Nexus 5 Calls Not Connecting - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody has problems with Calls not connecting on Nexus 5 even when the phone is showing full signal? I have been having this problem for a long time! I dial any number then even before the dialing tone starts the call simply disconnects!

I've never had this problem. Here are the suggestions I can come of:
- Use the default caller app if you're using a third-party one.
- Enter safe mode to see if any apps are interfering with calling.
- Google if other people are having the same problem as you with your telephone provider.
- Reset app and cache data for your caller app (I reckon this may delete things like call history and perhaps even contacts, although I'd guess those are stored elsewhere).
- Reset the phone, preferrably after taking a nandroid-backup if possible.

[Q] Google Voice, Obi, Samsung Galaxy II, and TMobile

A while back, we got an Obi 201 device and got rid of our ridiculous $65/month basic landline (we live in the sticks). I signed up for a Google Voice number and got everything working. The Obi works great with the same phones we used for our landline, just wireless Panasonic things.
I also set up the Samsung Galaxy II thinking it would be great to have that phone ring with the same number.
We're supposed to be able to use the Obi app for Android to call home when we're away, or to allow the kids to call us. While the kids can call us no problem, we can almost never get the Obi app working where we can call from the cell to home. It's really inconvenient at times.
So I decided to just go back to using the regular Tmobile number on the cell phone.
First, I changed the google voice app so that it wasn't responsible for making outgoing calls. This didn't work. I still heard the little google voice chime whenever I made a call.
Next, I uninstalled the google voice app entirely. Still no dice, weirdly it still chimes the google voice noise when I make an outgoing call. And trying to call home using the google voice number just takes me to my voice messaging system. I can't ring the Panasonic phones.
I go into Google Voice on my desktop and uncheck the cell phone number so it won't forward the calls. I restart my phone and try to call the google voice number, which should now ONLY be forwarding to the Obi machine - but I'm *still* getting the google voice chime and it takes me to voice mail rather than the home phones.
The only other thing I can think of is that in the Obitalk website the cellphone is entered, but it doesn't give me any way to delete it, and the status is 'red' suggesting it's not working.
What in the world do I need to do to this dang phone to get it to simply use the Tmobile number? It's rooted.
I searched everywhere and couldn't find anyone with this same problem. I hope I'm being super dense and missing something obvious, because this is a bit nuts.
Thanks!
You may need to reinstall the Google Voice app and go through the settings. Disabling mobile data should successfully force the phone to use old-fashioned cellular for calls. If so, then something's telling your phone to make VOIP calls over mobile data.
Also, check the settings within the phone app.

I have done all of that. Uninstalling the app completely - to the point where I can no longer find any reference to it in the phone settings, STILL calls out with that blasted google chime.
I reinstalled the app, and set it to never make calls with google voice, and it still calls out with the google chime, resulting in a total inability to call home - it goes straight to voice mail, thinking I'm calling myself.
I tried to delete my mobile number from google voice's website, but it says the account *has* to forward somewhere, even though my husband's google number does not forward anywhere.
If I un-check the mobile number to stop forwarding calls in the google voice website, calls stop coming to my OBI device, resulting in no home calls ringing, and the cell STILL calls out with that number.
I'm ready to throw this phone in the street and run over it a few times with the car. AUGH.
Should I just do a factory reset? I don't have any data that needs saving. I just want this stupid phone to be able to call my house when I'm out.
If that's the case, then go ahead and do that.

I did, but it didn't help. I begged for help on the Obitalk forums and finally found the setting I needed to change. For anyone else having this issue:
1. Add your t-mobile (or cell number) to Google Voice as a contact. Then, edit the google voice settings in the contact and make sure only 'ring google voice' is checked.
2. Then, go to the phones tab in the settings, and at the bottom click the 'edit' button. It's gray and hard to see. From there, click "advanced settings" and under voicemail check "no."
This will allow the cell phone to ring the Obi / google voice home number. Hooray.

Lollipop Caller ID Pictures on Incoming Call?

I have received many phone calls since I upgraded to Lollipop, and so far every call that I've had has a blank caller ID picture appear even if there if a picture assigned in contacts.
It was working yesterday, and when I changed the animations to .5x that is what caused it to not work. I changed back to 1.0x but it is still not working. Any ideas? Running D6616 T-Mobile Lollipop, do not want to reset phone again!
Did you disable Tmobile Name ID? Mine having the same problem but enabling the Tmobile Name ID fixed it.

interesting. I tried but it didn't work.
It was working yesterday, this is insane! Now whenever someone calls me the pics is always an empty orange field, instead of their assigned picture
EDIT: Just did another reset and now its working as advertised
Unrelated but has anyone noticed that in conjuction with pictures not showing up, it also randomly shows same as home, work, mobile in the call log?
This is the correct fix. Freakin T-mobile Name ID app must have hooked into the IncallUI apk somehow. If anyone disabled, or deleted, the T-Mobile Name ID app, you need to re-enable or restore that app back for your caller photo to work.
I re-enabled T-Mobile Name ID, cleared data for it as well as Contacts and Contact Storage, allowed the phone to re-sync all my contacts, and I still get the orange calling screen instead of the contact photo. Not sure what else to try short of factory resetting, which I'm not going to do over something so trivial. Blah.
looks like the tmobile caller id app and the animation settings are linked to it, weird. I just did a master reset and left those as stock and everything works as should...

I can not call via messenger (no call icon)

Hi, i have problem with messenger. I can not call or can not accept or hear incoming calls.
My friends see me grey (grey phone icon) and after i turn on more authorization, like call access and etc (weird that it was not automatically allowed), they can see me now blue (blue phone icon).
However i still can not hear or accept calls. I only see "you missed call from..." and i do not have that phone icon in my messenger.
I tried: Reinstall, clear data = does not work.
I have Nexus 5 and i use Full Disk Encryption. My OS is: 6.0.1
I remember that it worked and i was able to hear calls and etc.. , but i do not know what changed, because it does not work now
Here are pictures, without that blue phone icon I tested it with active friend and nothing. So problem is not, that they are not active at that time.

Thank you for help. I would like to solve it, since this is complication for me.
Nobody knows?

Block callers?

The phone app that came on my Phab2 Pro is not Google's and it doesn't seem to have any way to block spam callers. Anybody else have this problem & how can I fix it?
BTW, I tried installing the real phone app (http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...gle-phone-7-0-140755802-android-apk-download/) but it fails with the message "Parse error".
I installed the Asus contacts and Dialer from the play store. It does just fine for now.
I use Truecaller app. I googled 'best Call Blocker for android" and Truecaller came up on top of several review list.

Using Asus contacts & dialer and, when calls come in, phone rings but no answer screen shows up. I can't answer the call. Ideas?

I'm still using it and I have not had any issues. Has it worked at all for you? If so I'd probably Uninstall apps that you've installed since. If not then maybe start with a fresh install and put that on first. Since you have the same phone it has to be an app conflict.
I use Google Voice, I will never give out the phone number that my carrier assigned me. I only give out my Google Voice phone number, you can block callers or mark as spam. I did like one feature that comes with P2P phone app, the ability to record an active call and it will record both sides of the conversation.

Me too, no problems blocking with Google Voice. Problems with the cell line. Trash marketers programatically continuously dial all possible phone numbers, noting which are activated, without regard to whether or a not lines are cellular. Numbers that are answered progress to stage two, spam calls.

Tried backing out apps but no joy. Wiped phone and now all works. Think the problem was related to removing the SD card last week to make room for 2nd SIM.

Ahh, might have a solution for you. Back in the days before cell phones were popular, landlines ruled the earth with cassette tape answering machines. I would get the same trash and telephone marketers with their systems listening for the caller to say hello and connect you to their marketers, if no one picked up then their system would call until someone picked up. BUT! if that same system got a certain signal it would remove the phone number from their call list.
this link is automated recording of a disconnected or number not in service. Save this as your voicemail greeting, the tones you hear at the beginning are what tell their system that the number is not in service and remove you from their list.
How to block number in lenovo phab2 plus??......it has no option for privacy in settings and call details also does not show any options to block

Callers loosing every other word/cutting out.

Purchased an S7 AT&T version for my GF. Its running on straight talk and has Android 7.0
Callers (including me) are constantly complaining that they can't hear her. It's like every other word gets lost. She can hear the caller fine.
I turned off the HD voice options - no help.
Looked everywhere for the noise reduction/cancellation settings but can't find it.
The case she has is wide open at the bottom, not just a pin hole for the mic.
Here are my next steps please reply if you have any other thoughts.
- Record and play back audio to make sure the mic is ok.
- Somehow compare cell signal strength to another phone in the same location.
-Call using "hangouts" (think this uses mobile data instead of cell signal for call)
-Use a bluetooth head set for call.
- try a different sim??
- Hate to do it but backup and do Factory reset.
Thanks for any help
Clear the cache and data of the phone/contacts apps
