Hi all, my new phone which I have owned for nearly a year HTC U11 64gb had a fight with the car door and lost. Lines running down all colours so cannot see any apps or able to answer the phone when it rings I can unlock the phone as I have fingerprint setup but do not have USB debug activated. HTC have advised £120 plus any additional parts that may be required if I don not want to go ahead I have to pay a £27 charge for them examining the phone, but prior to even looking at the phone they will restore to factory.;
Is there any way I can get all my personal stuff off photos videos mainly and documents, when I connect the phone to PC it bongs once but there is nothing in My Computer, my knowledge of computing is very limited so need help please.
Also will the HTC U11 life screen connect onto the board for me to gain access and copy what i need and back up the phone, the U11 Life connector looks the same and I can buy the screen for under £22 delivered where the U11 5.5" is coming in at £55.
Hope you tech guys can help.
Cheers
Size matters
The screens on the u11 & u11 life are different sizes. That alone will cause it not to fit... Working with mobile devices for years I will say there will most likely be other issues (cable, pins, size of cable/width) even if you just wanted to use a screen temporary for data transfer.. in the US a screen for a u11 costs $55-60 on eBay I suggest just getting the correct one for the u11 standard.

Another idea is from another post, using an external display on your device ( if your digitizer works )

guys i have been using windows mobile from past 5 years.i have used the following phones:
1 o2 xdaIIi(display cracked)
2 xda neo(dead)
3 xda mini S (display prob)
4 htc touch
5 omnia
6 htc diamond(dead)
now the problem is my htc diamond is dead..it was working fine and was kept on table, but as i pressed the power button to use it it was off...i thought maybe the battery is low..i switched in the ac power adaptor but there was no light around the cirlcle.it was out of warranty so i went to a local mobile repair shop...he told me that the whole plate(ic plate) is short...i was like???? how can this happen as the phone was working fine before i kept it on table....i went to another repair shop he told the same and i asked the reason then he told me that its water damaged...he also said that it got to life once when he used a fully charged battery but it drained the battery very quickly n never got on again....i asked him that how water can enter when it was on a dry surface,he replied that maybe becoz of moisture or some other reason water has entered......
now my question is :
is there any solution i can bring it back to life
if not is there any way i can backup my internal 4gb data??
should i now buy a iphone 3g 8 gb or should i again try to give chance to HTC HD(blackstorm) with fingers crossed
if there is anyone who wanna buy the following phone can reply here or pm me....i have following phones to sell
1 xda neo was working fine but is not starting now most probably software problem
2 xda mini s..working fine but the display is messy because of the display ribbon
3 htc diamond ....dead (reason stated above)
guys no one to help me decide which phone to buy????also help me to get my htc diamond back to life or recover the data from 4gb internal memory
plz someone help me....i have heard that htc hd also have alignment and newton screen problem as it was with my diamond also???????
I don't think anybody would buy the dead or damaged phones unless you disclose the original price as well as selling price
there are Marketplace to sell this things. You should post em..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=476 let use it..
well selling is not my first preferance,my main question is to buy an htc hd or iphone 3g,secondly i wanna know where is internal memory of diamond and can the data be recovered????
As this is a WM forum I think everyone would advise you to buy a HD (or even HD2), but after all it's up to you, play a bit with both phones and see what suits you better.
As to the internal storage... there's probably no easy way to recover the data .
Hey all,
So recently the display on my tf700 went out for no apparent reason, just tried to unlock one day and nothing would show up. I can tell that everything functions via a microhdmi to my TV, and that the digitizer works great. My only issue is that there are currently no replacement parts of any kind for this kind of issue for the TF700 specifically. I've seen that there are some replacement LCD/Digitizers for the tf100, 200, etc. but I'm pretty sure that the enhanced resolution of the TF700 screen makes it different from the others. (Or am I wrong?)
So at this point I am debating whether or not to sending it in to get it RMA'd, but the problem with this is that the tablet is unrooted and unlocked.. I've heard some people on this forum say that their bill comes out to some obscenely large numbers due to a motherboard replacement for having their tablet unlocked and I wouldnt want to send my tablet in just to have some ridiculous bill for a minor issue. (just like everyone else)
I'm probably going to try and pop it open sometime this weekend and take a look inside to see if its anything incredibly simple that happened, which I hope it is.. *fingers crossed
tl;dr : Has anyone else successfully fixed a display issue on a TF700 specifically? Has anyone tried to send in their unlocked tablet with this issue and had to deal with an expensive bill?
I have seen cases where ASUS would repair tablets free of charge. But its not "No strings attached". From what I have seen ASUS will re-lock your boot loader and the unlock tool will not be able to unlock it again. However, I think that it maybe fixable using the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Also, if its just the screen then it probably wont cost that much. The cpu and the motherboard are will cost you if they have to replace either of those. I hope this helps solve your problems.

One other thing, if your tablets hdmi works then its probably just the screen. So, that would probably cost under $100 to replace.
I want your opinions. I'm looking into buying the S6, but wanting to know how big of an issue it is.
It was to me which is why I purchased a Note 4 today. You should too.
Depends.. have you ever relied on SD and removable battery on a phone? you have to answer your own question
Because of the battery I'll keep my S4 as a backup device for the long hikes or travel situations where a removable battery is very helpful.
The missing micro sd isn't a problem for me - I see more benefits in it. I was never a fan of a "splitted" storage where I've to move things around, hope that developer support it and sometimes having file issues even with big brands like Sandisk cards. Now we have finally 32/64/128gb main storage available and don't longer have to deal with 16GB.
So I'm happy with the change they did to the storage, and for the battery I'll keep my old device as a backup for the 4-5 situations a year where it's helpful.
About the removable battery...
It is not just the fact the battery is not easy to swap out but is going to require a repair center to replace the battery for more people when the time comes. Also, if the phone were to get wet, the battery could not easily be removed while trying to dry it out.
I was set in buying the 6. Now, I think I may settle on the s5 or Note 4 unless the Active 6 brings back some of these features. I have read conflicting information on when the active version will be released.
It could be a deal breaker for me. I'm not a fan of sealed units.
I have the AT&T LG G2, which unlike the international version, did not have expandable storage or replaceable battery.
I thought both would become issues, but they never were.
It's been almost two years since I got the G2, and no issues with having not enough memory. Phone hasn't died on me either.
The 2550mAH battery does worry me though a bit. Ultra-Power Saving mode should solve this issue when needed.

I think there's a Motorola phone coming out that's advertising a 2 day battery. I may just go with that. I can't get LinuxOnAndroid to work on my S5 and the battery kills me. I think if I didn't have knox to worry about and I could make it through the day without charging I'd be very satisfied with just that.

Sony actually I think. Anyway I just read that the Galaxy S6 can get 4hr worth of charge off just 10min charging. That makes life a little better.
So I just backed the NexDock 2 on Kickstarter. The experience with DeX and LoD has been great as far as software goes, the Sentio Superbook not so good though. Looking at the options I think the HP dock sounds very finicky, although good if it works for you and the Mirabook I do not trust. Nex computing have at least delivered a product in the past and this version is now fully funded. Hopefully I will get it this year and I will report back when I do.
you can just get an Anker adapter!!!

What screen resolution is the Anker adapter you have in mind? Does it have backlit keys? What battery life?
Hello,
I use a note 9 with a Nexdock 2 with android 10, it's great, I've been using it while on the road, with the right tools I find it very efficient. I wonder if there a utility out there for virtual screen on DEX
Cheers,
Philippe

My Nexdock came three weeks ago and since then I've put it through its paces with a Note9 Mate 10 Pro and even with a Fire Stick. It has worked with zero issues and now my Note9 is my main computing device. It’s a pity that Android 10 dropped 2 days before the Nexdock arrived meaning Linux on Dex went away.
Good Stuff
For the money the hardware is pretty solid. It adds useful ports like 3.5mm headphone, full SD card, USB C and USB A.
Decent 1080p screen, which is bright enough indoors. I live in the rainy north of England so it would be OK outside for me, I’m not sure about direct sunlight though.
The keyboard has good travel and is backlit and the trackpad is big.
It charges your phone as you use it so that after an intensive couple of hours use you finish at 100%. Nice.
It comes with all the wires and leads you could possibly want to connect a variety of devices. The PD charger is good quality and pumps out 65W (from memory it is 65W, I’m noth checking).
Not so good
Although the trackpad is big it isn’t as nice as on my Windows laptop (which cost many times more than the Nexdock btw). It is useable, just not great. I tend to use a Bluetooth mouse for all prolonged sessions with the Nexdock. But I do that with my Windows laptop as well.
Battery life is about 5 hours. Decide yourself if that’s OK, I wanted more. But it is charging your phone as well.
It is heavier than I was expecting.
The USB C cable supplied to connect your phone is quite thick, braided and very stiff. I didn’t like it so replaced it with a flat, flexible cable. Make sure that if you do this you get the right type as not all cables will work. Mine is Thunderbolt 3 compatible.
I got a Mountie clip to attach the phone to the Nexdock screen. It seems the best solution as to where to put your phone.
Speakers and headphones are better on the Note9 than the Nexdock.
All in all I am super pleased with the Nexdock. It is makes my Note9 very productive and I rarely turn to my Windows machine now as DEX can do just about everything. Having access to all your files on the phone and always being connected to LTE is great when you are out and about. I have a Microsoft 365 account so all the Office apps work for me. I can recommend Yandex Browser as the best browsing solution as you can set it to always open the desktop site. Chrome (which I don’t use) and Firefox (my main browser everywhere) are OK but do have compatibility problems with some websites.
I can recommend the Nexdock2. And best of all when you get a new DEX compatible phone your laptop gets an upgrade. Huawei Easy Project is OK (but wither Huawei?), LG are getting in on the desktop mode game and Google may make it Android wide – these are exciting days for those of us who want to make more use of our phones. A Note9 and Nexdock2 is a definite replacement to a Chromebook and way more powerful than most.
I have the nexdock 2 as well. Since there are no official forums for the device, I will ask my question here.
Is it possible for an android device to send function keys commands over USB-c? I would like to implement a simple app or tasker to automatically adjust nexdock screen brightness via the phone's light sensor. Possibly other functions if this is possible.

Hello everyone,
I hope this was the correct place to post this; if not, please feel free to move it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955W) which worked perfectly fine one day, then the next the screen no longer shows any display at all. The strange thing is: the phone still functions properly. It still rings when I receive a call and still vibrates when it receives messages, however the screen itself remains black and does not respond to any touch at all. According to the internet, this is often known as the "Black Screen of death".
Troubleshooting attempted:
- I have performed a soft reset multiple times by pressing and holding the Power + Volume Down buttons which forces a restart. The phone does indeed restart - I can feel the start up vibration and the blue LED light does remain on while it powers on. I then feel all my messages arriving to the phone however at no point do I see an image.
-I have let the battery die completely, then charged it back up to 100%. Unfortunately, after powering on the phone once more, there is still no display.
-I have taken the phone to a local technician who informed me that the screen is not broken and the back lighting appears to have no issues. He believes it may be a deeper issue with the phone.
*I should also mention that the phone has no physical damage to it - it hasn't been dropped, no water damage, etc.
At the very least, I would like to unlock the phone to plug it into my PC and back up my photos, documents, etc. Unfortunately, as the phone died and was powered on fresh, I cannot unlock the phone via my voice or fingerprint as the first unlock Android insists must be the pin. I attempted Google's Find my Phone but it only allows for a remote factory reset. I tried Samsung's Find my Phone which allows remote unlock however it apparently needs to be enabled on the phone settings before it can be used (Who'd have known that before encountering the need to do this...).
I am unsure what to do. Can the phone be repaired? Can I at the very least unlock it without using the screen to reach it's storage and backup my files? Please help
Was the phone dropped in any way? Sounds like the LCD is not displaying and the digitizer isn't registering your touch. Take a decent flashlight and shine it onto the screen and look for minor cracks. If cracked in any way I would look into replacing the screen assembly

Thanks for the reply! I'll take a flashlight when I get home from work today to take a look. Assuming there may be a crack somewhere, do you know of any way to unlock it and access the mass storage to collect my pictures/documents?
Edit: Even if there's a third party software that can do this? I'm willing to pay if necessary. I've tried "Dr. Fone" but the software is outdated and does not support the S8+ model. I should add I don't believe USB Debugging Option is on
If USB debugging was enabled you could use ADB to potentially recover the files. Pressuming you're already connected the Android to the devive it'll have autborized the RSA key.
You could also use an OTG cable to plug in a mouse, but since you cannot see the display at all, that won't be very helpful.
I found this software with a quick Google search. Haven't used it myself.

Thank you again for your assistance - I will download that program tonight and let you know how it goes. Also - do you think an OTG cable with both an HDMI port and a USB port would work? I'm hoping that I could use the HDMI port to view the screen on a monitor and hopefully use the mouse to unlock the phone that way. I've tried a USB-C to VGA cable but that doesn't seem to show anything on the monitor. I'm not sure if that's because the lock screen remains locked...not sure. I will keep you updated.

Where do you get such an adapter? I've seen micro to HDMI. But I've never seen two options (mouse & hdmi ) on one OTG adapter. That would be really nice

Hmm...looks like that guide requires USB Debugging to be enabled which, unfortunately, I do not believe it is. I also have stock firmware so no custom recovery installed either. Due to the snapdragon chip, I wasn't able to root my phone so I couldn't do all that (at the time)

Also - that adapter is right here: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07QXW8KYW/ref=pe_3034960_236394800_TE_dp_i1
I've already ordered it hoping it can do something...but the USB-C - VGA didnt work so I'm not feeling too optimistic about that.
Now that is nifty!!
Let me know if that works out. The amazon listing states that it works for S8/S8+ and the seller is being responsive to the reviewers and offering support. Only 64 reviews in total on the product but it seems promising. Fingers crossed for you ?

Thank you so much for all your help - I received the above linked adapter and attempted it but unfortunately it did not work. We tested it with another Samsung Galaxy S8 device and it worked perfectly. This leads me to believe it isn't just my screen that is not working...perhaps the issue is a bit deeper than that. But the adapter itself worked great!
I installed the software you linked however it was just the Dr. Fone application which I mentioned in my opening post that it did not support the S8 or S8+ model. It only have the option to Factory Reset my phone which unfortunately defeats the purpose. I'm unsure if I have any options left...I've researched for hours. Any final thoughts or ideas would be appreciated
Thanks again for your assistance so far, you're the only one who's attempted to help.
