Hi,
I have to send my S8+ to the Samsung assistance by Amazon this month because I have the common focus problem (camera can't focus, tapping on it works again) and also sometimes my USB port "think" its wet but it isn't (and don't let me charge it also lol).
Also I need to repair my screen because it's broken.
The screen will be repaired from a third-party assistance so no problem I will pay for it.
The main question for me it's if the wet and the camera problems will get repaired for free for the warranty if o am rooted or if they will ask me some money. In that case I won't root it even if I need atm.
Let me know your opinion thanks!
If your Knox=1 so you're out of warranty
Some regions doesn't pay attention to knox if it's faulty hardware they will repair it for you without a problem and some regions are way too strict

I got my Transformer back from repair (took a while since I sent it for repair while I was in the US but came back to the UK before it was sent back...so had to get it shipped to the UK). The problem was a dead screen which they have fixed by replacing the screen.
However...upon inspection of the returned device I've noticed that the lens covering the camera has a lot of dust under the outer lens. The dilemma is whether or not I should call up Asus to get them to fix it because..;
a) Would it be complicated since I purchased it from the US and sent it for repair in the US? Or would this not matter to the UK repair centre?
b) I tried taking a picture and it doesn't seem to be obscuring the pictures too much...plus I don't think I will actually use the camera much since I have a better camera on my desire HD. So I could just live with it.
c) I could just clean it myself and save the weeks I'd have to wait for the service centre to repair and return it... but I'm a bit worried about cracking the bezel or leaving any indication that its been opened and therefore voiding my warranty for any future problems.
So what do people think? Is it worth sending in (again!) for such a minor problem....just live with it?...or try and clean it myself?
I'm quite apt at opening up devices (done many before) but am always wary about opening fairly new items/items still under warranty. If its simply the bottom screws and prying off the bezel with no 'void' stickers then I could do it myself...
Better send back since still under warranty .If not next time over warranty and need own money pay the repair cost.
Hi!
its been a month since my phone broke
planning to bring it to SSC this week but im not sure how much it will cost to fix it.. i know a lot of you guys out there already experience this kind of issue (broken internal memory, bootloops) and the only solution is to replace the motherboard, the warranty of my phone is not valid anymore so how much it will cost?
also, some people reported that their phone was refunded by samsung since our phone is already phased out and doesn't manufacture our phone parts anymore..will they refund it even though it was out of warranty? thanks!

Ir depends on condition. Suppose my phone warranty is going to over in next 2 days then within that 2 days if we give our phone to service center then we can claim for anything even after warranty is over.
But in ur case ur warranty is alreasy over so there is no chance of free of cost service.
the cost of the motherboard is about 5000 or 6000 it depends
I had internal memory issue. It was repaired for free under warranty. The MB was replaced.

Hey Guys,
I hope this is the right forum for this.. pardon me if it is not.
Coming from Galaxy S4, I know that phone back and forth but I feel naked when I play with S5 and how does the Sprint Stores deal with this phone..
Hardware:
1) considering this phone is sort of waterproof:
a) does sprint consider it waterproof or if they suspect water damage they will send you to asurion to pay 200$ deductible?
\\SPRINT AND SAMSUNG DO NOT CONSIDER THIS WATERPROOF SO IF YOU GET WATER DAMAGE YOU PAY FOR IT FULLY
b) beside the water sensor on the battery are there any other sensors that they check in store? it seams like the only way to get inside this phone is by removing the screen on top which is very tight and a professional work.. so I can not imagine sprint stores open it that way to check inside.. am I wrong?
Software:
2) How does print stores deal with knox and root:
//UNROOT THE PHONE AND TAKE IT TO SPRINT STORE, THEY USUALLY DO NO CARE ABOUT KNOX
a) on my old phones I would just unroot and remove the custom recovery/kenel and walk in the store, as long as they can reflash the phone they used to be happy to exchange it under warranty how is it with S5?
b) How does KNOX affect this process? I was planning to root with Towelroot to avoid the knox and then install a denoxed custom ROM for now so in case I need the phone repaired I can take it in to sprint store..
I will update this first post as the information is collected.
Thank you!

I updated the OP with some answers I found..
Hi,
I sent my 3 day old mobile into Virgin Media for a loose home button (doesn't register clicks properly) and was called today to say it would cost £200 to fix as the phone has been rooted and this voids warranty. Initially they agreed a door swap as I was within 14 days, and then phoned a day later to say it had to be sent for repair instead.
Yes, KNOX is tripped but I've read many reports in the UK warranty should still be covered. Can anyone advise me a little further in UK law? I've asked for the handset to be returned. It was returned to stock via Odin before sending in, so it's the Knox trip they're hedging this on.
Cheers
For anyone in the UK interested in following this, all my updates are here - http://community.virginmedia.com/t5...o-root-Galaxy-S6/td-p/2918695/highlight/false
Consumer advice have been contacted, with me hoping they'll go to trading standards. My personal opinion is they are wrong on two counts, cancelling the doorstep exchange within 14 days, and obviously denying the warranty on a hardware issue which everyone knows cannot be proven to be caused by rooting. Have to wait 3 working days (till the end of this week) till they get back to me. Phone returned today with a generic letter saying the issue isn't covered by warranty.
I think tampering with the device in anyway voids the warranty.

Even after writing to VM and quoting the laws Citizens Advice told me to they are still refusing. Up next it will be the small claims court.
I know about all the opinions and evidence about KNOX and Samsung on the web, but the EU makes it quite clear consumers are in a strong position when it comes to flashing.
How it can be okay to use your own software on one electronics device and not another (PC vs mobile), and even between two mobile companies (Google vs Samsung) is something we should have clearer laws on in this digital era. We even have cases of Samsung repairing KNOX voided phones. It can't be a situation where it's sometimes okay, then other times not, the law isn't as flexible as that. Either it is okay to flash mobile devices, or it's not.
I will let everyone know how this continues to pan out. I've also contacted the FSFE team for further advice on their article - https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/legal/flashingdevices.en.html
Just an update. I was contacted by the CEO's office, Tom Mockeridge, who have stated that their repair company UTL state installing 3rd party software is first and foremost misuse, and secondly that the phone is now corrupted. Corruption to them meant that it cannot be returned to stock samsung firmware, which it has been... and that the motherboard needs replaced costing £204.
Besides the fact there is plenty of evidence of KNOX tripped phones being repaired/exchanged in the EU, I'm confident "misuse" and "corruption" will not hold up in court. The phone operates fine besides the issue with the button.
To comply with their complaints process, which going via CAB and small claims isn't, I will write to CISAS as well - http://store.virginmedia.com/content/dam/eSales/Downloads/Consumer Complaint Code of Practice.pdf
Hi there, so when i first got my S7,(roughly a year and a half ago) naturally i decided to root it, i didn't keep it rooted for very long because i decided i didn't really need it(i had my S5 rooted, and i found it useful on that phone). I did end up changing the firmware from O2U to BTU so i could get updates faster. A year and a half later and my rear camera module has decided to die, the camera app crashes with either a black preview image or a corrupted preview image, the front camera is fine, and no end of factory resets from recovery or total firmware reinstallation via odin has helped.
I just got off the phone to a samsung service centre here in the UK, and they informed me that if they inspect my device and discover it's been rooted, then they would have to change the motherboard and it would cost me £350, that's more than half of what the phone was worth when i first got it. They did say if it hasn't been rooted then they would repair it under warranty, but i know they'll be able to find out it's been rooted pretty quickly, and there's no way i'm paying for a whole motherboard replacement on a phone that's two generations behind the current S9.
My questions are:
1. Can they seriously get away with charging that amount of money, and why are they telling me the motherboard needs to be replaced just because it's been rooted?
2. Is it a better idea to just take it to a non samsung phone repair shop( a reputable one) and have them carry out the repair for me? (i can't do the camera module swap myself, osteoarthritis in my left hand makes fiddling with small things impossible for me)
I'm due an upgrade soon, and it will cost me less than half of the £350 that samsung want to replace the motherboard to buy out of my contract early and get the upgrade straight away, so i might just do that first, and then if i can get the camera repaired by a third party, do that at a later date.
Thanks for reading, and i hope i posted this in the correct part of the forum!
Nobody has an opinion on this?
I don't have any idea about the 1st question.
But the 2nd question, just search and check online if camera module is available and how much it costs even if importing. Local repair guys could help you fix this easily if the issue is only related to the camera module.
