Warning: crashes/2nd screen dead after oreo (tmobile) - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

I knew I shouldn't have upgraded but here I am.
Apparently LG didn't take into account the second screen application is not compatible with oreo and as a result will REPEATEDLY CRASH (pops up every 3 seconds).
It should be noted that package Disabler is the admin on my phone so this might play a part in it.
The version of second screen on the phone is 7.0. I am not sure if this app somehow didn't get updated during the process or what.
I no longer have a second screen (something I've used a lot and gained accustomed to).
I disabled the second screen app with package Disabler but that actually made it worse initially. I had to pull the battery and restart. The phone doesn't repeatedly crash but now that I've disabled the second screen app if it is anything like the v10 I will have to restore to get my second screen back.
I am pissed quite frankly. Am I the only one experiencing this? I am thankful I was able to get back into my phone since the data on it is pretty important but I am pretty sad that the two features of the phone don't work anymore (my headphone port died after visiting the porcelain god)

Anyway to do this without twrp? i.e. Side loading with adb?

Wipe cache and dalvik without twrp? Nope. Have you tried a factory reset? Back up your data?
Edit: found this.
Turn the phone off
Make sure you have fastboot working on your computer
Press the power button on the phone and then hold down the volume down button until you see fastboot, then hit the volume up button.
Open a terminal window, and type the following
sudo su
fastboot erase cache
Seems you can clear /cache, but to clear /dalvik you'd need root

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I forgot I had secure boot enabled as a result when I unlocked fastboot it deleted everything.
Fortunately I had the important things saved elsewhere so I had to start all over.
I am up and running now with the second screen running again regardless.
Now I've got to get package disabler installed and disable bloat.

So problem solved? Close the thread??

Issues after 4.4.3 update

Hello guys
I just finished updating my rooted Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 and it went fine but I immidiately noticed some "problems" when I turned it on. The thing is that my touch screen is not as responsive as before 4.4.3 update. On 4.4.2 scrolling was flowy and smooth like on ice, but on 4.4.3 I got big delay (half cm of emptiness) on scrolling through gesture (apps, home or anything..) and, even worse, when I'm scrolling down my Contacts list it dials randomly due to a lagging. Is there any calibration to be done or that's it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
It doesn't sound normal. Mine is working just as smooth as it was on 4.4.2. Have you tried wiping the phone? Do a factory reset and see.

issues here
my battery went from 19% to 0 over night.... in airplane mode. previously, it would only use 3-4% overnight, esp with everything turned off. almost woke up late
also, im having a hard time answering phone calls. i slide to answer, it doesnt answer but its still ringing
I noticed that there is a bunch of different problems reported last two days and I have decided to wait for Google's response on all of this mess. But I must say that my phone is working better now and somehow it heals itself )) Maybe this update is about implementing some organic components

I'm having a lot of issues with my phone.. Seems like an sd card issue. Ant app that uses memory does not work properly... Even the camera does not load...
I'm going to do a factory reset... Any way to save all settings on stock?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I also got a big issue on 4.4.3. since the update i get sponataeuos signal dropouts especially when i travel by bus or train.
It seams the radio has problems by logging out at one cell and switch to an other cell. Also the reception/signal is very weak.
Someone noticed the same? or does anybody has a tip?
thanks in advance :good:

Go to settings > apps > locate google dialer and clear cache
For battery drain, install an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats (it's free demo version is available on XDA) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm
Observe your device for one day after complete charge (90+) and use it.
Using that app, you'll observe the apps/wakelocks which are causing unnecessary battery drain. Eliminate them or post screenshots here so that we can help you to solve battery drain issue.

First thing to do if something is broken after an OTA is factory reset to see if it is an OS bug or whether you have incompatible data and settings.
It sounds like it would be a pain to do, but you can easily backup with helium nowadays so it needn't be

Did you flash the userdata.img? If not, your data is still there and still possibly causing the issue.
GPS not Working
Has anyone else noticed if their GPS is working or not? I was trying to use mine last night and I can see that GPS connects and it brings up the map but then never navigates or even moves from the starting point on the map. Can someone let me know if this is a new problem??? I flashed the N5_4.4.3.zip file that someone pointed me to, as I had asked for a flashable zip file to update to 4.4.3 as I still have not gotten an ota notification from T-Mobile:confused
i have a question also,
what if i like the current mono toned google dialer?
when i get this update & it updates the dialer, is it possible to un-install the dialer update to revert back to the older dialer?

Note 5 won't respond to touches unless restarted

Hopefully someone can help me with this.
I am having an issue with my phone where the top left corner does not want to respond unless I restart the phone. This happens a completely random times and I am unable to pinpoint it. It all started the other day when the update came out. I have format my phone I have used Samsung smart switch to reinstall the OS and issue keeps coming back. I'm also having the same issue towards the bottom where are Google now application launcher is located. If you are using TouchWiz it is in the middle of the message app when I press the area it doesn't do anything unless I press to the right of it. I have turned on developer tools and selected show touches. I can see the touches and everything looks like it should work but the OS doesn't do anything. Once I reboot everything goes back to normal. When this happens I am unable to hit back on applications such as Gmail and I have to use a physical button to go back.
Phone is completely stock and had not been rooted.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks for your help
Admin can you please move to Q&A thread please. I realized I posted in the wrong spot.
This has also happened to me and I'm on a custom rom. Mind you, my screen was replaced not long ago because of stuck pixels, and I thought this could be problem with the new screen. Not sure what is happening, though.

I'm actually currently having this same exact problem. The thing that confused me was that it's the top left corner, no matter your screen orientation. Meaning it MUST be something OS related. But now I'm hearing Samsung Pay is the culprit? It's never caused this before until today...

Well, wasn't Samsung Pay. I had both disabled and the issue came up today. I tried to figure out which app it was but I couldn't figure it out. I went to my recent apps and forced closed each one but the left corner was still messed up. I couldn't get it back until I restarted.

It's an irritating problem, for sure, but not enough to go through all that. I'm just gonna wait it out for that Marshmallow update in January.
I'm having the same issue. I thought it was my phone and was about to contact tmobile about sending a replacement. Glad to know it's not just me. Looks like I'll just wait until the next update.
And I don't think it's Samsung Pay since I'm rooted and don't even have it installed

I had the same issue. I called tmobile and they were useless. Phone is stock and not rooted. Mine would happen and id reset the phone, it would be good for a few hours and then happened again. At first I thought it may be my case touching a part of the screen since the phone has such thin bezels. It wasn't the problem. I decided to do a factory reset and I've been good for 5 days now. I used Samsung pay before the reset and still use it now.

Yeah, they were useless for me too. I'm chatting with Samsung support via FB but they don't have any idea either. I've tried everything as well. I'm really out of options at this point. Sometimes when I clear everything from recent apps it starts working again but when I clear the same apps via force quit it doesn't work. I cant' figure out which app is causing it.
Samsung support is having me run my phone in safe mode for a few hours to see if the issues comes back. They're trying to see if it's a built in app or third party one.

New update

There was a new update today. The new version is N920VVRS2BPF2. Not sure what changed though.
I wouldn't download this yet guys/girls because it's looking like this is a security patch to stop us from downgrading from MM to Lollipop!! Once this has been accepted you can't even factory reset or it will render the phone useless!!
I don't know why people have an issue with Marshmallow. Runs flawlessly, I'm usually sitting at 1880MB of free space of RAM, no stuttering, looks and feels cleaner.

Not everyone's phone is the same that's why. Some people like Lollipop over Marshmallow and depending on how you use it and what apps you have on there are also a determining factor in how the rom runs.
Took this update earlier this morning, phone runs like a dream on mm. Starting to notice some slight slowdown with battery saver on. Might be time for a full wipe and reinstall. I did one with the first mm update but there's been like three now since then.

I accidently hit the install for this update. Ever since MM my battery life, screen on time, has been horrible (2.5-3.5 hours MAX). I've factory reset, wiped cache, tried the package disabler with extreme settings and it still is not right. I was thinking about going back to lollipop but if this update froze that I may dump this phone and look for another. that I can root.

That sucks dude!! I've figured out that if you factory reset *before* you accept any updates, the battery and phone will work much better! I'm not sure what you can do at this point except maybe try to Odin the stock Lollipop rom and see if it works cause maybe the other guy's phone was just a fluke! You have to enable OEM unlock first and enable adb in developer settings.

I'm on MM and did a reset last week. I could not sign in to the phone using my Google account for 24 hrs.
If you do a Google search you can find out about this new "security feature".
Also you can reboot the phone by holding down the volume down, then home, then power in that sequence for 10 seconds.

They've been doing it for quite a while.. It's supposed to be a security guard against people stealing your phone and factory resetting it immediately so they can use it. The simple way to stop this is to activate developer mode and enable OEM unlock and USB debugging! Most people who don't bother to read nothing should be happy that it's only 24 hours instead of the 72 (3 days) that it used to be! All they need to do is research before doing anything to their phones.

Yeah it basically buys you time to track it or wipe the phone and lock it down. It also gives you time to change your password just in case. If people don't want it they can disable it as I said and you can enable it again later if you choose to. I don't see how it's going to hurt anyone so long as they read and learn about their phone before doing anything to it.

Personal experience several times! Either it's on or off and the carrier can even hide the option so you don't even know it's there. Personally I think it doesn't happen when you're somewhere you normally use your phone but if you go to say another state it's going to know and activate it.
I've reset an lg g2 tons of times flashing it, s4 multiple times and my note 5 twice and I've never had to wait ever. Could it be because I use 2 step authentication?

This is totally false. I just upgraded my wife's Note 5 and then downgraded back to KK. All that is required is a factory data reset after the downgrade. You can do this by holding down the volume up, home and power buttons for 10 seconds. The phone will reboot into recovery and then you can reset and be on your way. Just keep your Google account and password handy if needed.

No it is the two buttons sitting next to the fingerprint scanner, "back" and what the oter one is called...
Now and then they stop responding, about once every 2-3 days, i then have to reboot the phone for them to woek again, leading me to think it is something firmware related...
The phone have been acting this way since i bougt it, and remain still with latest firmware update, so it is nothing new to me, just annoying...
The first thing to try would be a factory reset and clearing the system cache.

return and get a new one if possible, not worth tinkering with it if it did that out of the box.
you probably can fix it but why would you if its done it since day one? id return and get a new one
if returning isnt an option, you can try and factory reset maybe even wipe cache in erecovery first?
but in all instances id return

Anyone else had unexpected restarts?

I've had three unexpected restarts in the last 5 days, two of them when I wasn't actually using the phone (one just after I put it on charge).
ISTR this happening in the early days of the HTC 10 or U11, but it went away after an update.
What software version do you have?
Any apps that might be the cause?
I have the US unlocked running .617 and haven't had any issues at all so far.

I'm UK, unlocked, on 1.15.401.2.
Can't think of any apps that would cause a problem (such as?), and it's stock, not rooted.
Luckily, it's very fast to boot up, so not a major problem.
Can you try figuring out a pattern? See if it might be caused by something you're overlooking.
Maybe try pulling log files see what happen before it crashed. Adb tools from Google have logcat and a program I forget what it's called that lets you see all kinds of information from the device when connected.

Wait you really got version number 1.15.401.2!?!?
As far as I know, and see on my device retail software should be on 1.15.401.4!!

Theres a thread that has RUU posted on a Google spreadsheet.
It has 401.4 as a flashable zip. If you really do have 401 either try checking for an OTA update. Or down the zip from that thread. Backup all your data and flash the 401.4 using an SD card or OTG.
Maybe whatever issues you're having is caused by a bug that HTC fixed in . 4

I'm running exactly the same apps in the same way as on my U11.
I did look at Logcat, but frankly I can't make head or tail of it. I'm not familiar with Android internals - I was a C++ & Java developer until 10 years ago, but that was on corporate financial software

Heh - I just checked again, and it's showing 1.15.401.4.
It did restart last night, but unless it's stopped notifying of system updates, I guess I have to apologise for making a typo... (is there an easy way to check when the last update occurred?)
Anyhoo, HTC support are now following their script on it via email - getting me to run the diagnostics.

So you're running the retail version just as I am. Got the device for two weeks now and never had any problems regarding restarts. Let's hope this little glitch will be fixed with the upcoming OTA update. Shouldn't be long till it hits actually.

Yeah; I'm not too bothered really.
HTC support sent instructions to run the diagnostics for the charger confused, and the battery (which doesn't appear on the diagnostics menu!). They also asked me to "press on Volume up key + Power on/off Key holding them together for at least a minute" which doesn't work with the U12+ haptic keys... They also asked me to run it in safe mode for a day to see if an app is causing the problem; I can see the idea, but the phone is unusable in safe mode, so it's not so easy. I did ask whether they had a way to report the system logs, or other useful data after a crash/restart, but they just ignored the question.
I don't think I'm going to have much joy from them. If it only happens once a day or so, I can live with it.

In which country do you live? Can't see as I'm on XDA labs currently.

Did you know that if you press the corners of your phone, while pressing with another finger from the back, it acts like a power button press. Means, if it's in a pocket of a tight jeans and it press and hold the corner, it makes a force restart. That's what happens to me a lot. Got now a harder case to prevent this.
Edit: I use a WWE Unlocked HTC U12+. Latest firmware.

Mine doesn't do that - at levels of force I'm comfortable with applying. It has restarted a couple of times in my pocket, which I thought might be due to the sensitive power button, but it's also restarted a couple of times just sitting on a table.

What do you mean you can live with it?
Restarting everyday?
You are happy paying a **** load of money and happy to put up with daily restarts.
No one should put up with that kind of major problem

Maybe I should have said I can live with it until the next update - if it persists after that I'll want a replacement. So far it hasn't restarted while in use (and not at all yesterday), so it's not been a significant problem. YMMV.
But you're welcome to jump up and down on my behalf [emoji6]

I would definitely put the phone through intensive usage to make sure it doesn't restart unexpectedly. First of all if it is hardware issue no software update would fix that.

So far, no further problems for a couple of days, despite unusually high temperatures and heavier than normal usage.

Mine did it yesterday, but it was in my shorts pocket. They're mesh, so I think it was pressing the power button, or it was the corners power cycle. Never heard of that before. Where did you hear that?
