Hey guys ,
I bought my pixel 2 in Germany, however now that I'm living in UK I wanted to flash an UK firmware so i could use Android Pay. Anyone know if I flash an UK firmware I will still be able to get the OTA updates ? And if I will loose warranty?
Thanks in advance.
i could be wrong here but....i would imagine you will have to root your device and then extract the firmware from a UK rom build and flash it. I use to won a one+ before and there was lots of zip files for my old device, my current device pixel 2 is not rooted etc so cant confirm but as i said above could be the way. Someone else whos rooted etc may be able to confirm.

Hi all.
As I said in my previous posts I'm waiting for a operator branded HTC Desire S.
I've read just now that the operator realeased an update few days ago (on 17th of february) and I'd like to know if there is a way to save the update file for future use (warranty purpose mainly).
Infact there is no file for the original brand firmware so if I debrand my phone I'll lose the warranty!
In this case if I can save the update file I can go back to my operator firmware solving the problem!
Thank you in advance!

I think what you'd want in this case is probably a RUU. What it does is basically return your phone completely to stock, removing anything you might have done to it. You can find a list of them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
I would recommend creating a goldcard to reduce the chance of any error and to help it go smoothly if you ever decide to do it.
Hi dan.
I've read that very useful thread but my operator firmware is not listed there.
So I'd loke to know if there is a way to get the image file from the OTA update (I think it's saved somewhere... but I don't know where!)
Can I ask what network branding your phone has? I'm not entirely sure how to download an OTA update for a stock rom so not entirely sure how to get the ROM from it. Maybe someone can shed some light here. I'm not entirely good with RUUs.
On a side note, if you're going to install custom ROMs I would recommend not updating just to make it easier to install custom ROMs.

I'm waiting for a Desire S branded from TIM Italy.
As I said, right now there is no way to find the original branded firmware but now that there is this update maybe it can be catched!!!
Can anyone help me? I have an ASUS Zenfone 6, I checked my device settings and everything from the 'about' menu at settings and it says I have a 1.16 WW firmware. When I downloaded the newest 1.18 WW firmware from support.asus.com and tried to flash it says:
Device image SKU: CUCC
OTA image SKU: WW
And the update fails
I am honestly confused to what's going on here. I thought I have WW with gapps and everything working but suddenly when I try to update I have CUCC? Oh and what's weird is that when I just got the phone SuperSU was synced from my previous phone and I just wanted to check out what happens if I open SuperSU without rooting but when SuperSU opened it asks me whether I want to update the binary normally or from CWM/TWRP! This mind you only happens if you had rooted the phone and ran SuperSU for the first time, surprisingly according to root checker I have root! JUST BY INSTALLING SUPERSU! So I was wondering if my phone was tampered before I bought it? I legally bought it new from a nearby mall with it still complete with the packaging and warranty card, so I'm really confused to what is going on.
Can anyone please please help me, do anyone else who has the WW firmware has anything like this happen when you want to flash the firmware update? I tried to force the firmware update using fastboot, nothing changed, but now my phone won't detect my SD Card and every time I open settings the phone would restart. The only way I can think of to fix this is by flashing a fresh ROM but so far I cannot find a link that has Zenfone 6 stock ROM, only the firmware. I've thought of returning the phone with the reason that I got tricked into buying a CUCC Zenfone instead of the WW that is sold on my region.
Note: I bought the phone in Indonesia and basically there are 2 warranty. One from the official ASUS and another from 'distributor', because the distributor is cheaper I bought that one thinking I'm only having a different warranty and a lack of support from ASUS officials but is it possible this distributor actually sell a modified CUCC SKU that is changed to WW? I've seen some articles/video to switch from TW/CN to WW and it kind of raised my suspicion.
EDIT:
What files do I need from storagecow link in the OP to do a 100% proper flash? The .zip only contains boot.img and system.img but I've heard you need the modem file as well?
There's others on storagecow like patched20fboot.img? rpm.img? tz.img? Should I grab all the files and put them in a zip and then flash? Or should I flash them one by one in a certain order?
I GREATLY appreciate any help. Please note I'm only after official LG firmware, no cyanogenmod or anything.

Hiya. Brand new to XDA forums so I apologize if this has been mentioned before.
I'm gonna make this as quick as I can. I bought an unlocked LG G3 from ebay
Opened it up and turned it on, first thing I did was check for firmware updates because it was still on KitKat. Nothing for some reason. (if you know why please answer in your response)
I'm new to rooting/flashing firmware but I did my best at researching on how to flash it to Lollipop which I successfully did but I had a few small problems afterwards.
Google Chrome refused to update no matter what I tried, taking screenshots wouldn't work and I couldn't delete the firmware files on the internal storage. So I ended up reverting back to the stock KitKat room, unrooted with no TWRP.
This phone is gift to someone so I'd like it to be in perfect working order, but I would like it to run stock LG Lollipop as well as Marshmallow when it comes out soon.
First question is, is there a way to update the firmware with an official LG software or do I have to flash it? I've heard when you're 2 firmwares behind OTA no longer works.
If not, what files do I need from storagecow (I can't post the link cus I'm new) to do a proper flash? The .zip only contains boot.img and system.img but I've heard you need the modem file as well?

You'll have to root, and use a custom stock rom. It'll only OTA update if you insert an active AT&T sim.
im sorry if this is in the wrong section but ,ok so i bought an open box galaxy s6 from becetech online and it would not let me update the firmware past 5.1.1 which made me a bit suss, downloaded root checker app and it came too me rooted. apart from not being able to update the firmware past 5.1.1 as far as im aware the phone has no issues and works perfectly fine. i downloaded the *samsung* phone info app, in general under manufacturer it says Samsung/verizon so im assuming that is part of the reason they rooted the phone as it needed to be unlocked from verizon to be refurbished? so what i want to know is how do i find out exactly what becetech have done to the phone and is there an easy way for me to update the firmware to nougat or at least marshmallow without stuffing the phone, like i said the phones running fine its just really bugging me not being to update. obviously im not able to work it out myself but i can follow instructions so any help from someone would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance.

Could someone with a bit more knowledge please tell me if the reason I can't update the firmware is because the firmware csc is TGY when I'm in Australia or just because it's rooted or what? I'm getting no answers from the company who I bought it off

Are you trying to update via the phone update feature? If so this won't work as rooting disabled the ability Update using ota
First I tried OTA then downloaded samsung smart switch and gave that a go both no good. What I want to know is, if they had to root the phone to refurbish it will it brick it if I try to update? Won't it reset all the company I bought it off has done to it to refurbish it? Which I'm guessing is quite a process as when I look at the open source licenses there's a long list of files that have been changed. It just sucks that it's locked to a three year old version of the firmware that I'm worried apps will start to stop supporting in the near future? Apart from that I can not fault the phone there's been no problems, maybe I'm asking a bit much for a $400 phone?

From what I can tell you have a g920v variant if the phone Shows Verizon but the sure fire way to know what variant you have is turn the phone off once off hold home-power-volume down, this will take you to download mode but should tell you your variant. You don't need to root a phone to refurbish It, you can flash Stock firmwares via Odin. I really don't know why they would have Rooted It tbh, you'd need to contact them, but I know for sure you can manually download the latest Verizon firmware and the phone should work. Maybe they Rooted it as part of making it network unlocked, o really can't say
Ok I tried that and a bright blue screen came up warning about custom OS then press up volume for download and down volume for reset? I just pressed down as there was no other info on the screen but it does say it's a sm-g920v in the settings as well as the root checker app. Another thing was I did ring samsung support gave them the serial number and IMEI and they said an authorized modification had been done on the phone but could offer no other support as it wasn't an Australian phone. I'll keep trying to get some info out of the company I bought it off and try to sort it out thanks for your help :good:

If you modify your phone ( root ) you will loose the option to update ( OTA update ).
If you want to update you phone you will have to download firmware and flash with Odin. Everytime that you update firmware you will have to re-root you phone again.

Generally yes ( mainly with rooting )
You can backup your app/data by using something like Google backup service or smart switch ( PC app ).
Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm not requesteing a completely useless thing cause I haven't found a fix so far. Since it's somehow related to firmware flashing via Odin, I chose to ask in this thread.
I bought my Galaxy S8+ a while ago and carrier unlocked it (It was on Vodafone Romania). Ever since unlocking the carrier, I can't seem to receive any firmware updates for some reason.
Smart switch says I'm at the latest firmware version but according to Sammobile, I'm far from being at the last version. (Still Android 8 on it)
My phone is not rooted (I haven't felt the need to root it so far because it's been doing great). Any ideas how can I fix this and install the latest firmware?
If I download the latest Romania firmware from sammobile (carrier-free version) and flash it through Odin, would it work or I'd encounter a difference because the CSC is Vodafone Romania?
Thanks!
Hey is there a way to root the SM-G975U with security update on july 1, android pie, and a way to unroot? (like the stock rom files)
Thanks
