do you suggest this device for me? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

so i'm a bit on budget , and i think that Mi A1 is great for the price , 4GB of ram 64GB expandable storage , good camera quality (not great) , loud speaker (but overall idk about that hissing problem in both speaker and earphone) , so what do you think about this device? should i go ahead and buy it?

Yes do buy it. You wont even notice these things that much in your daily use. Plus its giving an amazing battery life even after oreo update and the portrait mode works like a charm. Faced zero lags, played heavy games with ease. There isn't a better deal out there.

This might sound harsh and rude. Don't worry my intention are that only. Have you googled it or even read few threads in this forum?
Okay now to your question: do you suggest this device for" me"?
Ohhh jeeeezzzz. I don't really know you. Then how would i know whether mi A1 is suitable for your needs.
I am so sorry i couldn't help you

this is a great phone mate and the people moaning about the hissing noise are crazy, its there but only when to sound stops and only for a second or two ans its not even loud, my shield tablet has the same issue but i never noticed untill people moaned about it here lol

Best phone I've ever had

To me it's good. Not much probem. If you're are heavy user you might need to charge twice in a day otherwise it can easily last a day long. I'm using this phone since December 22.
Though camera is not good in low light (well I don't take much photos anyway)
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk

Absolutely. Best budget smartphone on sale, IMO.

Yea its a good device. Value for money..

IMHO it's good bang for the buck! I'm satisfied with my A1

Yes, it is overall a very good package. For me personally it is a great fit and I recommend it. But it is not for everyone!
You should consider three things before you buy:
The headphone hissing is real. If you love music and you listen to it in quiet settings, this phone is not for you until this is fixed. If on the other hand you mostly listen outside (e.g. on the commute) you will not notice the hissing and it is fine.
The camera performance is bad. You will get good shots in daylight, but everything else (especially low light and selfie) is quite below average. You will still get usable photos, but if you love photography or you need nice pictures for work then you should look for another phone.
Android One is a great idea, poorly executed so far. Xiaomi is mainly focused on MIUI and Google is not doing a very good job right now. You will experience bugs and inconveniences that other headsets do not have, where hardware and software come from the same place. If you do not have some patience for bugs and are not able to fix things yourself (e.g. by following tutorials from the forums) you should not get this phone.

I would recommend it and don't agree with the whole 'bad camera' and 'loads of bugs' malarky. The phone performs well and the camera is as good as it gets at this price. Gcam gives better pictures, but we will have to wait until Google supports a double camera or use a port.
My device has been on Oreo since the official update came out and I'm not facing any bugs whatsoever. I feel that a lot of complaints about bugs are basically complaints about features tbat people want and are not there. For my use, the phone is 100% bug free.
The hissing is there on headphones below 32 ohms and you need to take that into account. If you want hiss-free sound at a low volume, you will have to use headphones with an impedance that's at least 32 ohms. Higher is better, though.

thanks all for suggestions , i've bought it , but im facing very bad issue that made me hate it .. the network issues , it keeps changing network and keep loose connection , in my area vodafone is only available via 2G network , i set it to 2G prefered , even the 4636 menu and selecting GSM only fix didn't seem to be useful as it keeps changing every few hours back to the original state again and network getting loose again , does anyone have a fix for that?

So i use Vodafone's network.

And u will be stuck with a frustrating to use phone.. Mi A1's inhouse developer support is pathetic.. Lets hope for the best with the upcoming oreo update..

What happens when you put 4g preferred?Problem is when 2g is lost, it's lost. Here in Europe I have all 3, so when 4g is lost, 3g is there, and if 3g is lost, it gets 2g, its switching back and forth...it is inconsistent though, but I do have network 99%.
That's terrible, but it's not the fault of the phone...it's operater's fault to provide only 2g network in 2018.

T-Mobile can't help me who can? ?

OK this is my story ... I had bought a g2x April 20 i started to have data problems .. it'll dqisconnect then reconnect sometimes be disconnected for 3 to 4 mins at a time. I did every possible reset on the phone after every reset it'll work fine for about 5 mins then the disconnects starts all over again. This is everywhere I go does the same thing .. soo after calling T-mobile 100 times going thru technical support I was advise to change my phone and sim. Card as well... after changing my phone to the new one still have the same problems also I think its worse than before .. I've tried everything .. anyone has any ideas? ???
Well, were you on T-Mobile before, or is this a new contract with a new carrier?
I've always been on T-mobile ..
I have same problem bro hopefully its them upgrading/fixing network because THEY wont help you, they dont even know what u r talking about, all they will tell you is to turn phone off and on...useless..
G2X
Does it do this all the time, or in really bad reception spots?
Yea that's all T-mobile does your exactly right ..... and yea the phone does it all the time no matter where I'm at..
Ok, what phone is it you had previously, and how was that experience?
How old is your SIM?
Try to replace and see.
The phone I had before the g2x was the hd2 and as you all know it has a 6.5 windows o.s on it soo I had put mdeejay's rom evo revolution on it running on SD card was hearing those builds always had data issues soo I didn't really complain it was way better than having windows on it .. and I'm pretty sure for those couple of days I didn't have data issues with windows ..
Talk to customer loyalty, they have more power, insist on it,i don't talk to regular agents anymore, they can't do anything.one time in 30mn of talking, that guy only shows me how to reboot my phone, it's all bull****
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I had the same problem and I don't know why or how it's now getting better. At first it would disconnect ALL the time and I would just put the phone on airplane mode our just disconnect and reconnect data, and it would temporarily fix the problem. After rooting, freezing bloatware and playing with the settings it rarely losses data connection. It was also really slow, I couldn't go above 2mbits, today it's between 4 and 6mbits! Consistently! (knock on wood)

Yea I've done the sim cards change.. like I said I tried everything as soon as gingerbread comes to the g2x I'll see if I have the same problem if yess I might try rooting this phone.. or just give up and get a different phone ..

its not the device error its your network reception, where do you live?
I don't think it's network. Mine does it too. Disconnects from 4g/wifi intermittently.
Yea I don't think its the network it does it everywhere I go .. I'm in Orlando Florida says I have really good coverage there .. I've also been to west palm .. ft Lauderdale .. Jacksonville ... everywhere same problem. .

+1
I strongly believe our radio firmware is borked. I have goofy data problems to say the least. Best example I have is that I drop 2g data all the time and in weird spots, like you know, OUTSIDE! Only way I can recover is to switch to 4g. This doesn't make any sense to me. So I'm patiently waiting for LG to get off their ass and fix our phones so I can get a replacement that performs the way it was intended to.
So you had data issues with your last phone which you attribute to the software. Maybe you are in a bad area for T-Mo data, and have been all along.
Yea but it was on a SD rom from mdeejay and they all had data issues ... again this happens every where I go.

Hiya,
Many might not like this reply.. but I think it's helpful..
I had a sensation on Vodafone and had no end of Signal issues - I changed 4 handsets and still had issues!! I would have signal one minute and then lose it the next..
After, I gave the SGS 2 a try and have found that the signal is much stronger! It has barely lost signal and to top it off, in an area with apparently only GPRS strength, I'm getting H and 3G!!
Also, another note, I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that the GPS signal is weak in the Sensation and was a little disappointed that it kept losing the satellites - SGS 2 seems to find a lock in less than 5 seconds and holds on for dear life!! The only down side is that it drains the battery a lot more than the sensation..
I'm not trolling, I'm just giving my experience - I was in the same boat on Vodafone and found that the sensation just didn't really work as well as the SGS 2 - A shame, because the Sensation is a gorgeous looking piece of kit!!

See this whole reception issue is bothering me about getting a Sensation?
Exactly the same situation for me as for Charmz2k2.
I also had a Sensation on Vodafone UK and had no end of signal issues. After 2 months of discussion they offered to swap the phone for a SGS2 and now I have no problems, using the same SIM and in the same places where I previously had issues with the Sensation.
Pity, as the Sensation is an awesome piece of hardware otherwise.

For my usage that's very poor news.
I'm on O2 UK and I have the same problem,
Phone signal, Wifi and GPS one minute and nothing the next. Same problem with my first Sensation! (Only not as bad)
My current one is going back for repair Friday, but I'm not holding my breath, I bet it comes back exactly the same!
Well i have to say it is good for me its the same as the iphone that i had before

No, I don't think it does. I've tried holding it all ways and even not holding it. Ive tried it in a holder, face down but still no difference that I can see
I'm glad a few others agreed with me!!
I travel the country (UK) for my job and cover about 2000 miles a month, so that's a lot of driving!!
I found that the signal would constantly be dropping while on the motorway using the sensation.
the SGS 2 has dropped a few times, but in comparison to the Sensation, it's barely anything.
I do think it's something to do with that back cover / antenna... maybe even a poor connection or something as small as that?

2 months ago I would have said stick with the Sensation, after jumping ship, the only thing I miss is HTC Sense as it is MUCH better than TW, but chuck on Launcher Pro or something and it's manageable - the main point is I now have a phone which will 9.9 times out of 10 have signal when I need it
At the end of the day, they're pretty similar spec-wise, it's your choice as to what you want - and in all fairness, out of ALL the people who bought the sensation, we might be a minority who have the signal issues..
All I would say is that Vodafone DO look after their customers (after a bit of frustration with a few of their employees) as they swapped my phone even 3 and half months after I signed up!!

[Q] Wi-Fi Problem still exists in HTC Desire S? - Want to buy soon

Hello Friends,
I am new here and I am interested in buying HTC Desire S
But I saw here and on various other forums/websites, that there's a major WiFi signal loss problem when the device is held in Landscape Mode
So, this problem still exists? I love this phone as it's awesome and in my budget and my main usage will be by means of Wi-Fi
Kindly help
Thanks and Regards
Even though i knew that it has serious issue of poor reception and signal drop, i still bought it as i love this phone. And the answer to your question is,
Yes. it still has poor reception.
Now its up to you if you want to buy it or not.
Is it a Hardware Defect?
I have read somewhere, after FOTA update the problem is gone/rectified a bit
Anyways, I am disappointed
I never noticed a signal drop at mine, except that it lasts a little til it gets the full signal back after returning from sleep, but that's cause of my settings.
Maybe it has to do with my radio image.
You find it (and the related thread) at my signature.

The problem was reduced after the OTA, all depends if you use the phone to type when in landscape mode (something I never do) depends on your size (or the size of your hands I reckon!)
Great device!
The Wi-Fi does indeed lessen if held in a certain manner - but because I have a very strong signal from my router it never drops out completely. I imagine it could be an issue if your base signal is low to start with.

Welcome to XDA! Yes I'd agree with previous post. Only really an issue if your router is far away to begin with. And being aware of the cause (covering the camera lens area with your hand) means that in a vast majority of cases, you shouldn't have any serious issues with signal drop.
It's a fantastic phone. Since buying mine nearly six months ago I've not had a single instance where I've had a signal drop out whilst I've been trying to use WiFi. You have to TRY to make it drop out in my experience.
Hey friends
Thanks a lot for all your responses
Just wanted to show you this video from YouTube: www . youtube . com / watch?v=qd7XdLmAFUo - See how that guy is holding the phone in Landscape Mode
I don't think, I am (rather say no one is) going to hold the phone in that way while using it on Wi-Fi
Anyways I have following questions:
1. What happens if the phone is lying on Table which is made from either of wood/metal? Will it get disconnected from Wi-Fi
2. HTC Desires S got Android 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 3.0 updates in UK and these updates are getting displayed as a pop-up notifications and are completely dependent on Mobile Operator one is using.
So, do you know/think, in India (Vodafone/AirTel), HTC gives updates by means of Network Operators. Or we have to install the Updates manually after hunting for them
Once cleared, I will jump and order the Phone online
Thanks a lot
P.S. I am new to Android

1. Never noticed any problems.
2. Maybe, but when I think no one could say^^ But if you take a look at the development section there are many sense 3 and also some sense 3.5 roms based on 2.3.5, if you don't want to wait till it's official release. Without sense you could also get Android 2.3.7 within cyanogen^^

Swyped from my Desire S
Definetly have problems here.
I have compared it to my other devices, and the desire s has the weakest signal, when far away from the router. It's a realy pain when im upstairs and want to use WiFi.
It also drops a bit when I cover it up with my hand.
The 'fixes' they have around, and built into custom kernels don't seem to work for me either
It's a real pain for me everytime I lose signal and have to reconnect!
It's a shame for me, but other than that I highly highly recommend this phone! It is really good!

It's strange, I get a good Wi-Fi signal anywhere in the house with no problems.
If I cover the plastic top rear panel of the phone with my hand, the signal strength does go down a bit, but it's never been a problem.
Maybe it's like the GPS - I find that the case I bought degrades my GPS reception, yet other people with the same type of case seem to experience no problems.
Overall though, I like this phone despite the imperfections. I don't regret buying it.
Its a very good phone for the price.
India does not have a FOTA update yet but to install custom roms or sense 3.0 you will have to root your phone.
As far as wi-fi goes i have had slight problems with the device but it was solved by using the wi-fi fix and also by custom kernels so go ahead!
I tried to make my phone lose wifi signal but only when i really cover up every part of the back of the phone i see some difference.
But when using normal i never experience any loss.

3G/HSPA Connectivity Issue

Hi,
My One S seems to occasionally have a few connectivity issues with 3G, I am not sure they are related to the signal issues already discussed in other threads in this forum. I have an international handset, MAO black version (has two tiny chips too, but not worth complaining about), running stock firmware, haven't done the dev unlock yet.
1) Sometimes the phone shows 'No Service', but I still have a working data connection and can make calls. Sending/receiving SMS appears not to work for some reason though. Can work around by switching into and out of airplane mode. Until I do that any SMS I compose under these conditions just pends, after the workaround they do get sent after a few minutes.
2) Sometimes something seems to go wrong with the 3G data connection, all the internet apps suddenly say they have no connection, alogcat says that DNS lookup is repeatedly failing even though I have a strong signal and 3G/HSPA connection (also tried connecting to IP addresses directly, doesn't work either). Tried getting online via Wi-Fi and it works, but all the Internet connectivity fails if I turn Wi-Fi off. If I reboot the phone it is able to get online again.
I brought this problem up in a live chat with HTC customer support and they have advised me to arrange for them to collect the phone for repair, the shop from whom I bought the phone advised the same. Just thought I would share it here and find out if it is common, or it is likely, as HTC think, there's something wrong with my phone's antennae. (My thought is that both could also be software problems)
Anyone else experience problems like this?
I get the no service thing all the time, I pull it out of my pocket and press the power button, it says no service. I am going to call t-mobile in the next few days, I am trying to collect more data. It does it on my same spot on the couch where I used to get good coverage on my old phone. It does it on the same desk at work that I used to get good reception at. It kinda sucks.

I get the no service thing all the time, I pull it out of my pocket and press the power button, it says no service. I am going to call t-mobile in the next few days, I am trying to collect more data. Yup, I get that and trying to get more data before sending it back to HTC. I'm not really certain but it's as if there is something wrong antennae? Seems to be quite a few with similar mobile network issues though.
I still have my old Motorola and with sim out of One S in the reception is good where the One S struggles to get a signal - if at all
I have the same issue as Kenyw:
No connection for a while although within covered area.
Strong connection bars but no internet
Usually I switch to airplane mode and back then it works...until the next time!
Very frustrating! I don't think changing the phone would solve the problem!
I have the same exact issue as the OP. Another example would be the streaming of music using Pandora and Slacker. I can listen to 1 song and skip 2 or 3 songs at best before I start having issues where it just keeps loading and I am in 4G range and 3G which shouldn't be a problem still.
Same issue here.

I did exchange my One S for another and it is just the same
It's a bit of a queer issue. I know where I live I have a good Three UK signal as per experience with the Motorola phone. I can be anywhere between 2 bars (approx 104dBm) and no signal in the house and around the yard. Yet I can walk 20 yards towards mast approx 1 mile away and as soon as I get LOS (no buildings, trees) on the mast I get full signal???
I buy my One-S a week ago in Germany and facing the same issue in Israel with Orange 3.5G network. I really don't know what to do now.

Alon,
As mentioned in many different threads opened here in XDA, the issue is related to the phone and its current software version and not to the operator/SIM/area in the world.
Stay tuned and hopefully shortly HTC will provide OTA update or root your device and install one of the custom ROMs based on the new RUU 1.70 which might be solving this issue.
Oren
Thanks,
I will keep waching the threads around waiting for solution.
I tried TrickDroid v1.0 base 1.70 but still same problem

Noticed decreased benchmark performance on quadrant but improved battery life and system UI seems to be more fluid.

ok but more fluidity shouldn't affect cpu and I/O results!! HTC isn't doing a great job here...

HTC One S (Helicopter SOLVED)

Hi there!
I just figured out that in "WCDMA Preffered" mode, in call time signal strength reach 16-17 asu makeing screen go crazy, than I simply set "WCDMA Only" and signal strength has stabilized with 12-13 asu or less in call time. The issue dissapear..
You can set it up eighter entering "Test menu" (*#*#3424#*#*) or in "Settings - Mobile Data - Network Mode - (WCDMA Only)
NOTE: The setting persist after reset so you don't need to reapply it every time.
Later edit: My test was made in a high signal area from my carrier. Now I'm testing in a lower signal strenght area (neutral zone) and my asu is 6-7 and this is great.
Enjoy your HTC One S
Soo far the issue gone. Keep this up (vote and say thx)
Hi again, after 3 days testing my theory the issue seems to completely gone. I reactivate long press home button eveything is normal.
Ohh.. just a little thing forgot to mention that doing this you lost 2 lines of signal. No more helicopter but -2 lines cover and probably this ain't so helpfull those with allready low cover in some areas. BUT this seems to be the only way to get rid of this issue.
My final decision!
Edit: Please pin my topic!

I have tried that but it resets to the default setting when you restart the phone.
EDIT: Seems to stay at that setting now. Will see how it goes.

This issue manifest most often durring calls when gsm signal interact with capacitive sensor. So you can test it very simple by makeing a call even to your free carrier number, put on speaker and tri to browse the web durring call or just play with the menu.. open / close apps..
Up topic
Its 9 days for me since the issue gives no signs comming back.
UP topic , Please pin my topic!
Thx

The problem is only repressed... when you are in an area without WCDMA/UMTS your phone is dead...
Indeed... I sayd before..on 31 jan but at last is an improvement when no one comes with any solutions, I did..
Since I've updated to official update 3.19.401.102 the problem seems to of gone.
I have switched back to gsm/wcdma auto with no problems so far.

My One S is not rooted yet and as every one knows HTC didn't update nothing for us. Before knowing about this issue i though my phone have some problems and i need to go to a service or something.. after i heard about the issue.. i was thinking.. mabe HTC will develop some update, but now that i realize that HTC will never do such a thing i was looking for something to stop the issue without doing any sofware changes.
Please keep me up to date about your ROM and if the issue is not comming back, i'll think about a software change..
As a fact you can give us some fresh links with your ROM
Best regards,
Andrew

Ok than.. i'm S-OFF my phone now! Give me some minutes..
Later edit: for s-off you need unlock bootloader and rooted phone.. i don't know how the hell in the world you s-off without root.. anyway i unlock my phone but unable to root coz i'm not able to find ClockworkMod Recovery .. i lost all of my apps for nothing. s-off didn't work just with phone unlocked .

Helicopter still happens with the update but not as much.
Hi every one!
I did managed to Unlock / Root / S-OFF my HTC One S, i had some issues with the CWM untill i got a good recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-villec2.img but i still not receive any update from HTC..
Finally the issue is continue to manifest so.. the only thing we can do at this moment is switching to "WCDMA Only" as i sayd before.
This is a hardware issue that i read about .. there are 2 HTC One S models (probably motherboard series) and one of them has this issue.. so do what i did and stop searching for answers, this is the only way without risking of bricking your device or void your warranty searching for a better solution.
Enjoy it as it is or.. buy a new one if you can't live with it the setting !
Could a software update not solve the problem? I thought htc knew about the issue.
If you look at this link it seems htc know about the issue

Been on the phone to HTC and they said it wasn't an issue with this phone and to do a factory reset.
Not very helpful.
