Dear Geeks,
I need your urgent help/advice. i'm three weeks far to my wedding and have a lot of troubles to handle, of course i need this phone.
let me describe the matter i have.
My nexus s is not booting, not starting, nothing.
what i did?
Last night, power button stopped working. I have experienced this 4-5 months ago. I don't know why, the problem has been solved by itself after few days later. i did nothing at those days. the power button came back. (as to my opinion, this is happening due to software problem) Anyway, i have used the market and installed ''fix power button'' application to use volume buttons for opening the screen.
I slept and when i woke up, i saw that phone needs to be charged but i waited. there was %11 something. i tried to handle the power button, pressed many times on it, thought that it may come back again same as 4-5 months ago it happened.
I removed battery and replaced again. i tried this many times. removed, replaced, used the usb cable via AC charger and phone started but there was no result. power button still was not working.
i thought that if the battery runs out, and then, when i charge the phone, maybe this matter may be solved. (ok this was stupid idea)
phone started to charge. when i plug the usb cable, phone was booting and displaying the google and animation and later it was ok to use.
meanwhile i keep on removing battery and replacing battery while the usb cable connected. but when phone starts to boot, i removed battery and replaced again. phone was ok, it was booting. few times it was booting.
but baaaam.
it is now not starting not booting, nothing.
now, when i replace the battery, phone is getting hot, especially sim-card area. i m removing the battery and connecting the usb. same again phone is getting hot, same sim-card area again.
i have waited enough not to connect the battery or usb charging cable. but no result.
what can i do now? what are your opinions?
my opinions/guess:
-i am using 3500 mah lithium polymere battery. maybe the battery died. i m using that battery more than 1 year, around 15 months. i dont turn off wi-fi so i m charging phone everyday.
- phone crashed during booting. and now the phone is totally brick.(i dont wanna believe this, this phone can be usable, believe me i feel it i think whatever happens, this phone can be usable via software installing or rooting... of course if you dont throw it towards a wall etc.)
by the way, my phone was not rooted. no time to root these days. and of course the phone was not starting.
what is your idea? what happened phone? what should i do?
if you reply, i will be appreciated.
A big advice for people reading this, dont remove the battery when your phone is booting.
I hope someone has a solution, since I have the same probelm...

dude, unfortunately those solutions not working on my device.
when i connect charger and i replace the battery, within seconds phone boots itself without power button. it should be this way. removing and replacing the battery helped me to start to boot.
i sense this case a bit different from that solutions.
i need to try with a different battery. my wife has nexus s also. she is very lucky she has no problems i have experienced so far. i will try with her battery.
i think there is a matter with mainboard.
by the way i forgot to say that i dropped my phone last evening. just after then phone was acting that i'm pressing long onto power button. and power button finally stopped working when i remove the battery.
i think this is happened because of dropping the phone from my belly high.
but the last thing i have done which removing the battery while the phone is booting, i wish, i should not have done. i could use it without the power button.

If you have not rooted your device, you should have you warranty, right? Take the phone back to the carrier, and tell them about your problem. o.o Sorry, I'm of no help, but you're in a horrible situation. Wanted to at least give a little help.
Same exact problem here.
2nd of August - mom's phone turned of and just would not boot or prompt at all. The modem heats up when power is turned on or connected.
Tried
The unbrickable methods (but the computer would not detect the device in any form)
A JTAG - I was able to write the recovery and bootloader - assembled the phone and it just won't boot or prompt
Need to try
Another battery to see if it solves the issue.
Removing the xOM5 resistor and converting to a development S5PC110
Tried another battery - no luck
Did the resistor removal and converted to a dev board - Unbrickable now detects the board!
trying to get the device into fastboot - will update

I had the same problem few months ago. Power button had died. While I was able to boot with remove battery and connect to charger option and I was rooted. But after a week I decided to take the phone to Samsung service center to get the power button replaced. My phone did not have warranty. Samsung took few hours to get the power button replaced and it costed me about $7. I think that's the easiest method. They did not have a stock of I9020 power button, so they fixed a I9023 power button.
Any update? I'm curious to see if you get it working. Had the same happen to my NS a few days ago and would like to see if I can get it going again so I can give it to my stepson.

I've given nexus s to samsung service. Actually, power button may be handled by replacing with new one, but with no hope, it will not come back when i read messages about mainboard failure. I will update news whenever it's possible.
we'll see.
I would like to hope it is kind of software matter.
Pls god give my nexus s back, i got extended 3500mah battery.
grrr....

So with the hardware mod - instead of selecting Nexus S -> I tied the Galaxy S in unbrickable - first time I've seen the screen alive! - puts the phone into download mode and I can disconnect from the usb and it stays in download mode! .. when i tried to flash odin I get a "There is no PIT partition" error -> this ofcourse is with re-partition and bootloader update UNCHECKED
When I tried Heimdall it wouldnt let me flash without a pit file. So trying Heimdall 1.1.1 - I get Failed to Access device Error: -3
Any chance some one with an i9020T can do me a huge favor? Use Heimdall 1.3.2 - download your PIT file and upload it here?
reaching for string ends out here :/

The power button had to be replaced. I shorted the connection when ever I had to press the power button during the boot sequence. That's how I fixed mine.
:crying: any ideas ?
everything was working perfectly and i didn't do anything , just when my first battery ran out , i shut it down and switch second battery then it just doesn't boot up anymore ... even with data cable connect with charger or PC, because usually it will show a charging animation when system isn't booted up ...
and one thing strange is that when i plug in my battery , phone doesn't boot up but it still heat up like i am using it ...

Same issue with mine. Yesterday, 8/20/12, I broke a sim card connector pin and Nexus S wouldn't recognize sim card after a reboot. Rebooted the device again after the warning message: Sim card not detected/found.
Now Nexus S won't boot. Computers (Windows & OSX) can't recognize it's connected and 5 different charges won't show that the battery is charging. Battery still has a charge as I tested it in another Nexus S. When the battery is in, the device heats up. When connected to a power source, the device heats up.
Used Unbrickable resurrector with no success. UR shows: Device not found, No device detected.
Finally, I was running Jelly Bean from OTA update and not rooted. I noticed that in the past week or two the stock Andoird keyboard would cause force closing of apps or exceed processor threshold of 35% even if there was no program running. Google Now was also sucking the battery after the JB update. Turned that battery drain off on the other Nexus. Also, the Android Media process was taking a drain on the processor. Usually running at 40-50%.
Bought this used from CowBoom and hoping the extended warranty will replace or fix the broken sim card connector and unbrick the phone.
Luckily I have an iPhone 4S and a 2 yr old HTC Desire to turn to.
I've read on another thread, perhaps?, that two other users in the past week or so have had this same problem.

Same happened to me. The Unbrickable resurrector also didnt detect the phone. so i made the Unbrickable Hardware Mod (httpxx://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566475) remove the xx from httpxx. now my phone is being detected and the tool is able to load its files. but still the phone is dead, no thing happens and the tool shows no device found after it loads the files. but when i picked GALAXY S from the drop down menu. the tool loads the files and now both the tool and the phone shows download mode with an android shoveling dirt. heimdall now detects the phone but it doesnt work caz its not a GALAXY S. So let us know what happens if u try this mod. cheers
The exact same thing happened to me. Strangely, it's happening with JB roms. And yeah, i told my problem in a very educated way on the ROM topic and they simply deleted the post, how nice.
Anyway, i just sent the phone to the warranty almost three weeks ago, i'm waiting for them to fix it or give me a new one.

well ... i don't have these tools to do hardware level of modifications ...
anyway , i just send to repair , i think , the motherborad or something should be replaced ...
i was thinking about buying a new phone such as Galaxy Nexus if my Nexus S can not be repaired or way too expensive to repair...
i had same issue a few days after upgrading to JB JRO03E. i got the main board replaced under warranty. took about 2 and half weeks.
the phone came back with GB installed but OTA'd to ICS then JB JRO03L.
I had the same issue running cm10-0823. Screen froze while sitting idle. Pulled and replaced battery, and phone won't come back.
Looks like cm10/jb is causing some burn-out in circuit board; cpu, memory...?

I have exactly the same problem I flashed Codename Android ROM 3.4.1, done some overclocking (only 1200 MHz) and the device crashed. Well, nothing unusual. But I removed the battery, I think it was just when the device was rebooting - I think display turned on, I noticed some flash when the battery was already removed.
I tried to turn on the device, but it's dead. Display doesn't turn on, UnBrickable Resurrector says device not found.
I can send the phone to the warranty, but it's unlocked. Do you think they will find out it's unlocked? Even if the download mod doesn't work etc?
What should I do?
Well, I happened to end up with the same problem. Installed latest cm 10 nightly, started rebooting my phone. The moment I restarted it from CWM I realised that I forgot to flash some mod in CWM so I pulled the battery to go into recovery. Phone bricked, no input at all. Sent my phone on warranty, I hope they won't mind it had unlocked bootloader and cm10 on it ;P
That's just a bit stupid to be honest, pulling the battery while booting why not just wait?
Sent from my Nexus S
Now I know it's stupid. Do you think they will repair it even though it's cm flashed and unlocked?
i sent mine to repair and they fixed without paying a dime!

I had the same issue back in August just after I flashed 4.1.1/JRO03E. It just died one day while listening to music. Took about 3 weeks to get the mainboard replaced under warranty. It came back bootloader unlocked and with Gingerbread 2.3.3 installed.
Hey community,
i bought a sony xperia z3 three months ago.
Yesterday I recognized that my phone was at 50% battery after charging the whole night.
I thought that its a bug or something and I got my real 100%, but after ~3 hours it was still at 50% and suddenly there was the "you have to charge your phone"-pop up for 1ms.
So i decided to plug in my charger and thought my phone will charge again. But no, the battery icon also switched from 14% to 50% in this 1ms. It was going on like (13%<->50%, 12%<->50% and so on) this until my phone died and got 0%.
I haven't unlocked my bootloader, flashed it or something like this. It was the original vodafone branded sony xperia z3.
Until now I can't charge my phone, because everytime I plug in the charger, my phone is booting with the low-battery icon and after 5 seconds it's turning of in a loop. Booting for 5 seconds and then shutting down and so on...
I thought my phone will have enough battery when I will plug in the charger for the whole night and my phone will try to start in this loop until it has enough battery. But again, nope!
Now I decided to unlock the bootloader and flash my phone with Cyanogenmod 12 or CMW, because my phone is accessible from the computer. I can go into the flashboot and flash mode.
But also after unlocking and flashing I've got the same thing again. It won't start.
I tried to charge it for about 4 hours in flashboot mode, because then the blue light is shining and my phone is not shutting down. But NOPE, same **** again.
I don't know what I can do anymore. Can you help me?
Do you think I have to change the battery?
Looking forward to hear from you! It's only three months old never dropped or something like this.
greetings and sorry for the wall of text
shimmy
bro warranty covers that, but as soon as u unlocked bootloader, u kinda voided that too =(
go to Vodafone and DO NOT mention that you unlocked bootloader and explain the problem within 2 weeks of purchase u should receive a brand new device and afterwards they'll repair it for you
I have a small crack (2mm thick and I think it came from pressure) at the backcover and asked vodafone if they can change my backcover, because now it's not guaranteed that it's waterproof.
They said no, because it's my own fault if something is cracked or broken on the case and I have to pay 259€ to get a new one.
Yesterday I called vodafone again because of this problem and they won't repair it, because of my first support case and I have to pay 259€ to get a new phone. I was arguing for about 1 hours that this is a guarantee case and it has nothing to do with the crack, but they don't care and there are some laws that I could say that they have damaged my phone and so on. No chance.. Maybe I should call my advocate.
I read something about locking the bootloader? Maybe I can flash a stock version and lock the bootloader?
Try yellow reset button.
I also tried this before. It doesn't fix the problem.
Hi guys, Sorry to bring up such a old post but having a similar issue.. My Mrs phone just started rebooting one day, Vodafone refused to replace because tiny crack. The boot loader is unlockable I tried repairing with xperia windows tools the flashed older and different firmware's many times. The phone works when connected to PC but when unplugged or on normal charger just constant reboot.
Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks

Been using the Xperia Z5 (E6653 Rev 4) from Bell over the last month with mostly no issues (expect the phone freezing once). However, the phone just went completely dead.
I had about 70% battery, was playing a game and had Chrome open. I looked up a video on youtube because my sister asked about it. I was just about done so I just pressed the multitask button to close all the apps (just those 3).
After they were all closed, suddenly the phone froze, . Phone did not respond to any button press. About 30 seconds later the screen turned off by itself. Still no response. I figured I would do the force shut down by pressing and holding the off button beside the SIM card. After a few seconds of holding it down, the phone vibrated 3 times. I figured it was off so I tried to restart it, but no response again from the buttons. LED light also does not come on when I plug it in nor does my computer recognize the phone.
Is the phone dead and I should take it back to Bell? Or am I missing some kind of weird button combination or something in order start the phone again? If someone knows something please let me know. Thanks.
Try again the buttons & use the USB wallcharger to power it on.

tried all the buttons with the USB plugged in. still no response.
I also tried leaving the USB plugged in for a while. I can't say I know how electronics work in situations like these... but I don't think it's even charging the battery since the phone still feels really cool to the touch.

Strange,
Then you should use SEUS / PC Compagnion to repair your phone.
If that won't work, go back to the shop.\
Good Luck
Unfortunately, the computer doesn't recognize the phone. It says "one of the USB devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".
I figured it was dead and I had to take it back to the store. I will give them a call to see if they are open today.
Very ironic since earlier in the day I was just thinking about how happy I was with the Z5 and then this happens without warning.
You try pressing volume up while pressing power?
yes I did. I tried and held it for 20 seconds as I read somewhere. then I tried Volume Down too... I don't know if I should have done that first, as I attempted the Off button method right away because that is what I saw on the Sony website.
I phoned Bell, and they also told me to do the Volume Up+Power. I told them it didn't work and they said they will need to send it in for repair.
edit: the guy at the Bell store says the phone is most likely fried, so it needs to be sent in for repair. I am the unlucky first, apparently. Though he says it was pretty common for other Xperia devices.
That sucks. I don't mess with the hard reset button, ever.
"Pretty common on other xperia devices? " I think he's messing with you. I have had alot of xperia devices and not a single one was fried before. On the other hand, my friends lg g3 and some galaxy phones fried before.
Me too,
never had problems with my SE or Sony Xperia 's.
Had a K700i, X10i, Arc (Great slim smartphone), Xperia T, Z1 and now Z5.
The best smartphones imho, only miss one thing.. Easy Rooting on LB

Hi yall and Happy New 2017 to all comrades
Gentleman,
I have an annoying issue with my Xperia Z5. Yesterday I finally agreed to let the automatic update commence after post-poning the damn thing for a week. Started at 48% of battery, the phone switched of and underwent with the system update installation as usual. Nothing extraordinary throughout the the whole process - the progress bar filled up all the way to 100% and the Sony attempted a reboot. Unluckly the reboot did not happen. Blank black screen with no signs of life in it whatsoever.. Holding down the Power Button doesn`t change anything. Holding down the Power Button + Volume up / Volume down (any kind of combinations with these three) doesn`t work as well. Sticking the charger in is the only thing that makes a little difference where the LED will start flashing red periodically , but not holding solid red light as it would have been charging. Holding down the Power Button until the charger is plugged makes the led solid red, but as soon as I let go on the button the light vanishes too..
This has been well frustrating already. I tried to hook it up to Sony Companion (their mumbo-jumbo soft for sony devices~pc) but no life doctor, I read no pulls.
My phone is not rooted and was carrying the stock Android Marshmallow (don`t even now the version).
I used to root every single device I had since 2012 with that including HTC Sensation XE, HTC HD2 convertion from Windows to Android, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3. With this beauty i decided to take the other way of keeping things simple and just for the sake of my social life and my miss, as I get pretty addicted once it comes to custom ROMs and such. Put in other words - although I don`t want to go there I would if needed to get my phone back to life, as I start work back tomorrow and half of my job is receiving 60+ calls and emails and i`m kinda f*ck#d without my smartphone. Unfortunately I do not own any other device which would cover me for the time being nor friend that would help.. - im friendless
Anybody ? Resurrection ideas plleaaaaasseeee
Is it enter fastboot or flashmode?
If no,what happened if you connect it to computer.
Same thing happened to me when upgrading from .253 to .305 last October...
I was at 60% and left the phone charging while it updated and then the phone just died.
No way to boot, red LED when plugged in to charge and not detected by any computers, so no possibility to fastboot...
Also fully stock, but makes me miss my old rooted HTC M7...
Contacted Sony and was told that I would have to ship it to Singapore and pay both ways and for repairs (which would cost the same as a new Z5), so i just bought a new E6603 for my sister and took her E6653. Sony rep also told me not to update from OTA, but to use Xperia Companion. Seriously?!To provide OTA's but we're not supposed to use the?! I ran CM Nightlies on my M7 for over a year and never had any issues with OTA builds/dirty flashes!
Probably won't be buying another Sony phone (for myself or any friends or relatives) after this. You kill my phone with your update and then tell me that you wont cover the repair/replacement?!

Ok, I`m willing to try that. Any chance you could advise me to solid working flashtool and a thread with a step by step bootloader unlocking + flash + root guidance ?
Try first if your phone can goes to flashmod/fastboot
If your pc detect your phone as QHUSB_DLOAD than it's a hardbrick and a motherboard replacement is needed, next time NEVER use ota on a rooted/unlocked bootloader
What i can say is that yourdevie is fota bricked
Edit: similar case :https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
If your phone can enter fastboot/flashmod this is no big deal, just flash a new firmware the one you want with flashtool but by excess of prudence check all case in wipe section before flashing, now you'll be good to go, you'll just have to set all you thinks back, but I guess you prefere this to a dead phone
