Guys, I am planning to purchase a flagship recently, Samsung S9 was my favour before known Honor 10 from Honor hub of XDA ‘【The New Species in Color】Honor 10 makes Galaxy S9 looks boring!!!’. Honestly, the colour Aurora violet impressed me a lot. S9 looks a little bit boring (S9 still looks much better than iPhone 8) compared with Honor 10. Exclude the ID design, the specification of Honor 10 still not worse than S9.
It is no doubt the absolute performance of Kirin 970 is slightly weaker than Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810, but the high performance of 845 can do nothing exclude game! (Well, I’m not a gaming addict) In contrast, the NPU innovated in 970 is awesome, especially utilised for scene recognition and semantic image segmentation mode in camera. To illustrate this two AI technology, I quote the official explanation from Honor below:
The Honor 10’s AI camera was developed and supported by the NPU processor in the Kirin 970 chipset, which means it recognises 500+ scenarios in 22 categories real-time. It can pinpoint the outlines of various surrounding objects, like the sky, plants, people and waterfall, and identify their locations. This feature is supported by the industry-first Semantic Image Segmentation technology, which allows the Honor 10 to identify multiple objects in one single image. It is here where the Honor 10 stands out from the crowd at the first place. Furthermore, the industry-first Honor 10 features apply scene-specific parameters to each photo real-time when taking a picture, making every photo you take professional at just one click.
IT’S REALLY COOL!!!!
I’m sure there will be more AI utilizations in the future based on NPU. Currentlutilizationisation of new technology on the phone is much more rational than pursuing absolute performance blindly.
In the unlock aspects, S9 has iris recognition, facial recognition and fingerprint on the back. But I prefer the ultrasonic fingerprint on Honor 10 since it not only located on the front but also work with a wet finger. By the way, the facial recognition also present on Honor 10 lol…
And the battery of Honor 10 is 3400mAh which is more than 3000mAh in S9. I think Samsung is too conservative on both battery capacity and fast charge after the issue of Note 7, the small battery and outdated 18V fast-charging technology make S9 less attractive. Moreover, the SuperCharge of Honor provides 5V 4.5A = 22.5W keeps phone cool when charging compared with the high voltage 18W QC2.0 (9V 2A). The cool SuperCharge makes me feel more reliable than hot QC2.0, cause I always worry that my Galaxy S7 ‘Boom’ when I charging, it’s really hot!!!
Honor 10 has launched in China last week, ¥2599 (€340) for 64GB; ¥2999 (€391) for 128GB which is much cheaper than Galaxy S9 (nearly €1,000).
As the global launch event will be held on May 15th in the UK, I am so curious about the price. Here I listed some of the core specs of the two phones.
What price do you guys think this psychedelic new phone from Honor is going to be?
€400 or €500?
I have prepared €1,000 for S9 before, but now I think I can purchase two Honor 10 for me and my wife lol…
I would choose Honor 10.I just like huawei more.Price quality and specs ratio hands down for honor 10.
I would buy nokia 7 plus for superior build quality and stock android and faster updates and good battery
With Honor 10 in my hands for 4 days, I would say go buy it if you don't mind the over saturated camera, especially the overly airbrushed human faces in photos. So much for "AI camera"... I regretted my ¥2999.
Fair to say though the phone looks gorgeous and the notch can be turned off...
If I have another chance, I would rather wait for 1+6

Ok, that sounds terrible! Can you post some inages, with and without AI. some faces, plants, landscapes/city images? that would be greatly appreciated!
"especially the overly airbrushed human faces in photos."
Ah, but that makes the images 'professional' apparently. I think I'll stick to a proper, straight set of images that I can post process, should I so choose, with photoshop...
If honor 10 will launch in India with base variant at 35k then there is no competition with oneplus 6. Everyone go for the oneplus 6 at 37k. Also honor has unspecified version of gorilla glass protection. But oneplus 6 has gorilla glass 5. Last time honor launched it's honor v10 that has some of the better specs with it's bigger battery and price at just 30k of 128gb variant and also the display quality.
"Can you post some inages, with and without AI. some faces, plants, landscapes/city images? ..."
Unfortunately I don't have much spare time during the day - but I will try but not very soon.
"but that makes the images 'professional' apparently"
I guess those PS effect automation is the so-called "intelligence" of current camera-hype. I just don't like the overexposed and airburshed fake faces - some might like it though.
Colleage of mine who has s8+ said to me the same thing. He owned Piexl 1 before and would go back to Pixel 3 (when out) solely for the camera department.
Apart from camera the fingerprint recognition of Honor 10 is hardly usable with dry hands - face unlock is fatastic though.

You can, only partially. It has apeture, portrait and photo mode. In portrait mode you can set beauty level and photo mode has AI switch. I have set beauty level 0 and AI off - improving to some extent - but to me the photos are still overexposed and unnatual.
Selfie camera is more obvious even with beauty level 0.
BTW the phone was bought from China in a trip and I live in NZ so returning is a real challenge. I decided to keep it despite of the annoyances. I like the size and the looks of the body, dual sim functionality, and able to customise the UI to my liking...
What After adding to Huawei blacklist Trump that big screen cell phone would be good to buy. I love my 20x mate but let's be honest this will affect a lot to Huawei and q out your operating system and my OS) or is apps that has Google market are going to happen years it is possible that the factory only dedicated to continue selling in China and no longer internationally.
I honestly don't think there are any as good.
I didn't want to buy a Huawei because I'd much rather have an unlocked bootloader, but for me, the big screen, active pen, big battery, and fast cpu are too important to give up.
If you don't mind a slower CPU and no pen, but still want the huge screen, go with the Mi Max series.
If you want the pen, go with the Samsung Note 9.
I you just want an overall good phone, then there are plenty of other options depending on your priorities.
But I'd stick with the Mate 20 X. We shouldn't be affected that much. I'd guessing there will still be software updates for next year or so. I just bought mine 2 weeks ago and don't regret it at all.
I want a mate 20x another brand y
Cmon, u really run already.
All will be good again in one way or another [emoji1787][emoji23]
ZenFone 6!! Looks promising.
Actually i would go for zenfone as first choice, then mi max and in last place this could be samsung note series, depends on what battery will be in 10 release.
I'm thinking about the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, nice looking phone with full flat screen/no notch, camera upgrade or the Nubia Red Magic 3 with a 90Hz screen and also a 5000mAh battery. I now that that both are 6.65 inch and smaller then the Mate 20 X, but i hide the notch from the begin, so i think the difference wil not be huge.
The ZenFone 6 is a no go for me, because it doesn't have a amoled screen. I really don't want a new phone without it.

Yeah I am in the same boat...I mean already the Mate 20 x looks like a Hobbit compared to where I was coming from mediapad X2 and Sony Z3 Tablet Compact so I am having a hard time adjusting to the much smaller size but of course, the hardware itself is WAY above both of those phablets I had before.
All of these other phones are much narrower and smaller than the 20 X. A friend of mine wanted to try the OP7 Pro and we went to T-Mobile yesterday and he bought one to use along side his 20 X but after a day he said it's probably going back as it's just way too small. The camera isn't as good and the battery life isn't even close to the 20 X. My advice would be to keep the 20 X until another manufacturer decides to make a phone as large as the 20 X.

But the OP7 Pro looks smaller because it has curved glass, what i really don't like.
I still think it's all going to blow over and in a few months the wotsit in a wig and china will come to some sort of agreement, somewhat annoying that Donald making a decision like this affects us non Americans!
But, if the worst happened, as long as the play store etc was ok then I'd probably just carry on and keep using the Mate 20 X, Android P works fine for me so I can live with the phone staying as it is for another 12 months or so.
The only tempting part will be when the Pixel 4 and Note 10 are released and seeing what they are bringing with them, but they'd have to offer something ridiculously special which i doubt they will do

The OP7 Pro also has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio which is skinnier than the Mate 20 X's 18.7:9 and the crappy curved glass doesn't help. It sucks with phones when you live in the US. Not a lot of Global devices support all the US LTE bands.
Hi guys,
What other phone is just as good as the 20x ?
Answer is really simple : NONE.
Please don't get me wrong : I am by no means a Huawei/Honor fan.
Quite the opposite...
But let's face it : what other manufacturer offer a display that is close or above 7" ?
Answer here is really simple : there are only 2.5 manufacturers doing this :
- Xiaomi with the mi Max 3 ;
- Honor with the Note 10 and 8x Max ;
- Huawei with the Mate 20x.
Compare the 20x with the mi Max 3 and the Honor 8x max is of course not a question. They're simply not playing in the same league.
One may say whatever he wants about the Kirin SoC, but comparing a Kirin 980 with e snapdragon 636 is just not fair.
And comparing an IPS display with an OLED one isn't a fair comparison either.
So that leaves the Honor Note 10.
But it may have the same issues as Huawei. about Android.
And to make things clear : the developlment of Android has been halted to Huawei.
But :
- that doesn't mean that the past is getting rid off ; so if the phone is working right now, it will continue to work right after...
- Huawei still has access to the free source aosp and has enough power to continue to offer some updates based on that. And honestly : who is buying Huawei for the frequent updates ? You want a phone that is updated constantly ? There's only one manufacturer to go : Xiaomi... monthly updates for all their phones.
Just my own thoughts and expressing a personal opinion. I don't try to force my views on this upon any member of this community. So please, do not flame me if you disagree...
Regards.
I had all 4 phones, now i only have the M20X which is so much better the the other 3.
Then comes Note 10, Mi max 3 and 8X max.
And im satisfied as it is, so i can live with it 1 year more if.
I just hope Ark OS soon will be released, im ready to support that vs Trump/US/Google/Android no matter what. This fake president shall not decide my choice of phone.
Even if I am upset about Huawei system update policies, I've never been so comfortable with a phone before (well, maybe the Ascend Mate 7).
- The REAL dual speakers are incredibly outstanding. My wife ditched the iPad Mini-bluetooth speaker pair to start watching anything video-related on my 20X with me. We are really impressed.
- Speaking of multimedia, the screen is simply gorgeous.
- I hadn't ANY issue with ANY game. Period. I know the 855 is all around the news today, but this Kirin is nowhere behind. It flies.
- Calls are loud and crisp, seomthing which is really important for me.
- We have an LG Smart TV with webOS. It took me like 1 minute to launch the desktop from the 20X. I've tested it a couple of times, but I think this feature is something I will start using more frequently in the future, for sure.
- One of the best cameras around, even in night mode. No, no GCam needed, it does its work effortlessly and fluidly, something every frigging flagship camera should do (and not every one of them do).
Even if I only get security patches for the rest of its life, I'm keeping this beauty for a LONG time.
I also love the speakers, what phone has two real speakers? Mostly the second speaker is the call speaker now and that's sounds bad. The same with the IR blaster, what new phone has that?
I wish that 5G version was a nice upgrade (WQHD+ screen, higher ppi, 90hz, under–screen fingerprint, more ram/storage, no notch, more zoom camera), but it looks more like a downgrade.

Oukitel K9 7.12" with 6000mAH battery
I have this device
looks like a 20x clone minus some of the polish-not as fast not as loud but am sure can be improved a lot
has all US bands like 20x so works great here
stock Android 9
I got the SP flash tool flashable ROM
attached are the ROM contents
wonder if anyone could take up this for development
I picked it up from AliExpress for $179
Great great battery life better than 20x imo (but then performance is a price you pay-could be the Mediatek versus Kirin and just s/w ui polish missing)
EDIT it does have OEM bootloader unlocker option that you can choose and set active
not tried it yet-maybe it is a simple fastboot unlocker command without code (don't know untl I try or I might ask the company contacts who sent me the ROM and instructions etc)

the 0.3 cumulative seconds saved over time did not change my life (doubt changes anyone's in reality)
definitely the 20x feels better no doubt having used both

the mi max 3 imo was the best among the lot and I liked it more than the 20x ...the lack of network bands support (only 4 and 5 for Tmobile and ATT, and ATT does not even broadcast on 4 in my state, 5 is very spotty-so it was mostly on 3g or umts) otherwise mi max 3 with miui candy was the best also from balance, weight and feel standpoint
too bad no mi max 4 and mi mix 4 will never get a 6.9 variant
it seems to me that the OEMs are walking away from the large screens
why? 8x max came in the 7.2" first that the mate 20x eventually got
now 9x max is only coming in the 6.59" (as is the 9x)
then you have Xiaomi not doing the max 4
so that tells me the 6.9 to 7.2 era is done or on a pause for now
instead get 6.6 and 6.7 super skinny phones purporting to be large screen phones when they are not due to the elongated aspect ratios
Unfortunately true, aspect 19.5x9 or new 20x9 is killing size, 6.7inch samsung a70 or op 7 pro have real size of old 16x9 phone 6 inch. This is nothing.
I think also that they kill 7 inch products to make space for foldable phones which costs few times more...
But still I hope Huawei will make 30x! Not just hope, but really think it is real.
Just received my oppo find X2 pro this morning from EE.
Brilliant phone!
I recently had the Samsung S20 ultra (exynos) and wow this is miles better ? 12gb ram 512gb storage what a beast?.
I did think it was a dual SIM phone unpon ordering even tho I don't use 2 Sims it seems weird how they removed this feature.
Disappointing not dual SIM.
Lovely piece of kit almost as good as Huawei p40 pro.

That's strange, Find X2 Pro is overall praised for its excellent color reproduction. Detail is also top tier, actually even beating P40 Pro by a very slight margin (in ideal lighting conditions).
My advice is: don't return it. ColorOS 7.2 is about to come (I'd give it 2-3 months before it reaches us) and, among other nice improvements, it releases Oppo Camera SDK allowing other apps (such as Snapchat, Instagram, gcam) use all its lenses.
So if you're willing to wait with maybe a little bit less top-tier camera (perfectly top-tier and well-rounded in my opinion though) by then, you will get a very capable gcam rather soon.
Nah, I will return it. If 7.2 improves it enough I will buy it again at a reduced price
Welcome to England where you can buy things use them and again use them, then you feel disappointed and sen it back, then after couple of days you buy it again but this time cheaper
The phone is good stop whining
I've had the S20 ultra and the iPhone 11 pro and p40 pro this year and I'm impressed with the camera on this phone compared to them and I'm not saying there crap as there all good shooters and there's many strengths and weaknesses in all of them, I think it's very similar to the p40 pro but I prefere the colour this phone produces rather than the p40 pro as the p40 seems over saturated a lot of the time to me where this phone seems more life like.
It's a brilliant phone and I will certainly be upgrading to the next oppo find x next year regardless to what apple and Samsung, Huawei, Google bring out in the future.
Holding this phone compared to anything else, you get to realise how premium this phone is.

The phone is good. But for £1100 I expect more than just good. My 18m mate 20 pro is better in every way except refresh rate and processor. Gone back to that and haven’t looked back
Wouldn't have another SoC other than Snapdragon hence why I didn't get a Samsung or Huawei, Kirin & Exynos will forever be inferior
Out of interest, what firmware version is the EE supplied handsets running?
My SIM free from Amazon is currently at CPH2025CPW_11_A.30
It has CPW in the name which is not showing in the name of the version on their website. ROM versions get a bit confusing! I think Vodafone is VF but not sure if EE has its own version.
Also whilst I remember, if you are in a 5G area, does it work OK and show 5G in the top? I've got 5G enabled but when I do a manual search for providers it doesn't show anyone with 5G but I know the local 3 mast is 5G! I thought that would be in the list
Cheers

I was eagerly waiting for the OnePlus 9 Pro, because I have become a OnePlus guy. Unfortunately, I can't get use to having a camera hole cut out, on the screen. If I must put up with it, then the hole must be centered and not off to the side. I was hoping OP would have continued the OP 7 Pro thing or figured out the under the screen technology.
Anyhow, what I am looking for:
No camera hole punch out (even if it means I must have a little bezel). If the camera hole is on the screen, it needs to be centered.
Big screen
Android based, with easy to unlock bootloader (ideally a company that supports it like OnePlus)
5G compatible
Lots of ram, fast processor, lots of disk storage - aka i want a flagship/top of the line.
Something with screen burn-in protection technology
Good camera
Works with T-Mobile in the USA
Although I love a good deal, I am not too concern about the price tag (as long as it is reasonable, like less than $1200 USD).
That said, any recommendations? I also don't mind waiting for OnePlus 9t Pro if there is any solid rumors that they will do something special to the front facing camera.
I am currently using a OnePlus 5t and although I like the phone, issues are starting to arise (issue with VoLTE and certain Bluetooth headsets, screen burn-in, etc).
Any advice would be much appreciated .
That's a lot of money, you can buy a Galaxy S21 Ultra, you'll love it. There's no burn-in proof display, it can be avoided by shifting on the screen pixels, so it's a software thing, you don't have to worry too much, unless you have a bad habit of keeping the screen on all night.
You can also check midrange devices, usually you won't feel any difference, for an example, there's Redmi Note 10, Galaxy A72, Galaxy A52, offering large displays, fast processors, at least 6 GBs of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, and even 5G support for some models.
All that for less than 500$ (my cousin got brand new RN10 for 200$). Cameras are not a thing to worry about anymore. However, One Plus 9T Pro's front facing camera setup is a bit strange, you should avoid it if the rumours are true.

For considerably less money you can get very good devices covering from the 1 to the 7 of your questions, just I don't know the 8th.
For example comes to my mind the Galaxy Note 10 (although it's 2 years old), the Galaxy S20, but I would go for a Xiaomi Mi 11.

Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco still have warranty coverage after bootloader unlock. Double check warranty policy youself on their website though, may vary between countries and region.
Hey guys,
I have just ordered myself the HONOR Magic Vs (Live in the UK) so I'll be able to do some comparison between the two devices.
Just from the spec sheets, they do look quite similar with the Thinness aspect going to the Mix Fold 2 and the Battery size going to the Magic Vs...
The biggest plus of the Magic Vs is the "Global" factor. It has full Google support, and no Chinese bloatware (which is a little strange for a Huawei... aahhh sorry HONOR device )
For more specific impressions, after I receive it. Should only take a couple of days (I hope) It is a local UK delivery after all...
Another thing to consider is the price! Currently, it is "only" £1199 with the £200 discount promo code they give you when you register at the hihonor.com website. The standard price after 25.05 will be £1399 or 1599 Euro in some EU countries...
If you would like to know anything specific, just ask. I'll answer all questions when I get it.

I thought about buying the Honor Magic Vs or Tecno Phantom V Fold. But the Honor inner screen is max 90Hz and has a camera hole. Tecno is not really known yet.
So i bought the Xiaomi Fold 2 in sale (€1000), unlocked the bootloader and rooted it. I made it more global with Magisk modules.
Before the Xiaomi Fold 2 i had the Vivo X Fold. It has great camera's, loved the two in-display fingerprint readers and mute switch. But thinks like Android Auto didn't work and Vivo doesn't want you to unlock the bootloader.
I skip the Oppo Find N2 and maybe also the Google Pixel Fold because i don't like it in size.
Still curious what you think about the Honor Magic Vs.
Since you asked it here on XDA forum, of course I will recommend Xiaomi devices over Huawei/Honor ones. I will never take a device with non-unlockable bootloader into account!
I have both.
TBH I prefer the Xiaomi. Even though the Honor magic vs has full GMS /Android auto so you dont need to root, it lacks basics like wifi calling/volte
If it didn't have the internal selfie camera, I might have been more inclined. This is one of the deciding factors for the Mix Fold 2 too. Completely un-interrupted inner screen.

And what about the camera's comparison?

Cameras are 50MP Main, 6MP Telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and 50MP Wide angle. Should be able to produce quite reasonable results.

Yeah, the camera hole can be annoying but all other foldables I've owned had it (except the Mix Fold 2) that I'm used to it. If the software can be made to ignore it, I'll be reasonably happy...
Hey guys,
I've been playing for a while with the Magic Vs and here are some initial thoughts of mine:
1. Everything just works! Global ROM is a blessing that you can only fully appreciate after you had several years of Chinese ROMs on Devices not made for Global use. Even some apps look a little different than the versions I have in the Mix Fold 2. All google services are happily running, Android Auto is integrated into the software.
The only thing that makes me miss Root a little bit is AdAway. It still works but with Root it works better. All My banking apps work flawlessly, Fingerprint is not iffy with them (have an issue with it in the Lloyds Banking App on the Mix Fold 2)
2. Hardware and build quality wise it is quite nice. It feels as good as the Mix Fold 2. The camera hole on the internal screen is not that bad although I know some people will hate it. Battery life seems better for now but it is too early for that. I'll have to use it at least for a week to give you more accurate notes on that.
The sound is on par and maybe a little bit better sounding... Most probable because there is a little bit more space inside for better speaker chambers... Don't know... A lot nicer rind and Alarm melodies BTW
On that note, the device does not feel any thicker than the Mix Fold 2. Both screens are a couple of mm smaller but the difference is negligible...
3. No notification issues so far... The is one strange thing that all app notifications are not enabled by default but the first time you start the app, it will ask for all needed permissions like in a normal phone for the Global market.
Google Assistant is fully integrated and working. "Hey Google" works even on a locked phone.
The always-on display shows all notifications. NetFlix is fully supported with HDR10...
Basically, it shows what the Mix Fold 2 could have been if it had proper Global software.
One more interesting thing I found just now is that due to some Honor... Magic... the Gboard keyboard switches from a normal one to the split type the moment you go to the big screen... and stays like that in both portrait and landscape... Miracle
I'm doubtful to buy the Honor Magic vs. The 12GB/512GB global model now only costs €1005 at pdaplaza, but i've now got pretty much everything working on my Xiaomi Mix Fold 2. Choices.
