Samsung Calendar could be keeping your device awake during standby - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Since Samsung device have a reputation for bad standby time I suspected that a Samsung app is poorly optimized.
The "deep sleep" ratio was improved when I turned sync off, from 65% to 80+%. So it looked like it was one of Samsung syncing apps in the background.
I tried disabling a couple of Samsung apps and uninstalling Samsung Calendar boosted my deep sleep ratio to 81% with sync turned on.

How did you disable or uninstall Samsung Calendar? Are you rooted?

Ahhh makes much more sense. Thanks!

What calendar app are you using if you removed the permissions? Does it sync your calendar information?
My wife and I share a calendar as well as calendars from our kids school. we need to be synced.

Well, the account shows up, under accounts & sync in the phone settings, but I don't think it's actually syncing the contacts. None of them are showing up for me in the people app.

Uhm... personally I don't like these limitations:
IMPORTANT:
* Facebook does not allow to export phone numbers or emails. Only names, pictures and statuses are synced.
* Facebook users have the option to block one or all apps. If they opt for that, they will be EXCLUDED from your friends list.

Sync Times

Ok,
Sorry if this has been covered but i've been google searching and searching on XDA for the past 20 minutes and haven't found anything yet so I think i'm safe to start a new thread... Verizon Galaxy S3, is there a way to change how often things get synced like google calendar, contacts, gmail, facebook? I only see the option to have it sync or not sync but haven't found any option to change how often it syncs. Thanks in advance for the help!!

"Master sync has been turned off" and I can't turn it on

Solved
I'm having trouble with the push service for the stock email. I use the stock email app for my work email which requires exchange, and use dog mail for all my other emails. However I recently lost the push service for some reason (I don't know why). It says the "master sync has been turned off" but I can't find a way to turn it on. In the accounts if I go to them in settings there is a sync icon with a "!" and the message "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Does anyone know how to fix this?
I had the same problem on my GS4 a while back, but it spontaneously resolved after a couple months. I don't currently have that problem on the GS4.
The only thing I've done in the time period where this started happening (it was working fine on the 12.2) is that I installed MyPhoneExplorer Client and updated my contacts, but I did this on my GS4 too and sync is fine on the GS4 still.
Both the 12.2 and GS4 are rooted and have no operating system updates.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Check in your toggles. Should be a sync toggle that is unchecked

I don't know for sure but I think I had all these frozen without issue
Thank you for the help and suggestions. I'll try unfreezing them tonight and see what happens.

Gmail not pushing notifications

I'm new to Honor and EMUI and i'm having trouble with push notifications with Gmail, specifically that it seems to be completely broken and I only know i've recieved email when i manually unlock my phone and check. I've been all through the settings pages of Gmail and EMUI to make sure notifications are on and that Gmail is allowed to run in the background but so far i've not found anything that fixes the issue. It also seems that Gmail is a system process rather than an app so Gmail often doesn't show up in the various app lists for controling battery management/optimisations etc. I'm on EMUI 5 on my UK spec phone if that matters.
Anyone come across this before?
Thanks
Do you have unlimited data enabled for Gmail? My phone had that problem
Nope, that was not enabled. I'll enable it and see what happens.
Is your Gmail app the latest version?
Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs
Yup, everything is up to date. There's doesn't seem to be any real logic to it either, sometimes an email notification will come straight through and then another email minutes later wont. I'm pretty sure it's doing for Facebook Messenger too.

Is your Play Services the latest version? Because it manages the GCM notifications that Gmail uses.

I've exempt Gmail from optimization, sync is all one, no data restrictions etc.
I definitely dont get notifications during deep sleep, they only came through this morning once i'd turned the screen on.

Actually, I haven't exempt it from optimization because Gmail doesn't even show up in the list, I think because it's seen as a system process rather than an app.

Gmail Notifications

Hello, im loving my OP7 Pro so far - sadly i got one issue. I don't receive Notifs from Gmail... i enabled them all (the app does not appear in battery optimization so i cannot disable that). i got no issues with other apps. Im running out of idea.. i found a topic about the 6 and 5T but didnt deliver and sultion... anyone got the same problem?
i only see the mails if i actually open gmail.
I had the same issue with Gmail, I'm a Google apps user so have a service agreement with them, they managed to fix it at their end.
If your issue is the same as mine then you're Gmail notifications will not work on other phones too.
If they do work on other phones then you're issue is different to the one I had.
I hope this may help.

hello, thanks for your quick reply,
they worked fine on my huawei mate 20 x before.
so i guess the error is on a secret / hidden setting i cannot find
It's the deep sleep Android goes to. It's not showing in the battery optimization bc GMAIL is a system app.
Fix 1, Uninstall system GMAIL app with Titanium backup "root required" and install from the app store. It will show up in battery optimization then add to no optimize.
Fix 2, run "dumpsys deviceidle disable" w/o quotes in Terminal Emulator under SU "Root required" or add in into script and have execute at boot.
Fix 1 and 2 both worked for me before.
I installed magisk module, OxygenOS Gmail Battery Fix. It works for me so far.

It also doesn't work if I keep Gmail open and just turn the screen off.
So I basically need to root it to get notifications? Seems rather unintended no?
You'll need root to turn off Android doze or uninstall Gmail as a system app and reinstall as user app. That's the nature of the beast.
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
You can do it without root as well: Using Nova Launcher (or another launcher which can create activity shortcuts), long press on homescreen, click on widget and create an activity for: Settings -> Battery optimization (.Settings$HighPowerApplicationsActivity), open it, set to "all Apps" with the dropdown menu and it will show all Apps including system Apps. Then choose "not optimized" for Gmail

That's another issue then if it doesn't notify you if you send an email shortly after turning off the screen. Do you get notifications when the screen is on?
I found a great substitute for Gmail. Try Edison Email on the Play store. Notifications work great, and app is very customizable.

I have exactly the same issue...
Same here. With activty launcher from Nova i can change Gmail to ''dont optimize''. But it will reset after restart...
Go to Settings / Accounts / Google / Account sync
Disable and reenable sync for Gmail.
This fixes it for me every time. Issue typically comes back after some Gmail updates (not after all updates).

nope doesnt work either
Trust me when I say this won't work, it took Google 2 weeks and lots of bug reports for them to find the issue assuming it's the same as mine.
Please confirm you still receive notifications on a different phone.
If not like I had, Google technical support had to fix something there end.
Having the same issue on my S10+ .. I receive some notifications on one Gmail account - but it's hit/miss on the rest.
