i already did everything i know to figure out
i clear cache all teh time on the phone and on apps like facebook and other heavy apps
i keep the internal memory below 50% use
phone is almost 2 years old and worked flawlessly for a year and a half.
always wore a case never actually dropped it but suddenly it started lagging and slowed down noticeably
then few weeks ago it got even worse. apps hang all the time
dont update dont respond
for example besides being slow facebook and instagramm and other apps would not load updates or internet would not load pages
facebook wont load new comments and says retry connection
i close it with the left button menu and reopen and it works again for few hours and does same thing
its very fn frustrating why is there no good diagnostic software for android system after 10 years on the market is beyond me...
im tired of clearing cache and resetting everything. and tired of buying new phones all the time especially when this phone was over 700 dollars. **** like this shouldnt happen on a 700 dollar phone. i would espect a 150 dollar phone from costco to break in less than 2 years but not top of the line phone
I would personally recommend backing up anything on the phone important to you, then doing a full clean flash with Odin using the latest stock firmware. This doesn't require root and won't trip Knox or warranty.
App cache and memory bloat is always something that's affected me on Android, but since I do a full wipe at least once a year because of changing ROM's, my experience usually stays pretty controlled.
is there no way to find out what is causing all this without a complete wipe?
i clean all app cache often and phone cache also
i mean if i have to erase everything all the time and start over whats the point of buying a 700 dollar phone?
is there a clean stock android rom that doesnt have tmobile bloatware?
Pretty much all phones suffer from slowdowns the longer they're used. Especially when they go through OS updates, that's a common complaint for both Android and iOS.
This article generated some buzz the other day suggesting that despite being flash memory, fragmentation heavily affects android performance https://www.tuxera.com/blog/why-is-my-android-phone-slowing-down/
Since you've got TMobile bloatware I assume you have G930T, you can flash the G930U (unlocked version) firmware via Odin and it will rid you of bloatware. Home_CSC if you don't want to wipe data, CSC if you do. Updato.com and sammobile.com to get the firmware.
US models can't use custom roms, so stock G930U firmware is your best bet.
so it sno tthe hardware issue then?
i just feel like every time theres a software update before the release of their new phone my old samsung phone suddenlyslows down to complete crap.
is it just me or anyone else notice that also?
It's a common theory that manufacturers intentionally slow down older phones each new flagship release, but there's not really any proof.
New OS builds can be more resource heavy and built to expect higher resource amounts that older devices might not have, since they're usually made with flagships in mind
Otherwise RAM, CPU's and Storage all degrade over time. Best thing you can do is full wipe each new Android version, so that the OS starts on a clean slate and any optimisations it has can work from the start instead of having to try work with a previous builds bloat.
Besides what was mentioned so far, I recommend you also check your installed apps to see if there are any third party unwanted apps installed on your device.

But I have been reading lots of things and am still not exactly sure what the benefit of installing a rom is. I am on t-mobile pre paid, so I am only getting EDGE for the moment. So speed is not going to be an issue, because I am limited by my network.
My battery has to be charged maybe 2 times a day. That is an annoyance, and that is one thing I think will be benefited by the rom.
I have never had a smartphone. So I am just learning what my phone is actually capable of doing. I am sure I do not even know a fraction of what my phone can do, but I am loving all the neat apps I have gotten. Living wallpapers, games, virtual guitars.....google sky map (which is amazing btw),
And I have been seeing all of these themes, and tweaks. The themes I think I understand, but can I even install a theme if I have stock system?
I know this is all preferences, but some suggestions and advice would be appreciated......
The benefit as I see it is basically getting a refined and more efficient OS onto your phone. Stock phones tend to come with a lot of bloatware that can both slow down the phone and take up space, not to mention that some items can also draw away the very limited amount of battery we already have to begin with.
Generally it also opens up the phone even more to being able to do additional things that require root access, etc. The way I think about it, in a very general and broad scope, is like buying a PC from a store and just using out of the box versus taking it home, formatting it, and then putting on a scaled down version of Windows (or other OS) that doesn't have all the added junk. Again, that's a rough example but hopefully you know what I mean.
Even when my phone was stock, I didn't have to charge it twice a day.
Consider removing some of the 'just for fun' apps and see if that makes a difference in battery life.
Chances are the OP needs to disable the H+ and only activate on E...... twice a day is nuts. I've only seen that on a HTC evo.... I use mine heavyly(spelling?) And only have to charge it when I get home.

Debloating is one of the main things.
For example, one of the DRM services in the stock AT&T ROM is a known battery hog.
The stock Rogers ROM has Carrier IQ, which is basically spyware.
Go ahead and flash yourself a custom ROM, I'm sure that'll help your battery life, because I mean 2 times a day is CRAZY, even on the Inspire's 1230mAh battery, it'll live all day (albeit, it'll be close to dead by the end, heavy usage sucks).
If you need help, go ahead and ask, but it's not hard.
so my galaxy s7 phone did it recently
exactly after one year warranty just expired the phone became painfully slow
it was a brand new phone sent from samsung as a replacement for my broken phone replaced under warranty
had zero problems for a whole year and i mean zero like no issues with speed or freezing at all
never dropped or dipped in the water to test the water resistance
always in a case since day one. no crazy apps. actually same exact apps that i have on all my phones.
no new apps were installed before slowdown
i already deleted some apps. cleaned up app cache individually and reset cache from boot screen
tested in safe mode and still slow
im not sure if the update was installed recently or not but the slowdown happened about 2 months ago. was there a tmobile update at that time?
im not really sure.
but this is the third phone that did this.
galaxy s5 that i also bought brand new for a year was well maintained and had no problems
that phone actually started lagging really bad and shutting down multiple times a week or restarting....
before that galaxy s3 did same thing. after exactly a year it became ridiculously slow for absolutely no reason
i install all the apps i use right out of the box. change all the settings to what i want and dont really make any changes after and it usually very stable for about a year
is there an app that i can use to troubleshoot?
or an app that will show me what component is slowing down the system in real time?
obviously something is slowing down the OS, theres gotta be an app that can trace the faulty app or file or component
i cant be the only one who noticed that
is there really no way to pinpoint what is slowing down the phone?
why do i have to reset everything every time it gets slow
isnt there an app that can diagnose what is loading up the system?
this phone is painfully slow suddenly with no apparent reason
Have you been able to view the CPU activity and the RAM allocation?
I am not sure how to do this, but if possible, it might reveal what is happening.
I would try disabling some of the applications one by one. First suspects would be:
1. Facebook
2. Google Play Store.
3. Youtube.
Disable one, then try the phone. If still the same, disable second and try etc.
Jim.
How is your device storage. Once you use more then 50% device storage android starts to lag. It's an issue with the OS.
device storage has always been about the same since brand new. which is about 80% on average.
doesnt safe mode disable all non stock apps? i tried safe mode with same result
windows has a resource monitor that helps alot but i dont know if android has any monitoring app that could help troubleshoot this
Samsung devices are known for getting laggy over time, try a different phone next time, in the meantime, do a factory reset and start fresh.

This is very suspect to me, but I am only a beginner.
Given zelendel's post about (re 50%), I would investigate further. Did you note his credentials?
What does all that data consist of?
What is the total storage capacity of the phone?
Perhaps some of that storage capacity is used as "swap" memory? Just guessing...........I am extrapolating Linux terminology here.
about 10-15 gigs of that is music/videos for airplane or when i have no internet. its been there since i got the phone
other things come and go like downloads documents videos images
im surprised theres no apps to troubleshoot the phone lagging when theres so many people having that problem and the best solution is to just reset the phone. which should be the last resort
if resetting the phone works most of the time then there should be an app that could look for conflicts as it runs in the background.

Depending on the amount of storage in your device that could be a lot.
Resetting the device wipes things. You really can't find an issue if the only issue is storage space. So here is a test. Remove stuff from your device. Give yourself a clean start and then go from there. Adding stuff slowly until it slows down.
I have had dozens of devices and the only time they ever got slow was due to getting low on phone storage.
This even encludes a 5 year old Samsung that I have that is as fast as the day I got it. Mind you there is nothing on it but some games for a kid. I even disabled all of Samsungs crap they install that slows a device down.
Could also be stuff acting up in the background
Run a log cat and see if anything is hanging.
cool thanks ill try that
got my internal memory to under 50%
reset cache again
deleted few apps and moved alot of them to SD card and cleared cache for those too
heres exactly whats happening
theres a delay for every action
2 wifi seems to drop in and out now since it got slow
3 facebook and browser wouldnt load anything on wifi
but as soon as i switch to data it works
i have to restart the phone alot now and close all apps multiple times a day to get them to work
also running safe mode had no effect on speed
i dont know when the last update was from tmobile but it might have been due to crappy update im not sure at this point
i got the phone last end of summer and it worked flawlessly every single day up until last 2 months exactly when warranty expired
how does samsung find faulty hardware when i send it in for service?
do they use an app?
ok this is getting ridiculous.
the phone wen to complete ****
facebook doesnt load posts unless i restert it by closing the app
phone just feels very slow overall.
constantly lags hangs. and in general just completely crappy performance slowly degrading.
i dont know why suddenly it started happening just like my last 3 phones
after about a year theres always a sudden decrease in performance and things start bugging and lagging etc
so theres no way to figure out why its slow?
isnt there some hardware tests or system scan or something that can help point to the problem?
Sorry to read that you are still having this problem Fuzzysig.
Did you try any of the suggestions in my post #4 and/or in Zelendel's post #10?
If so, which ones did you try and what resulted from those changes?

Hi, I was a Samsung user too and faced the same problem.
I went through various threads which gave me multiple solutions: rooting, removing bloatware, cpu monitoring and many more.
None of that worked. The phone was so slow that it was not usable.
Ultimately I had to throw it and buy another phone.
Then I noticed this is not just me, all Samsung users face the same problem even the flagship users.
I swear I'll never buy a Samsung phone and never let anyone buy one.
usually happens after warranty expires or a new device comes out ?
i noticed it on my last 3 samsung galaxy phones.
havent had any other brand or series phones so i cant speak for them
so after about a year and a half my phone.s performance has been slowly decreasing despite my best efforts to keep it clean and organized and doing all the tricks to make it faster.
at the moment it is almost unusable . phone is now a little over 2 years old and is constantly freezing.
I have never dropped it and it was in the case since day one.
I keep same apps on it for 2 years and always to cache cleans and uninstall unused apps
also keep the internal memory under 50% yet none of that seems to help
it just keeps slowing down for some reason
anyone can explain what is goin on?
my laptop doesn't seem to lose any speed with age

Phones use solid state storage, solid state storage decreases efficiency over time, they just break down the more that you install/uninstall/write/delete stuff to/from storage. With the way phones work, it is constantly reading/writing/dumping stuff to/from the cache partition(which is where everything that is loaded runs from and stores live data), this constant activity breaks down the efficiency of the cache partition, which cause lag during usage because it can't read to/from cache as efficiently as when it was new.
Also, as phones advance in hardware capability, certain apps(especially Google Play Services) are updated to the point that they require more from the hardware, older hardware can't run it/them as efficiently. Also, some older phones can't install some of the newer/more updated versions of apps, this leaves them using older versions which somewhere along the line are no longer supported, causing performance issues, especially a reduction in battery life and RAM speeds.
Laptops and PC are effected the same way, some older hardware can't install the newer versions of operating systems, or they can install the OS but certain parts of the software might have issues with certain pieces of older hardware and drivers, it just takes way longer with PC than it does with phones. Usually, the older systems are way past their prime before becomes an issue because users get new systems before they get that old, so they never see the performance issues that older hardware has with newer software.

Hi,
I'm facing a dilemma about Debloating Android vs its benefits like security and time spent on it, my OCD and need your opinion on this.
The very first thing I do when I get a new Android Smartphone or Tablet device, I will debloat them but the insane amount of time it takes me to do it, I don't have anymore because of adult life taking over. When I debloat Android device, I can spend hours upon hours if not days doing it by making a full dump off all the packages installed then inspecting every single one, doing research on them and coming to conclusion if such package is needed or suspicious. I repeat the whole process again when such device gets a major update to the next version of Android, for example, from Android 9 to Android 10.
That behaviour which I would say is my OCD at the moment, obviously is taking insane amount of time to get rid of all the crap and telemetry that have been placed on such device and I'm starting to question if it's even worth it anymore. It sometimes sounds like too much trouble and time is taken from doing it and having a little benefit from it. The main reason for my OCD with debloating is due to the fact that Android devices are Open Source and during manufacturing process it can be infected with Malware so obviously I want to make sure that there are no offending apps on the device that can harm my privacy and data.
The other question is, are there any benefits by performing a debloat ? I know it can speed up the device a little, improve battery life and make more resources available like RAM or Processing Power so that it can be used for the tasks I need to perform on the device rather than wasting it on a crap that is not needed in the background. Also, are there any benefits when it comes to Security ? I know that some Android devices are already coming infected with Malware straight from the factory (Can't post links till I reach 10 posts so I can't link the research ...) This is mostly because of how Android ecosystem works and that the development of software is mostly outsourced to different companies for example in India to reduce the costs of the device.
P.S Currently I have untouched Nokia which have some TWRP and Unofficial LineageOS available, I will try and see if I can unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM, if not, I will need to think if I should go through with debloating it as I don't have much time anymore. I want to finally start using it but I have that dilemma about the whole debloating thing and decided to check with you guys what you think about it.
Hello all. I'm in need of help. I recently tried to update my phone to the May update. It says failed update. Error Code:410. I contacted Verizon Wireless 1st. They couldn't fix it. They connected me to Samsung and they told me it was a carrier issue. any ideas on how to fix it.
if you did a phone call when speaking to Samsung, one other way you can try to get help is reporting an issue on Samsung Members app. The app will pull device logs and determine if some function has failed. The key point is to report soon after seeing the issue, so try to reproduce the error and then submit the error using the app.
Really if your Note is running fast, stable and fulfilling it's mission I would leave it's firmware alone. General and security updates are overrated. An update can easily break it or leave you with a lot less then you had.
Android 11 is Android in a no way out high G flat spin; load it and cry a river of tears.
Even outdated Androids systems rarely get nailed by serious malware unless you do something stupid. My stock AT&T Note 10+ is still running Pie on a load that's a year old. Zero issues. I disabled updates almost a year and a half ago because I knew Q would screw it up.
Sometimes updates really screw up the phone locking it down to make future rooting or downgrading impossible.
In reality a rootkit would cause less trouble; it takes me about 2 hours to do a factory reset and bring the phone back to 99% full functionality as long as the SD card data is intact.
Retaining firmware you like to use is more important than any update unless it enhances your user experience. New OSs keep you off balance with a constant learning curve, forcing you to find new solutions and work arounds.
For what? I would waste far more time migrating to Q then a 2 hour reload would cost me. Worse I loss critical functionality.
At least wait a month or more to see if the update blew up other people's phone
Having no control over OTA downloads is dangerous and can lead to a bad flash or trashware you will hate. Fixing it is time consuming and in some cases impossible; disable auto updates.
Use your SD card as a data drive, only the OS, apps, and download folder goes on the internal memory. Keep everything you need for a reload including copies of your apps on the SD card as well your database of music, vids, pics etc.
Back the SD card up redundantly to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other. Done
