So I was thinking about buying this phone but since dev support isn't that high I was wondering how long does xiaomi support their phones and how often, in case no custom roms are being made?
I have heard mixed statements.
Thx in advance.
Actually, xiaomi support for mi note 3 is very poor

I don't completely follow.
It's very bad I should say. There's no global dev rom and stable one is stuck with 9.1. Chinese one got 9.5.
You people really know how to kill my mood but thanks for the input.

they usually support their phones for many years, so we should be fine, and Oreo will be out this week
also Open Source support should be good also
Check the age of these suspended devices to get an idea.
Mi 2 was released in August 2012.
It was over 5 years old when suspended last fall, I believe the oldest.
Update Schedule Adjustment of MIUI 9 China Developer ROM
Nov-10-2017
http://en.miui.com/thread-1056304-1-1.html
. . . to ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of 10 devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc.
MIUI 9 China Developer ROM (closed beta and public beta)
Starting from November 16th, 2017, update for MIUI 9 China Developer ROM of the following ten devices, namely Mi 2, Mi 3, Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Mi Pad, Redmi 1, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2A, Redmi Note 1, will be suspended, both closed beta and public beta.
MIUI 9 China Stable ROM
We will provide MIUI 9 China Stable ROM for users of above devices (Redmi 1 excluded) . MIUI Stable ROM 9.1 and MIUI Stable ROM 9.2 will be released in the future to help users enjoy the lightning last MIUI 9. The flashing method will be provided later. Please stay tuned to the forum. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Its a complete mess.... this last 9.3 Xiaomi.eu for instance, is bugs plus bugs...like each rom is worse than the before
Seriously thinking sell this phone and return to my old 4 years Oppo Find 7. Even in camera is almost the same....

I'm running Xiaomi.eu weekly 8.2.1 on all my 3 Xiaomi phones, and they all run very well.
You have to pick and choose, and wait for it . . . about once a month a good weekly appears I think.
The stables do not seem to be very good in general.

Where did you get this info?
Also as far as I can see there won't be much support.
I miss my LG G2. It still gets official LOS and more.

Where ?, just check every Mi device on xda much love & support
and as for Miui, they keep updating their Ui for older devices, but they dont update the base tho, so our phone might only get O, then future updates will be newer Miui's only, that what i got from following Miui devs around
Yep...i use Stable, and except notifications and the stupid notifications theme error, everything runs smmotly...
I should go to OP5T...at least they have lot of roms to play.....
P.S. - Do not update yours!

Right, releasing a global ROM before the device is officially sold globally is indeed a mistake. Now they can only be silent on those crying global ROM update requests in the forum to keep the engineers healthy mentally.

This. I'm kinda upset to see those crying for Oreo, while in devices who already got it, there are those crying because it's so buggy. They want the most impossible combination that money can't buy no matter how much: fast and stable release.
yep.
Just want ringtones ad notifications work, and i will stop updates, unless a nice AOSP rom appears with google camera and MIU to jump....
I am running xiaomi.eu 9.5 and i am very happy!

I'm kind of surprised that there isn't any builds or projects going seeing as how Huawei actually released the sources. For many less than popular phones that I've had in the past, not having source codes and drivers was usually the problem. Sadly on this phone, the problem is that so very few people especially devs know about it's excellence Our best and pretty much only hope is something getting ported over from the OpenKirin projects on other Kirin powered phones.
I do agree with the others though that the stock software on this phone is very good, fast, lasts long and isn't obnoxiously skinned liked TouchWiz and LG phones. So it's not the end of the world. I do hope the Mate 10 takes of though seeing as how great the 9 was, I'm all over a 10 when it drops relatively soon!!! :fingers-crossed:

I think this is the problem, HM9 have a great stock ROM, and it is hard to devs to bring something better without compromises.
I tried Mi Mix last few days with different ROMS, and now I'm coming back to HM9 because, it is a better phone overall, the software is very fast and responsive and have little tweaks that are usefull, such as blocking internet access per app (wifi and carrier). The camera software is also very good in my opinion.
I just read that there's a new Reserrection Remix (aosp based rom) for Honor 9. It's the same Kirin 960 chipset.
From https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/rom-t3654876
Kernel GPLv2 compliant : This custom ROM, uses a stock EMUI 5.1 (B130) kernel image !
Very sad that there is no Lineage OS, even that now the kernel source is available.
I just bought a Mate 9 L29 second hand (can't take it back now) and I am very disappointed by that damn ugly (G)UI called EMUI 5.1.
I had a EMUI 4 device in the past and I made a MIUI like theme for it combining icons and existing themes. Then I had some Xiaomi devices, and MIUI really is eye candy.
Seeing the damn ugly EMUI GUI (and all those bull**** themes available) I wish I could have an AOSP or Lineage ROM for it.
The hardware is quite good. Display is OK, SoC is kinda fast and the sound system sounds nice.
So, f**** Huawei for messing up that bad regarding the look and feel of EMUI 5(.1) - I had a look at EMUI 8 - it's damn ugly too.
Shame on the Huawei product design team in that case. They had some UI designer from Apple for EMUI 5 (she quit then), and
I wonder how things could have gone so damn wrong. Have a look at pure Android, MIUI or flyme OS or even ZUI or discontinued IUNI os, that is eye candy.
EMUI makes me wanna vomit.

Well, sell it or put a different launcher on the damn thing then, that's one good thing about Android, you're always free to change it. I don't like EMUI either so I run the pixel 2 launcher on mine. As far as lineage goes, unless a developer decides to pick it up you're sol, Huawei might have released the general source to the OS but there is a lot of closed source drivers for the hardware that is not released and unless those drivers are open sourced lineage is out of the question except for the individual developer

What exactly is the problem with the camera in the kernel source released by Huawei?
And how'd you get to know about this, did anyone try to compile the kernel.... or maybe even a rom?
I might try it, but first I want to know this piece of info, to get the picture completed
You can trust me, and if you don't. Just check my profile, I've even made Android 5.1.1 for the S1
So, please give me the needed details, and I might be starting tomorrow
:EDIT:
I have had a quick look, and it looks like the Mate 9 Pro and the Honor 9 uses the exact same rear camera setup (So, both camera's on the back )
I need a new phone and was looking at the mi a1 and the Mi note 3. I Decided that the mi note 3 is the best option for me. iThe ONLY problem is the lack of Global support. Do you think this is a big enough reason to not buy the mi note 3? Is v9.1.4.0 bad, or do you just want an update? What is the biggest problem with no update? is it just because its been so long, or are there actually problems with the Global Rom that was released?
any help would be great, and any suggestions for another Xiaomi device are welcome. Id love the Mi 6 but i think it is just a bit too expensive.
Thanks!
So far the most problematic issues is the lack of Band20, for LTE or 4G, some problems with notifications and ringtones...
Yes the suport is not big as A1 or a One Plus....
Apart that, is a great phone with lot of potential.

Hmmm... i actually live in Australia and dont need B20. The only band its missing for Australia is B28 but some service providers dont even use B28, so i think its not a big problem here. Do you think its a good phone to buy if i just stay on the Miui Global Rom?
Thanks
Yes we are waiting and hoping for official global room update, China room is getting updates and we have global developer leaked rom. Over all I think it is worth buying. Support is better on A1 but I think MN3 is better device. I have no regrets buying MN3 so far and I have it since December.

Eu ROMs have less gaps and is bit more "optimized" it have some small bags but nothing major.

In my short experience there is about one eu weekly per month that is good, and better than the stables.
I am currently running the eu weekly 8.2.1 on Mi Mix, Mi Max Prime, and Mi Note 3.
Just look at the % approved for each weekly after 3 - 4 days, and don't install any with approval < 90%.
Then of course if you are looking for particular things to be implemented, or bugs to be fixed, you have to dig more.
The eu ROMs are well debloated, which is very nice.
They are really just debloated versions of the official China developer ROMs, with tweaks that suit Europe / "Western" countries.
There is a list at the beginning of the thread for each weekly.
The main discussion/controversy has been on the difference in the notation systems between Xiaiomis official China and Global.

Thanks for the advice. I also posted in that whirlpool thread and a guy told me similar things as you.. hes running EU rom in australia and said it works great. Sounds like thats the best way to go.

Your welcome.
Some think Xiaomi.eu should start using the official Global ROMs as raw material instead of the official China roms because of the better notifications.
The notifications were not working correctly for some time apparently.
I have not paid much attention to that, as the notifications aren't so important for me.
It isnt about stable build or not it is about cooked google support or not since in china google apps are banned so they dont include them in roms and when you install them manually there might be some bugs like notification delay. Also you can turn off MIUI optimization and problem solved.

My bad, corrected "stable" to "Global" in my post.
There are apparently different systems for notifications in official Global and official China.
I haven't bothered to dig into that.
I bought this device but both the lack of global support and the screen to body ratio was unfortunate for me.
Of course I was aware of that this phone wasn't bezel-less but still..
The bad thing about this phone is the small community, I can't even install a google camera or twrp completely bug free.
Otherwise is a great phone, the bezels sure could be smaller, but the phone (blue) is gorgeous, has a nice camera, awesome performance, good screen, battery...

Regarding mi mix 2s android p preview, Does it mean my device will become like pixle and recieve OTA updates as soon as they come out? Android 8 then 9 then 10... Etc
Stable Android P will see the reintroduction of MIUI, they put too much development in MIUI to allow you to use pure Android P, just like all manufacturers do. it's a shame tho, i would love this phone with pure android

I'm not a religious person but amen brother!
The device really rocks even with the developer preview. I can't wait to have an aosp rom for this device! Coming from Nexus devices ever since I still love the look, smoothness and bloatware free android experience.
Maybe Google can force manufacturers to let people choose between stock android and their own UI. Chose at first startup and you're good to go!

it's not going to happen, bro. it's like Microsoft forcing everyone to use Edge instead of Firefox and Chrome. They paid license fee and the hardware manufacturers make money by all means necessary. GUI is one of those. I personally do not care about GUI, i had LG, HTC, Samsung and Sony phones. I choose best performing device on the market based on design, spec and camera. I use Smart Launcher on all of them and just delete/hide all bloatware. MI 2s is the one i like this year, i run preview on it for a month, it's keeps crashing and camera app lost all MI 2s advantages so i am back on MIUI Global now. All other developer ROMs i tried, including MIUI10 is just full of bugs. Depends what you want to use your prone for... i used it primarily for business, stable ROM is more important that new bells&whistles half of which doesn't work. I got preview for MIUI10 and it's far from even something usable on a daily basis.
I am sure we will get something closer to pure android soon, Xiaomi really making headlines by allowing all kinda testing on this phone, it's good marketing strategy. i like it, but from what i saw so far, Global 9.5.19.0 is the one for me
You're absolutely right about that!
They can't force the manufacturer to let people choose. Which is of course a bad thing and by that I mean to force them.
I tried the miui global ROM 9.5.15 and it's stable and working but it has too many restrictions for me. I just like the stock android and not this iOS plagiarized version.
I'll wait for the custom ROMs. I run lineageos on my Samsung note 10.1 2014 because the original firmware made the tablet unusable. Lags as hell and you can't even uninstall all this bloatware without root.
Nice to see different tastes, that's what's makes the development strive for new solutions. Which is obviously great! So everybody can choose what fits them best!
@barcode99 thanks, i guess there is no way but to wait for lineage OS rom

It's worth mentioning, the final 1/2 developer previews are actually pretty stable, I had a Xperia 3 that got the Nougat Dev Previews and Sony decided to stop with Dev Preview 5 and not release a stable version, but I used Dev Preview 5 as my daily driver and had 0 issues with it

until someone port MIUI camera app or release it standalone i would go with MIUI ROM, all camera ports i tried suck. That's pretty much the same problem for all manufacturers since camera hardware is differ from one to another
I'd also love pure android on the mix2s. But I guess miui is just the only kinda "downside" for this great device. And besides I think miui 10 is reaaally sexy, especially the multitasking!

Is this good news for any Android One phone, or Android One project, or is it a matter of manufacturers that build the phones, maybe this could have good effect on development of Android 10 for A2 Lite ?
Nokia always gave timely updates to their devices, this matter doesn't really have any effect on other androidone devices. Nokia also adds other features to their phones (they're all androidone afaik), like round ui, pixel blue accent color and cam2api. As far as updates go, xiaomi isn't that good with their androidone phones, so don't get your hopes up and get frustrated afterwards. I would love to have Android 10 soon but, I know it's not gonna happen. Cheers.
its strictly related to nokia, this. the fact that they will push it sooner then xiaomi means nothing to us. it all depends on Xiaomi when they will start working for it, and when will they release... nokia is known for being faster to update then xiaomi thats for sure. so just sit and wait
...or, you could install unofficial android 10, there is a good GSI version here on xda which works fairly well.

My brother is using a Nokia 7 plus and I had Android 9 weeks before him and even with security updates Nokia isn't faster all the time compared to Xiaomi.
I've never managed to get any kind of custom rom working through TWRP because of the kinstalldeviceopenerror.

Okay let me ask this, do you consider the Pie update we got as stable? Because I still think that we never got a stable build of Pie from Xiaomi. I can't even update to September update because it breaks the digitizer for me and I can't even use the screen properly. I have no idea how stable is Nokia's version of Pie but maybe you can enlighten us about that.

In my eyes our Android Pie is very stable. I never had to reboot my device due to system instability bugs. The worst one I ever had was the screen rotate flash bug. My battery backup after one year of usage is still superb, usually I get 7 hours of screentime within 5-6 days of usage. Most reported bugs appear to be on devices which had installed custom firmware and messed up vendor partitions.
The only thing I dislike on this device is the low headphone sound volume while using a European Union display language. I'm just using U.S. English to fix that.
I don't know about bugs in Nokia phones, my brother never told me about anything special and I can't check his phone because he's in England and I'm in Germany.
Any news for Android 10 update?

Nothing official, but I think q1/2020 would be a good guess.
Last year Mi A1 got the Android 9 update on the 23rd of december.
My guess is Mi A2 Lite will get Android 10 in late december.
Oneplus 8 and Oneplus 8 Pro gets new beta software... What with 8T? Why no beta realese yet?

Why would we get beta builds when we already have Android 11?
There is no beta yet.
Probably one in the pipeline...

Those are in official releases already. Betas are usually for updating an OS or in Samsung's case the UI. Stuff that takes massive recoding.
IMO this A11 ROM is an alpha build. OP should have released this phone with A10.

Our releases are already Beta lol... 8T is out there only 1 month, be patient, a lot of OTA will be available during the first year for add features/fixes/security your A11 rom
My 8T is running fine...however there appears to be a wide discrepancy between the various versions/builds that are out there in the wild! From my perspective Android 11 is a stable build on the 8T, and has continued to be so through 3 updates...but I can certainly understand how many, many people feel that what they currently have on their phones is a BETA, if not an Alpha build! So what is really going on here? How can my phone run great while so many others are riddled with bugs and we ALL supposedly have the same hardware (less the different RAM and Storage) and the SAME software, and yet have diametrically opposed experiences? What are we all missing here? The only thing I can point to is where these phones are actually being assembled. If my understanding is correct the one sold in India is actually manufactured, or assembled/built in India, and when you go to the OnePlus Community Forum you can read an ENDLESS stream of constant complaints from what I believe are mostly people from India! Is this the main problem here? Is the quality control lacking in India? Are the actual parts being used in India somehow sub-par in their quality? I'm not sure exactly what's going on here but if OnePLus intends to be able to continue selling phones in India, they better get their act together!
