I'm new to Honor and EMUI and i'm having trouble with push notifications with Gmail, specifically that it seems to be completely broken and I only know i've recieved email when i manually unlock my phone and check. I've been all through the settings pages of Gmail and EMUI to make sure notifications are on and that Gmail is allowed to run in the background but so far i've not found anything that fixes the issue. It also seems that Gmail is a system process rather than an app so Gmail often doesn't show up in the various app lists for controling battery management/optimisations etc. I'm on EMUI 5 on my UK spec phone if that matters.
Anyone come across this before?
Thanks
Do you have unlimited data enabled for Gmail? My phone had that problem
Nope, that was not enabled. I'll enable it and see what happens.
Is your Gmail app the latest version?
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
Yup, everything is up to date. There's doesn't seem to be any real logic to it either, sometimes an email notification will come straight through and then another email minutes later wont. I'm pretty sure it's doing for Facebook Messenger too.

Is your Play Services the latest version? Because it manages the GCM notifications that Gmail uses.

I've exempt Gmail from optimization, sync is all one, no data restrictions etc.
I definitely dont get notifications during deep sleep, they only came through this morning once i'd turned the screen on.

Actually, I haven't exempt it from optimization because Gmail doesn't even show up in the list, I think because it's seen as a system process rather than an app.

Hi, I have problems with whatsapp.
Often I lost my contacts and I need to sincronize it every time.
Any one have the same issue?
Having the same problem… it happens once every 2 days.
Anybody might have a solution?
Thanks
My p8 max was stolen, now I have another p8max, a new one, and I have the same problem.
Maybe it`s the huawei app that controls the application consumption;nI try to configure it, but the problem persisted.
i managed to solve the problem by doing a factory reset. then restoring
I have the same problem. I have to update my contacts sometimes. The App is protected and all permissions allowed.

I think it is the stock messaging app that does that if you use the third party messaging app you won't have that issue

I try this before with no luck.
I deleted, and installed again, and nothing.
It seam's that today I solved the problem by updating the app from the huawei market place.
Today I don't need to synchronize my contacts.
I will say you something on a few days.

I was having the same issue then I noticed when I received a text message my WhatsApp contacts would hide. I installed Google Messenger as default messaging app and it fixed the WhatsApp problem. I know its wierd but thats true.
Perfect two ways to fix the problem.
Just install true contacts from play store. Fix the WhatsApp contact issue.

Basically the stock contacts app is the one that cause this issue... so solution is :
- install any other contacts app (I'm using Contacts+ app)
- set the default calling or sms to that 3rd party app
Voila.. problem solved... at least for me..
Sorry Grillote, I have both updated WhatsApp from the Huawei App Store and installed Google Messenger, but the problem persists.
I'll try to install a third party contacts App, as some fellows have suggested.

No luck, with the last update, the problem persists.
So I been kinda frustrated with the stock email app.
I have 2 emails, a Gmail and a Outlook.
When you are in shared view you cannot just scroll down to load older emails, it goes to like latest 2 days max.
I can go in to each separate email and scroll down to load older emails, which is super slow.
Then they show up in shared/all view.
But when I close the app (shut it completely) it all goes back to default and it loads like the latest 2 days again.
Is this just how the default app behaves? Never seen such horrible feature lol.
I would prefer to use stock because of the icon etc and I do like the minimalist design.
side question: I guess there is no way to get a full month view in the default Calendar app? you know month with text like google calendar, samsung calendar etc?
This is probably how it behaves, I use Gmail app and I don't have issue seeing older mails from my gmail and non-gmail account

Gmail App is better than stock email app. Now we can configure it for our office mails too.
So it will be better to use Gmail app rather than using both apps.
And the problem you mentioned here won't be there in Gmail App. However it depends on your personal preferences.
Regarding your side question: Im also expecting this feature. Currently in weeky view, all the calendars such as FB calendar, Google calendar can be viewed at a single place which is differentiated by their background color.

MailDroid is my standard mail app, used it on many phones. But I'm having trouble using it on the Mate. When a message comes in the notification sound is cut off very quickly or doesn't sound at all.
The developer says the app works OK on the latest Android, but I think it might be related to the unusual Huawei chipset.
Is anyone else here using MailDroid?
I use it and it works just fin, NO notifications problems.

I am having the same issue. Any resolution? I have tried different stock sounds as well as my own; all get cut off or play for a split second.
Still no fix here. I thought it might be due to the Mate's very strict battery saving. But I've tried all the settings without success.
I know MailDrid's tech support were looking into it - perhaps you could drop them an email?

I sent an email to the Dev. We'll see what happens. I am like you, love Maildroid and have used the paid version for years. I have MD on my Mate8 and I do not have this issue with the notification sounds.
It's a real pain only getting a short beep, always a danger of missing emails coming in.
It doesn't happen with the built-in Mail app, but that is nowhere near as good.
If you hear something, please come back here. I'll do the same.

Thanks. I sent a follow-up email, still no reply. What are you using in replacement in the meantime? I tried AquaMail - seems ok. Blue Mail, Outlook + myMail look nice, but not customizable.
I really need an app that is customizable where I can have multiple accounts, be able to specify Reply-To, etc
I'm using BlueMail at the moment. As you say it's not as flexible but at least you can hear when you get a message.

Try this... activate notifications in the Gmail app. Turn sounds + icon notifications off in Maildroid. Place a Maildroid widget on your Home Screen which shows the badge count of new emails. When Gmail sound-notifies, open via Maildroid. Once the message is read, the Gmail notification icon disappears from Notifications Bar.
PS... still no response from the dev from my 2 emails.
Thanks! I'll try that, and give the developer another email

Yes, I've been following it. I'm not at all sure that this is 100% a MailDroid fault. Some other email apps are affected, some aren't.
I gave up. I switched to AquaMail Pro. Very similar and highly customizable. $4.99. No notification/sound issues!

I've noticed, that sent e-mail are not saved/moved (don't know which mechanism should be) into "Sent" folder. Well... they are, but they're just available from phone - there's no sign of e-mails on webmail or directly on desktop e-mail application (like Thunderbird or eM Client). Besides, I remember there's an auto BCC in the Settings menu that you can set to always auto BCC yourself...

I'm not the OP, but the stock mail app is just a portal to these various email servers. For some reason though, the stock app doesn't continue to store messages older than about a week and you have to search the email server to retrieve them. It's annoying, but it works.
I tried using the Gmail app, but it lacked some of the features I use in the stock app. I also tried inbox and Yahoo's own app but neither of them would connect to my work email account.
So just like the OP, I'm having some issues with the stock app but it works better for my needs than the others. If you're also using the stock app, please chime in with your experience.
