[Q] Phone Stuck In Error Screen

My Phone (Obviously T769) is stuck in the Download mode saying
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I tried that, Kies does not detect my phone in this mode. (I think. may be wrong)
What I did that got me up to here:
Tried to reflash to stock using Odin since my ROM was damaged.
Loads the PIT and TAR
Goes into download mode
Starts.
IT FAILS.
I try to just go back to android.
End up wid dis screen.

EDIT:Fixed this by flashing AGAIN with Odin.
NOW IM IN A MOTHER
FREAKING
BOOTLOOP. (I did uncheck re-partition)(ALSO, I cannot enter download mode. Does not work for whatsoever reason.)

Boot to the recovery and factory reset.
If still no go, use Odin to flash cwm and boot to it and do a factory reset, wipe cache, and davlik cache.
And again, if it still wont boot get into cwm again and do a full wipe (all of the previous wipes and format /system), then rerun Odin to flash the stock firmware.

I didn't see your edit down there.
To get in into the recovery, with the phone off, hold both the volume up and down (the whole rocker) and the power button until you see the recovery.

The phone just keeps to vibrate nonstop as I keep doing that. (Entering recovery mode) it doesnt seem to work.
Should I try ADB to force it into download mode? (If so, HALP? )
EDIT AGAIN: Im a ****ing idiot, I forghot to put the USB so I didnt go into download mode.
NOW when I try to flash something with Odin, it just detects but thenI start the process, it tells me it failed and then its not detected. . Using 1.8.5 by K0nane

You have to release the power button when the samsung logo appears. It should enter recovery then.

M04R Problems.
okay so I flashed k0nanes stock again. Since I managed to get Odin to work.
Never works, just stays in boot loop.
Dunno what to do...
Also, it didnt work...
EDIT: now its in clockwork
holy crap the dynamic crap that happens each time lol

I was dealing with this earlier today so here is how I fixed it I used the return to stock Odin thread instructions flashed the files from that thread using Odin then I got a bootloop so then I followed the instructions on this thread

And soon after flashing those files I booted into recovery wiped data and cache and then rebooted fixed bootloop

[Q] Start TWRP

I rooted with Casual and selected TWRP for Custom Recovery. Everything seems to be working fine, but I have been unable to start TWRP. With phone off, I hold volume down + Power. The phone will vibrate every few seconds until I release the power button. Then it starts in normal Android mode. Am I trying to start this in the wrong way or is there something messed up with TWRP on my phone?

Until you flash a rom that has a custom menu to boot to recovery you have to hold volume up plus the home key while hitting the power button. Let the power button go but keep holding the volume up and home key then TWRP should start up.
Edit: You can also download Quick Boot by Sirius app from the play store and see if that gets you to your recovery until you get a rom on that let's you boot straight to recovery.

The buttons worked BUT TWRP isn't. I have an Android Robot, out for the count, he is on his back. The recovery must be messed up.

That's the stock recovery. Download too manager and install twrp from the settings menu

Thanks, but I already tried redoing TWRP with Goo Manager. Program ran fine & finished, but when I rebooted into recovery I got the dead Android Robot again. Don't know how to proceed at this point. May try re-running Casual. Still reading everything I can find on this situation before doing anything.

From a powered off state, hold volume UP, home, and power. Let go of the power button when the phone vibrates.

Done that multiple times, same result - Android on back. Tried redoing TWRP with Goo manager, also Checked on lock/unlock with Ez Unlock - got "status unknown". Did not risk pressing either 'Lock' or 'Unlock' and exited app. Not sure what to do next.
Phone is working. Can make calls, messages, use & install apps and change settings. SuperSU is working, TB Pro is working. I did TB Backups & uninstalled multiple locked apps (Bloatware) before discovering that I cannot get into a working TWRP Recovery.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Odin flash a TWRP tar. Uncheck auto-reboot, once it successfully flashes, pull the battery then try booting directly into twrp.

It should. There's download mode and there's recovery mode. You are having issues flashing a recovery. I don't see anything in your prior posts about difficulty accessing anything else.

Your link above for the "TWRP Tar" goes to a page that instructs to go into odin mode on the 'device' by pressing Vol down, home and power. When I do that I get the Android Robot standing and a message that says "Downloading Custom, do not turn off device". At this point no buttons work and I have no choices do do anything and have to do a battery pull to get out. If I go in any other way I get the Robot on its back.
EDIT: You link was only for the purpose of getting the tar file, not a suggestion to use Odin Mobile. I think that all of the time I spent reading about this issue is affecting my brain.

Yes, you use Odin from a computer and boot your phone into download mode then connect it via usb to flash files. Based on your post, you haven't used Odin before have you?
Edit: If it makes it easier, this thread has a [HOW TO] for Odin and the process of flashing tar files as well.

Ahh, I see that now. Also, per your earlier statement about EZ Unlock. If you have v1.2, just tapping unlock does not harm the phone in any capacity. In fact, fact I encourage you to do so just before using Odin (from a computer) to flash TWRP or CWM. EZ Unlock v1.2 only unlocks the bootloader.

Did your suggestion and Ran Ez Unlock again and pressed 'Unlock', Status now says UNlocked. Now that it does I'm going to give Goo Manager 1 more shot at fixing TWRP before I run Odin with the TWRP Tar you linked to.

Ran Goo Manager, but no success. Put phone in download mode and used Odin to flash recovery with openrecovery-twrp-2.6.1.0-d2vzw.tar. Odin ran through to end and showed "Pass" and rebooted. Used Vol UP, Home & Power keys to enter TWRP got the Robot on his back with a Red Exclamation mark with this message below:

Successfully applied Multi-CSC
I have 6 choices on this screen.
1 Reboot System Now (I pressed power and phone booted normally)
2 Apply Update from ADB

6 Apply update from Cache
So I still can't get into TWRP and the only difference is now the Red Exclamation Point.

Did you uncheck "auto reboot" and pull the battery and boot into TWRP like I said before?
Here's a third method if the above does not work. Download EZ Recovery from the Play Store. Once you've done so, you can use my prior link from Rootzwiki and download a TWRP img (image) and use EZ Recovery to install that img file. For this method, make sure to use TWRP.img. Do not use the "tar" file, for this method, tar files are for Odin only.

[Q] Need help recovering my S3 -- TWRP ADB Sideload not working

I pulled a boneheaded move and ended up formatting my phone from within the TWRP menu. Now the stock operating system is gone.
I wanted to put on one of the Gummy Nightly builds, but I'm new to TWRP and selected the wrong options while wiping.
So now I have the Gummy ROM on my PC, the phone is connected to my PC and in TWRP (in the advanced adb sideload feature), but adb will not recognize my phone.
When I check device manager, SAMSUNG_Android_SCH-I535 is there, but with a yellow "cauton" symbol. When I look at properties, it tells me that "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).
I went out to the Samsung page and got the exe to unpack drivers on my machine... I've tried "update driver" and pointing to the root of the directory containing the Samsung drivers, but my PC claims none of them are applicable.
So what I'm looking for here is:
(1) How do I get this ROM on my phone so that I can install the zip and have a working OS again?
(2) Assuming that using the ADB Sideload feature of TWRP is my best option, how do I get the device drivers for my galaxy s3 installed to my windows 8 PC and get adb to detect it?

Ok, so it seems to have gotten worse.
I cannot get my windows installation to recognize the phone without it being able to boot an android OS, it seems.
I had it in TWRP 2.6.0.0, but as I was trying to reboot to see if I could get into download mode (my thought being to change out TWRP for Clockwork; I seem to remember Clockwork Recovery having a "mount as USB" option which TWRP seems to lack), it tried to root the file system.
After that, the screen went black and nothing happened... the phone was unresponsive. I would remove the battery and replace it to have it vibrate once and then not respond to any key presses.
I removed the battery, SD card, and SIM card, replacing only the battery and got it to turn on and show a Samsung Galaxy SIII logo... but it's just sitting there... I'm assuming it's frozen because there's no OS to boot on the internal storage.
Please help me recover my phone!

Ok, so I've found I can still get into download mode, but not into recovery.
Recovery seems to lead to a black screen with nothing on it.
Trying to boot normally leads to the statis Samsung Galaxy SIII logo.
Can I fix my phone from the download menu?
Please help me.

Install kies and at the end of the install make sure you check install unified drivers. Then flash root66 through Odin. After that you should be good to install ROMs again.

Sorry, I'm a little out of date on the flashing and stuff -- I was just over in the thread where the poster thought he half softbricked his phone and was asking about 4.1.2 vs. 4.3
I see this at the top of my screen sitting here in download mode:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (6 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
It seems my bootloader got relocked somehow -- is this why my phone just goes to black screen when I attempt to boot into recovery -- even if I have TWRP or CWR installed? Odin claims I just pushed philz custom CWR to my PDA section, but it still won't go into recovery.
What are my options here?

I'll stay tuned for help and turn off my phone so I don't screw things up further in the meantime.
My desired result here, I think is to have my bootloader remain unlocked (as I was under the impression it was, since I was running TWRP with rooted stock ROM), with CWR as the custom recovery software and Gummy as my current ROM.
Side note: I've noticed I don't even get a battery indicator on the main screen now when I press the home button -- is this because of whatever's causing my recovery to not work (and the potential lack of an OS)?

I believe it can. After TWRP stopped working, I tried to replace it with CWR and the digital flash count went up (Odin showed no errors on the flash) -- recovery still won't work though, holding vol+/home/power simply gives me a black screen after I see the SAMSUNG logo with the recovery boot text in the upper left.

I think before this fiasco, it was running whatever version was previous to the new VZW update.
It was the fact that the new update was trying to install and failing repeatedly (because my bootloader was unlocked, I think?) that prompted me to look into finally switching to a ROM. However, my unfamiliarity with TWRP led to me formatting my phone (everything, it seems, including the SD card)... so I'm not really sure what' "on the phone right now". :\
I'm really not sure what kind of state anything is in at this point -- other than Odin seemingly working and being able to get into download mode.
Again, short version of what happened:
(1) Accidentally did a full wipe (factory reset?) in TWRP -- this wiped the ROM I was going to install with TWRP off the phone.
(2) While trying to ADB sideload from TWRP and telling TWRP to reboot, TWRP tried to install supersu.
(3) After (2), I was unable to get back into recovery mode. I got into Odin and tried to flash philz customer clockwork recovery and it seemed successful. Reboot and attempt to enter recovery still fails. Samsung logo with recovery mode text appears, but then the screen goes black.
(4) Normal boot leaves the screen stuck on the Samsung Galaxy SIII logo indefinitely.

OK, download this image and flash with Odin(you should be using Odin version 3.07) http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/stock.vzw_root66.tar This should bring your phone back from the dead.
Edit: after you have your phone up and running, download goo manager and install cwm recovery since your phone is pre rooted already.

Ok, that looks like some version of the stock vzw ROM with root already installed?
This is what ThePagel seemed to recommend as well before I ended up with more questions about what was going on before I did it.
What part of Odin do I flash to? PDA again, just like a custom recovery?

Correct. When you click on PDA and select the image, give it time to showup in Odin cause the size is big.

Didn't need to go that far -- but now that I'm back up and running, signed into google play, and downloaded goo manager, can you point me in the right direction for getting it to install cwm recovery?

[Q] Recovery Boot Loop Problem

Had a problem. Hope someone with experience can give me a few answers.
Nave new t-mobile Note 3, SM-N900T. Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Touchwiz rooted.
Rooted to enable SDFix to use SD card as I want to use it.
Everything great! No problems.
Thought it would be wise to have a Nanoid backup.
Opened Rom Manager and made One change in prefrences. I set it for external SD card storage. (mistake?)
Went to 'Backup current Rom' in Rom manager, started it and it started to reboot. Shut down and restarted in a 'Recovery' boot loop??
No matter what I did, Tried holding power, up volume and home button, nothing. Boot loop continued. Removed battery, waited, as soon as I re-installed battery it instantly went back into recovery boot loop.
I don't know what I did, I kept removing battery and trying again and again and all of a sudden, it booted up back to KitKat and now everything is working great again. No problem on any standard reboot.
What happened? I have used this same set up on my S3 and never had a problem.
I would like to backup the current setup for any future problems. But now, I'm afraid to even try.
I removed Rom Manager and re-installed. Made sure that the storage location was reset to internal and it should be OK??
What did I do when I got out of the Recovery boot loop??
So, afraid to try again. Don't want the boot loop again.

Nave new t-mobile Note 3, SM-N900T. Stock 4.4.2 KitKat Touchwiz rooted.
Rooted to enable SDFix to use SD card as I want to use it.
Everything great! No problems.
Thought it would be wise to have a Nanoid backup.
Opened Rom Manager and made One change in prefrences. I set it for external SD card storage. (mistake?)
Went to 'Backup current Rom' in Rom manager, started it and it started to reboot. Shut down and restarted in a 'Recovery' boot loop??
No matter what I did, Tried holding power, up volume and home button, nothing. Boot loop continued. Removed battery, waited, as soon as I re-installed battery it instantly went back into recovery boot loop.
I don't know what I did, I kept removing battery and trying again and again and all of a sudden, it booted up back to KitKat and now everything is working great again. No problem on any standard reboot.
What happened? I have used this same set up on my S3 and never had a problem.
I would like to backup the current setup for any future problems. But now, I'm afraid to even try.
I removed Rom Manager and re-installed. Made sure that the storage location was reset to internal and it should be OK??
What did I do when I got out of the Recovery boot loop??
So, afraid to try again. Don't want the boot loop again.

Hi. What recovery are you using?
If you haven't installed a custom recovery, then that explains your issue. Basically, the app scheduled a custom recovery script which kept failing in the stock recovery. You should normally be able to reboot into the system holding the power button, thus skipping going to recovery. This also resets the recovery script so everything is back to normal.
Nandroid is normally only possible using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
I saw that you might be able to perform a Nandroid without restarting the phone (so without a custom recovery) using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en
I have never tried it. Looks promising though.
But please note that you won't be able to restore the backup without a custom recovery.
EDIT: If you do have a custom recovery, why not boot in recovery mode and make the backup from there?

I have CWM installed. Setup thru Rom Manager as I have done before on other phones.
Tried it again, same thing. Over and over. Constant reboot. Dosen't matter if I hold the power button or try different ways, same thing.
It says: Recovery booting
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit:recovery
If I remove battery and wait a couple of minutes, I can install battery and it dosen't start till I hold power button.
So I held volume down, home button and power button and booted into download mode. From there I cancelled and it rebooted normally.
Everything I've read on boot loops always say 'boot into recovery'. I only wish I could. That's the bootloop.
Any idea on what's wrong?

Have you tried booting directly into recovery?
So just shut off your phone and then open it by holding volume up + home + power. It should boot into recovery. If it doesn't, I recommend installing cwm or TWRP using Odin instead of Rom manager.
Might be a problem with your current recovery.

Yes, I tried. Does the same thing.
I've never used Odin. All the info I've read mentioned downloading USB drivers and using different .tar files. Checking this and that.
Nothing I've ever done.
No experience with it.
Never had a reason before to use it.
Every instruction website I've read all seem to be different.
I'm gonna have to find out, huh? lol
I've got Odin on my computer, and have the CWM 6 zipped file.
Will do some research.

A few tips with odin:
-If you have Kies installed, you don't need to install other drivers.
-The file you flash with Odin should have tar or tar.md5 extension
-you have to activate USB debugging from developer options.
-boot your phone into download mode
-run Odin as administrator
-connect your phone. you should see the text Added in Odin. If don't see it, you need drivers.
-you should make sure only auto reboot and f. Reset time are checked
-you should put the file in Pda or Ap(if using latest version)
Click start and wait until it finishes. It will restart itself if you checked auto reboot.
That's about it. It's very safe and easy to use.
Watch some videos on YouTube. You will definitely find some.

Update: The install of CWM with Odin seemed to be successful. Still have same problem.
I believe the problem must be somewhere else.
Something is stopping the recovery boot. More research ahead.
When I find out more, will post here and give update.

Strange. You could try TWRP instead of CWM. I use TWRP and really like it:

Yes, if I use the buttons, the download mode comes up saying 'Boot failed'. That's holding the vol. button 'up'. If I hold vol. down, it loads download mode correctly.
If I try to enter recovery thru Rom Manager, Recovery tries to start and the boot loop starts. ??
I may try TWRP. I've heard a lot about it.

Success!! TWRP works!!
Installed with Odin and it started up fine. Backed up system on my Ext. SD card and rebooted back to OS.
Perfect!
Don't know what happened to CWM but problem is solved thanks to your help.
If your ever in Winter Haven, Fl area, I'll buy you a steak dinner.

Phone broken because of TWRP change file system

I used a video on youtube to install TWRP on my galaxy s7 (SM-G930F)
Almost everything worked fine, except I was not able to make a backup. I got the error "Unable to Mount /data". A lot of videos told me that I need to 1. wipe 2. advanced 3. change filesystem 4..exFat and then EXT4. I tried this method, but TWRP froze after some time during the exFAT change process. Now my phone tries to boot into recovery mode, but won't go further than the very first screen of TWRP (where you see the version number and the logo).
What should I do now? I tried to reflash TWRP, but it still doesn't go past the very first screen. I am also not able to turn off my phone, because it keeps rebooting into recovery mode. I think that I need to find a way to change my filesystem to EXT4, but I cant do that with TWRP.
Can somebody help me plz (and sorry for my bad English)

I just tried this, but it does not work.
Odin says that thread has successfully flashed all the files. My phone is installing the software update and erasing, but after that the screen is black. I cant boot the device or even enter recovery mode (download mode still work). I tried both flashing CSC and HOME_CSC, but both didnt work.
What should I do now?

The same thing happened to me. Keep trying to access the TWRP even if it takes a bit longer than an hour it will enter. You do not have to do anything else, just keep trying, when you access, you'll be able to repair the partitions, change them to fat32 instead of exfat, and then return to EXT4. It will work.

Actually, I was flashing an los ROM shock, I flash the newest ROM, And it works. S7 Flat g930f Android 8 february 2019 update. Thanks anyway.

Had a feeling that this would work, but really didn't had the time to wait. Have wasted €20 to fix it, but still thanks for the reply (even if you are a few months late )
Hope this will help out other people who have the same problem
