[SOLVED] Asking Experts for Solving Bootloop Nokia 8 - Nokia 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

So, I want to say that my Nokia 8 TA-1004 is having Bootloop. This happens very occasionally and randomly. It just attacks unexpected. I can't see what is the problem or what's the source of it. Thankfully, I have the logcat file. However, I do not understand what was the main cause. So please, I am asking the experts in here to help me identify the source of this error.
The Bootloop just boot like 4-5 times and then stopped Bootloop or sometimes just go straight to DOWNLOAD MODE and I had to restart manually. After that, i was able to gointo system like exploring like usual, and then it happens again. Sometimes not opening the app also happens. Repeat until you gets the nerve.
The phones status is rooted with magisk and unlocked bootloader but no twrp yet. Also, I am at 4.88B SP01 June,01 patch. If you are telling me that the root is the cause, then it is unlikely since it has been weeks since I had it rooted but the problem just came these recently.
Once again, I ask for the help of forumers here. I want to at least enjoy my phone that I love. I dont really want to sell the phone anymore.
Here's the link of logcat:
https://www16.zippyshare.com/v/2W0SVK8t/file.html
I promise. No viruses. Thank you

Hey, I suspect that this problem could be fixed by flashing original bootloader image.
I assume you have flashed an unsuitable image and I think you are using an unlocked bootloader, that's why you are facing this problem.

Do you mean flashing original Boot.img? As we know, to gain root, we need to flash patched boot.img with magisk. Do you mean this kind of issue? I notice the problem is in Android System. It says failed to load as data may corrupt. Google is also not responding and Google play services.
Unlocked Bootloader isnt the issue. But, I do think image is unsuitable. However, I have patched boot.img as the same as the version of Nokia. Is such thing still happen?

now do one thing. flash stock boot img (will break wifi), after that download official twrp and boot into it. then from twrp flash twrp zip file provided with official boot img. reboot to twrp and flash latest magisk beta. (you will have wifi working after this)
This way you will get root and stable system.. no need to flash patched boot img anymore..
Make sure to revert back to stock boot first before flashing twrp..

sumitinhome, I just did factory reset. The problem STILL HAPPENS. It means it wasn't any of the app but from the system or the boot.img itself perhaps.
With no way to enter the system, how do i get into the fastboot now? By pressing volume down + Power (That shows DOWNLOAD MODE)? Is that the fastboot? Then yet again, the only issue that I have is the exactly driver for Nokia 8. I found lots of drivers in the internet but I am quite confused which one is the real driver of Nokia 8 to be able to detect in fastboot and ADB. Do you have a driver installer?
Assuming if you will have given Nokia driver and I managed to get into fastboot mode by using hard key, do I type this command?
fastboot flash boot.img? Or is it wrong command?
Thank you and sorry if i ask too many questions.

1. download mode is fastboot mode.. no difference there.
2. unfortunately i dont have installer for drivers but you can find it if you browse nokia section in this forum.
3. you will need command 'fastboot flash boot_a boot.img' and 'fastboot flash boot_b boot.img' to flash stock boot img to your phone..
4. if you wish to install twrp then you will need to follow instructions from following thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-8/development/official-twrp-nb1-t3832232
Make sure to read the thread and comments carefully before doing anything.
Hope it helped.

Hey there, thanks for the fast respond. It greatly helps.
Alright, I am waiting for the driver. Also, I checked anywhere in the forum section of Nokia 8 but none of them have 00WW_4.88bSP01 version of stock boot.img which is 1st June 2018 patch.
Do you happen to have had it? Is it okay if i ask for it? Thank you.

Yes sumitinhome, thank you so much. Try make it one upload with the driver. All that and I will do the fastboot command asap..
Oh yeah, one verify question. When the bootloader is unlocked, updating the newest ROM after august will lock the bootloader again or not? Some say yes, some say no. A member name hikari stated no, we are unaffected. But, some say relock again. Which is true?

Ah ha, thank you very much. I just need one more requirement. The driver. Honestly, there are so many drivers for Nokia 8 and none of them seems to work with my device detection. There's also type F, M driver..... Seriously confusing.

@sumitinhome, you are awesome. I must say thank you for helping me. Phone is no longer in bootloop state. However, I may require just little more help. I have also installed TWRP and succeeded. The problem is that the WIFI breaks. I went ahead and installed Magisk using zip one like you mentioned the steps in installing TWRP. It still doesn't solve the WIFI problem. How could this be? (Do note that I did not use fastboot flash twrp.img. I use fastboot boot twrp.img instead)
I also have other questions. During MTP in TWRP, I saw the partition drive; The internal storage and USB-OTG as given in picture below. What is the second drive meaning?
Second question is why is Magisk manager only showing Installed version v17.1? And the button is just uninstalled. I recall there are other buttons and feature like Safety Net and advance settings.
Finally, I want to know how do we get into recovery mode without using ADB command everytime? I tried pressing Volume UP + Power. But, it didn't go into TWRP. It just goes normal reboot.
Thank you so much once again.

Do one thing.
Flash stock boot img again. and after that do the following
1) Full charge your phone.
2) Get a MicroSD card ( 8 or 16 GB )
3) Download this - https://mega.nz/#!mRZHDaJI!3KrT2F0ZE...KQux5EvPWVGI_4
4) Copy it to SDCARD from your PC.
5) Put the SD card in ur mobile.
6) Go to recovery
7) Select update, from SDCARD - start flashing by pressing power button.
This will get back wifi. after that you can update to latest august patch too if you want and then flash twrp.
And about that OTG thing, don't worry twrp is being updated it will be fixed very soon. People are working on it.

I see. Number 3 has Encryption. Also, before i can do this, i have a new problem. I was so stupid. I accidentally format everything including the system which leaves me NO OS. I should have just wipe data (factory reset). Not advanced wipe. Can I still install Stock rom (any version) with twrp? What do i do?

@sumitinhome, also I forgot to mention. SD Card and Internal storage is not detected in TWRP Mode. I checked in my PC. ADB Sideload is also fail. Is this the end of my phone fate?
EDITED: Never mind. I was using the obsolete TWRP Version. I updated to the latest one and SD Card and internal is detected in TWRP once again.

I accidentally removed Bootloader on OnePlus One and softbricked it......

I ****ed up badly and I have no idea what to do. Someone.. help me? I used TWRP, I updated to CM13 and yet didn't come with GApps so I flashed the GApps with another Zip file but it kept giving me, "Set up Wizard has stopped working". How do I get bootloader back on my OnePlus one??? My boyfriend got it from hardbrick to softbrick but I need my phone to work by the 9th. Please help me.........
Wtf?! Why do you think the bootloader is gone?
Reboot back to TWRP, wipe system + data and reflash cm13 + gapps.
DO NOT REBOOT between flashing cm13 and gapps.

I would strongly recommend going back to stock rom. This way you can ensure the device itself is not broken or damaged.
Since only fastboot can be entered you should download the CyanogenOS fastboot package from https://cyngn.com/support and flash it with the install script. Please note that cm-13.0-ZNH0EAS2JK-bacon-signed-fastboot-2d1a3b8dca.zip is the right pack to flash since no root comes with it.
You should download this file from https://cyngn.com/support cm-13.0-ZNH0EAS2JK-bacon-signed-fastboot-2d1a3b8dca.zip
and have Drivers installed, ADB,Fastboot (Android SDK)too.

Or Just let your Windows handle this.
Android SDK - you can download SDK manager(141MB) here and let him download platformtools only or download my attached rar file (2 MB), where is platform tools that u need.
Extract CM fastboot zip to your adb, fastboot folder (mine is: .....\sdk\platform-tools ), run your phone in download (fastboot mode), ofcourse connect it to pc .
Open CMD in that folder (Shift+Right click and open new cmd window here)
Check if its connected by running this command:
Code:
fastboot devices
if it show some device connected, then run these commands one by one:
Code:
fastboot flash aboot emmc_appsboot.mbn
fastboot flash LOGO logo.bin
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash rpm rpm.mbn
fastboot flash sbl1 sbl1.mbn
fastboot flash dbi sdi.mbn
fastboot flash oppostanvbk static_nvbk.bin
fastboot flash tz tz.mbn
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
U can download TWRP or some else recovery and flash it too.
After that u wont loose any internal data, so i would recommend you full wipe except internal storage and flash some new rom + gapps.

My boyfriend has tried every method possible. Even hard bricking it and then soft bricking it and then trying to recover everything. And it's just stuck on bootloop. Also.. I have tried to boot into bootloader and it only goes into fastboot mode and recovery. Nothing else. As if bootloader didn't exist at all. I'm very concerned and I'm freaking out...
Whatever he did, he did not hard brick it and then soft-bricked it afterwards.
If its hardbricked, you successfully turned it into a brick and there is no easy way to get it back.
I am 98% sure that the solution posted in post #10 works for you.
Instead of posting the same thing over and over, tell us what you tried so far and why it did not work.

What I did was flash CM13. It didn't come with CM13 GApps. I flashed that after I noticed it. I still had CM12.1 on my SD card. Or so I thought. I wiped it and found out that I didn't have CM12.1 on my SD card anymore.
I downloaded bacon toolkit because my OnePlus One was then stuck on bootloop. I hadn't done a thing to it. Didn't set up adb or anything. I couldn't. Kept getting a pop up (right after I closed it, it would pop up again. Over and over) "set up wizard has stopped working". I couldn't even open the settings without it harassing me. I restarted my phone and the pop up kept coming back up. Once I wiped the CM13, I went to look for CM12.1. When I didn't have it, I realized that I wasn't going to be able to use my phone die to bootloop for an hour.
I used the Bacom Toolkit. Downloaded ADB.exe and worked my way up. I imputed the information. 64 GB, 12.1 CM and then it went on to loading the information for the toolkit.
When it didn't recongize it, I had to keep launching the ADB.exe to get the Toolkit to read the phone. Finally about 12 minutes or so into it, I clicked on bootloop/softbrick option and it lead me to some other options. When I read carefully through them, I had clicked on these (in order)
"Wipe"
"Install from zip"
"Installed 12.1Yoga(something numbers ;-; I forgot the exact name, I'll see if I find it tomorrow)"
"Unzipped"
"Pushed"
"Full unroot"
"Lock eom"
I was stuck on CyanogenMod.
Then now follow the instructions from post #10 and everything will be fine.

How to update early TWRP withoput adb and spooling rom problem

I'd like to know how to update my TWRP from v 2.4.4.0 to a later version. This version doesn't seem to allow flashing of an img file on external sd card. I have tried without success on 2 computers to get windows to recognise this android, so I'm hoping there is another way. Eventually I'd like to install Katkiss,Gapps and SU on this android. At present it has no rom.
Secondly, I tried to install Cromi X and all goes well up until I reboot and it continually spools on the opening screen so I don't know what that is about but hoping with a later TWRP I may be able to set the partitioning better which may or may not be part of the cause.
Reboot recovery twrp.
Go to install.
Click on install image.
Search downloaded recovery.
Select recovery.
And install.
Done

There is no 'install image' on v2.4.4.0 and that version of TWRP does not seem to recognise .img files on the external sd card. On a later version of TWRP your solution would work.
If you want to flash the recovery in recovery it has to be inside a flashable zip (except for the latest versions).
You can use the Kang TWRP 2.8.x from post 2 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tra...overy-kang-twrp-tf700t-2-8-x-xarea51-t3049395
You can flash Katkiss with it no problem, and it supports the dock SD which the official TWRP does not do.
Somewhere there's also a thread where some dude keeps posting TWRP 3.x in a flashable zip, but I can't think of where right now.
That CROMi-X does not boot can have a number of reasons:
You did not format data before flashing the rom
You are on an outdated bootloader
Something is physically wrong with your emmc.
Your problem to get the tablet recognized in Windows is almost certainly a driver problem an you should get that fixed. At minimum it sucks not to have fastboot access to the tablet. And it easily could be lethal. For the tablet - not for you
Could also be a problem with a cheap knock-off replacement USB cable. If you are not using the original Asus cable that's worth investigating. And if you are using the original it may become worn. Mine is starting to allow a connection only in certain positions... Age....
Make sure the device drivers are installed and try the Google Universal Naked drivers. Minimal ADB and fastboot is an excellent tool that shimp208 still keeps current after all this time, and if none of those work try the 15 second adb installer if you are on Win 7 or earlier (just google it).
Hello my old friend. Well I have finally managed to get an adb connection and am going over to old posts of previous help you gave me with this device. Although the device is now recognised I can't get any commands to work e.g. fastboot devices simply returns me to the c:/adb prompt and adb reboot bootloader just takes the flashing underline symbol to the next line and nothing happens. I have hope that I will be able to get this working OK now I have adb access. How do I know if I am on an outdated bootloader? thanks

Boot into the bootloader and read the small script. The last bootloader for this tablet is 10.6.1.14.10.
Yes, that is the bootloader I have. Typing fastboot devices takes me back to the/adb prompt and then typing
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery <name-of-file>
I get a <waiting for device> but nothing happens.

Yeah, so you have a driver problem. This is nothing you have to do now. Just download the flashable zip of Kang TWRP and flash it in your current recovery.
But when you have some time to kill open Device Manager and connect and disconnect the cable to the tablet. It should give you SOME change in device manager. If it doesn't, reboot both tablet and PC and try again.
Then try a different cable.
Still nothing? This could take longer. Driver problems suck in Windows....
So - you got yourself another TF700? Had just too much fun getting Katkiss to work on the last one, eh?

I don't know what you mean here.... how do I 'flash it in my current recovery' I have v 2.4.4.0 and it doesn't see img files on external sd.

If you downloaded from the second link, the flashable zip, you will see a zip file, not an img file.
Just hit Install, select the zip and swipe the button. Reboot when the flash is finished
All good so far. Up to the wiping data bit before converting to f2fs but this guide is missing, not sure why. I recall it was only a short set of instructions: Once that is done follow this guide to convert internal data to f2fs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tran...p-2-8-t3073471. Can you recall that part? thanks
Got it, found it or rather another post of yours here: tf700/help/how-to-update-twrp-withoput-adb-t3437702/post68163144#post68163144 so did that and successfully installed Katkis, Gapps pico and SU....another beautiful TF700T purring...many thanks yet again...

Root + TWRP on Android 10 Post OTA?

I installed the Stable Android 10 on my GM1910 via TWRP, totally forgetting about maintaining root and TWRP.
So how do I bring back TWRP and root?
fastboot boot doesn't seem to work, I managed to pull the boot.img and patch it with Magisk from another device but flashing it through fastboot ends up in an endless bootanimation.
Could anyone help me? here's a link of the boot.img i pulled, it works if you flash it without magisk patching it.
Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O8lF1UDwwu0zT8ro5Q1gKKfdxF-HGPEW/view?usp=sharing
(Almost) exactly the same here. I tired flashing a patched boot.img, it actually boots - but magisk manager gets stuck on the splash screen and some apps, including chrome, won't start. Trying to boot TWRP results in the phone getting stuck on the "fastboot mode" screen.
My only solution would be to downgrade, root, keep the upgrade this time. But because my ISP is doing some maintenance work I don't have wifi - and restoring my phone through mobile data does not seem to work correctly.
EDIT: In fastboot, neither bootloader version nor baseband version are show, product name is "msmnile". Has this always been that way?
EDIT 2, solution:
I extracted the boot.img from the device, and patched it using magisk on the same phone:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-Gf-6iXSFuYT5xDR-mnLKANvkXUHal9e/view?usp=sharing
Run this command in fastboot so you know which is the CURRENT active slot :
Code:
fastboot getvar current-slot
Run this command so you can flash the correct slot :
Code:
fastboot flash boot_X magisk_patched.img
replace X with the a or b from the command before.
:good:

Hi sorry to hear that you got this problem and hopefully it gets fixed. I have another question: does that mean using TWRP to completely clean the device then installing Android 10 via zip will remove TWRP and fastboot everything? Does that mean after installing, everything will be refreshed like a box opened phone?

If you have an endless boot animation you might be trying to boot from the wrong slot, try using the fastboot set_active command to change slot, then restart

If the current slot is boot_a, i flash it in boot_b or am I supposed to flash on the one that isn't the current slot?

Either one should work if the rom and the rooted boot image is on it (If you are rooting). That's why you should install using TWRP, if you look in the reboot menu it will show you the active slot.

You are supposed to flash it in the one that IS the active one. Because you do want to root the slot that you'll be booting.

not everything, just twrp and root will be gone if you restarted without installing magisk to the inactive slot

Is that it?? If so. Then after reading this thread.. some of. You mentioned about boot. Img?? Patched?? What's that supposed to mean?? Sir??

Same.
I've read that Q/10 is different and you can't install TWRP like that anymore. Supposedly you need to use the MSM tool or the all-in-one tool but I've tried both of those and still can't boot to TWRP.

Hopefully there will be a solution. I had tried to update from Pie to Q10 while staying rooted and it didn't work. So I had to wipe the whole device and decided to wait for a smoother root method for my device. If you have any other ideas about rooting Q10 let me know. Thank you

Stuck at Fastboot booting when flashed img and also zip
Sent from my GM1911 using Tapatalk
I updated my phone to 10 last night, followed the same guide as I have for every other update but this time I lost root for some reason.
I still have TWRP recovery on there but it can't read internal storage so I can't flash Magisk.
I tried changing file system to ext 2 then back to 4 and then repairing it as I read elsewhere and this wiped the phone obviously but internal storage seemed to be working until I set the phone up again, downloaded Magisk, rebooted to recovery and I'm back where I started, internal storage showing as 0mb in TWRP.
Any ideas how to fix?

[Guide] Installing Blu_spark TWRP | Magisk 20.1 On Stable Oxygen OS 10

Hi there just incase someone else who had problems [like me]
who is hesitant or looking for a guide on how to install Blu_Spark TWRP and Root the device.
The guide below will work 99.9% of the time. just follow the instructions carefully
Necessary Files:
Install OnePlus 6 Driver
Install Fastboot Drivers
TWRP Image
Magisk 20.1
twrp-3.3.1-x_blu_spark_v9.107_op6
Stock boot image thanks [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=6994095" @Akhil701[/URL]
Step 1: [dont do this if you have installed ADB and Fastboot already]
Install Oneplus 6, ADB and Fastboot Drivers from the link above
* Reboot PC after installing
Step 2:
Put
Code:
Stock Boot Image [boot.img]
twrp-3.3.1-x_blu_spark_v9.107_op6.zip and
Magisk-v20.1.zip
on your internal storage
Also Put
Code:
twrp-3.3.1-11-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio.img
on your desktop
Step 3: Reboot device in fastboot/bootloader mode
Step 4: Connect Device to PC Via USB Cable
Step 5: On your desktop Press Shift Right Click then click the [Open Command Prompt Here]
Step 6: on the CMD Windows Type
Code:
fastboot devices
Press enter and see if your device shows up.
Step 7: type in the CMD Window
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp-3.3.1-11-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio.img
press enter then after that on your phone screen use volume up or down button to reboot to recovery
Step 8:
Once you have the TWRP Screen
flash the stock boot image [boot.img] in boot partition [DO NOT Reboot!]
now go back and flash the Blu_Spark TWRP and then reboot to recovery
Step 9: Rooting
Flash Magisk 20.1.zip then reboot to system.
Thats it! no data will be wiped as long as your bootloader is already unlocked.
thanks to
@Funk Wizard for the initial instruction on how to install twrp and root
 @eng.stk for the Blu_Spark TWRP
@mauronofrio for the initial TWRP Image
 @Akhil701 for the stock boot.img

im not sure about that also. im just hesitant to skip that step. it might break something. thats why i added that step on this guide
Thnx, this was a very easy walkthrough.
Only thing I want to say is that not everyone knows how to flash the 'boot.img' through TWRP. Maybe you can explain that in more detail.
no patched boot.img you need
1. connect your OP6 to PC
2. flash TWRP (from mauronofrio) by fastboot from PC
3. reboot from fastboot to recovery
4. in TWRP flash stock img OOS, don´t reboot
5. in TWRP flash TWRP (blu_spark 9.107)
6- reboot to TWRP to another slot
7. in TWRP flash Magisk 20.1
8. reboot to system
I have noticed this too, probably they have changed somehow the system, even fastboot boot doesn't work anymore....
I had to install magisk via boot.img patching
Functionally on OOS 10.0.1 OP6 ?
So I was unable to flash the new OTA through twrp running on my rooted OP6.
As such, I opted to install the new OTA through the "local install" option.
That worked great. Settings area all the same. Bootloader still unlocked (I double checked).
Drivers are all installed on my Windows 10 PC.
However, no matter what I attempt to flash from command prompt I always get:
FAILED (remote: unkown command)
Does anyone know of a solution yet?
I have been reinstalling drivers and rebooting my PC with no luck thus far.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Update:
Whelp now that it is upgraded to Android 10 (and was wiped of all data when I locked and then unlocked the bootloader again) it will not allow me to downgrade back to Andriod 9 through the local upgrade option and since I can not get fastboot to accept any commands I am stuck now in Andriod 10 without the ability to change anything at the moment.

BTW and since i'm already at it, if anyone has a Mac runniing 10.15 "Catalina" and fastboot is working from terminal, i'd like to learn how he/she's done it
just came to my mind to ask here since i have to use windows 10 under parallels desktop to fastboot flash my android stuff at the moment and of course that's just an "Emergency" choice for me, everyone using both platforms will understand

Does 10.0.1 still have the ability to do screen-off gestures for music? I like 10 but on my wife's 7t, either she didn't turn them on, our it didn't have them so I'm curious if there same thing is happening with this? I also noticed on her 7t, constant data problems when's switching from WiFi to data. Sometimes data won't come back and only a reboot solves. I know it's a bug on OOS 10 on 7t but wondering if it's a device specific bug or an Android 10 bug? Anyone having op6 issues with data not coming back when switching from WiFi?
WIFI problem solved!

While this technique certainly appears to have been researched. Running though the instructions has resulted in my device caught in a boot-loop. A pretty serious one too. I can no longer access the bootloader or recovery/
I fear the state my device is in is 'soft bricked/ I have no clue have to resolve this and without access to the bootloader I can't rollback anything.
Some friendly notes for Hsnmastoor:
You should re-format the post. Writing the instructions then at the end supply the links and file attachments in the order in which they should be run As it is, the instructions are confusing .

Still mad at myself for buying this phone (with MediaTek SOC) because of the lack of custom ROM support. Never had this issue before with any of my phones. If only i knew this before. The hardware of the phone is great, but the software makes it really frustrating to work with.
So i've tried a lot of things to either mod the original (Chinese) ROM so it's at least functional. And i have also tried multiple of these GSI ROM install methods. Everytime without succes.
I've tried your previous method with the 'GSI installer' and the one from this guide. Neither of them worked. (Boot loop). I have a feeling i run into trouble because (if i'm correct) the original ROM uses a 'super' partition and not a 'system' partition.
If i remember correctly the GSI installer couldn't continue because it couldn't find the system partition.
In this guide (for corvus) i figured i'd flash the system.img to my super partition. Of cource that doesn't work either. If only it was that simple.
Everytime it fails i have to flash back to a standard xiaomi ROM and start all over again. Because for some reason the TWRP backups also dont work for me.
So maybe i'm missing a step in the guide or i've already tried so much to mod my phone i've changed settings/partitions that shouldn't have been changed for this guide to work.
My bootloader is unlocked, i have/had TWRP 3.41 installed.
After a fail i flash back to the original ROM using Xiaomi ABD/Fastboot Tools (xiaomiABDFastbootTools.jar)
Any help would be appreciated!
I never had issue when I flashed the GSI from the crdroid guide did you make sure that you put the GSI installer.zip and the image file rename to system.img to the root internal storage??
Yes i did. It could also find the system.img file, but just wasn't able to flash it.
Can you tell mw what ROM you were flashing from?
