Note Edge (SM N915F) lags/freezes every 10-20 seconds - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA!
I have a problem with my device, Galaxy Note Edge (SM N915F).
My phone lags about 1 second every 10-20 seconds. I opened logcat (catlog app from Google Play) and i see Choreographer skipped N(generally 30 to 60) frames when lag occurs. I make a search about choreographer and i learned it is for syncing app and screen, basically VSync. Message from logcat says "The application may be doing too much work on its main thread.". This may be true for a user app, but even using Camera, it lags every 6-10 seconds. Btw device is rooted and has a custom recovery (CWM).
Thanks for any help!

How's the screen feel when it happens?
Warm at all?
Most phones cool through the screen, IIRC.

Sometimes warm, sometimes super hot(top right of screen), sometimes not warm at all. I take phone, unlock it, open camera app, shake it to see if it freezes, it freezes for 1 seconds. Captured video from camera does not have any lags btw.

So you're running a rooted phone.
Do you save your video directly to an sd card or to the phone's internal storage?

Phones internal storage. But it doesn't matter. I tried to saving to SD card too. I dont think if this is a storage problem because even when messaging, screen freezes for 1-2 seconds. Screen freezes but not app itself. Consider I am writing 'something'. Screen freezes at 'some', after freezing done 'thing' was there. So screen is unresponsive sometimes.

I got exactly the same problem, Galaxy note 4 duos, the problem started today, I have no idea whether it is some app actualisation or something else. Anybody knows what to do?

Btw, I did cache wipe, then factory reset, removing sd does not help, neither plugging charger. Phone lags every 30 sec for 1 second.

The best I can figure is it has something to do with the way the phone handles data.
Maybe something is misbehaving?
An app' is doing something the phone's security is not totally happy with?

I can record video, so you can see what it is doing. Today I also tried booting into save mode + I uninstalled all aplications and turned off the ones, that could not be uninstalled. Same problem. I also noticed that information that the phone has logged to wifi network occur very often, but when is the phone offline, airplane mode and no wifi or other connection, problem is still there. Today I ordered new battery, because mine is quite old now.
Donť know what else to try anymore.

Hi friends, thanks for help, I got it fixed!!! I hard reseted phone again and carefully installed all aplications and tested the phone. I found out the problem was weather app, after installing it, the problem appeared, after uninstall and restarted, problem is gone and phone is lighning faat. Thx thx thx

Now that you mention it, I seem to remember getting rid of a weather app' for that reason.

[Q] Nexus S suddenly very slow - error message

I love my nexus s, but suddenly the OS became very slow and I need help on where to start the trouble shooting.
It is the entire operating system -- even the touch screen.
I will pull down the notifications window and it will get stuck,
The browser select screen will pop up when I click on the "world" icon to open up the internet and after I select browser, there is a long pause before the background color appears (recognizing that I selected which browser) and then there is another long pause after recognizing that I selected it.
I have installed apps from other sources besides the android market.
At first I started thinking that I had too many apps running, so I started using the apps manager to force close the apps, but that did not help.
I tried restarting the phone multiple times with mixed results. Sometimes it would help a little, other times not at all.
I looked at how much room I had left on the internal drive and started moving more to the USB drive -- that didn't help.
I started wondering if I installed too many apps.
Then suddenly, when barely chugging alone to try to update a few apps (literally the install part was lagging -- not the download) I got an error message:
Error: Activity Android System(in process system) is not responding
It's funny -- when I want to replicate the error (as in right before writing this post - I cannot).
Thanks for your help on this matter.
Please instruct me on where to start trouble shooting.

no root. Thanks for fast reply.
my hunch is that an app was screwing something up.
There were a few that I wasn't updating because I didn't like how they started changing permissions. But maybe I should go through and update every app that I can... thoughts?

update is good. there could be an app freaking out holding up the system.
And at the worst case scenario you can do a factory reset (menu, settings, privacy) and see if that fixes it... of course you'll need to re-install your apps afterwards

try updating your apps. a factory reset will help, but that should be your last option. launcher apps replace the stock launcher, the thing you press to open the app drawer and that holds the phone app and such.
My phone was acting all sorts of crazy lately (couldn't connect to the internet amongst other random performance issues) and it turned out to be an app causing the problems. It was actually one of two apps. It was either Tetris or memory trainer. I deleted them right after one another so I'm not sure exactly... Just a heads up to be cautious if you're using these. For the record these apps were from the official Android market.

I've a smartphone which tends to shutdown randomly on its free will. Help, please.

Hi there,
I'm having a problem with my smartphone and i felt like this is the #1 place to ask for guidance on android issues over the interwebz.
I have a low-budget Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360.
It's running what it came with, Android 2.3.6 / Gingerbread.XXLK3.
30 minutes after having it, i foolishly decided i need more internal memory and rooted the device, in order to remove the useless apps on it.
It was a total slaughter. I think i even pwnd Samsung Apps app.
Anyway, device worked well for months after the bloody carnage, but recently backfired right into my face with random shutdowns.
I have no proper idea on the reasoning of these shutdowns but i've collected some data on the subject, here they are;
- It randomly shuts down almost every day. Just 3-5 times a day if it's on a good mood. Over 10-12 if it feels down.
- Device never shuts down while being charged or connected through USB.
- Device usually shuts down after i used power button to lock the screen.
- It's not being locked on black screen, it definitelly shuts down, not properly tho. (no small time vibrating)
- I feel like front sensors (which turns off the screen during calls) might be causing this, because lately it's shutting down whilst calls on my face. I even managed to shut it down by wiping the mentioned sensors with my thumb.
- Sometimes it can be shut down by brute force. I mean putting it down to table a little bit harder than average.
- My SDCard is problematic, it gets unmounted and says its damaged but i tend to ignore it and just reply with "sssh everything is gonna be alright" (format and reuse)
- I have only a handful of apps which contains bank & password apps etc. Nothing serious going on with my services.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT IF YOU RECOGNIZE THE SEMPTOMS.
What should i do? A custom rom? New battery?
Thanks in advance.
Bonus information;
I've never seen it shutdown with my own eyes.
It usually happens when its' screen is blacked out, when i put it in my pocket or table.
Or when i try to make a call and put it against my head.
So whatever is happening, it happens while the screen is blacked out.
It neves turned off while listening to music either.

might be you should go to recovery mode and do a data factory rest and also might need to clear the cache partition.

Do you use micro sd card?
I'm having the exact same issue after using the google photos app in combination of the samsung gallery app. After a while pictures stop loading and the phone starts getting really slow. If i just press the power button the screen goes off. But i can't get it to go on again except powerbutton + volume down reset. I've been thinking about it aswell, and the sd card must be the problem here. But it has worked perfectly fine for months and even in previous phones. But recently i've been on a trip and made all my pictures with my s7. I made like 30gigs worth of pictures. Either the gallery app has somekind of memory leak or my sd card is wonky.

Yes, i use Micro sd card Lexar 128gb 1000x UHS-II.
But maybe i found the problem, today no "freeze deep sleep" after i uninstall Samsung Music Player downloaded from Playstore. I hope this is the problem, i try it for other two day and after i'll tell you
My sd card is sandisk 64G
I've run a few tests on it to check if something is wrong with the sd card. Its just fine.
My phone actually can't even wake up with home button however, so i think it might be different problem.
I want to use Google photos, but it isn't able to remove pictures from the sd card. Thats why i use the stock samsung gallery app. But i'm sure one of those apps is making my phone crash.
It doesn't happen right away. If I keep scrolling down the pictures stop loading instantly and it starts to go insanely slow, thats when it will crash ... if i turn of the screen it won't come up again no matter what (except force reboot).

Why don't you try without the SD card for a while to see if the problem disappears?
Maybe there is an issue with the SD card and it scans it every time it wakes from deep sleep.

I had the same issue several times a day so bought a new sd card and issue gone away
Sent from my SM-G930F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Since I removed Spotify on my Handy last week, I had no problems yet.
Maybe it is a Software-Problem by Spotify that hurts my phone deep in the system.
Does someone know how I could prove that?
Ok guys I reinstalled the Spotify App (Version 6.0) and got the problem again. But this time just my whole systemUI crashed and my phone did not respond. I am glad there was no black screen.
But more I it seems there is a big problem in the Spotify App!
As a experiment I download one of my playlists and saved it on the SD-Card. Do you think that could be the problem?
I save all my pics from the camera also on SD-Cad and had no problem anytime. In the time where Spotify was not installed on my phone I had no issues!!
Does someone has an Idea what I can do to fix that problem?

Nougat for Zenfone 3 ZE552KL is now live!

I'm from Indonesia, and the update can be downloaded now
Check it manually on your settings
sorry cannot add external link for image now
Cannot play several game
For those who play Clash Royale, its not working (for me), its only showing black screen
Tried clear data and reinstall, still black screen
Mobile legend also, stuck on the splash screen
Anyone else face the same problem?
Edit: Reboot solved the issue, thanks to @flaming homer
I haven't updated yet but I would like to ask a few questions:
1: For best results, you update your phone first and then do a factory reset or not?
2: Backing up data - How to back up my data (Contacts/Apps/Music/Photos) the best way without risking to lose it?
3: How long does the update take to install itself? How much battery should I have for it?
Thank you.
if you have a ze552kl device you can download nougat update from here: https://www.asus.com/it/Phone/ZenFone-3-ZE552KL/HelpDesk_Download/
Star Trek Timelines stuck on "Activating Combadge"
Edit: Another reboot seemed to have solved this issue

In order of your questions:
1. Ideally you would do a factory reset, but it's not a big deal if you don't. Most people won't, it's mainly just something that enthusiasts do to keep their phone as snappy and stable as possible.
2. That really depends on what you want to back up. For apps, that should be done automatically to your Google account. Photos should be the same if you've set up Google Photos. Music depends on how you put it on your phone in the first place, and contacts should be backed up automatically if you have it enabled on your Google account.
3. It took precisely 30 minutes on my phone. Your milage may vary depending on the number of apps you have, though.

Hi Blackrose,
1. I update the phone and didn't do factory reset, after the update finished, you need to reboot the device (if not, some application stuck on splash screen )
2. Its best for backing up data, but the update notice says storage will be decreased slightly, so if your storage is nearly full, you need to back up your data, but for me, I
update without backing up the data
3. I update at 79% of battery, and it takes around 15-20 minutes
Hope it can answer your question
Hi, I managed to update my smartphone successfully without losing almost any data (only a few wallpapers, because I forgot to back them up).
Thank God for the Helium app, which saved my game app data and other important app's data. It was a bit of a struggle to get it working but everything went fine at the end.
I haven't experienced any issues with Nougat so far.
Thanks for the replies. Best of luck!

Unable to activate the System Ui Tuner by long pressing the settings icon in the notification drawer. Is there any other way?
Lost the" No Peeking " notifications privileges after updating to Nougat.
After Nougat update auto focus does not work anymore while video recording. Videos are blurry. Could you please check if it is the same on your phones?

Hi @hiflyingme,
for System UI tuner, you can draw the notification completely, then you can find "edit button" next to "settings icon"
and for "No Peeking", I'm not sure it is the answer you search for, but for me, you can go to Settings>Notifications, choose application you wanted to hide peek, then activate "Show silently"

Actually, I have the same issue, and I have the SM-G930F.
I updated yesterday to 7.0 via Samsung Smart Watch, then did a factory reset and even cleared dalvik cache.
Prior to that I ran rooted 6.0.1.
Any suggestions, what might be causing this? And any other solution than to factory reset?

I have cleared cache and restarted and the problem still happend today...
