Hi!
Im sure someone asked this before, so i apologize in advance if this thread is a repeat. Anyways, so i was wondering if anyone can help me. I have a OnePlus 6, yes i own it, but ive accidentally exposed it to a river.... Yes i know.... how in the world, lets just say that my brain wasnt operating the way it should have been. In any case, ive sent the phone to be repaired by Rock It Repairs, but unfortunately, they were unable to fix the phone. So the main question is, how can i possibly transfer my data to my PC or, if possible, revive the phone. Everything works besides for the touch. Here are somethings that i already tried.
Already tried a screen replacement. They said that the problem is most likely with the motherboard if the screen replacement didnt work. Theres no motherboard replacements on the market.
USB C port works. (OTG Storage was not enabled) (I ordered an OTG wire earlier so i havent tried it yet, but it probably wont work if OTG storage was not ebabled)
Phone was restarted so I NEED to enter my pattern code to access the device.
Power, volume, and slider works if that matters.
Anyone have any advice on how i can recover my data or save my device???
Can't you connect a mouse and/or keyboard to the USB-C port?

Also you can use fastboot to transfer files too in earlier versions of android, idk with encryption enabled.
Try using a usb mouse with the USB C and OTG adapter, I really don't think you'd need to have OTG enabled for that.
So unfortunately, the OnePlus 6 does not detect the mouse or power on the mouse when i connect it with the OTG cable. Yeah apparently, OnePlus has this thing in the settings where you can able OTG storage, but its only for 10 minutes. Also, i did not enable USB debugging so i dont i can use ADB. Fastboot does work, but im not sure what to do from there. Plugging in the OTG cable doesnt do anything in recovery mode. Any other tips?

Try booting into fastboot
Then try booting twrp (something like fastboot boot twrp.img, where twrp.img is in current folder)
Once it boots you can use mtp or adb to pull/push files while in twrp.
Same thing happened to a friend of mine with a 256GB OP6. Sadly, your data is gone, because the phones encrypted too there's not much use trying to get the data from outside the OS.
I attempted repairs on this exact OP6 with no success. I tried isopropyl, I also tried a new display flex cable. This made absolutely no difference. I haven't replaced the screen, however it's down it to either being the motherboard, or the display. OnePlus wants €430 for the board and €78 for the display, which totals out the phone.
This is why you always do automatic backups of your photo's etc so that you dont have problems like this..... i think your best option is to send it back to oneplus to get a new motherboard and lucky the oneplus repairs cost aint that high unlike many other brands but no doubt that the onboard mem is on the motherboard also so you still will lose your data

Sounds like PC to me, happens reboot PC and phone if it does not help I would suggest plugging it into another computer. If it works then try your computer again. This happened to me before with an external hard drive. Hope you get it worked out.
This also happened to me, it was working properly before but it just stopped. It seems that the phone always detects that there is a USB connected even if there was none, evidence is it is always in the charging state when I check the battery status. I think this is a hardware problem. I'm still looking for a solution for this.

USB issues like this will never make sense to me. It's working fine and then not, back and forth. I too am looking for a resolution.

I've never UNCHECKED USB Debugging.... during Odin connections or transferring files between phone and computer. As soon as I plug USB into phone, the USB symbol appears in notification bar and then I press notification to transfer files between computer and phone. My SR internal and external storage are recognized as drive letters on the PC. Try leaving USB Debugging checked and see if that works for you.

I had this problem using my front USB port on my computer.
When I switched to the rear USB port, it worked fine.
Well... it kills my DVI KVM every time. But the PHONE works.

i highly believe this is a hardware problem because mine started when the phone overheat and turned itself off. I already tried resetting to factory setting but still the problem persisted.

good point there have been instances where I have had to switch ports to get it to work.
I remember also having the same problem with a USB cable I used with my captivate. This cable worked well with the captivate but when I plugged my Sky, I had the same problem as you. It took me a while to figure it out and change the cable.
Hope it help

Thank you.
Hey guys. I recently came across the same problem as the OP.
My phone will not detect that it is connected to a computer, and the computer will say that the device is not detected/has malfunctioned.
I have tried a factory reset, I have tried USB debugging, checking and unchecking, I have tried going into USB Storage and hitting the connect to PC button.
The phone does not connect using any of the 6 USB ports. It does not connect to my home or work computer. I have used two different cables, the stock and a third party one. (I have always used stock, never any third party until now to resolve this issue.)
This problem also came out of the blue, no changes were made. The phone is stock no rooting or flashing. Although that was the plan, but now it seems pointless.
Judging from the responses on many websites, I would have to say it's a software issue that can't be resolved. Or maybe a hardware issue. Either way I'm sending it into Rogers (Canadian carrier it originated from) tomorrow if I can't fix it by tonight.
I would love help from the outside public, but please respond with suggestions that are more intricate than to hit the connect to PC button, as I have exhausted all of those options already.
If this is a random occurrence, (and it seems like a common problem from all the results I get when searching for answers) then this phone model really needs to have a fix or something down the road soon, because this is ridiculous.
EDIT: Also tried reboot of the PC. It's Windows 7 64-bit so shouldn't need drivers either, and it was working fine last week.
If u did all that, u did ur due diligence in troubleshooting the problem. I almost guarantee ur mini-usb is dead, or maybe damaged so that it still allows charge but won't connect to computer. Send it in to Rogers, they should give u a temp phone in the mean time becuz its under warrantt
Yeah I figured something hardware related decided to crap out on me.
Is there a specific cause for this to happen? I plan on rooting and flashing different roms when I get the phone back, and don't want to have this happen again out of warranty, or else I'm screwed.
I try to take good care of my phone, so it's weird that this happened. If it is a common problem, then I guess I'd have to be careful to not do anything on my phone that's not reversible.

Replacing the usb port on some devices arent solving the issue.
For example, i have a usb bricked GT-N7000 and technician said that usb port is working on another device but there is something blocking usb mounting in the emmc. I dont have a bricked emmc, but the thing is i have been searching all over to find a fix for this thing more than a year now.
So I smashed my LCD a few weeks back and I'm just now getting around to sending it in to LG to be fixed. I'd like to wipe my phone before sending it in. I hadn't unlocked the bootloader or rooted and the phone is still stock. I tried using WUG toolkit but the phone is not in USB debugging mode so I can't connect. I also tried using Android Device Manager but for some reason it will not connect even though I have it powered on (i'm wondering if it's because I don't have a sim card in it?)
Do you guys have any ideas? I was able to delete all the stuff off internal memory but there is still plenty of access to dropbox and email addresses, etc.

Oh sorry, I should've been more clear, I can't see any of the screen. It's crushed so bad the entrie lcd popped out of the phone and just hangs by the connectors.
So recently I started having this problem. My Nexus 5 stopped charging all of a sudden.
After messing around I found out that I could charge the phone when it is turned off, but when I boot it (while connected) it doesn't show the charging icon. Only when looking up the battery status at the setting menu it says charging.
To my surprise fastboot was still working (adb wasnt) what brought me to think it's not the hardware.
So far I have done a factory reset, wiped everything, installed stock kernel and recovery, downgraded to stock 5.0 (I don't even know why, just thought its worth a shot...).
At some point I took the phone apart to try to determine whether I tore out the connector itself, and noticed nothing.
I'm really running out of ideas here... I can live with having to reboot the phone for charging, but I really need it to connect to the computer.
Any help will be appreciated!
You tried different USB cables and chargers? USB debugging enabled? Computer is a trusted machine in adb?
I have 2 computers on which adb is trusted. Both stopped working. I tried a few cables, all of them worked with another phone, but did not with mine.
Adb is enabled. :/
Did you try revoking all computers and re-establishing trust after flashing a stock ROM?
Strange that fastboot commands work and adb doesn't.
Nope, but I tried connecting to another one and no dialog popped up.
Btw, an hour ago it just started working... All of a sudden...
I should be happy, but now I have no chance in finding what was the problem.
Anyways thank you for now, if I have any more issues I'll update.
I assume it's physical damage to the usb board/module (since it started working while no change to the software was done in the past few days).
I will order a new one just in case.
Thank you again guys!
Maybe a loose internal connection? You could try removing the back to looking for loose connections.
Did so, didn't notice anything strange.
I do have experience with soldering, but I would rather not touch it before I get a new one, just in case I screw up. Small components are no fun.
The thing that still bugs me though is I had fastboot working perfectly fine all that time. Oh well
Hello,
My Moto G is not transmitting data to my PC. I have tried different cables, ports, PCs and nothing seems to work. Nothing comes up like USB debugging connected or MTP or whatever, so don't try pull that on me. I am getting very frustrated at the problem I have. It charges, but does not transmit data.
I DONT want to get a new charging port, even though it has been replaced before, just a few months ago. I really want to get this working so I can relock my bootloader so I can actually use certain apps, eg Snapchat and Poke Go.
If anyone could help I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks,
Matt.

You don't have to relock bootloader to use any of those apps... Just restore your pre-root Nandroid.
Otherwise, you have tried everything we would tiger USB working, there is no magic way to look into your device and computer and see the problem.

Sorry I didn't respond quickly, I had a lot to do lol. I don't exactly remember making a pre-root backup before I rooted, because "aint nobody got time for that!" I am going to flash some stock firmware that I have laying around on my PC, to an SD Card. Thanks.
I don't want to get burn in on my phone, but I tried for 6 hours today to get this rooted and it was just one problem after another, most of which I see have barely happened to anyone. Between driver errors, installing driver errors, unauthorized adb errors, some strange error with a missing key or something, and it saying it's waiting for a device when attempting to run the boot image, I had to give up because everyone around me was getting annoyed by how much time I spent on it. A simple guide of maybe five things I had to do turned into a huge rabbit hole, it even resulted in my phone inconspicuously seeming as though it's bricked for a few hours for some reason.
So my question is, is there anything I can do? I'm a gamer, and I have OCD to boot, so when I see those damn icons burnt into my screen when playing something, it's gonna kill me. Is Tasker an option? Man, this was much easier on IOS, surprisingly.

Oh, sorry about that. Windows 10 Home. It's a couple years old now. An Acer Aspire 5. It has been giving me driver troubles for a long time, which would explain why it's made it so difficult to root.
The "waiting for device" is symptomatic of a missing driver.
There's a number of threads on installing drivers/connecting to PC in https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/oneplus-8t-guides-news-discussion.11585/
I even write one of them with lots of screenshots.
If none of them work then I suggest you have issues with your PC or, if you can't see your phone at all using MTP, your physical contention between the phone and PC.
Have you tried using a different USB port and USB cable? It's possible the port/usb cable is damaged and causing issues. swap both with a different USB Cable, make sure it's a thicker cable and not a cheap one. if you're using the C to C cable that comes with the phone, try using a USB C to USB A adapter.
Download full android SDK. Works for me every time.
