Thank you for this great rom. The only caveat is it needs a clean flash as dirty flashing results in bootloop.

Yes, first install of epic requires clean install if you come from other roms (we based our roms in global base, and not in china base like other teams).

I was in your (epic) ROM before. Downloaded the new one through the OTA app and clicked install also on the OTA app. Should have gone to twrp and made a backup first. Was lucky that Titanium backup makes a backup every now and.
The rom itself is fantastic. Great battery life, super fast... Thank you to you and your team.

Final Rooting Suggestion/Help Needed [REGARDING OTA AND GAPPS]

So I've downloaded all the stuff and made my mind to root the device.
Just some final questions..
1) I would be installing Xposed Framework on the device, will it hinder any OTA updates to the stock ROM?
2) If I install a custom ROM like CM, and then let's say Android 4.4.3 comes out... What should I do to update to the Android 4.4.3?
3) What is the need of getting Gapps when flashing a custom ROM? Aren't Gapps already present in Android?
4) Any other drawback of installing a Custom ROM?
Don't forget to search. Every thing you need to know is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47369234

Okay searching XDA is the best way to find out these answers, but I'll help you
1.) Using Xposed framework will stop you from receiving otas
2.) If you're running a custom ROM when 4.4.3 drops, all you will need to do is flash any 4.4.3 ROM that drops to update. Believe me, when it drops it won't be long before some 4.4.3 custom ROMs surface.
3.) Most custom ROMs do not include gapps. You'll need to flash those separately. Read the ops of each ROM you're interested in to find out if they're included.
4.) You have a Nexus, they're made to be rooted. Lol
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
If you're using a custom ROM though like CM, 4.4.3 doesn't really matter. Since it's a custom ROM it won't be releasing an update at the same time as google. It would be whenever CM releases their update that's based on 4.4.3. Anyone should feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. I'm fairly new to everything as well.
I have not unlocked my bootloader.. And have many things on my device [Been Using It For Over A Month]
I have many apps, contacts, app save files [games], etc.
Will I need to re-download all the apps again? Is there any way i could preserve this data? What all can I preserve.
Also, any Custom ROM suggestion. I liked Paranoid Android, but it releases a new beta like every week... This means that I'll have to flash it again? Leading to data loss every time?

Use helium to backup. We will not suggest you a rom.

Hi,
No need to flash obviously all the new update if you don't want unless there is an important bug fixed or a new feature you want. You can dirty flash (wipe only Dalvik cache and cache partition) so you won't loose your data.

Because it turns into something like "best" rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/best-rom-kernel-threads-t2477889... And you will have 20 different suggestions depending of each users needs, it will not help you more.
You need to test by yourself, read the OP of the rom threads to see the features, issue, videos, etc... read the last pages of the rom thread for feedbacks.
So.. I just want customizations to make android fun.. Paranoid would be fine?

Which 5.1 custom ROM is best

Hi folks
I am using ressurection remix v5.4 android 5.1 based custom ROM on my N5 for a couple of days and facing some bugs which are
1. When I change app drawer animation sometimes app icons don't show on the whole page.
2. When screen rotate sometimes notification keys don't appears.
3. Facebook messenger doesn't popup. I can't use when I am using another app.
4. Most of the time when I restart the phone, 'android is optimizing the apps xx of xx' appears.
And some other bugs those I can't remember right now.
So I decided to change the ROM but confused which one to choose.
My need is a stable custom ROM with some beneficial changes and most importantly with no bugs.
I really need your help folks.
Thanks

I had no idea about xposed as I m not very expert android user. after ur reply I googled it and liked the idea. But only one thing I don't want to loose is the USB storage support because I didn't find this on stock rom without using any app.
I've been running Cataclysm for a few weeks now
Combine that with ElementalX kernel and my phone has been rock solid, great battery life (some of the best I've seen out of it) and I couldn't be happier.

Cataclysm rom uses stock kernel, you have to download ElemetalX separately. First flash rom and than flash kernel, but you don't have to wipe anyting before kernel flashing.

Thanx dimi3ye....last night I flashed the cm12 nightly caz I downloaded it before and installed the elementalx 2.10 stock/aosp version. Very much satisfied with the kernel as its giving me pretty good standby battery life though I m using the dt2w option and most importantly impressed with the sound gain option.
But still worried about custom ROM because cm12 launcher still has some bugs. So I need to know about cataclysm ROM what are the best picks of the ROM and the stability.

Your curent kernel will be reflashed with kernel that comes with Cataclysm... Read first page on Cataclysm tread for flashing instructions, because latest version is sometimes just update (~ 30mb), and first you have to flash major, big version (~ 550mb) before that update...

Gapps are included in rom. Usually, just flash latest update, if something else is needed, there is a description.

2.8.5.2 is fine... stable release means that every feature works perfect, beta is also rockstable rom, but new added features might have small issues (usually everything works perfect). I always flash latest whether is stable or beta, never had issues.

Recommended Recovery: TWRP 2.7.1.2 or newer, you may want Twrp from MdMower!

minimal gapps 5.1.1
Thank you for the great ROM
It is very fast and smooth but I am facing to problems
1- The battery life is somewhat bad, On intensive usage it last less that 3 hours
2- Whenever I restart the phone it doesnot boot; it either sometimes after 2-3 reboots reoptimize all apps on its own or mostly I have to wipe cache and dalvik cache and system and reinstall the ROM the the GAPPs; this problem is utterly annoying

Flashing nougat rom

Hey, i have given my oneplus one to a friend which is currently on darkobas 6.0.1 rom (17/03/2016)
I want to update it to a nougat rom, can you tell me what steps i'll have to take, also i've moved onto a different phone since over a year so i have no idea which are good roms. i did read the threads but would prefer a recommendation.
I'm looking for a rom which is stable and won't keep rebooting randomly and i don't care about updates, just need a stable rom and want to forget about it.

What's more stable than this?,

Flash and forget, though recommended to dirty flash updates when sultan releases.
BTW,which device you're using now?

Most Reliable 100% Working ROM for Honor 6X US Variant?

I'm giving a new Honor 6X to my father in law, and he needs something that's reliable and everything works. He lives several hours away so I won't be there to help him, and he can't tinker with his phone.
Phone is unlocked and rooted, and I installed twrp-3.1.1-0-berlin recovery already. Android version doesn't matter, this just needs to be 100% working and reliable. Even a stock debloated ROM would be fine, but I can't find anything like that and it's a PITA to manually debloat the stock ROM.
What can you suggest please?

U can give Elite ROM 7.2 a try.....but it isn't perfect in terms of magisk, permission manager etc minor bugs- better performance than stock
LOS, AOSP have performance issues imo
I tried almost every ROM and finally settled with stock if u want most stable and everything working accepting poor optimization of RAM and performance of EMUI 5.0
Here's a guide on bloatware safe to remove made by me https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-list-bloat-software-emui-safe-to-t3700814 - it could sound boring, but manually remove bloats on EMUI is the safe way to achieve a "clean" rom (stable the most, overall) for your father in law, actually. Hope it could be helpful.

Yes, this seems to be the consensus. Can I stay rooted on stock without the bootup nag screen? Or can I remove the bloat without being rooted? I don't think system apps can be removed without root.
