a new phone.

Exactly. You you have to think in the aggregate.
And to be honest, if you have the money to pay for the most expensive carrier and the most expensive phone on said carrier you can probably spare $50-60 to fix your own mistake.
I personally don't think it's fraud.... All Verizon is gonna due is use it as a refurb (and how do you think they get refurbs?) Sometimes a company has to open up BRAND NEW phones to give out as refurbs aka replacements, because I used to work for Nextel, before Sprint ate them up.... I was a tech and I remember having to open up brand new phones just so we had stock for refurbs cause when you release a new phone refurbs are non-existent until months after a release... And Samsung will just fix the phone but that does NOT make up for the part of NOT reading and following the instructions before you flash something... Every mod or rom that I flash I automatically know that if my phone dies it is MY fault cause I am playin with fire but flashing a totally different carriers rom is just plain stupid and I was a noob at one point and I NEVER even thought of flashing something until I read about a million pages of how to's and guides etc. I am not trying to be a **** but why would you think it's okay to flash a Sprint rom on your phone?? You will get a free pass on this one and get a replacement phone but if you do it again than you may want to think about just running stock because I think every noob gets one freebie and this is yours so go get a replacement and READ READ READ and if you can't find your answer than keep READING.... I have never bricked a phone and I guess I am lucky but I certainly have never flashed another carriers rom on my phone either... Just my 2 cents... Good luck and READ!
EDIT: I do NOT condone FRAUD!! There are just different ways of looking at what fraud is and I don't think the OP would be committing fraud... imo

Your post was deleted. It really isn't that hard to find threads to put in 10 quality posts.
And so help me if you 11th post (presumably in a Development thread) is a "Thanks for the ROM" or "This ROM is Awesome"
