Hey there,
if if receive a new email on my gmail adress the phone instantly gets it.
But when I read/archive the mail on my computer then the phone continues to notificate me about the mail on the phone for hours.. it only stops when I open Gmail on the phone..
I have this since I own this phone. And it is still there with Android 6.0. Ofc I already tried deleting cache+data of GMail and reinstalling the updates..
Have you tried using inbox app by google instead of Gmail? Far better app in my opinion

Anyone know how to get the old stock email app working on pixel? I've installed an old apk but as soon as I try and open it, it says to use Gmail and points me that way. Makes me feel like I'm using an iPhone.

I just got my phone set up yesterday. Are you saying there was a different default e-mail app on this phone at some point? Mine only came with the Gmail app. Seems strange to me to not have Gmail be the stock email app on a Google phone.

Wow. Thats too bad. Guess I'll have to wait for a custom rom to use it again. Its still in Cyanogenmod builds, maybe its in gapps. Anyhow, I really liked keeping it separate from gmail.
Yeah. You may be able to build it from source from CM but sounds like a pain.

Why not just download another email app. Like Outlook, that one works well with all email accounts.
I'd strongly recommend K9 as an email app. Been using that since my G1 and it's still outstanding!
K9 or blue mail works great, I've used k9 for a long time, just switched over to blue, very hard to decide which one is the keeper ?

These guys are not actually correct.
The "stock" email program STILL EXISTS, and in fact, is actually INSTALLED on Pixel devices from factory!
BUT, google has merged its UI into the GMAIL program.
So you have two options if you want to use the "stock" email program;
1) Set up your IMAP email account through the GMAIL program,
2) DISABLE the gmail program, and guess what happens? The "email" program launcher icon shows up in your launcher!
HOWEVER, it really is a much better idea to use k9mail instead. It is far more feature rich.

Neat, I didn't know that! Still gonna use K9 myself but that's pretty cool!
Aquamail would be my recommendation for a mail app. Easily the best and easiest to use of the six or eight that I tried...

That's a good find but unfortunately doesn't work for me. My mail server wont play nice with the Gmail app so I can't even get it configured. I still tried to disable Gmail but didn't see the stock email app. I then installed a stock email apk and it installed but still gives me the same screen saying that Gmail is the new everything app

Aquamail Pro is nice, arguably better than K9, although it was just acquired by MobiSystems so who knows how future updates are going to look. Large companies acquiring small, indie developer projects does not usually end well for the app.
Security-wise, Aquamail, K9 and Nine are about the only third-party apps I'd consider.
I know this thread is now almost 2 months old.
what I"m looking for is a mail app to keep my gmail separate from my 2 exchange emails - and it MUST integrate with a calendar widget.
I haven't found one that works best. I liked the old "Mail" app - I could left swipe to delete, right to options - all your reply, reply-all, forward options right at the top of each message, rather than the options dots.
Outlook won't get sucked into my Google Calendar.

Aquamail - I tried just about every top email app. Also needed it to support Calendar, works perfect. I use the paid version and can't imagine a more customizable Android email client. Absolutely outstanding. Extremely reliable too.
Use Nine for Exchange. I've been using it for years, best Android email client.

Yeah, definitely for Exchange. I still prefer K9 for IMAP (easy to have lots of aliases) but Nine is definitely where it's at for Exchange. Great integration to Calendar and more!
It seems that only the Lollipop branch of the stock email app 7.0-x is merged into Gmail. Earlier versions of the stock email app, targeted for KitKat like email app 6.3-x, are still working. I am on CM 11 and the fresh installed email app 6.3-1218562 seems functional and wants to be configured with an email account.
However, regarding security concerns it may be still better to use an alternative mail client like K9. I ask me now how that one performs on low-level phones with weak hardware. All these super-rich features of that nice K9 mailing app needs surely hardware power. I noticed a similar behavior also on more recent Gmail versions. These are far more hardware hungry then older ones. That's the reason why I like the stock email app, - it seems lightweight and fast.
MailDroid is my standard mail app, used it on many phones. But I'm having trouble using it on the Mate. When a message comes in the notification sound is cut off very quickly or doesn't sound at all.
The developer says the app works OK on the latest Android, but I think it might be related to the unusual Huawei chipset.
Is anyone else here using MailDroid?
I use it and it works just fin, NO notifications problems.

What settings are you using for Connection Management?
I'm using Stay Connected on WiFi, and Close Connection on mobile with check mail every three minutes. inc while sleeping. I've tried other settings but the problem stays the same.

I am having the same issue. Any resolution? I have tried different stock sounds as well as my own; all get cut off or play for a split second.
Still no fix here. I thought it might be due to the Mate's very strict battery saving. But I've tried all the settings without success.
I know MailDrid's tech support were looking into it - perhaps you could drop them an email?

I sent an email to the Dev. We'll see what happens. I am like you, love Maildroid and have used the paid version for years. I have MD on my Mate8 and I do not have this issue with the notification sounds.
It's a real pain only getting a short beep, always a danger of missing emails coming in.
It doesn't happen with the built-in Mail app, but that is nowhere near as good.
If you hear something, please come back here. I'll do the same.

I emailed to the address on the Maildog Pro page on Android Play. Got a reply to say they are working on it. If you didn't get a reply I would try again.
They do have a forum but it seems to be disfunctional.

Thanks. I sent a follow-up email, still no reply. What are you using in replacement in the meantime? I tried AquaMail - seems ok. Blue Mail, Outlook + myMail look nice, but not customizable.
I really need an app that is customizable where I can have multiple accounts, be able to specify Reply-To, etc
I'm using BlueMail at the moment. As you say it's not as flexible but at least you can hear when you get a message.

Try this... activate notifications in the Gmail app. Turn sounds + icon notifications off in Maildroid. Place a Maildroid widget on your Home Screen which shows the badge count of new emails. When Gmail sound-notifies, open via Maildroid. Once the message is read, the Gmail notification icon disappears from Notifications Bar.
PS... still no response from the dev from my 2 emails.
Thanks! I'll try that, and give the developer another email

Still no fix or response from dev, There have been (2) updates to the app since our last posts; none fix the issue.
Yes, I've been following it. I'm not at all sure that this is 100% a MailDroid fault. Some other email apps are affected, some aren't.
I gave up. I switched to AquaMail Pro. Very similar and highly customizable. $4.99. No notification/sound issues!
Hi guys im using stock mail app but I don't like that it synchronize gmail, yahoo and Hotmail every 15 minutes... Is there any mail app that synchronize "on time"?

I'm new to Honor and EMUI and i'm having trouble with push notifications with Gmail, specifically that it seems to be completely broken and I only know i've recieved email when i manually unlock my phone and check. I've been all through the settings pages of Gmail and EMUI to make sure notifications are on and that Gmail is allowed to run in the background but so far i've not found anything that fixes the issue. It also seems that Gmail is a system process rather than an app so Gmail often doesn't show up in the various app lists for controling battery management/optimisations etc. I'm on EMUI 5 on my UK spec phone if that matters.
Anyone come across this before?
Thanks
Do you have unlimited data enabled for Gmail? My phone had that problem
Nope, that was not enabled. I'll enable it and see what happens.

Yup, everything is up to date. There's doesn't seem to be any real logic to it either, sometimes an email notification will come straight through and then another email minutes later wont. I'm pretty sure it's doing for Facebook Messenger too.

Is your Play Services the latest version? Because it manages the GCM notifications that Gmail uses.

Actually, I haven't exempt it from optimization because Gmail doesn't even show up in the list, I think because it's seen as a system process rather than an app.

As the title goes, I'm having a hard time with this. I already disabled deep optimization and adaptive battery but to no avail.
I need it on my calendar app but it doesn't work. I want to disable the optimization of the calendar app but I can't find it on the list.
I tried using Google Keep and Ike but it will only work ONCE. After that, the notifications on events and reminders will not work anymore at all.
Please help me.
I badly need it because of my work.
Edit: I don't mind using custom rom if its the only solution.
Device: OnePlus 6 (A6000)

"Maybe" I can help...maybe. Are you using Google Calendar? If so did you know that you can setup Gmail to send you every morning (around 5 AM EST) what you have scheduled on your calendar? It uses my phone number which happens to be from a state in EST even though I live in CST. Oh well, such is life. I imagine it will send it to you at 5 AM your time.
Also, as you probably already know, you can setup push notifications, and or email alerts for scheduled items right from within your calendar.
Now then, as you mentioned, there is no entry for battery optimization in the "battery" settings...just like there isn't for Gmail.
However, if you go to settings>Apps & notifications>See all apps> Calendar - then tap on battery and make sure that "Background restriction" is turned off. Hope this helps. For instructions on how to have Gmail send you your calendar schedule each morning just Google it! Ironic isn't it?

Google calendar should work fine, with no optimisation or further changes
