Weird Wifi Problem - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Just got my new OP6 and i love it, especially the nocth . But one problem i`m facing is that the Wifi sometimes after it gets "dozed" out it doesnt turn back on. Only a reboot can help. ANyone else experiencing that problem?

Have you already updated your device to 5.1.5 via OTA?
You can find the update here -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/oneplus-6-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3792244

Seriously, sounds similar like the bug from Lineage OS in OPO but the other way round. My OPO while leaving a wifi coverage area, will not be able to switch to mobile data. It just shows an X on mobile data. Only fix was to reboot. The issue happened while I was connected to a 5GHz wifi though, and soon after switching to 2.4GHz wifi, I did not face the issue anymore. I know your device is the newer OP6, but maybe you can try to observe when exactly does the issue happen. Only at office, home and etc? And what is the wireless freq band 2.4 or 5 just to verify if it has anything related.

Did you start experiencing the issue before or after the update?

I don't know, I updated immediately to 5.1.5
The problem has been happening consistently during the few last days, in my Wifi advanced options it used to be Wifi always on , i changed it to no in the keep wifi during sleep
So now whenever the phone sleeps more than 10 minutes and disconnects from the wifi , when I use it again it does not connect to the wifi and when I go into wifi options I can't turn the wifi On. If I wait for 4 -5 minutes with the screen on, the problem resolves itself and a restart solves it immediately
Edit: this Problem has been happening for a lot of OnePlus 3 3t 5 5t users ...

I see, thanks for clarifying your case. So in your situation, it most likely started after changing the "Keep wifi on during sleep". Did you try to revert that setting and verify if issue still persist? Not sure if OP toggled this same setting as well.
EDIT: Found this reported in oneplus forum with regards to op6.

Wifi dozing off after some period of inactivity on phone.
Hi,
I have the same issue of wifi dozing off after some period of inactivity. The wifi symbol always shows that the wifi is connected. And I have the setting of "keep wifi always on during sleep". I found this issue on my new phone I bought, a month back. Customer service were very quick to send a replacement phone. But I can see this issue on the new phone too. I need to turn off my wifi and turn it back on many times in the day to get my messages and emails or to browse online. Whatsapp calls don't get through too. I have checked this issues with 2.4ghz and 5 GHz WiFi networks. My phone is currently running on OS 5.1.8. I think OnePlus customer service has created a ticket for this issue. Kindly let me know if anybody had this issue and got it resolved.
I love the phone. I would hate to not be able to use it.

I have the exact same problem!
I thought it to be my router/access point so actually set up a completely new router and access point (which was overdue anyway), but problem is still happening.
Every other wifi device works fine.
Also on OS 5.1.8

Hello, i have upgrade to the 5.1.9 and i have the same problem. When i was with 5.1.8 wifi works fine. Did you solve the problem? Thanks

Hi guys, I've got a OP6 5.1.9, android 8.1.0, I was having the same problem. I tried everything ;reboot, plane mode, turn off and on router, change to wifi setting to static... but all didn't work.
Then I thought of changing the SSID Name (wifi network name) and now I can connect my phone.
Hope this solution works for you.

I am on Android Pie beta 3 and still facing the same issue.

Possible Solution!
Phone: OnePlus 6 - Android 9.0 pie
Just came across this problem starting last week. It initially started by connecting to 5G wifi when I got home from work but not the internet. Switching to 2.4 worked then back to 5G also worked. Yesterday nothing worked, not even neighbors wifi for work wifi. Tried everything on here and what google suggested but as most of you nothing worked. Today I found a solution..
1.) Open SETTINGS
2.) Go to SYSTEM
3.) Go to RESET OPTIONS
4.) Open Wi-Fi, MOBILE & BLUETOOTH
5.) Click RESET SETTINGS
6.) Enter Password and re-click RESET SETTINGS
DISCLAIMER:
It DID NOT reset my apn or mobile settings to default on Tmobile. Phone worked just fine and reconnected immediately to the mobile network. WIFI now seems to be working just fine. Hope this helps some of you!

Nexus 5 Wifi Issue

So I've had my Nexus 5 for roughly around a month and I hadn't experienced any issues others have had with wifi not connecting until now. My N5 will show im connected to my home wifi with full bars, but going into quick settings shows it to be orange. Suggesting there's no data transfer, I cannot use any internet based apps with wifi. I've tried some suggestions, switching my router off then on, rebooting the phone, turning some settings off in the advanced panel in wifi settings. All have failed.
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if anyone has a fix to it.

There was a thread around here somewhere that suggested turning off your mobile data helped fix this problem, I think it was in the N5 General forums.....here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550690
Don't know if it'll help or not, just saw your thread and had just looked at the other one, figured I'd toss it out there.
Thanks for the reply, just tried that solution but still no luck.
I have a similar problem except that there are phases of wifi not working.
Sometimes I would have around 20-30 seconds of WiFi not working and there would be no data transfer.
Speeds are still fast when it is working however.
I played a little with only using mobile data and no wifi, and everything worked. (Small sample size however).
Seems like this is a WiFi only issue.
So somehow overnight the wifi has managed to fix itself, will report back if the problem returns.
The issue with the wifi returned unfortunately.

Don't know if you've tried this but change your WiFi frequency band in advanced setting to either "5 GHz only" or "2.4 GHz only," whatever your router uses. Might be worth a try.
Thanks for the help, but I've tried changing some settings in advanced wifi settings but it hasn't worked. Even what you recommended I've tried that before and it didn't work.
wifi issue
Also I have the same issue - Im connected to router by wi-fi, home and work and time by time (5x a day) wifi stops working. Wifi is enabled in settings, but there is no connection. Restart the cellphone helps, but after that, maybe an hour, it appears again.
Issue was in 4.4 and still appers in 4.4.1.
Yet did not found how to solve it.
I have the same issue on my gnex running shiny 4.4, but I also had the same issue on 4.3. Tried the wifi options, nothing worked. Unfortunately, no solution for this device that has to last one more week. The double swipe down and tapping wifi gets the connection back, but it is only a work around.
The N5 connects seamlessly to my home and work wifi. A few days ago, I flashed the hammerhead factory image, TWRP and the 4.4.1 update.

Hey,
I have the same problem with 4.4.2.(factory rom, no root or not unlocked). Sometimes the wifi not works and get orange. I must put airplane mode to fix it. Its annoying.
But as well happens to me:
When I go out from office or home (where I have wifi connections saved in phone) the phone automatically switch to data plan from carrier. But when I come back the phone stays with data and there is not automatic switch to wifi. Sometimes it help to put wifi off or always airplane mode on/off for a while.
I do not know if it is normal behave of android but I would like have automatic switch to wifi.
I tried to change wifi details (changing bands, etc.) but not helped.
Please help. Thank you.
Is custom ROM or kernel will fix it??
For some unknown reason, as soon as I updated my router's firmware, the problem disappeared.
Updated Android 6.0 solved the issue

So I had the unfortunate experience of having my wifi go down while on vacation and for 3 weeks I spent a good chunk of time wiping and reinstalling multiple versions from Cyanogen, Paranoid android and 4.4 - 5.1 to no avail. I just did another factory wipe today and installed the new Android 6.0
The Finger Pointing Game is OVER

There was never any hardware issues with my unit I just couldn't turn on the WiFi but after the install WiFi works? I have a similar issue. Since Lollipop my phone almost never automatically connects to my WiFi anymore. What's wrong?

[Q] Wifi "stuck" requiring reboot

Hi,
I've noticed that my XT1032 sometimes has its wifi "frozen".
What happens is that I'll be out and about and perhaps connect to wifi hotspot at a coffee shop.
When I get home, my wifi is "stuck" and still thinks it's seeing the wifi networks from when I was out. If i run a wifi analyzer app, it reports still seeing the wifi hotspots from when I was out.
Turning off wifi and turning it back on doesn't help.
I need to reboot the phone for the wifi to work properly and see and connect to my home network.
Anybody else getting this behaviour? Anybody have any suggestions on a fix?
no need to reboot,

Same here!!
I also have the same problem. In addition, what I noticed is - I turn off the WiFi in Settings page and when I go into Settings->WiFi, it shows that the WiFi is turned ON. Now if I turn it OFF here, again when I come out, in Settings page it shows that the WiFi is turned ON. This goes on and on until I reboot.
It's probably a software issue
If you are rooted, then install a good and stable custom rom and you are good to then
Sent from my MT27i using xda app-developers app
I think that's the same behaviour as on my phone and probably why turning WIFI off and then on again didn't fix the issue -- it probably didn't really turn the WIFI off whereas I'm guessing that putting it into/out of Airplane mode actually does disable and reenable the WIFI.
I can live with the Airplane mode trick -- much better than needing to reboot!

I have the same issue, but with another irritating problem:
It ereases all my previous saved wifi network.
I cant stand this. rebooting the phone always makes me loose all my previous saved wifi network. Did this happened to you guys, too ? I will try airplane mode and see if it stops erasing.
Hope kit kat solves this Sh*t
6 days since I moved into KitKat and no issues with WiFi so far. Hope it stays the same way

Me too!
Same issue for me. Doesn't happen often - but sometimes it does the same thing with my cell network connection. Also fixed with a quick airplane mode and back.
No one know a fix or at least the reason?
Chris

Are you also facing this Lillipop WiFi bug ?

After getting N5 updated to the 5.1 update whenever my phone goes into deep sleep the WIFI turns off (yes I have checked the option to keep WIFI on during sleep). But it's really frustrating as I cant get any update on my mails and on messengers. Tried 5.1.1 custom roms, they are also facing the same problems. Are you also facing this problem ?
Nope, never

I would check your router, I remember a year ago my router started kicking off people for no reason on WiFi.
Found out it wasn't the devices but the router itself so I replaced it after seeing it was faulty even after a reset and now those devices were working fine.
So check your router's firmware, try a power cycle and whatnot.

Wifi connection troubles after update to 6.0

I'm not sure if this is a Nexus 5 problem or a 6.0 Marshmallow problem but the problem occurred after the update to 6.0 on both Nexus 5s for me and my wife.
There seems to be some bug with my phone while it is asleep (screen is off but phone is on). When it is in this mode, it will not stay connected to wifi. For example, when I enter an area that has wifi, my phone will not connect. It will only connect when I wake the phone. And this isn't just a matter of the phone taking a while to connect. It NEVER connects. Before the update, my phone used to make a connection with my home router before I even walked inside. Now, I can be inside for hours and the phone never connects, until I wake it up. As soon as I wake the phone, the phone makes the connection with no problem. After a few minutes of the phone being asleep, I will wake the phone and the wifi connection will be gone. Now that it is awake again, it connects again with no problem.
I have tried forgetting the network and creating a new one, I have tried different routers, I have tried wiping the cache partition. I haven't tried a full factory reset, and I'd prefer not to, but I guess I will if I have to.
Just thought I would check here first and see if anyone had other thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that is what I thought at first also. I meant to say in my original post that my wifi settings are set to "Always On" during sleep. I've tried toggling that between the settings but still have the trouble.
Sorry, my Nex 5 has not this issue on Android 6 build MRA58K.
Alessandro
Yup, have the same issue. When the phone goes to sleep, it seems to disconnects from the wifi and never connects after I wake the phone. When I go into the wifi settings, I see "WIFI Connection Failure". I have to reconnect manually. Like the OP, have it set to always on as well. I also know it's not a router issue because I've tried this on four different routers (two linksys, one Dlink, one TPLink) All same results.
Wonder if this is a phone issue?

Google upped this to a high priority Friday morning (Nov 6). The bad news is I think there a couple different WiFi symptoms being discussed here. Most of what is being discussed is the issue being discussed here (not reconnecting when the screen is off).
No idea when this will be fixed, so I build a Tasker profile to toggle WiFi every 15 minutes when not already connected to force a reconnect. I’ve observed it getting disconnected on its own overnight. This should avoid unnecessarily using cellular data.
I’m perpetually waiting for the next release of Android to fix annoying bugs.

Thanks for the update Gary. The comment #6 describes my situation exactly. In doing some troubleshooting of my own, I find the disconnection trouble to happen less while on a 5Ghz network vs 2.5. I still have the trouble of it not connecting initially when I come into range, but I find that it is able to hold the connection while asleep.
I am also experiencing this on my Nexus 5 and also found and starred the thread above.
I just listened to 20min of streaming with Spotify to then realize that it had gone into Doze and used the mobile data!
This is more than annoying...
Maybe by disabling Doze for some specific connectivity-related system app? Anyone tried that?
Yes, I moved virtually all of the services type of apps (the ones with the green generic Android icon) to the battery not optimized list. It didn't make any difference for me.
In some ways it seems like it might be a Doze problem, and in other ways it doesn't. Doze shouldn't be affecting anything when the phone is in my pocket and I walk in the house to my WiFi. It also shouldn't be affecting anything when the phone is being charged, which is when I see frequent WiFi disconnects.
It will be real disappointing if this isn't fixed with 6.0.1.
This is still an issue with 6.0.1. Nexus 5 (2013) 6.0.1 MMB29K updated through OTA ZIP pushed with ADB.
Things work properly for a while right after a reboot and then WiFi never connects until the screen is turned on.
Google Connectivity Services C.1.6.7 (2466695) update didn’t make a difference either.
Same problem as the thread starter. HTC A9 anroid 6.0. (newest available OS)
Same problem here with a Nexus 5 .
Please star the problem if you have it.

Has anyone tested with a non-stock kernel ?
I'm asking because the problem seems +/- resolved on CM13 (non caf).
No counting CM13, do you know of a more stable rom with the problem resolved?
Does anyone here have Wemo devices? I am reading that wemos, and possibly other devices that emit their own wireless network, may cause problems. I have several of these devices around the house, and wonder if that might be contributing. However, that only would solve the dropped connection bug I have, not the failing to connect while asleep but I have.
Hi mates, my Nexus 5 (android 6.0.1,M8974A-2.0.50.2.29) gets the same troubles with wifi connection but today I tried to put some apps in non optimized list of Doze and seems workig fine.
Thats my non optimized Doze list:
-Google Play Services
-System UI
Try it and let me know if it works properly.

Welp, that didn't work. Still have the error after not optimizing System UI in addition to Google Play Services.
I don't know if the issue is resolved, but at least for me, it never worked fine so many days after testing some new workaround.
So, this was what I did in my Nexus 5 (latest build, MOB30H).
Uninstall or deactivate Google Connectivity Services, reset your network settings (you will lose your Wifi networks and BT pairings), reboot.
My Nexus 5 has been connecting to the wifi networks even with the screen off for the last 6 days.

Miguun, has the error returned, or still fixed? I just got the May update, so fingers crossed that fixes it. Otherwise, I guess I'll try your fix. I don't look forward to entering the wifi network information again.

Problem - connections fail intermittently with Android 10

Hello everyone,
Ever since I upgraded to Android 10, my connections (mobile, wifi, Bluetooth) go off constantly, always when I'm doing something for a minute or two and then go back on, like someone is turning on airport mode. The upgrade was official (through system updater) and even when OnePlus support flashed some official "rock stable" according to them version, it still happens. Sometimes rarely, sometimes very often, no rule as to when.
Has anyone had this problem, does anyone know what causes it and eventual solution?
Tnx
Go back to pie. Android 10 stinks.
How? According to the support guy, it can't be downgraded, do I have to root the phone?

Tnx

I have similar issue, I have discovered that it is related to mobile data connection, when I turned off mobile data there is no problem with network connections - it is no matter that I have WiFi and mobile data active - problem with losing the signal came from time to time, when I have mobile data off and WiFi signal is stable.
The problems also affect calls - when mobile data is active phone from time to time losing the network signal and disconnecting the call.
Did someone find a solution for that ? I have tried to change someting with APN settings but it is not helping. I have read about this issue on oneplus community but no answers with solution for that

Try downgrade to pie.If the issue still persist may be there is a chance of hardware related.
For me the problem only started happening after Android 10, 9 was all good. Although, the latest 10.3.0 I found on oxygen updater seems to help - doesn't eliminate problem completely but it happens much more rare. I've also discovered it happens more often in specific apps (db navigator is one example, an app for German trains).
Is there anywhere a description on how to restore exactly the factory Android 9? I always get the error "downgrade not allowed..." Even though I have advanced in oxygen updater turned on, thought that was going to solve it.
