Hey Guys,
I hope this is the right forum for this.. pardon me if it is not.
Coming from Galaxy S4, I know that phone back and forth but I feel naked when I play with S5 and how does the Sprint Stores deal with this phone..
Hardware:
1) considering this phone is sort of waterproof:
a) does sprint consider it waterproof or if they suspect water damage they will send you to asurion to pay 200$ deductible?
\\SPRINT AND SAMSUNG DO NOT CONSIDER THIS WATERPROOF SO IF YOU GET WATER DAMAGE YOU PAY FOR IT FULLY
b) beside the water sensor on the battery are there any other sensors that they check in store? it seams like the only way to get inside this phone is by removing the screen on top which is very tight and a professional work.. so I can not imagine sprint stores open it that way to check inside.. am I wrong?
Software:
2) How does print stores deal with knox and root:
//UNROOT THE PHONE AND TAKE IT TO SPRINT STORE, THEY USUALLY DO NO CARE ABOUT KNOX
a) on my old phones I would just unroot and remove the custom recovery/kenel and walk in the store, as long as they can reflash the phone they used to be happy to exchange it under warranty how is it with S5?
b) How does KNOX affect this process? I was planning to root with Towelroot to avoid the knox and then install a denoxed custom ROM for now so in case I need the phone repaired I can take it in to sprint store..
I will update this first post as the information is collected.
Thank you!

Pretty straight forward question - my wife and I are looking to upgrade to S5's this evening. My usual MO is to bring the device home and root it right away. Before Knox, this wasn't an issue.
We always got TEP before, and I'd like to do the same. However if they won't honor it because knox gets tripped, it's kind of pointless to pay for. So what is everyone's opinion? Does tripping knox make TEP a waste?
Has anyone ever tried to replace a phone via TEP that had Knox counters tripped?
If my phone is ever busted, do I just have to make sure it's really REALLY busted before taking it in?
I don't think so. I had an S 2 that one store said was water damaged and refused to replace or repair under warranty. Told me to make a claim. I wound up not having to do so, but asurion sends you a refurb before you send in your old phone. They make refurbs out of the trade ins, so they just want the hardware.
No. Just last weekend I took in my s5 it had bad pixels. Knox was tripped. They replaced the device.
Not only did BestBuy LOOK at my phone.....
Members of the Geek Squad were familiar with Rompnit's MOAR Rom. Then, they played with my phone for several minutes to look at the goodies he put. One guy didn't understand why SAMMY wouldn't just put all the goodies in the phone to begin with.
If you FRY your phone, good luck explaining that.
If you just have an issue, they know dang well we are rooting our phones.
I have Assurion AND the Best Buy Protection. If something happens, SOMEbody is replacing my phone.
So ive rooted and tripped knox. Im with sprint and I'm wondering if they would give a crap if i took it in to a sprint store to try and get it replaced if an issue were to arise with my s6 in the near future? Also lets say i did get it replaced at a sprint store without them checking for a tripped counter. Would they try to charge me after they've already given me the replacement phone if they sent it back to samsung and found it was tripped?
I went to a store to replace my unit because the screen was unevenly lightened and they replaced it without checking if Knox is tripped or not (it was not though)
Wondering the same thing if I return my phone to handtec.co.uk in the UK because of my noisy home button.. Although I might just live with it.. As long as it's not getting any worse

Once a retailer accepts the phone for a replacement, they cannot deny it and give it back to you. If you send it back into Samsung directly, they will almost certainly check Knox first and may deny your replacement. Retailers are not as aware as Samsung is.
My s7 edge last night stopped charging. The usb port has died. Any how I took it to the Samsung store and they tested it and are sending it away for repair.
Will my phone still be waterproof after repair I'd imagine that it should be. And if not, can I demand a new handset given it losing its ip68 rating?
If its fixed by samsung im pretty sure it'll still be waterproof just like it was before.

Why don't you just ask them instead? They know better and it would be a useful info for the rest of us.
Well not much more I can do now till I get it back but will certainly be asking and be wanting a new handset if it's not
i repaired mine at an official samsung service. they assured me that the device will "seal" as Samsung instructs (so theoritically) it will be waterproof. i haven't tested on my device because even though they said it i dont know if i can trust them and throw away 700 euros xD
take a glass with water with you when you pick it up, and throw it in there in front of them
Mine was 3 times on repair cuz '' waterproof '' first time they said to me it works like samsung said it will work, of course we wasn't waterproof, now I'm on 3rd time sending it ( I WANT NEW PHONE ) and gues what? Samsung doesn't want to change it... It's obvious that microsd/sim slot is ****ed up and even that they don't want to change... Bought myself LG G5 and now he has defective GPS . flagships these days are ****
Hi there, so when i first got my S7,(roughly a year and a half ago) naturally i decided to root it, i didn't keep it rooted for very long because i decided i didn't really need it(i had my S5 rooted, and i found it useful on that phone). I did end up changing the firmware from O2U to BTU so i could get updates faster. A year and a half later and my rear camera module has decided to die, the camera app crashes with either a black preview image or a corrupted preview image, the front camera is fine, and no end of factory resets from recovery or total firmware reinstallation via odin has helped.
I just got off the phone to a samsung service centre here in the UK, and they informed me that if they inspect my device and discover it's been rooted, then they would have to change the motherboard and it would cost me £350, that's more than half of what the phone was worth when i first got it. They did say if it hasn't been rooted then they would repair it under warranty, but i know they'll be able to find out it's been rooted pretty quickly, and there's no way i'm paying for a whole motherboard replacement on a phone that's two generations behind the current S9.
My questions are:
1. Can they seriously get away with charging that amount of money, and why are they telling me the motherboard needs to be replaced just because it's been rooted?
2. Is it a better idea to just take it to a non samsung phone repair shop( a reputable one) and have them carry out the repair for me? (i can't do the camera module swap myself, osteoarthritis in my left hand makes fiddling with small things impossible for me)
I'm due an upgrade soon, and it will cost me less than half of the £350 that samsung want to replace the motherboard to buy out of my contract early and get the upgrade straight away, so i might just do that first, and then if i can get the camera repaired by a third party, do that at a later date.
Thanks for reading, and i hope i posted this in the correct part of the forum!
Nobody has an opinion on this?
I don't have any idea about the 1st question.
But the 2nd question, just search and check online if camera module is available and how much it costs even if importing. Local repair guys could help you fix this easily if the issue is only related to the camera module.
Hi,
I have to send my S8+ to the Samsung assistance by Amazon this month because I have the common focus problem (camera can't focus, tapping on it works again) and also sometimes my USB port "think" its wet but it isn't (and don't let me charge it also lol).
Also I need to repair my screen because it's broken.
The screen will be repaired from a third-party assistance so no problem I will pay for it.
The main question for me it's if the wet and the camera problems will get repaired for free for the warranty if o am rooted or if they will ask me some money. In that case I won't root it even if I need atm.
Let me know your opinion thanks!
If your Knox=1 so you're out of warranty
Some regions doesn't pay attention to knox if it's faulty hardware they will repair it for you without a problem and some regions are way too strict
