Need help ASAP S8+ BRICKED - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have modified the system/etc/media_profiles.xml (added a new codec profile) and after that my S8+ is stuck at the flashing Samsung logo.
Unfortunately holding down Volume Up+Bixby+Power does nothing.
If I hold volume down+power then it reboots but again stuck at Samsung logo.
My phone has the latest Nougat (Renovate Ice 7.1 with SuperSU and TWRP).
Please help what can I do?

If you cannot get into recovery which that shouldnt mess with it
The only other option would be to boot to dl mode and reflash stock firmware

What is timing?
I pressing Bixby+VolUP+Power about 20 sec while on Samsung logo and nothing.
STRANGE that if I only press Power it vibrates two times but nothing happens.
What could this could be?

Thanks man, it worked I am in TWRP now.
You saved my day!
BTW why could this media_profile.xml mess up my system?
I added a new video profile to this file to enable 4k video recording to third party apps.
I did the right syntax so WHY could this file do harm to my system?

Not so easy my TWRP backup is on my pc far away from me.
BUT I has this original media_profiles.xml on my sdcard.
Only problem that in TWRP file manager my system folder doesnt show any directory just the "bin" directory so I can not paste my media_profiles file.
How can I solve this?
I am sure my system files is there, because a few days ago I also wanted to copy a file with TWRP file manager to the system folder but also did not show just the "bin" directory.

[Q] Attempted CM11 Upgrade Gone Wrong

So I've installed/changed ROMs numerous times but must have slipped up this time.
Attempted to use TWRP to install CM ROM; got an error (can't recall exactly). Used TWRP option to reboot and now I'm stuck in an endless Asus logo loop.
I can get to the 3 icon screen (RCK - Android - Wipe Data).
What are my options at this point?

Did you upgrade your recovery to a cm11 compatible one first like it says to in the cm11 thread? Either flash your old Rom back or upgrade your recovery to CWM 6.0.4.6+ or TWRP 2.6.3.2.

The tablet drained down to 0% overnight (due to the boot loop). I downloaded your file and transferred it to the microSD card and then plugged in the tablet to charge.

I rooted/unlocked the device more than a year ago; didn't right any of that down so no idea.
Last ROM I was using was a CM build.
Never used fastboot or adb (AFAIK) so no idea if I can; never pulled a logcat - is there a process for that somewhere to follow?
UPDATE - it appears I can get into APX mode - PC doesn't find the drivers so that's my next step. Once done what are my options?
No luck on TF700 APX drivers. Windows sees it as "Unknown Device". Found 1 thread on Google that referenced TF700 APX drivers but the file it links to is gone.

[Q] Recovery Boot Loop Problem

Had a problem. Hope someone with experience can give me a few answers.
Nave new t-mobile Note 3, SM-N900T. Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Touchwiz rooted.
Rooted to enable SDFix to use SD card as I want to use it.
Everything great! No problems.
Thought it would be wise to have a Nanoid backup.
Opened Rom Manager and made One change in prefrences. I set it for external SD card storage. (mistake?)
Went to 'Backup current Rom' in Rom manager, started it and it started to reboot. Shut down and restarted in a 'Recovery' boot loop??
No matter what I did, Tried holding power, up volume and home button, nothing. Boot loop continued. Removed battery, waited, as soon as I re-installed battery it instantly went back into recovery boot loop.
I don't know what I did, I kept removing battery and trying again and again and all of a sudden, it booted up back to KitKat and now everything is working great again. No problem on any standard reboot.
What happened? I have used this same set up on my S3 and never had a problem.
I would like to backup the current setup for any future problems. But now, I'm afraid to even try.
I removed Rom Manager and re-installed. Made sure that the storage location was reset to internal and it should be OK??
What did I do when I got out of the Recovery boot loop??
So, afraid to try again. Don't want the boot loop again.

Hi. What recovery are you using?
If you haven't installed a custom recovery, then that explains your issue. Basically, the app scheduled a custom recovery script which kept failing in the stock recovery. You should normally be able to reboot into the system holding the power button, thus skipping going to recovery. This also resets the recovery script so everything is back to normal.
Nandroid is normally only possible using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
I saw that you might be able to perform a Nandroid without restarting the phone (so without a custom recovery) using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en
I have never tried it. Looks promising though.
But please note that you won't be able to restore the backup without a custom recovery.
EDIT: If you do have a custom recovery, why not boot in recovery mode and make the backup from there?
Cheers
Recovery Boot Loop Problem
I have CWM installed. Setup thru Rom Manager as I have done before on other phones.
Tried it again, same thing. Over and over. Constant reboot. Dosen't matter if I hold the power button or try different ways, same thing.
It says: Recovery booting
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit:recovery
If I remove battery and wait a couple of minutes, I can install battery and it dosen't start till I hold power button.
So I held volume down, home button and power button and booted into download mode. From there I cancelled and it rebooted normally.
Everything I've read on boot loops always say 'boot into recovery'. I only wish I could. That's the bootloop.
Any idea on what's wrong?
Thank you for your time and trouble.

Have you tried booting directly into recovery?
So just shut off your phone and then open it by holding volume up + home + power. It should boot into recovery. If it doesn't, I recommend installing cwm or TWRP using Odin instead of Rom manager.
Might be a problem with your current recovery.

Yes, I tried. Does the same thing.
I've never used Odin. All the info I've read mentioned downloading USB drivers and using different .tar files. Checking this and that.
Nothing I've ever done.
No experience with it.
Never had a reason before to use it.
Every instruction website I've read all seem to be different.
I'm gonna have to find out, huh? lol
I've got Odin on my computer, and have the CWM 6 zipped file.
Will do some research.
Thanks

No problem.
A few tips with odin:
-If you have Kies installed, you don't need to install other drivers.
-The file you flash with Odin should have tar or tar.md5 extension
-you have to activate USB debugging from developer options.
-boot your phone into download mode
-run Odin as administrator
-connect your phone. you should see the text Added in Odin. If don't see it, you need drivers.
-you should make sure only auto reboot and f. Reset time are checked
-you should put the file in Pda or Ap(if using latest version)
Click start and wait until it finishes. It will restart itself if you checked auto reboot.
That's about it. It's very safe and easy to use.
Watch some videos on YouTube. You will definitely find some.
Cheers

I believe the problem must be somewhere else.
Something is stopping the recovery boot. More research ahead.

Strange. You could try TWRP instead of CWM. I use TWRP and really like it:
Here is the download link for your device: http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.2.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
This is the Odin flashable recovery.
Here is TWRP page: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/
EDIT: One more thing. Are these the exact steps you are following when booting into recovery?
"To access recovery mode on your Note 3, turn off the device and press Volume Up+Home+Power buttons at the same time for about 4-6 seconds. When the screen lights up and you see the Samsung logo, release the Power button but keep Volume Up+Home keys pressed until you see the recovery menu screen"

Yes, if I use the buttons, the download mode comes up saying 'Boot failed'. That's holding the vol. button 'up'. If I hold vol. down, it loads download mode correctly.
If I try to enter recovery thru Rom Manager, Recovery tries to start and the boot loop starts. ??
I may try TWRP. I've heard a lot about it.
Thanks for the links.

Turned Off Galaxy S3 Recovery Mode Without Home Button

Hi Guys,
How to recovery mode on my turned off galaxy s3 without broken home button. Have you any advice?
Thanks,
Without or with? If its working then power+home+volume up. If not working there should be a work around with adb you would have to look for.

Does your power button work? why can't you boot the phone into system where you can use apps? Did you format the system partition when you were in recovery? Did you wipe the internal sdcard? If you have $3-4 USD you can buy a USB jig on eBay, it is a device that forces the device into download mode without the buttons. Then flash the stock firmware.

Get a USB jig or make one, look up the YouTube videos for how to do it, the jig will force your device to download mode so you can fix it, they are very cheap, easy to get and easy to use, all you do is plug it into the USB port on the device and it boots straight to download after 2-3 seconds. Don't worry with trying other stuff and possibly making your device worse,,use the jig, its guaranteed to get you going.

question about particular stock firmware ?

so i went to this website:
https://romfirmware.com/2017/07/28/huawei-honor-6x-bln-l24/
and it has some different firmware things for the honor 6x BLN L24 model.. and one of them is a point version variant that says can be flashed through twrp?
will this work should i trust this?
edit// on the site it says the version for it is BLN-L24C567B360 however mine is BLN-L24C567B366 (5.0.1 EMUI..i think B360 is EMUI 5.0?)

You have a newer firmware on your phone. Yes point version can be flash over twrp in some situations, same like over dload

can you explain what dload is to me? this phon is my first phone ive had that i could really do something with in the rooting community.. my other one was a galaxy grand prime with no rom support or any img files and it got bricked cause i of course had to screw with the build.prop file XD
Rommco05 said:
You must turn off the phone before installing. You need to turn it on with holding all 3 buttons ... vol + + down + power button, after that will start installation

okay... so after i extract the particular recovery image i need.. i reboot to the fastboot menu, use adb to flash over the img, like i did with twrp... and reboot into the stock recovery menu?

Basically yes. What you need to do after?

put the update.app file in a folder on my sd card called dload. and update from sd card?
also i got two files.. recovery.img and recovery2.img... which do i use ?
okay so i read on a thread for the honor 7 having two recovery images... one being the stupid erecovery crap and the other being normal recovery menu? and i guess im able to get both regular and twrp running together on two different partitions somehow?
Rommco05 said:
You can not have two recovery on your phone. For you, only recovery.img is important. Why do you need to replace twrp for stock recovery?

i ****ed up my phone... the good backups i had with twrp got ****ed up and are some messed up rooted version running a stock rom where the sound doesnt work at all, speakers headphone, blue tooth calls, apps, etc and camera doesnt work (front and back and camera app doesnt run) and i cant watch any videos on any app.. so i was going to restore the stock firmware
i still use adb reboot recovery to boot into the regular recovery menu ? (not erecov)
alright.. im stuck again.. i rebooted to recovery and it gave me 3 options. reboot, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition... what do i do to install the firmware??
see its almsot 4 am for me right now.. if you could just talk me through this i would be okay..
never mindd i looked at your previous reply
and i believe its stuck at 5%
alright well it just rebooted and it didnt restore the stock firmware..i still have all my apps and **** and nothing has changed
do i have to factory reset it now? or..

nothings working still . camera, sound videos, etc.. still broken.. phone still rooted.. i followed this other ugie i saw on here where you wipe all partitions and things and then do the file from dload and things, and it still stuck at 5%?
heres another question.. when i went through the firmware finder i got 3 files.. update.zip, update_data_full_public.zip, and update_full_BLN-L24_hw_usa.zip they all contain a update.app file... am i using the right one? im using the one from update.zip
now it appears to be stuck at the boot animation screen.. fml
//edt: standby... i actually havent finished the guide..
yup.. i dun ****ed up.... i cant use adb to reboot to recovery.. say null device not found..
i can go into fastboot by doing power and vol down... if i do vol up and power to try to get into recovery/twrp/whatever, it does nothing and does the normal booting process.. holding all three down just does the automatic sd card install thing that doesnt work... what do i do? i think i ****ed it up
well as far as i can tell my phone is bricked cant boot into recovery via key presses or adb.. i get device not found on adb..
fastboot works and i can flash still but i cant get into twrp or anythin i dont know why..
if i let it boot it just stays at the bootloading animation..
am i able to do factory reset from fastboot?
//edit: i did fastboot erase userdata accoring to some websites online.. no success in booting... is there anything i can do at this point?
Rommco05 said:
Disconnect the phone from the usb and switch off. Turn on and hold the power button + vol up when you see the Honor logo release power button but still hold the vol. Now you should be in recovery, perform factory reset

thank you so much for that little tip i thought i ****ed something up that was preventing it from going into recovery..
omg thank you so much it booted to the set up menu... thank you... ill report back with the status of camera and sounds and things

Bootloop in my S8 Plus, where to download Stock Firmware?

Hi,
I have S8 Plus SM-G955F in Germany.
Dont knwo what exactly happend, but my phone was just still running fine (bootloader is unlocked) and I rebooted but then was stuck at "Installing system updates" screen which appear before getting into recovery. However, it does not enter into recovery and reboots after few seconds into "installing updates" mode which then fails.
It does not boot up into Android.
All I can access to is Download Mode.
I flashed "BL_G955FXXU1AQF7_CL11544126_QB13847503_REV00_user_low_ship.tar" Bootloader and rebooted and now it is stuck in Samsung boot logo. If I press Vol up + Bixpy Button + Power nothing happends, it does not even start to load Recovery mode.
I now downloaded following stock firmware through SamFirm: "SM-G955F_1_20171214140840_hlcm4r582t_fac.zip.enc4" (3332 MB)
but when trying to flash it in odin I get FAILED !!! Also if I try to flash TWRP recovery "twrp-3.1.0-1-dream2lte.img" I get FAILED in Odin I now also tried to flash "AP_G955FXXU1AQH3_CL12050265_QB14545623_REV00" firmware using this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2y0ZZxcNVnE which also FAILED. I think I am completely bricked !!
Please help, phone is completeley useless now
Thanks!

I had the same problem with downloading stock firmware. My problem was that I couldn't download from SamMobile because of server maintenance. So I downloaded from here. An with this tool there's the option to decrypt the file automatically. I forgot to tick this option and had a .enc4-file like you have there. The problem could decrypt this file and then I could unzip it and use it with odin.
So that's your problem: you are trying to use an encrypted file. But you have to use an decrypted file.

Hi,
thank you! But its actually not my problem. Samfirm decrypted and I got the zip with the BL, AP, CSC, CP files in it. But ODIN fails everytime anyway and I have no idea what I could still do now.

Usual behaviour was this: Vol up, bixpy and Power -> Recovery mode which fist starts with "Installing update..." then failed and then it goes into some black recovery mode where you can choose Apply update.zip etc. right? However, in my case this black screen with more commands did not show up, before it was rebooting again by itself.
Now I cannot even get into this "installing updates" mode before recovery, because "Vol up, bixpy and Power" does not bring any action.
Vol down, Bixpy and Power still works and brings me to Download Mode. But it doesnt help me, because once I tr to flash any firmware in Download Mode, it FAILS in Odin, so I am completely stuck, hope you understand

Download mode is the only mode you need for restoring stock firmware.
Try this guide. (Spoiler "Flashing Standard Firmware:")
Yesterday I did it with this one too and it worked flawlessly. But I used Odin v3.12.3 not as said in the guide V3.12.7.

it automatically loaded into recovery before, I was not able to boot into Android, it loaded recovery (but without black screen with more commands) automatically by default and rebooted, loaded recovery again and rebooted, loaded recovery againd and rebooted etc...all I could to to interrupt this was loading download mode.
However, thanks for the link, but it does describe what I did already. And yes, I also used Odin 3.12.3 already because in the video tutorial I linked some posts before they said also, I need to use that version.
However, it simply does not work. Odin FAILS everytime
I am not doing anything wrong, I am sure. The only thing could be that the Firmware I downloaded is still wrong, even I cannot imagine this.

Yes that's the only thing that comes on my mind too if you think everything else is right. Download another firmware file maybe from a different provider than SamMobile.
Or try using different USB-Port, USB-Cable and/or different PC.

Did already, did not help. I think maybe there is something realldy bricked, so flashing stock firmware wont be possible at all anymore?! Is this possible somehow?
btw: Just managed to load into TWRP, randomly it does load twrp, dont know how, because if I press the keys for loading into recovery, it actually does not do anything, but currently I see twrp.
Is see anything I can try from there? btw: formated data (incl. internal storage) earlier already, but it did not change anything.
But any idea what I can try to flash from TWRP maybe? Is there a way to flash stock firmware from TWRP somehow?
I found a backup in twrp, I am currently trying to restore it...

Google found this. But I don't know if this works. I only flashed custom ROMs via TWRP. Stock ROMs always via Odin.

My mistake, sorry - I posted in the wrong place- sorry. (I do hope you find a way to get t his fixed) good luck
I just ran into this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/stuck-bootloop-flashing-aqg5-fix-t3636857
It looks like you're not the only one...
You know, you might want to try and remove the more current apps you installed and see if that is causing the loop, and if that does not work, just dirty flash over what you have. For me, a lot of time a dirty flash will solve the issue, as it overwrites the OEM software, and in that manner, takes my phone OS back to normal/new state, while leaving my data.
