Anyone else have this issue too? Ive tried adjusting the battery launch setting but nothing works. There is a similar thread on the Mate 10 forums too.

Are the apps fully compatible with Oreo?
Stock widgets or any?
I've had several weather widgets as well as KWGT widgets and all update. I'm on 8.0.0.360(c636), 360a from FF.
The folks at business calendar say the problem is EMUI 8, not Oreo. I have several widgets that won't update since the upgrade: MyStocks, Business Calendar, Today weather. In addition, a program US Topo Maps, that would record hikes now stops recording as soon as the screen goes off, even though I have exempted it from battery optimization. I exempted all of the apps whose widgets are not working, no help. It makes me want to install a ROM without EMUI.
Changing the screen resolution forces widgets to update.
I like the Huawei Mate 9 and its camera is excellent. The only thing I don't like about it is EMUI. Huawei is its own worst enemy in this respect.
Same on P10. After update to oreo /emui8 widgets stop updating. Havent found any solution.
For me they update, the only problem I have is with fonts not sticking.
It always uses the default font. Guess I'll have to do that factory reset soon..
Huawei has taken a supermachine with Nougat to set it like a Nokia 3300 with Oreo.
Yes, I also have this frustrating issue. Rotating the phone causes the widgets to update.
it doesn't matter what UI I use - EMUI or NOVA.
What is very frustrating is that several updates have been applied since Oreo, time passes, but Huawei doesn't do anything to solve this important bug.
I wonder if the problem is also present on the P20 with Oreo 8.1.
Widgets doesn't update automatically P20 Pro EMUI 8.1
The problem still perist in EMUI 8.1
I installed AOSP, guide at entry 22 of
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/help/request-guide-t3774615
and my widgets update, have March security update, but headphones don't work. Whack-a-mole.
Update: If I plug in the headphones first, and then play music, headphones work. If I plug headphones in while music is playing, they don't. So the problem is switching rather than playing, which I can live with.
same problem here mate 9 .Stock also .Nova launcher
EMUI 8.1
I was also having this issue when I updated to emui 8.1. my apps stopped refreshing/updating so I started playing around and may have found the solution.
This fix has solved the widgets not refreshing issue for me.
- Go to Settings, Apps and Notifications, Apps.
- Choose the app that you are using as widgets
- Go to battery option in the app, click app launch, and then turn off 'manage automatically'
- Manage manually: all options turned on.
Hope this helps everyone.

Has anyone figured out the solution for notification issue on Mate 9 AL00.
Currently on: B153
Android Authority said today that an update is coming to fix that, but I haven't read that anywhere else.
They said it in the article about Mate 9 issues and how to fix them, also the touchscreen issue.

I'm on B156 too... The problem still there... We have to wait a little more.... For now you have to lock all the apps that you get notifications to recent apps...
Notification bug:
The aggressive RAM management and battery optimizations that cause the issue with third party launchers (mentioned above) also results in notifications not coming through. An update to fix this problem is rolling out now, and you should receive it shortly.

I've got the same problem with AL29 B126.
In fact if I don't receive notifications after some hours the system will close automatically the app.

Push notifications
Pushover still not working on B183. I have configured to allow notifications, priority display, etc. Its set to 'Dont Close' in the battery manager lock screen power savings section. I have it as 'Allowed' in the Exempt from battery optimization...
Has anyone got push notifications to work?

where did you get B183 Im still on B175 in my AL00 and Im able to receive notifications once I locked the apps I want to receive notifications from
I hate being that guy but for the record I have no notification issues.
I've set Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Trigger, etc. to not close on screen lock and after a month of owning it I guess EMUI's learning algorithm got a hang of how I use my device and now it never kills those processes from memory.
I did find that after not using WhatsApp for a couple of months it DID start killing it from memory so it does seem to be constantly evaluating my usage patterns.
I'm on B156.

Hallo, last night I received B182 update , install it , and now everything seems to be solved
I briefly want to describe my experience to help those who are getting crazy with that issue like us .
Got my Mate 9 one week ago and immediately get the bad experience of notification problems (Whatsapp at first, Telegram later. I'm not a Fb user) . Delay of all notifications when the phone were in stand by mode (screen off) after 10 minutes. I've tried ALL that was described in the several forums I searched to solve the issue and that you confirmed: NO WAY to get rid of that
I've noticed that when the function - "app gemella" sorry- "dual app" was on (I use two sim's and whatsapp account) the problem was really big. I tried phone hard reset, reinstall latest version of Whatsapp apk but nothing changed. Yesterday I contacted Huawei service assistance but they were only able to tell me to wait for an upgrade that fix this bug... They even didn't know when the upgrade could sort...
And magically , last night , it came the new MHA-L29C432 B182 . The phone seems to be re-born , very fast and reliable in giving all the notifications I got.. If I think that I was about to sell it...
it was working fine with me on B186 (chinese version) but after fw update to B213 gapps notification and auto sync are acting up, sometimes I got some notifications but not all the time, I re-applied all the settings as described in other forums and still issues is not fix
Update: after reapplying notifications and permissions settings to the apps I want to get notifications, deleting and adding my google accounts, lock them in my phone, complete depleting my phone battery and charge it again..my phone is back to normal again, battery last the usual 2 days under moderate/high usage, notifications and autosync working, not sure but I'm under the impression that after a major update it takes some time to the AI of the phone to get back to what it used to be or maybe I was just lucky, still Mate 9 rocks !!!

Not sure if my issue is the same but I'm losing notifications randomly. I've tried loads of things also from forums but it seems without any lasting success. However after a restart I'm keeping the notifications for the moment and they're not randomly disappearing.
Not sure if this is of any lasting help mind and that they will again start disappearing randomly.
My next step is a factory reset but what a pain that is!
I'm on B182.
Update: so far so good. I now have notifications that are 12hrs old and still visible. I'm wondering that if you make settings changes, they aren't picked up unless you do a restart!?

I got it from FF updater, some also got it from HiCare/Update app
Hello I have bought mate 9 from Dubai which has latest EMUI Version 5.0.
When I started the phone nothing is showing on home page except No Recent App. I m not able to do anything . I can only see the apps or msg when I get the notifications.
I can see the apps and everything I but when I installed other launchers but those launcher get disabled automatically after sometime.
I have also done the factory reset and check and change the setting multiple time but no luck.
Please help as I am not able to get any solution of this issue anywhere.
So I have had my Honor View 10 just over a month now. Overall I really like it. However, there are a few minor bugs(?) that I am finding quite annoying, but have not seen any other mention of them. Was just wondering if anyone else has experienced any of these? And if so, how have you managed to overcome them?
1) Home screen widgets not updating
So I am using Nova launcher, as I have done for quite some time before getting this phone. One problem that I have found is that my widgets are not updating. E.g. Keep list still shows items that have been ticked off and Agenda Widget won't clear past days and bring in extra days as they fall into the 30 day window. I don't know if this is specifically an issue with Nova or other 3rd party launchers on this device, or if this happens on the stock launcher too. I have set all the related apps, including everything Nova, to be manually manged in the battery launch options, but have seen no improvement. I only seem to be able to force them to update by either removing and replacing the widgets or by restarting the phone.
2) Wallpaper not updating
I use Muzei with a Bing daily wallpaper plugin to change my wallpaper daily. Well, that was the plan anyway. Occasionally it will change automatically, but many days it will not and I have to force it manually. Again, I have set the launch options for Muzei and the plugin to be manually managed, but with no change.
3) Bluetooth loses music control ability
I use my phone to listen to music via bluetooth to my car stereo. The audio has never failed, but what frequently happens is that I will lose the ability to control the music from the bluetooth device. I.e. pause, play and skip tracks. When this happens I have to reboot my phone to get that function back. How long it takes for this to happen varies. Can be after just a day or after several days. I have experimented with changing how I disconnect from the bluetooth device, but this has no impact. Also, I occasionally get the audio breaking up, so that it sounds like a skipping CD.
I feel like there is something else that I am forgetting, so will post when/if I remember.
Thanks.
I use Nova too. Some widgets get (most of the time) updated, others not.
When I restart Nova (by the settings in the app), updates works for a unspecified amount of time.
I think this is a downside of the not (really) manageable Ram/Battery management from Emui8.
Also Google Fit is not usable for tracking a path. It looses the GPS access a couple minutes after the screen turn off. Only with the locus app im able to do tracking.
If there is no solution for this, I have to buy an other phone :crying:
Widgets not updating appears to be an EMUI thing - I had a Mate 10 before this phone and had exactly the same issue.
Thanks both. I did eventually find the following thread (funnily enough in the Mate 10 forum)... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/help/widgets-stop-updating-t3703572
As I have no other need to root my phone, I don't really fancy doing so in order to freeze the system process that some have had success with. It was highlighted that this appears to specifically be an issue with scrolling widgets within EMUI 8, which seems to fit with my experience, and is also apparently present in the stock launcher. I have for now switched Nova to auto rotate, as then rotating the home screen appears to refresh all widgets. Bit of a rubbish workaround, but does work.
I haven't got any further with the daily wallpaper issue, and currently have to manually update.
The issue that I couldn't remember before is that when sending SMS via MightyText the sent SMS doesn't appear on my phone. However, this appears to be a problem across all recent EMUI devices for which there doesn't appear to be any reasonable fix. Let's hope Google hurries up with adding web messaging to their Messages app, and then that can become my default SMS app.
Is there any official Huawei/Honor community where we, their customers, can log bug fix requests?
I have the widget update problem. It's a right pain for the news ones I mainly use. Tried auto rotate in Nova on BBC Sport and that didn't work. The update icon/button gets stuck, constantly swirling.
If I keep the phone I'll probably root since, looking at other Huawei phone's threads, my confidence in them fixing it any time soon is pretty low.
As I've had this issue on the Mate 10 as well - this is an annoying issue that Huawei don't seem to want to fix.
I've also noted a silly amount of permission setting (in some really random places) so allow things to run in the background. It can be in more than one place. I don't know what the Chinese obsession with background app killing is, but this means my phone often doesn't tell me I have messages or emails until I unlock it. My bluetooth trackers and Huawei Watch don't sync.
Might be time to move to a Xiaomi or Oneplus.

TBH you might go from one set of annoyances to another with these brands. All OEMs seem too busy adding gimmicky features rather than concentrating on getting the basics right. You can get more bog standard than properly working widgets!
Huawei seem to have (unnecessarily) doubled down on Android's battery optimisations and permissions. From what was some years ago a bit of a Wild West in these areas, it's now gone far to far the other way.
I had an OP5T for a few days, loved it but OLED screen gave my eyes/head grief. So anything OLED is probably a no-no for me.
G6 I had briefly last year, just didn't get on with it and the screen had really uneven brightness. LG seem incapable of getting phones right these days.
Anyway, I'll persist for now. I'm happy to root just for AdAway and Titanium Pro.
After having the phone a few weeks now, I can say I've had the same bluetooth issues as the OP. I use Muzecast as a personal music server and randomly lose the ability to pause while on speakers. NB - volume continues to work fine.
Heard the mini skips or glitches too, infrequent but noticeable.
Hi all, I'm a very unhappy bunny right now, bought the P20 last year on Vodafone UK. All was fab, loved it. I received an OTA pie update and now many of my apps aggressively closer in the background if they're off focus. Particularity hard for browser pages with a login. The app reloads and I have to log in, again, and again. It has rendered it effectively unable to multi task. (Much like me really). Even as I type this I'm afraid of losing the screen as I received WhatsApp messages. What am I doing wrong? It must be met since I can find no other instances of my problem anywhere.
Cheers
Mark
Anyone able to offer any advice here?
have the same problem. Multitasking on 8.1 worked like a charm, now with pie it sometimes closes my Spotify even if there are 2gigs of ram available
Same problem here, haven't found any solution to this problem yet
I changed the App-Starts to manuell and back to automatic and it seams to work for now...
That's simple. You can control your app activity simply by using Battery Optimizer and set permissions from automatic to manual. Also in System Settings type "ignore battery optimization" you will see a list of apps that are allowed to be ignored while the phone falls asleep or being optimized and you can add more apps if you need to and allow them to be ignored.

I'm think about rolling back to 8.1
Rolled back to 8.1 everythings fine now. Hopefully Huawei will fix this problem with pie
Well to tell you the truth guys I just have received an update to EMUI 9 and I don't face any issues at all, I have apps which I need to be running in the background and as I stated before I just moved the badges in App launch section from Automatic to Manual and it's all ok as on EMUI 8.
My chinese Mate 9 with stock ROM running EMUI 9 (which I got through OTA) now sleeps on new Youtube app.
It doesn't matter if the video is playing fullscreen or not, first the screen dims and then shuts off, like when no app is opened and you don't interact with it.
Youtube app version: 14.25.57
Battery optimization disabled for youtube app
All permissions granted for the app
Application start settings manually set to all-enabled (background start, boot time start, secondary startup)
Has anyone encountered the same problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Nothing? Nobody has faced this?

Hi Zikabg, many people is having problems with EMUI 9:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Huawei/comments/b026t8/help_emui_9_youtube_sleeping/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/emui-discussion/emui-bugs-and-issues
People report having no answers from Official Huawei, through HiCare or any other means.
I think they rushed Android 9 out because of USA's ban, to show customers we shouldn't worry... but they hadn't polished it yet.
Anyway I want to be able to watch youtube on my phone without having to set screen off time to 30 mins or so
Last YouTube update released yesterday solved the problem. Couldn't find how to mark this thread as solved
