Guys,
Stock LG G5 H830
Software 20o
Build NRD90U
Kernel 3.18.31
swappa sealed tmobile H830 like 3 months ago
just couple of days ago main camera was stuck out of focus and cam app crashed everytime
now app just crash
third party cam apps work on the wide angle camera but dont see the main one
selfie camera works
just the main camera dont
googling around i found that many people have that same issue
looks like it was the big flaw on the H830
so, i am tempted to replace the main camera module and see what happens
there is a couple of places that sell the cam module for 39.99 and even one at 19.99
but, i dont think is the OEM one, maybe a knock off
or i can get a fair condition G5 and remove the camera to replace mine
any recommendations will be appreciated
Peace
Max.

Pheeew!!
i thought for a moment that i was the only one with the issue
i ordered a cam module also and will arrive today
so, im next to the mailbox waiting for the delivery truck!
hope that the replacement procedure will be not that hard
however i am not sure if the module is OEM or no and if the modules are "married" to the main board in anyway
looking forward to know your results
Peace
Max.
Ok, so i just installed the new camera module
and
same thing
camera app crashes every time
and with a third party cam app ( open cam )
i can only access the wide angle 8m camera and the front selfie camera
What i will do next is to do the factory reset
i will loose all the apps and configurations
im guessing that was my 1st move instead of ordering a new 16m camera module
maybe the one i removed its good
or is a big flaw on the motherboard
i will keep you guys posted
Max.
Ok
bad news guys
the factory reset wont helped
the camera app keeps crashing as soon as i press the icon, Main camera dont work
anymore even with the new camera module i just received
I use to have a G4 that was hit by the bootloop issue
now a G5 with defective main camera
i dont like SAMSUNG at all... but looks like i will need to reconsider it
LG have gave me nothing but a bad aftertaste
And i love the G5 camera and overall the whole phone
but when it was working 100%
i cant stand the look of the quasi fish eye of the wide angle camera
so i need a working main camera
i dont know if to get those FAIR condition SWAPPA phones or ditch the G5 platform entirely
what you guys think
any recommendations other than the G5
Thanks for letting me vent
Max.

Hey so you got the Fulmics room
is it good ?
bad thing is that you loose the LG cam app right ?
its not the sensor but the software that make the pics to come up nice with the LG cam app
Can somebody port the LG cam app so it can be used with other rooms
that would be soo good
and not... havent installed with the KDZ
what do i need to do , can you point me to the thread to do an H830 KDZ restore
can i donwgrade ? i am not rooted and dont have the custom TWRP installed

Hello guys. I have the lg g5 with the same problem. The problem is the oil inside of the camera that lubes the mechanical zoom. It is of cheapest grade and the heat of your pocket and sunlight make the oil break down and almost sieze the mechanism like a car engine. But there is a temp fix only. Buying more cameras is not the solution because they still have the same scrappy oils.
The temp fix::
So first open the camera app.
Bring it to wide angle first
Then try zooming in sonit switches to normal camera
Obviously it will still be out of focus so next you have make a fist. Trust me sounds crazy. Ok so you will give it a smack on the back near the cameras but when smacking it make sure not to break anything. Its only to give the camera a jolt downwards to release the mechanism and it will start auto refocusing. Might not work on the first smack..I had to smack it 4 times til I seen the camera refocusing.
Remember this is only a temporary fix!!! I have had to smack the camera several times after when trying to take pictures and videos. But it should work for those few moments to capture a scene or a pic. Good luck...if you would like to see a video on how I smack the phone properly let me know directly on my email.

Thank you for contacting Google. This is not a good thing or a bad thing, but just a feature inherent in all cameras. The camera will focus on whatever object you point it at and will remain focused until another object enters the field of view and then the camera will try to adjust it focus to encompass the new object in its field of view. Foe example, when you are video taping a football game and you are focused on the cation on the field and then another fan walks in front of you and this disrupts the camera's view and its focus while that person is walking across the field of view. I hope this explains what is going on for you and I will be happy to continue to answer your questions.
Yup i ser the same problem im in canada and bought it from google play store.. Any fix? Is it hardware prob? I think mine is the first batch coz i ordered it after three days it was released
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
As far as I've found out its not a problem its just how the phone is
It focuses on anything that comes next to it
I just need to confirm
This
So any nexus 5 user ?

dude first of all relax its not a very very big problem but it is indeed even my nexus 5 zooms in and out when it tries to focus on things but not this much this is just to much zooming i would suggest u to update to 4.4.2 and try again if the problem persists then dont worry just return the piece
Hello
I did update it the day I bought the phone
I formated the phone yesterday to factory settings
It works fine and then it tries to focus if anything comes
In the way
So shall I return the piece ? Or is it ok ?
Any more suggestions people?
That is 100% normal, the same thing happens to mine as you can see here: (video recorded with my nexus 5)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaNOmMX6Hkg&feature=youtu.be
Don't worry.
Omg finally
Thanks for the reply ! Feels a lot better
Anyway I can turn it off? Its very irritating
So my phones perfectly normal right?
Happy new year friends !!
hi i got my edge from t-mobile unlocked and I am using foreign country.
everything is working perfect except camera focus issue,
i can not go t-mobile to return it because airplane ticket will be more expensive
it's working after shaking phone, sometimes i have to shake more then few seconds...
so i suspect it's not hardware problem, if i install other rom from other countries (instead of t-mobile one) should it will be fixed?
or is there anyway to fix this problem?
Thanks
I'd call T-Mobile have them pay to replace it. I cracked my note edge paid insurance for a brand new one and had camera focusing problems. The camera lens could be seen moving around in circles and making noises. But T-Mobile ended up sending me a new one.

You better try to reduce the resolution for pictures , I had that problem when I tried to make a shoot in high resolution pictures , mostly phones are set up at highest resolution from factory

Now it's a goood time to ask for a replacement or repair. Your optical system has moved. Your camera module needs to be replaced asap. I am 100 percent that is the faul as I experimented that with a note 3 camera.

Try reaching out to Support (from within the phone)? They should offer some help.
Or, see if there's any service test menu available for the pixel? (Google search not helpful, I'm afraid).

Spoke to support they said they was going to send out replacement details in post etc, Followed to tell them my screen had a slight crack in ( Just glass ) which apparently voids all warranty ?
Oh fudge... And I suppose there's no insurance to fall back on.
This is annoying.
No luck with the service test codes?
Tried factory reset?
Don't tell them it these things (slightly cracked screen).

Yeah tried everything still can't get it to work,
Is there any sensors on the front of the screen that could be affecting the cameras function at all? I can replace the screen but it's no good if my camera won't work.

Have you asked google if they will honor the warranty if you have the screen replaced? They were willing to do that for me when I came across my microphone issue, so that may be an option for you.

Yes likely it would, paying to replace it and have a fully working phone would be better than replacing your screen yourself and still having issues no?
I was going to say spend fifteen bucks and grab a camera from ebay, would be a cheap and easy possible fix, but I can only find one camera online and they want $90 for it. pfft. My next suggestion would be to take it apart and disconnect/reconnect the camera(s). Last Resort of course, but it sounds like you might be there already. You can nuke a ziplock bag of water to soften the glue tape around the screen. And get a micro torx set from whatever your walmart equivalent is (you will want at least two torx t5 bits) Teardown vids all over youtube.

Thanks for the reply, Can't take my screen out as it would literally fall apart from the top right now. Just don't see how this could effect the rear camera when the front one is inside the screen damage area, And front cam also works on third party apps just not the rear one.
Was going to unlock the bootloader and reflash the ROM but as it's on 7.1.2 it's impossible right now so it's just a matter of replacing the screen then cleaning/ reconnecting the camera
Hi to all!
I'm experiencing a weird issue with then main rear camera, not the wide one...and the problem is that the camera most of the times refuse to focus properly the scene, resulting in a blurry photo.
As you can see on the attached photos, i've just taken a random shot opening the camera app, touch to focus and then shoot...with a blurry one.
Then...i've done a weird thing: just tapped with my fingers close to the camera lens, taken another shot...and then camera focused properly the scene...
I've cleared cache of the camera app, reset settings of camera app...went into safe mode and taken many other shots...with the focus problem that was present on two of almost 6/7 shots...
The phone it's less than a month old...and taken a little hit near my desk, but nothing dangerous or dramatic...could be this the cause?
Anyone can help?
I am also facing focus problems
When trying to focus nearby subjects it won't focus at all. Tried testing it alongside an S10 and the S10 got into focus without any effort, but my S10e did not even properly focus objects 10cm away. Wonder if it is a software issue or a hardware one.

In my experience, close objects was focused properly...but distant objects/scenes/landscapes was absolutely like an oil paint...completely distant from what advertised by Samsung and tested in many and many reviews.
Seems like an hardware issue, i really don't think it depends by a software glitch...

Having the same issue with an S10E bought in Australia.
Tried everything: clear cache and reset app, even a full reset did not work.
I've just installed the June's update and the touch focus is no go.
Have you had any improvements since you've posted this issue?

Yes.
Simply had to return the phone to Samsung repair center and asked for a replacement.
They tried first to repair the camera, which obviously didn't worked, then gave me a new phone.
End of story. As I expected, an hardware issue.

Do you know if Samsung tried to change the camera module or the hardware problem is elsewhere ?
I've left the country where I bought it and I'm pretty sure there is no international warranty, so my only option is to buy a new cam module.

Yes, they've tried to change camera module at first, but the problem isn't there, I think there was something related to the mechanism of the automatic lens aperture which maybe it's not only depending by the camera module (don't know if I was clear on that).
But, honestly, for a phone oly 15 days old, they just have to change the phone, not try to repair and maybe try again before the replacement.

hello guys,
so i just bought this zenfone 6 several days ago,
i noticed the problem with the flip camera, each time i switched to selfie mode, camera flip up and says camera cannot flip, so the camera position is in selfie position, but the image is inverted.
i tried 3rd party apps like gcam and open camera , it still shows camera cannot flip, but the image is not inverted.
any thought on this? i already run the camera calibration.
thanks before.

Are you using a screen cover or protective glass?

hi jis, thanks for the reply,
i didnt use any cover or protective glass.
this morning i brought the device to the service center and they said it was the camera motor problem.
strangely, if i managed to hold the camera a bit before it fully flipped, the image isn't inverted, i guess this is a temporary fix until the new motor parts from the service center come.

If I understand you correctly, you say that the service center wants to repair the motor of the device. Frankly speaking, I would not accept this but would demand either a completely new phone or a refund. I don't think it is a good idea to have a new device opened and tinkered around with just after I bought it. I would expect it to be functional completely. In fact, you are losing value right away if they repair it. (just my opinion)
