Hopefully they'll support it well beyond, but frankly this sd845 will be supported for a good while - with so many F1s sold they'll be getting custom ROM action for 5 years yet

I'm talking about custom firmware - not official.
The Nexus 4, released 6 years ago is still going strong with new Oreo builds being launched
It's all down to community support

Honor 8 development?

I'm wondering what is up with the development scene on this phone. I don't want to be one of those guys who is always being impatient about when a rom is coming out or whatever but just curious.
Have the sources been released for new kernels and ROMS but no one is working on this phone or are we still waiting for a proper source for devs to work on?
tbh the stock firmware, rooted with the material theme is pretty killer. im sure in time we will get aosp based roms. its worth the buy. if your a crack flasher the only devices i can recommend is a nexus 5x or 6p.

You are waiting for a proper developer, not for a proper source.
If you checked older Huawei devices forums on xda you'll find it going the same way with almost same developers, I have honor 7 and most of what we got is emui roms with few tweaks and kangvip settings. I think this is the best we will get for a while.
You should check how other devices development is going because I don't think honor 8 will be any different.

Well if a proper developer shows up, I'm willing to provide support (non-monetary)
With my limited knowledge I don't feel confident starting a project like this.
I guess EMUI rom with a few tweaks is what I would start with. Better than nothing.

Nice! Seems promising. Would this do anything for the Honor 8? The P9 and Honor 8 aren't exactly very different in terms of SoC, the 955 is basically an overclocked 950.

I'm pretty sure the HiSilicon Kirin 950 is the problem as most developers work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon
MediaTek phone's get the same treatment, very little development aside from modified stock roms

Yea! I will definitely take stock rooted, than no root at all. Patience...it will come!
Tbh this the first device I actually don't miss custom Roms. I mean I wouldn't mind a custom kernel and ambient display but it's almost perfect as in. Not a fan of cm but I'd be for a pure Nexus type from. The axon 7 has the same issues with virtually no development. This phone smokes that one in terms of fluidity out of the box.
The question is what development. Usually it means improvements.
But Huawei is just doing a fine job on improving other device´s ROM´s and H8 will not be an exception.
This phone is like a few months old. It takes more or less a year to have a solid development.

If it has not already been done is protest to Huawei & Honor to release all materials for the Android community to develop their devices. If this has already been done we need a public link where we all can sign up and address such matters. A public Web page, while He Huawei Honor are making great sales it would seem their not to bothered in helping the free development of their devices...

It has been already done. We made a formal request to a Honor employee (because of the Honor Hub) and we just received instructions for compiling the kernel. Don't expect them to release anything, this isn't the first time, it happens with all of their phones.

Xiaomi support length and quality.

So I was thinking about buying this phone but since dev support isn't that high I was wondering how long does xiaomi support their phones and how often, in case no custom roms are being made?
I have heard mixed statements.

Check the age of these suspended devices to get an idea.
Mi 2 was released in August 2012.
It was over 5 years old when suspended last fall, I believe the oldest.

Android Q will be the last official update for OP6 ?

Since OP6 is launching with oreo on board and Android P beta is already available for OP6 does that mean that the next major android version will be the last update for the OP6 as OEM like to follow 2 major upgrades for their flagships ?

What about S, T etc.? Or am I missing something?
I think that support for a phone depends on its popularity, the manufacturers do not follow strict guidelines, I mean, they respect their promises but they may extend support if a product is very popular and has a very large user base. And I predict that the OP6 will be very popular because it doesn't have obvious shortcomings, it looks to be ticking all the essential boxes.

My question was especially if there are plans after Android R or if Google already mentioned something that it will stop. I thought I maybe missed something (also looking at Fuchsia).
I don't get why people worry SO much about what versions of android a device will get as long as it gets solid security updates for at least a year after release. If the phone is very good already, would it be such torture to keep living with it the way it is? Don't think so.

It wouldn't be torture, but it would be nice to think you can use the phone for a few years and be running the latest and greatest software on it, without the need for upgrading the phone to the newest model.
So, the phone is just released and we're already talking about his its end of support?
if not there will always be project trebble roms for it .
Here's the official Software Support outline from OnePlus
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-software-maintenance-schedule.862347/
So two years means Android Q for sure but maybe not Android R .
One Plus 6 was released in about April 2018, Pie comes out is released in September
April 2019 One Plus 7??? then Android Q in about September.
The One Plus 6 would be about a year and a half old.
April 2020 One Plus 8 ???? then Android R in September but then the One Plus 6 would be 2 and a half .... may not see Android R
I can live with that replacing a cell phone every two years is not unreasonable.
What bother me about software cycles is I know this is all arbitrary and is done so we would want to buy new phones.
Meanwhile if I wanted to root, I am sure my One Plus 6 will work with third party ROMs "download them from XDA" many years after OnePlus abandons my device.
It will receive Android R
Op6 will be updated to Android R as op3/3t launched with marshmallow and officially will be updated to Android pie as confirmed by OnePlus...Op 6 n Op6t(already launched on pie.. so definitely Android R) will receive Android R

When will The oneplus 6 receive Android P stable version

I've searched for this everywhere.. but haven't find an answer.
What will happen to the oneplus 6 and the other unpixel devices that support P beta, when the development ends and google releases the public version ?
Will it be instantly updated alongside the pixel devices ?
isnt the whole purpose of treble to make the updates easily available, the rest is up to manufacturers
Android P will be in Beta till the Pixel 3 is released - normally November.
One would assume that a stable kernel and OS will be available for OnePlus to use around that time (maybe as late as Jan 2019 depending on OnePlus's resources). Be patient. If you are apart of the P beta program then get used to the issues associated with beta software

No, it's supposed to get it much quicker then other OEMs if a phone is part of Project Treble. The Google Pixel phones will ALWAYS be the first to get it as it's made for the Pixel line... the OEMs like OnePlus will get it sonner then most and it's just much easier to get it to the phones. So expect it roughly a month or so maybe 2 after it's released on the Pixel line.

Lol. People will never be happy... Whaaaa? No official P at the same time with Pixel 3? Feel blessed that you have Project Treble. Before Treble, OEMs was getting source code only after the final version was released. That was the point when OEMs could start working on their betas. Or to put it on other words: first betas late November (in the best scenario) and final release February, March. Now we have betas in May-June and people are still crying lol.

I understand perfectly... Google will never allow another device to have the newest Android version before the pixel line and once it's out on the pixels, they will release it to the other pens when they choose, which likely will be a bit after it's on the pixels for a bit. It's just the way it is, treble or not.

100% agree with this! If you want the latest and greatest first, then Pixel phones are the best options. For me, the latest security updates are the most important thing - any phone manufacturer that doesn't release these on time is dead to me (Huawei is the worst).. I think what OnePlus is doing is better than the average, so if you don't like it, move along..

It's available as a beta.. they're already in the process of customizing it... And that's a first for android and google.. and that's why in my opinion it should be available for the beta supported devices much faster than previous iterations, I Mean..... What's the point of the beta then ?

Z6 is out for a very short time, not even released on many markets. I think it's gonna have good ROM scene as Asus sent the phones to Arnova, LineageOS devs and others.

Yep, I've heard about that sometime ago... But till now, I don't see that the support has increased.
I can't talk about Z6 in particular, but lack of Roms for many devices is one massive problem these days. In the past we had a dozen of popular devices on the market and everyone was developing Roms and keep them updated. Today we have hundreds of different devices available, so it's nearly impossible to develop Roms and keep them updated to most of the devices.
I wish it was like 5/10 years ago when we had no problems at all deciding which device we should buy and had a lot of available Roms for them.
Support for the Zenfone 6 is coming as Asus is changing their politics towards custom development. It will come, just let's encourage the devs!
There's a rom just released
