I was looking to purchase this phone early as its £100 off in the UK but am worried about the below from reading on here.
There are problems with the phone no working with LTE as some have mentioned there is no option within the OS to say that its supported or lacks a way to enable it. Also reading below comment from my Carrier ThreeUK I may hold of is call quality is a issue until someone can check the options in the ROGPhones settings and ThreeUK confirm support for 3rd party phones on their network.
4G Super-Voice doesn't work on other non-Three devices yet however, even if the manufacturer has stated that it's VoLTE compatible. We're working on this, so be sure to check back for updates.
Is there anyone who can check and advise if this worth holding back for at the cost of £100 as id buy the phone out right
Just wondering this too. I have a Pixel 2 XL and a Moto G6 Plus on it's way and I would like to get VOLTE (AKA Supervoice) working. Option to enable it is missing and go deeper into the settings and VOLTE Provisioning is greyed out
My Carrier Three UK support the following bands:
800mhz (4G) Band 20
1800mhz (4G) Band 3
2100mhz (3G) Band 1
i get lost between phone version A and B as both support FDD-LTE bands listed above. I dont get TD-LTE at all in my country, then what confuses me is WCDMA where i get band 1 & 3 but not 20, then TS-SCMA and CDMA and the last row i dont think is still on in the uk.
so having a look on the razer phone specs as i know it works on three uk even when bought from razer but as the stock both RP1 and RP2 this maybe in their carrier settings.

compared to the RP1 i have and RP2 and then comparing to Asus i think ill be ok but need to test the LTE/Supervoice. i dont make calls that often so need to see the impact it has but then in 15 days i could test this out once the phones setup and updated make a few calls without wifi connection at my desk at work and at my house where they are the only two places i may hit a black spot and have to rely on wifi calling but this is where LTE comes in and is required to allow me to make that call on LTE/Super Voice rather than wifi calling so that if i have to leave the room or building the call does not drop out.

its basically a test it and see what happens, so if i can make a decent call from home or work at that point if i find its hard to make and stay connected on the phone in a call i will have to return the device.
If its not a problem and i can make and receive a call without LTE support even if it comes later which would be nice but not needed right away i can live without it. Hey i may just even work when the carrier settings hit my phone but if people say the option is greyed out that could be the network or phone doesnt support it. However if Asus are selling the phone as LTE supported and its at the bottom of the page im leading towards its enabled by carrier settings if not then i would investigate as ASUS need to look at their settings because their technically breaking the law if their advertising it as a feature and your carrier say it will work but the phone doesnt enable it. Again if you have this issue do not throw this at ASUS without doing homework 1st as from smart phones these days its hard to see where a problem lies could be google or asus or your carrier.
If you buy from asus uk direct you get 15 days to test it and check it over so in that time you its one of the things to check and return if it doesnt for you.
It hard to just buy a phone thats not sold with a contract these days and yes even Apple phones have features that some carriers support and some dont. Look at visual voice mail as i was with o2 UK for years and got freaked out when i lost the visual voicemail feature because i moved to Three UK. where you get a txt message rather than a little icon with a number on it. small thing but a good example.
I did try contacting ASUS about VoLTE and Wifi Calling on Three. Or if they didn't support it on the unlocked version would they be selling the device through UK Carriers where they would put there own version of the firmware on the device to support these functionalities. But as I kinda expected would happen there response wasn't exactly clear. I think they just took a look at the spec sheet and said yep it says VoLTE on there and replied to me.
Would love to get this to replace my Razer Phone but rely on Wifi Calling/VoLTE as signal just dies inside the flat.

I have pre ordered from the official website/asus reseller i have a list of things i will be comparing to my Razer Phone 1st gen. if it meets the standard im happy with i will keep the phone and if not then it goes back for a refund. Im the same but i think LTE/VOLTE is a gimmick as i barely see that im using it enough to justify my phone being locked down to a carrier. Current all ThreeUK related settings such as LTE/4G Supervoice and wifi calling is off and has been for about 2 weeks now and i must say i have not noticed a difference.
Worth checking and turning off some settings as LTE is only really used in blackspot.
I got the phone during £100 off and also got the twin view dock before it went out of stock was probably the first few ppl to get the dock cuz soon after it was out of stock
Works well with three £20 unlimited broadband package unlimited message, voice thats why i like three their data package are always a good buy
But my speeds arnt bad as its 4G and no issue with calls either three may send a message saying it cant automatically set the settings up for this device as they normally message you the network settings but it dint need setting up it worked right away
I'm currently with EE. No VoLTE no VoWiFi. Hope Pie update will have it cooked in. OnePlus 6 got them both.

I think this is not possible. Because in my country, we need band 20, and many china devices does not have that band. Many people are working on that (enabling band 20) for many years. till this time I've never seen anyone can use it.
Some people advertised that they can open band 20 and can use it. But, I've tested that devices. It (band20) seems opened, but never connected to cell network. This means, if you open it, it will be opened only in software level, not hardware level.
I see with my eyes,
there were 2 same phones 1 has band20 naturally, the other one china device has not naturally band20 but seller claimed opened it later.
The first phone connects and works normally with band20(internet connection with 25Mbs, and 4g cell network connection), but the second one sometimes seems connected, sometimes can not connect but never connected to internet and cell network means not worked normally.
As I first say, people always works on this here, but never seen a solution...
any updates on this?
I might have to sell this phone or switch to TMobile. AT&T's 4G without LTE is really slow.

Just one thing irritates me: there are three Versions A, B and C, as one can see here under "Network Standard"

You'll be able to use it anywhere, it's just there's slightly less band coverage, so some networks in some countries would be nixed.

It means you'll have to be sure to verify you get the version with the bands needed for your particular carrier. You have to be very careful and verify before buying as it seems with the ZenFone 5Z, for example, sellers don't always properly clarify which version they're selling.
You need to find out which of the main bands your phone carrier uses then match them up to one of the versions. I use AT&T prepaid, so for for example I need a phone with coverage for bands 2,4,5,8, and 17 if I recall correctly.
If some bands aren't covered you won't have LTE in that area, as not all areas you're in are using the same network frequency bands. Therefore coverage can get worse when you travel with a phone without full band support.
Checked out the bands available on the Asus site you linked (thank you very much BTW) and it seems they are missing bands 66(extension of band 4) & 71 (600mhz frequency) so it seems like it may work okay on TMobile.
What do you guys think if those two bands are missing? Will it be detrimental to daily use or not really? Currently on an OG Pixel and this Asus offering is looking like a future purchase!!

I just checked: T-Online and Vodafone use Band 20 and 32 (in Germany), but none of the three versions support both.

Yes, as long at the other bands are supported (which they should be) it will drop to 3G/4G or whatever. That's why people using some Chinese phones for example in the USA can use everything but LTE.
You might
need to check however about VoLTE, I think. I don't have T-Mobile but you should read more about that as I've seen it mentioned in XDA & other places.

This device just hit my radar... looks like we might have an upgrade winner!
For Tmobile US, C model is the way to go. The two highest bands that are missing with this device would get you better signal indoors / less interference, but I am not sure how far along that tech even is.

By highest bands do you mean 66 and 71? The only phones that use band 71 at the moment are Samsung s8 Active and LG V30. I currently have an OG Pixel and it does not use 66 or 71 and I get great coverage in the East coast even when going north into the mountains.

Yep, those are the two. Those two are still relatively new, and general Tmo coverage continues to improve here in Colorado.
I imagine that once the phone is sold on the asus.com website that particular variant will support all the main carriers LTE bands. I would be surprised if there were any major issues with that otherwise what's the point of even selling it in the USA?

Yes, for example in the case of the 5Z I just ordered (to get me by since I desperately need a phone with a better camera & no OLED to cause eye strain) the bands listed for phones at the Asus USA online store cover AT&T properly and to the best of my knowledge T-Mobile as well.
I figured out that they don't list phones there that aren't USA network compatible. I still check, regardless, just to feel 100% sure but that's what I found.
It's the 3rd party sellers you really need to be careful about and always verify.

After reading that the latest ZenUI 6 has been slimmed down to an almost stock Android experience, I thought it might once again be similar to what Asus provided before ZenUI came along and that I can now once again consider Asus phones. Wrong!
I spend time in both Europe and Asia and there is no version that covers both areas major LTE bands. So Asus will have to remain on the list of phones to ignore.

I'm in the same position. The C version covers everything I need except for Band 20 which is a necessity throughout Europe. The A version has Bamd 20 but won't work on US LTE. They did the same thing with the Zenfone 2 and inexplicably mixed up the bands regionally. I'll stick with my NexS for now but keep an eye on this phone in case the Limited edition they usually release solves the problem.

I currently own an OG Pixel from 2016 and it does not have those bands you quote in the HardForum (66, 71) and yet my Pixel operates great on my area. Are those bands important for use in your area? TMobile is my carrier if that helps any. I plan on purchasing it without a doubt.

I am on TMobile too currently running with a Moto G6. It has band 66 but not band 71 , and like your phone it runs great in my area too. However, I never have had a need to use band 66 or 71 . The only reason I mentioned the ZenFone 6 not having band 66 and 71 is some owners have the need (remote area, penetration of a building in the area where they are, etc).
What is critical for me is how will not having VoLTE affect my call quality?
Every phone I ever owned has had VoLTE as does your Pixel. For experimentation I toggled my phone's Preferred Network Type to 3G and made some calls to a robotic answering service and listened to their recordings and couldn't discern any difference in incoming voice quality when compared to 4G LTE. Incoming call quality over 2G however, sounded all muffled and terrible as would be expected.
Granted that is not an ideal way to test out call quality, better would be to make calls to different people over 4G and 3G and assess how they sound to me - and ask how I sound to them. But I have been reluctant to bug any of my handful of friends to do this with me.
My local TMobile outlet tells me that I shouldn't expect any loss of calling sound quality over their 3G network towers because TMobile is continually making tweaks to optimize them as part of their ongoing tower maintenance.
However, if you listen to what TMobile and others have to say about VoLTE it reads like this...

VoLTE (Voice over LTE) allows you to place and receive calls on our LTE data network, and it's available nationwide.
Placing a call connects twice as fast.
Switching between 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling does not drop a call.

This would not be a dealbreaker as my rural
need or getting great service in buildings is not that important but others, as yourself, do require it. As for phone calls, rarely happens for me, and I am a heavy texter so texting should be fine. The choice is yours.

Pretty much any phone released today supports it but carriers require specific profiles for their network. There isn't a universal profile that I'm aware of. So when a carrier says your phone isn't supported or your phone does not support it, they mean that your phone isn't certified by them or have their specific network profile.
I'll admit I'm a bit uncertain on the process of getting a phone to work with the profiles in the sense that I don't know if Asus needs to do the leg work or it's the carrier. It's probably both. That's what's causing the more obscure phone models to be limited in regards to network-specific features. So if you want to ensure support, sadly you need to buy a more mainstream device.
I'm going to have to pass on this phone. Last week I contacted ASUS technical support and requested that the inclusion of bands 66 and 71 be made via a firmware update. I also asked if ASUS is planning to enable VoLTE on North American carriers. This was their response.

In regards of your escalated query, our engineering department confirms the enabling of any GSM LTE bands cannot be done within firmware since it's integrated in the hardware of the modem itself.
Also on all our current unlocked USA/CANADA Zenfones, we currently do not have support for Voice Over LTE VoLTE in our North American market at this time.

will volte work out the box for TMobile ? They won't activate phones on their network after a while if they don't support VOLTE.... Or any plans to update it in the near future. When will this go on sale in North America?

I am currently on T-mo, it doesn't do VoLTE currently, I know its possible via root and changing parameters. ALSO they just enabled VoLTE for their ROG phone 3 via an update so I will assume they will probably do the same for the ZF7, if not I will have to root it.
I asked an asus rep about sale in NA and they didn't have an answer from marketing team, so I bought mine on eBay
I'm beginning to think they will sell in in america especially if they enable volte for TMobile like they did the rog 3. I'm waiting to see if they enable volte on the 6 and the 7.
And then there's the OnePlus 8T coming in going to weigh my optione

Will this work on att in the states? Also which model if so?
ATT will ONLY work upto 3g. You will see an H on top the signal bar which indicates a Enhanced 3g speed also know as HSPA speed connection. I have tried 2 new sim cards. I have tried several APN's I have tried all updates and a reset. No 4G and no 5G on ATT. Unless someone can tell me something new, this phone will not FULLY work on ATT. Text works. Calls work. Internet is sort of hit and miss with decent signal but again rather slow.
T Mobile will ONLY work upto 4g. No Volte although it seems to have the capability of Volte it cant not work with Tmobile Volte because it seems the cell bands are not compatible. Text work. Internet works rather fast, Good solid signal however no 5G and no Volte due to incompatible cell bands.
I did research on this subject and found that the ATT cell bands for everything including 5G do seem to be compatible with the 7 pro but again, it does not FULLY work oddly
I also did research on Tmobile cell bands and the bands for 5G are not even close to being compatible. Volte is also non compatible. 4g is compatible and works..

Already did and still not getting anything. Tried even resetting the mobile data settings and messing with APN and still no 5G. I checked my T-mobile account and it shows that my device is unknown to T-mobile and it says that it's not 5G capable. I think the answer is in T-mobile's own system.

Went to T-mobile store and they told me my SIM is fine and the reason for not receiving 5G or 4G LTE was because T-mobile was unable to recognize the ROG phone 5 in their system. They gave me a phone number to their customer service and asked me to explain to them that the phone is 5G capable and hopefully they can fix this problem.

Hello,
Same problem only 4g working. Please let me know if you get it fixed makes no sense on a 1k phone with no 5g.

Was with t mobile chat for half n hr. No help with 5g. All they said was we working on new 5g towers in your area. But 5g was working on my rog 3.

Yes they couldn't help me as well. The tech support said the phone was not in their system as it's not a t-mobile phone and therefore not possible to get 5G. And for the record the phone is not even receiving 4G LTE. The only thing the phone is receiving is 4G.

This is nonsense why is Asus lying and selling this phone as 5g. With only 4g working this phone is worth only maybe 400 dollars not 1000 dollars plus. Really mad, planning on returning this phone back. Any suggestions guys what latest phone is good apart from Samsung with good speakers and battery life?

Either we wait for Asus official US release maybe they will push an update to fix this or if you have to return it I say go with One plus 9 pro as it seems the most compatible with T-mobile plus it's sold by T-mobile themselves.
There is a reason that so many of the sellers tell you to check the bands before purchasing the device for a specific carrier. It should also be noted that you cannot change the bands with a software update.

What this means, in the simplest possible terms, is that you CAN get 5G if the specific tower where you connect provides the band that your device supports. Not to throw salt on it, but Version 2 and 3 also lack 4G band 12, which is the extended range band for T-Mobile.

I appreciate your help. The biggest question I have is how to tell which version of the phone you have. Mine at the time of purchase was listed as I005DA. I think Asus's biggest mistake was not releasing the phone in the US to begin with.

I am planning on buying a ROG Phone 5 Tencent Games Editor phone, as this is the only version available to my local stores.
My question is, will this phone get OTA updates in international / global rom?

No it will not as far as I'm aware. But updating it is extremely easy. Just download the WW updates from Asus website and put it in your phone and restart the device and you should get a notification saying your phone has an update press on update and wait for it to finish. Your phone doesn't need to be rooted or anything at all.
I ended up returning it guys, not getting 5g is highly unacceptable in today's world. I got a Sony 1 ii for now it's quite good and gets 5g. Will get the Sony 1 iii in few months once it comes out.

There will be US version with proper US bands support somewhere in May or June according to press release. For now you have to wait for announcement

Excuse the rant for a minute, but there are a whole bunch of eBay and other sellers out there passing off their reflash devices as new, which makes it really hard for anyone to know what they bought because you get a Tencent device with a WW ROM and a manual in Chinese with the global apps.
The easiest way to know which device you have is to look in the box where the case and SIM pin were located. There should be a wax paper sheet with two black stickers on it. That will give you the exact model number.
If you got anything higher than 12GB RAM, it's Chinese. The European 16GB release isn't until the end of May and the Pro / Ultimate will come after that. The US was estimated for Q2, but it will also be the 12GB in the first release. If you got one claiming to be US, it's probably European (or Chinese).
