Hey,
I've got the problem that some of my apps running, for example familionet (a location sharing app in which someone can request your location), stop running in background. As I saw a possible solution somewhere, I tried opening up settings - battery - the specific app and turn on manual for all the options instead of automatically manage battery settings, but this doesn't seem to work.
Is this a known problem? Is there any solution for this problem? The Huawai P20 Lite is currently running Oreo 8.0, not rooted.

Hi there,
since the update to Android 5.1 and EMUI 3.1 some services like Whatsapp wont work properly. That means for me:
- Push notifications from Whatsapp and Snapchat will only arrive, when I open the app -> sometimes, when I close the app from the task manager or leave it over the night
- Whatsapp forgets the names of my contacts and only shows the numbers (some background service not running?) -> fixable by "updating" the contacts through Whatsapp. Happens at least 5 times a day, even when I'm not closing Whatsapp through the taskmanager.
Every permission I could find is activated, I guess it's some kind of automatic battery saving, which I'm unable to find.
Thank you very much,
Julian
I used to have that problem as well after updating my Honor 6 to EMUI 3.1 based on Lollipop 5.1.
Updating WhatsApp to version 2.12.278 (link in the FAQ section in the official website) seems to improve. However I still have another problem which could not be resolved, I could not change the notification sounds.

you need to set your apps to be protected at Settings -> Protected apps to prevent them to be closed automatically by the system
hope it helps

I have Honor 6 too, don't updated till now. And i have another phone with Android 5.1 with same problem. Is there any third party App like "protected Apps" from Huawei? I don't have any chance do get my backgroundservices running, that unbelievable :crying: who decided this? The Charwoman? I mean, android without backgroundservices = no mor messages in lock screen.
And when i leave app open, battery usage is 4x stronger then background service....
I have runkeeper protected and still after about 1h of usage it simply stops with no errors...
I'm on an early version of DEV (rom), I think I'm going the "stable" route next.

I have the exact same issue, came across this thread looking for answers. RunKeeper (and I assume any other app as well) is simply killed after about 1 hour. I usually use my phone during walks, to for example take pictures, answer chat messages and whatnot, so I thought the issue could be that I was out of memory and that is why it closed the app. To get to the botton of it, I tried the following steps:
- Reboot the device
- Clear everything from the multitask menu
- Make sure RunKeeper is set as a "protected app"
- Start RunKeeper, begin an activity
- Keep the app open, i e not going back to home screen or opening any other app
- Waking the screen every 5 minutes or so to make sure it doesn't go into some deep sleep mode
Result? After about 1 hour, when I pick up the phone and unlock it the RunKeeper process is simply gone, killed by the system. By the way, for me it's a Huawei Mate S device, but this seems to be an EMUI issue. I'm on EMUI 3.1 (B145 europe, official release). Just thought I'd chip in. This is annoying to the point of being a dealbreaker to ever getting another Huawei until I can confirm it's fixed.
I have this problem constantly. I installed an app called "pnf no root" but it also helps temporarely. I really like my honor 6 [ h60-L12] but this is a really annoying problem. I realize that huawei doing this save battery power, but this is ridiculous. What's the point of protecting the apps if it doesn't do anything in the first place ?

Hi, I have the same problem with my Honor6 [h60-L04C900B521]. I talked with technical support and they told me to install an application locking the GPS signal . Check if it works with Endomondo + GPS Connected app but this can only fix the endomondo problem I hope.
Edit. 10.04
Unfortunately this application do nothing. Endomondo was kill after 1 hour running. Anyone have idea what to do with this?
Edit 11.05
Finally after update to marshmallow there is one option to keep endomondo while workout. Under battery in right-up corner there is settings icon and there is option "close excessively power intensive apps running in the background" this option actually works fine.

Dear,
I recently upgraded to Android Nougat on my Mate 8 (AL10C00B575) with EMUI 5.0.
i'm using multiple app that need to stay active and cannot be killed:
Currently I whitelisted those app in "Phone Manager - cleanup - settings - Memory whitelist", but they keep getting killed.
Still when i open up the list of running apps (square icon in navigation bar) and click on the recycle bin, those apps are still killed.
a few examples of the effect after I clicked the recycle bin to clean all apps although the below are whitelisted:
Facebook Messenger: not receiving any notification anymore of incoming chats. The messenger bubble on the homescreen doesn't even appear.
Screen filter: when screen is dimmed using this application, cleaning the apps restores the normal brightness of the screen which indicates that app was killed
Twilight light: similar to Screen filter
Automate: running fibers are all killed and a reboot doesn't restart them as I would expect
Alarm Clock Xtreme free: when the apps are cleaned, the alarms are not taken into account by the OS anymore and hence don't go off...We can clearly see the app kill as the alarm icon disappear from the status bar when cleaning apps
many many more
I've also attemted to add all those apps as "allowed apps" in the Battery Optimizations (Settings - Apps - Settings - Special Access - Ignore optimisations), but this didn't make any difference.
Please help as this is very annoying... I never had this behaviour with Android 6.0 (EMUI 4.1).
Regards,
Thib
I'm getting same problem, and i did all those above stuff?
my apps getting crash after screen off,
I had this problem on l29c432b560 and still have this on my current firmware (l29c185b560)
I did factory reset to make sure there's nothing wrong with my ROM but no luck

This is a software problem....I Tried many solutions but in vain....Recently I bricked my phone then I left it away in the closet and took my daughter's Lenovo a7000 then I discovered this bad software of Huawei....With Lenovo a7000 I faces no issue at all ...all working...GMD gesture control....whatsapp...etc....I will never be back to Huawei after a year of suffering .....Samsung S8 will be my next phone....and now I feel good I bricked my mate 8...
The only was work,i put all Apps Whatsapp Facebook...
in System/App Folder and give right Permissions.
I have no Problems with Notifications.
I am on C432B560.
Permissions:
Apk and odex files rw-r--r--
Folders rwxr-xr-x
.so files (Whatsapp) rwxrwxrwx
This works for me.
Your Phone must be rooted.
Did anyone find a solution? I find this highly annoying. When you listen to files with a player and the screen goes off, the playback stops as the damn app is killed. I am thinking to go back to Android 6..
How install an app in System/App?

My Device: Mate8 L29C432B560 rooted.
I already installed Strava y Whatsap cutting from Data/app and pasting on System/app, and changing permission according to the instructions. However, now, Strava isn't listed in "Battery>Close App when screen is blocked" , however Whatsapp is listed.
Has anyone any explanation to that?
Something else I don't understand, the apps listed in "Battery>Close App when screen is blocked" which are selected to close. These apps really don't close when screen in blocked. Why?
Thanks in advance.
I'm also facing the same problem in Huawei P9 with EMUI 5.0.1. I have tried every ways in the forums.
Fix
I was able to fix this by going to Settings < Battery < Close Apps after screen Lock <
And then make sure you turn all apps to "Don't close".
Hope this helps
Same problem with Honor 9 & Android 7 (EMUI 5.0)
Tryed everything explained, but some aplications get killed after a while...

I managed to find the same fix as well but stumbled upon another issue. I have a P10+.
If you would go to phone manager and do an optimization scan, all the apps that are unchecked to be closed when you lock the screen now show up as to be skipped when doing a memory clean so I say, ok, fine, let's get them off the whitelist, but that makes them checked back up to be closed during screen lock.
Does anyone know if these two lists are interlinked?
Hello I have bought mate 9 from Dubai which has latest EMUI Version 5.0.
When I started the phone nothing is showing on home page except No Recent App. I m not able to do anything . I can only see the apps or msg when I get the notifications.
I can see the apps and everything I but when I installed other launchers but those launcher get disabled automatically after sometime.
I have also done the factory reset and check and change the setting multiple time but no luck.
Please help as I am not able to get any solution of this issue anywhere.
Anyone else have this issue too? Ive tried adjusting the battery launch setting but nothing works. There is a similar thread on the Mate 10 forums too.

Are the apps fully compatible with Oreo?
Stock widgets or any?
I've had several weather widgets as well as KWGT widgets and all update. I'm on 8.0.0.360(c636), 360a from FF.
The folks at business calendar say the problem is EMUI 8, not Oreo. I have several widgets that won't update since the upgrade: MyStocks, Business Calendar, Today weather. In addition, a program US Topo Maps, that would record hikes now stops recording as soon as the screen goes off, even though I have exempted it from battery optimization. I exempted all of the apps whose widgets are not working, no help. It makes me want to install a ROM without EMUI.
Changing the screen resolution forces widgets to update.
I like the Huawei Mate 9 and its camera is excellent. The only thing I don't like about it is EMUI. Huawei is its own worst enemy in this respect.
Same on P10. After update to oreo /emui8 widgets stop updating. Havent found any solution.
For me they update, the only problem I have is with fonts not sticking.
It always uses the default font. Guess I'll have to do that factory reset soon..
Huawei has taken a supermachine with Nougat to set it like a Nokia 3300 with Oreo.
Yes, I also have this frustrating issue. Rotating the phone causes the widgets to update.
it doesn't matter what UI I use - EMUI or NOVA.
What is very frustrating is that several updates have been applied since Oreo, time passes, but Huawei doesn't do anything to solve this important bug.
I wonder if the problem is also present on the P20 with Oreo 8.1.
Widgets doesn't update automatically P20 Pro EMUI 8.1
The problem still perist in EMUI 8.1
I installed AOSP, guide at entry 22 of
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/help/request-guide-t3774615
and my widgets update, have March security update, but headphones don't work. Whack-a-mole.
Update: If I plug in the headphones first, and then play music, headphones work. If I plug headphones in while music is playing, they don't. So the problem is switching rather than playing, which I can live with.
same problem here mate 9 .Stock also .Nova launcher
EMUI 8.1
I was also having this issue when I updated to emui 8.1. my apps stopped refreshing/updating so I started playing around and may have found the solution.
This fix has solved the widgets not refreshing issue for me.
- Go to Settings, Apps and Notifications, Apps.
- Choose the app that you are using as widgets
- Go to battery option in the app, click app launch, and then turn off 'manage automatically'
- Manage manually: all options turned on.
Hope this helps everyone.
Hi Guys!
I have a Huawei Y5 (2017) MYA-L22. Android 6.0. EMUI 4.1 which kills any app as soon as it's put in the background (minimized), so when you get back to it, it starts from scratch. I tried all the battery optimization options and nothing is working.
