Left headphone does not work. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have an issue with headphones. From time to time left one stops working. I've checked the basic settings and they seem fine. It happens on all headphones. I don't believe it's an issue with hardware as when I restore phone to factory settings Left headphone starts to work and after some times. A month or so the same thing happens. Is there anything I could check? It's always left headphone.

Weird audio bug - happened twice now

Both times, I go to bed and everything is working fine. I wake up in the morning and my phone loses audio. When I hit the volume buttons it shows the media volume instead of ringtone like something is playing but there's no sound. Playing music or anything doesn't have any audio. Only solution is to reboot the phone and it works again.
Very strange because both times it happened overnight while plugged in and charging. Otherwise the phone works perfectly fine so it's something screwing with the audio only.
Anybody else have this? This time it happened in the morning my phone had been up for 10 days so not sure if it's a memory leak or issue related to long uptime.

I've seen it as well, but not necessarily related to charging overnight. For me it seems related to using headphones. I think the muting doesn't always get unset when headphones are removed. The last time this happened I put headphones back in, which worked fine, and then the speaker worked once I removed the headphones. Rebooting also fixes it.
It's happened several times, so definitely seems like a bug. But it's intermittent so hard to pin down.
Happend To Me As Well
This has been the case with my phone as well. BUT I DON'T use headphones and it was NOT charging at the time. It just did it, all it took was a reboot to reset it. But it is annoying, along with the random resets/power-off and the Restart=power off bugs...
A known problem. I just reload Sense and it fixes.

How do you reload Sense?
Happened to me once. Rebooted to make it work.
doesn't happen to me after the OTA (1.35) but it's a known problem, if you're 1.35 and above then I suggest looking for incompatible apps, cause it should've been fixed with the 1.35 ota
This happened/happens to me after I quit the iheartradio app, both on 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. A reboot kicks the volume back to system volume.

Just Lost All Sound - Samsung Focus

Not sure what happened exactly, but I was playing a couple ringtones in the "I'm a WP7" app, and then the sound just stopped. There's no audio in any application.
I uninstalled the app, rebooted phone with battery pull ect.
Is there a way to reset the audio hardware via diagnostics?
*edit* fixed. Not sure why that happened, but all is well.
Is your phone stuck in headphone mode?
Shouldn't be, I've never used headphones on my focus.
Something in that app completely crashed the audio system, now I have no sound on anything :/
Just tried plugging in headphones. Nothing. Hope I can figure this out, I have a meeting in a couple hours :|
Thanks day2die. I just ran the diagnostics for audio and messed around with it. Then I plugged in headphones, started the 'radio' and it started working, now everything is back to normal. Very odd.

[Q] Headphone jack not working

Hello everyone!
I bought my Nexus 5 a few months ago, then everything was working five. But about a month ago I started to experience some problems with the audio on my phone. I couldn't get any sound except for the ring sound and alarm sound. I did some research and found out I should download an app called soundabout. This changed the audio output or something so that I could get the media audio through the speakers and phone call audio through the earpiece. This worked and I thought I've solved all the problems, but unfortunantly when I tried to listen to some music with my headphones I couldn't get any sound. I tried to change the settings in the app, but nothing worked. Either no sound at all or the sound came through the speakers even though the headphone were plugged in. Today i rooted my phone and installed Cyanogenmod with hope that this would solve the problem. It didn't..
I've done alot of research on the internet, but I really couldn't find someone with this exact same problem. Have anyone experienced the same, or have an idea of what I could do? One option is to send it for repair, but that would take some time so I am looking for another option.. Could it be a hardware issue with the headphone jack, even though it worked at first?
Thanks in advance for replying!
Well first try removing the app. If that doesn't work try a factory reset / factory image restore. If that doesn't work, then it's a hardware problem.

I have done that before and the problem occured before I installed the app. So I guess I have to send it in for repair then. Quite strange that a hardware problem could occur so sudden..
It's not strange at all. Audio ports can take a lot of abuse. I thought mine just started to act up recently. In the end it turned out to be a loose jack on the headphones and not the port itself. I called Google to inquire about the issue before I checked the headphones. Here's a copy of what google tech support sent me for troubleshooting before RMAing it:
Thank you for contacting Google.
If you are having any audio, speaker, or microphone issues with your device, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: If your device is rooted or modified, revert your device to original factory image.
- Troubleshooting steps may not work on rooted/modified devices.
- You can re-image your device with the instructions from the following link: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Step 2: Check for system updates.
- On your device, go to 'Settings' > Scroll down to 'System' > Touch 'About phone' (or tablet) > Touch 'System updates'.
Step 3: Remove obstructions.
- Remove any cling film, stickers, covers/cases/bumpers, or anything else that can be obstructing the device.
Step 4: Restart the device in safe mode.
- With the device on, hold the 'Power' button to get the 'Power off' prompt.
- Touch and hold 'Power off' until the 'Reboot to safe mode' prompt appears.
- Touch 'OK' to reboot in safe mode.
- Note: To exit safe mode later, simply restart the device normally.
Step 5: While in safe mode, turn off Bluetooth.
- Swipe down from the stop of the screen with two fingers to pull down the quick settings menu.
- Touch 'Bluetooth'.
- In Bluetooth settings, if Bluetooth is on, touch 'On' to switch Bluetooth off.
Step 6: While in safe mode, make sure the volume is on.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to pull down the quick settings menu.
- Touch 'Settings'.
- Under 'Device', touch 'Sound'.
- Touch 'Volumes'.
- In 'Volumes', slide all three indicators all the way to the right to make sure all sound is on and at max volume.
- When each slider is adjusted, a sound will be heard.
Step 7: Check if the issue is resolved.
- Play with the volume levels to hear sound.
- Make a test phone call.
- Use Google Now to test your microphone.
If the above 7 steps didn't work, a factory data reset may resolve the issue:
Note: Performing factory data reset on your device will remove all of your personal data.
1. Go to 'Settings > Backup & reset'.
2. Touch 'Factory Data Reset'.
3. Touch 'Reset'.
After the factory data reset is complete and your device reboots, sign into your device using the same primary Google Play account you used to sync your purchased apps and other content.
If your issue has been resolved, great! Let us know.
If performing a factory data reset didn't resolve your issue, do one of the following:
- REPLY TO THIS EMAIL
- CALL us and reference this email and mention you have gone through the troubleshooting steps.
Nexus 5 does not respond to headphone
Tried all those options mentioned above, still no luck. Anybody got new news to make headphone work in Nexus 5? In my case headphone works with SOUNDABOUT app, so I don't think its hardware issue? HELP!!1
Thanks in advance
They take 2 min to replace
So u think its a hardware (Head phone jack) issue?
Be sure the headphone jack is completely inserted
I thought my Nexus 5 headphone jack was broken, so I took off the protective case to be sure it was not preventing the head phone jack from being completely inserted. I noticed that it took some extra effort to get the Jack to click. That did the trick and it works great. I felt pretty stupid because it wasn't the case or jack, it was me not pushing it in all the way.

Question Top speaker sound instead of receiver

Hello everyone,
I've got the phone a few days ago and I've noticed that when I'm in call the sound comes from top speaker instead of the receiver (earpiece).
I went to CIT to test it and I found out that it's true, the sound really comes from the top speaker. Also I've found out that the receiver volume doesn't change anything, but if you mute the media there will be no sound at all.
I've tried factory reseting the phone and also tried to do the CIT in safe mode, but no luck.
I have the following question, is it only my device that has this problem or are there more of you with the same problem? I'm asking because I'm willing to ask for a replacement and I want to see if this is only happening with my device.
Thank you.

Mic/speaker/Bluetooth - no sound

need some help. I suddenly lost all audio on my phone (Pixel 4a 5g). I don't know what happened, but now speaker/Bluetooth and the 3.5mm jack don't work anymore. When I try and change the volume it won't show the Bluetooth icon on the volume icon (even when my headphones are connected). The microphone also stopped working and crashes the recorder app if I try and use it. This seemed like some sort of bug to me so I tried safe mode, didn't work. I looked online but didn't find any similar issues. I ended up doing a factory reset but even that didn't help. I'm stuck now. Please help if you know anything.
Thank you very much.
