So I have bought a HTC u11 plus and should get it today. What I have done the past week is check my bands at the places I visit most. And while driving. I used lte discovery app to help me with this and some Google searches. In my findings band 2 is hardly used when I am at home or driving. My 1+5 is always on band 4 or 12. At home is the only place where it is on band 2 but it switches to 4 and uses this mostly but I use wifi calling at home due to coverage sucking at my house. I did a Google search on band 2 and it is not very good around my areas. So people with TMobile USA should be fine to get this phone and use here. Also my cousin has a HTC 10 from overseas which has less bands enabled and has never had an issue with lte or call connection with TMobile. Once I get the phone I will do more testing for TMobile folks. Let me know your results if you have any.

Lol i got the notification on this and saw CJ. For a minute i was like is he referring to me? Who the heck is CJ lol i laughed after i figured it out. . Anyway so after having the phone in my hands with all of its beauty and awesomeness. I could not take it anymore. This phone works great if you have a wifi and data connection all the time. But for people who still makes voice phone calls it is the worst.. so bad i put it on ebay yesterday. I got so frustrated the other day. I was trying to make a call and when you do, it drops down to 2g,3g. The call qualty on that is horrible. The calls always dropped and when i did have a good connection the quality was horrible. Half the time i would not get text messages and not everyone uses whats app and that is what i was trying to use because i always will have data. No VOLTE which i missed no WIfi calling which does come in handy. So i kept looking and band 2 does more than LTE I believe that band 2 also deals with AWS which is needed for calling. Man i tried.... i tried to put up with it here in the states. The phone itself is just amazing the Pixel that got away is what i call it. So if you are here in the states Dont buy it unless you have data connection and everyone has like data messaging or calling for a strong data connection. I am really sad and dissapointed at HTC the phone i have been waiting for since the HTC sensation 4g. Hopes this helps.

Well, crap. Thank you for conducting the experiment. Yeah, it's the Pixel 2XL WITH an sd card slot, which is what I want, except apparently without Band 2, the thing's hobbled. I was gonna install the Google HDR+ camera app and have it all! Damn.
I got my hopes up because I saw reports of people bringing the Exynos Note 8 over here and getting it to work, but IT has Band 2! Seriously, how tough is it to add these bands! Do people want to sell phones or not?!!
Anyway, thanks again. An answer is an answer, even if it's not the one I was hoping for.
And yeah, if you're reclaiming that term, I completely respect that, but I still gotta go with CJ.
Sucks to hear that. I've been using my HTC U11+ in the Bay Area for about two weeks now and so far it's been absolutely flawless. Not a single issue finding LTE or dropping calls.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I got it from Amazon. Took about 4-5 days to receive it even though Amazons system said 2 weeks. I also just noticed that it's a decent amount cheaper now as well compared to when I bought it in December by over $100.

I agree with this I've had zero issues so far since getting this phone. Only had it for a day now but prior to I ran LTE Discover on my HTC U11 and saw I very rarely used Band 2 (San Diego). After some digging I saw how Band 2 works on T-Mobile and I'm OK without it. I'll be in Vegas in a week so I'll be curious how it holds up there, though I don't really expect hiccups. The one thing I do want to get back is VOLTE/VOWIFI.

I'm not far from you and I just picked up my U11+ from Swappa. Does this phone actually read "4G LTE" when in LTE service area? I have not seen it yet. I have the Nexus 6 and a Note 5 and both have had that when in and around Maryland. THanks for replying when you do.

No, it just says 4G. However, when using apps such as Speed Test by Ookla, it says I'm connected to "LTE T-Mobile", and the speed test are roughly what I was getting on my previous iPhone 6S Plus.

Thank you. I did install LTE Discovery and was able to get information on what band I am on and more. It keeps flipping back to 'H' loads which is made me wondering what I might be doing wrong if it is not in the phone itself. I am in a strong 4G LTE area for work (base) and home. My Nexus 6 and my Note 5 always read 4G LTE in an area as such. I still love this phone even though it's not 2 weeks old yet.
I'm tempted to get this for an upgrade from my HTC 10. I don't care too much about the dual camera for the HTC 12+, plus I want it in Red which might not even come out in the US. So with the bigger battery 3,900 mah, about $200 less and the red color now. Would this be a good buy if I typically travel around the east coast?
I have one I purchased on a recent trip overseas to Taiwan. My carrier here in the US is Tmobile and I only have connectivity issues in rural areas. Can someone point me to a stock ROM from Tmobile that would be compatible with this phone?
Thanks.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Charge is capable of simultaneous voice and data?
If so, is it while on 4G only, or, like the Thunderbolt, can it do while in a non-4G area?
Searched around Google and get conflicting reports, so hoping someone here can clear up.
Thanks.
The Revolution is the only one so far that can do VoLTE, as for the Charge I have been looking to see if it has SVDO like the ThunderBolt. I had thought at one point it did but now I can't find that info.
No voice and data on 3g. It only works on lte.
the tbolt was supposed to be the only one of the initial launch lte phones that could do voice/data on 3g simultaneously

True VoiceOverLTE ("VoLTE") does not exist yet. Should be functional in late 2012.
Correct, Verizon isn't supporting it yet, but the LG Revolution has completed the first test call and it is capable of VoLTE, but again until Verizon supports it, its mute.

(No sarcasm!)
No sarcasm received , but here is an article about it http://www.slashgear.com/verizon-co...er-lte-call-on-a-commercial-network-09132406/ but the long term is where the focus has to be on getting these features in every LTE phone.
You are correct, the Thunderbolt is the only phone on Verizon that can talk and web over 3G. I thought I would miss it by giving up my Thunderbolt to my wife but southern California where I live is well blanketed with 4G and I'm in LTE coverage most of my daily usage.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm really back and forth on whether I want one or not. I've always used the "no simultaneous voice and data" as a reason not to switch to Verizon. The Thunderbolt took away that excuse, so I took the plunge, but I miss the SAMOLED screens, especially when outside.
I probably don't use voice/data at the same time as much as I think, but I know the times in the past when a friend on Verizon couldn't get a picture or email I sent while we were talking on the phone were very annoying.
Verizon's keeping me from getting one anyways, when the heck are they going to release the darn thing?

What part of SoCal you in? LTE is strong in most places I frequent, but some places, like Santa Clarita = no LTE. My work takes me to that area often enough that it's a concern (for example, I'm on a project near Magic Mountain for the next two weeks).

1:45 mark for the impatient. I still can't stand the damn physical buttons. But I'm so torn on the LTE. Stay and play with GSM and hope for LTE in 6-12 months or move now to CDMA, blahhhh!, and play with the future in LTE?
I prefer capacitative buttons too. It's the main thing I like better about the Thunderbolt so far. At least the buttons are bigger and require less force than the Droid X.
I live in Orange County which was one of the first LTE markets launched I'm currently in San Jose which has very decent LTE coverage. I did notice on my drive through Santa Clarita the 4G was spotty. I'm sure that will be improving shortly.

I just got the phone today me and fiance both got same phone we were told our area had 3g coverage i contacted tmobile support and the tech stated it is not availabe he actually suggested we seek another carrier anyone have any suggestions to getting better quality signal and data...
Since you bought it from Tmob you should ask and get the unlock codes for free and also should be opt out of the early contract termination fee as well because it was not your fault about the coverage area. Don't let them push you around. Stick to your guns that the tmob rep said you would have 3G and yet you do not.
Check with ATT and see if they have better coverage in your area. The G2X can work on ATT networks as well but you would have to do some research on the settings and etc.
Thats my two cents if your gonna leave Tmob and keep the phones.
As for getting better reception or data signal theres pretty much nothing you can do to make it better if the towers aren't there.

Agree with all that, maybe you can get the phone as a Standard rate plan, which they don't offer with smart phones. You can then use it wifi all over the place. And when the merger hits, you might get better reception if they can share antenna....though some say the G2x will not work on any 3G ATT signals.
thanks for the responses
Yea ive been searching around seeing if there was a fix or noticable difference in rooted pre gb releases for better sig/data strength and such i even caled tmo when i got home and spoke with tech rep and he suggested that i just return devices and go to a diff network I felt that was a horrible way to represent the company. Didnt even try or make a feeble attempt to troubleshoot just blew it off to ah well you dont get 3g in your area so to bad basically.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the G2X only works on the 1700mhz 3G band. ATT does not use this band so he would be stuck on 2g, which is exactly the problem he's having with tmobs now.
well i should have gone further in to detail
The issue is in the store i was told that i would be in a 3g area once i got home i was only staring at the letter G on the highway i had 2G but at home now even outside I am at G and tech on the phone said i was in 2g area then proceeded to tell me i should look in to another company problem is ive tried verizon which is incredible service horrible support and sprint which had great customer service but horrid service I can travel to mount vernon and data roam.

Hmmm you might be right and i have to retract my statement cuz now ever since the phone was released it showed that it was quad band and had both bands for tmob and ATT for 2g/3g/4g bands and now LG says its not.
Even Tmobs site showed it had that capability. I'm reading into it now. Thanks for the refresh course.
No one suggested WiFi Calling? I use it at work and its awesome. Really cuts down on battery usage too. Plus WiFi Calling is now FREE on Tmobile so why WOULDN'T you want to use it at home or at work?
Beats paying AT&T for a $100 WiFi Extender and having it come out of your bank of minutes.
Plus WiFi Calling works over standard WiFi, so even at McDonalds it will work.
Of course this is under the assumption that there IS some coverage around your home. If there was NO service then I would probably just look elsewhere. If you can at least make calls in your neighborhood and calls, text, and surf the web at home (using WiFi Calling and WiFi) then that isn't so bad. Text messages work on any network grade. The only issue you'd have with a slower network is data. But if there is decent service "around" your house, then WiFi calling works wonders to make sure you are online around your home.
It would actually be kinda cool to reply on a WiFi router for service because at 10pm I could just pull the plug and cells go off. No kids texting at 2am.

No one really knows but Tmobile is releasing lots of "Quad-band" phones in the event the AT&T merger goes through. They've even stated they ONCE the merger goes through, they will unlock the other frequencies.
So while there is no absolute answer whether our phones are truely quad-band until we crack it open and actually test, it would be odd that it passed FCC, had it listed on the website, and touted as one of the biggest features... only to NOT have no such hardware.
Makes more sense that Tmobile just "locked it up" for now.

There really isn't much the csr over the phone can do. If you don't have service the person on the phone can't magically teleport a tower into your hood.
They offered you the chance to return the phone and get your money back. How else would you like them to proceed when they can't provide you with service?
Thanks all for the responses
Yea thats what ive been doing just got it set up to wifi in the house honestly out and about not that big an issue as i already have everything i need on the phone at that point unless its a game using data based connectivity which i can deal the phone in itself is just to nice for me to let go of and as for the last post honestly youve waited your breathe and I dont appreciate the rudeness really there is no magic tmo fairy to pop out of my ass and stick a new tower in my back yard gosh there goes that idea. but yea def love the phone testing out root lol i couldnt wait day 1 rooted and working on a good rom/kernel combo in the near future you can look forward to me buildling from aosp soon as this has been something i have been nearing for quite a while now just couldnt find a decent enough phone to dev on so be on the look out for the Triumph Rom coming soon to your neck of the woods.
I was rude? I thought I was just being logical and asked what you would have done if you were the csr.
I'm glad you are at least trying the phone out via wifi, 99% of the people here would have ditched it.
well if i mistook you i apologize
But i def would not recommend someone leave my business for another without prior checking thoroughly to see what other options there may be this guy spent 5 minutes on the phone with me he was in tech support and did no do any literally anything to troubleshoot why i was listed in a 2g area but only getting 1g was my big issue but honestly ill take this over sprint any day i cannot leave the house 5 minutes in any direction without data roaming so just pushed over dark and sin with faux kernel going to set it up and test drive I will be working up some gb roms once official release is out which from the reads i have found is only sometime soon. heres to hoping.

I have experienced random signal drops, even when I have full bars. It might only happen when it's switching between LTE/HSPA, but I haven't really payed attention.
Sprint is doing a lot of backend tweaking to support the Nexus 5s. Lots of performance changes hour by hour as they try and set up the network to allow unlocked Nexus phones.
First time allowing a phone on their network that's not sold them so these are all part of the growing pains. Just keep giving Sprint productive feedback so they can iron out the issues.
I went to the online chat and the guy apparently "refreshed the network and fixed the glitch." I thought he was full of ****, but I haven't lost bars yet ^.^

I have been having the same problem at work and I can trace it to switching between network types. LTE to 3G to 1x. At home I'm good to go. I think it may be because Sprint installed a micro cell in our building and it's not LTE compatible.

Might just be a not so great radio software/firmware at the moment. Most likely future updates will make it better. Now, that doesn't help you in the interim but that's most likely it.
my worst fear.. LG's are notorious for dropping signal. I know this because my old LG Optimus G did it, and many others had this problem as well. You can google or look at my old posts.
I ran a Network Signal Pro log last night and it was a constant signal/no signal. Not sure if it was just voice or voice and date. I have attached it, if someone who knows how to read that better than me could look at it that would be great. I'm running another log right now, will be 60 minutes with a 30 poling rate. I'll post that later. The signal is pretty weak since I am in a hangar at an airport. So we will see how it is.

I thought it was a bad sim/the fact that sprint doesn't even recognize the device. I plan on waiting until the 8th to take any action personally.

Why should any "tweaking' be required? GSM networks have let on all phones for years. It would seem that once Sprint allows a phone on the network, it should be in the same position as a GSM network with respect to phones that it did not sell.
Also OP, do you mind providing your general location?
Here is the next log. Never lost a connection.
The only difference I see here is EVDO A at work vs EHRPD at home. Wonder if that is part of the issue?

Ah - other side of the country. Didn't see you had it in your profile as well, my bad.
Other side of the country which makes me nervous that it's not a sprint issue - I'm in Detroit near campus martius and still having similar issues.
it isn't only Sprint, it happens in Rogers and Fido in Canada as well. So I believe it is LG

I feel it may be a sprint issue only due to it constantly losing connection of EHRPD but it being fine now that I on on EVDO A at work. It is the same radio and antenna for EHRPD and EVDO A, right?
I'm going to Salt Lake City this weekend, I'll have to see how it preforms there.
I've been with ATT for a tear bow. I had the S4 before this G3. On my S4 I would have LTE most places around my town. Since getting my G3 I rarely get LTE. When I do get LTE it doesn't hold on to that connection very long.
Yesterday I was trying to look something up and I was on Edge (3g) and it was taking forever, so I grabbed my wife's S5 and it was on LTE (also on ATT) and the internet worked great.
Are the radios in this phone just that bad? I'm going to get a new Sim card today to see if that can fix the issue, I'm hesitant to return the phone for another because I'll probably get a refurb and my luck with refurb cell phones hasn't been good

I've had my phone for a little over a month now and it's been running great until a few days ago when I noticed the reception was really low in places that I normally get full bars. Not sure what the issues is.
Hmm... This could be a deal breaker if it keeps up
I feel like I'm back on sprint again

So is there anything I can do on my end to fix the issue?
so i got a new sim card, lets see how this goes
I have bad reception at home but can still get 12mb down on LTE. Downtown I get 35 down and 17 up with 4 bars. Signal can't penetrate the brick at home. I drop calls constantly. I'm about to pick up a microcell but data is great.
Much better than Sprint in my area. My Sprint GS5 radio is real garbage. Kills the battery too. The Sprint variant of the GS5 is horrible with Spark.
You may have a lemon radio in your phone.
I'm wondering that, I'd hate to get a refurb and fine out it performs the same

I got a new sim yesterday also. not looking like it's making much of a difference. I can't get full bars unless i'm out on the street. I used to get full bars in my office, relatively close to a window.
Don't really want to trade this if for a refurb to have the same thing.
Is the antenna on the back of the battery case? or is that just a 'booster'?

I've had the AT&T G3 since July 18th with no problems. My old G-note would not pick up LTE in my office at work but I get LTE with this phone. No dropped calls and super fast data. I live in northern VA outside DC so LTE is really good here.
I just realized I'm being throttled... May data has sucked last few days also lol... I'm at crawling speeds

as far as bars go mine seems just about right, but it does lose service a bit more than my S4 did. sometimes my wife and i will both have 3 or 4 bars and she will have LTE and i will be on EDGE or 4G
Absolutely love the device as a smartphone, but unfortunately suffer from the same issues as the rest of you here.
Loses signal where other ATT devices do not, drops LTE for HSPA or EDGE where other devices stay on LTE.
Really hoping the crappy radio can be fixed with a firmware update, and that it isn't a hardware design flaw...

Not sure what if anything changed, possibly something with the network but now I get full bars at my desk, where yesterday I wasn't. I know this isn't very scientific but now I get full bars in the same seat where for the last week I've been down 1 or 2. I didn't think to run a speedtest before but it looks good now, 18.4 down and 10 up.

I'm holding out for an OTA to see if it gets any better before I bite the bbullet and get a refurb

I also forgot to mention that when I had my Sim swapped out that ISIS (Did they change the name because now it says ' Soft Card') doesn't work. When I launch the Soft Card (Isis) app it says that i need an enhanced SIM. So it looks like I have to go back to AT&T to get yet another SIM.

Of another G3? I wouldn't waste time doing that. Sounds like they're all the same radio-wise.
Waiting on an OTA too... but if nothing comes, I will jump ship to another device altogether. One with a competent radio.

I want to root and try to change this in the build prop.
Permanent LTE Option
# default value is 9
ro.telephony.default_network=12
Part of me thinks it will help
I believe this makes the phone hang onto an LTE connection as long as possible
Hello all,
I love being able to go on a forum again... I have been rocking an iPhone for the past year. Anyway, I just put my sim card yesterday. Unplugged this morning at 6:30AM., already down to 41%... I uninstalled most of everything. This is an E6653 Unlocked from Handtec.
Do I have to do anything special to make this work better with ATT. It's working, but the signal has not gone past 4G. I know for a fact that there is great LTE right from where Iam typing this. But blah. Do I need to call ATT and tell them I'm no longer using an iPhone?
The battery I'm guessing it's just settling. It was warm this morning, maybe some enrant thing from booting up yesterday. After a recycle today, it seems fine.
'4G' icon means 'LTE' though (on international models). Check this one out -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62587394&postcount=83
But your speed could still be throttled. ATT used to have 'different' LTE plans for iphones (they still do - I think). So people had to call ATT to put them on android LTE plan. Then ATT used to ask them to provide 'ATT branded' android phone's IMEI to activate the plan. It was a PITA & happened only when people were switching from iphone to android & vice versa (android to android has always been fine on ATT)
I just called ATT., and redid the APN's for ATT. Just to be safe. Still says 4G., it's my understanding that it should say H+ or something along those lines. But what you sent says it means mid ground. With the 4G, I'm getting 11Mbps Down, 5Mbps Up...

Did you reboot after ATT has changed your plan? 4G & LTE icons are mutually exclusive on Sony phones (country dependent) & they both represent 'LTE' in the US. So yes, yours should say H+ according to the speed, which can also vary wildly even on LTE. Check out the screenshot - all three were done on LTE. Interestingly, the second one was the slowest one when I added 'hipri' to 'APN type'. You don't have that, do you?

I've got the E6653 on AT&T and it only shows 4G as well. As schecter7 stated, 4G is LTE on Sony international firmware. You are correct about battery as well, it does settle down after several cycles.
So., phone finally died. At 2:44PM when I unplugged it at 6:30AM. That is shameful. Hopefully it was just the first run... I did nothing intensive, no videos, no anything. Ran waze for 15-20 minutes during morning commute. It died half way through my walk this afternoon using RunKeeper.

Yep, while I was sitting at the same spot & watching movies! Talk about the nation's most reliable LTE network lol But I live downtown & my ATT line is consistently faster than my other Tmob line. So I can't complain.
Also someone mentioned adding 'hipri' [=high priority] to 'APN Type' speeds up things. But it did exactly the opposite thing (second ~2mpbs reading) lol So that case was an outlier. But I do see 10-50 mbps range daily.

That is wild, thanks for the clarification. Also, based on your advice, I am going to remove hipri from my APN as well. I entered mine manually after I could not get LTE at all even though it was present. I found out AT&T downgraded my account to 3G only after using a Xiaomi device for a few months. I had to call and give them an LTE IMEI to get it switched back. Of course, I used an IMEI from a LTE AT&T device I have in my closet as the Z5 one was showing up as an old Sony P900 on the website under my account.

4G is LTE on a US network. If you had a US, Canada or Mexico firmware, then it would show up as LTE. Once one of these stock firmwares get released from Sony, then you can flash it and it'll show LTE.
As for your battery, let it recycle a couple of times and if it's still a problem, you can always reset the phone.

I liked it.. and gave it a whopping two days.... I just can't get used to Android again. Plus, while I was all giddy about getting it, and finally getting everything perfect. My entire house is all iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. I have turned into the ultimate iSheep, if this amazing phone could not pull me back. Not sure what would.
It's on eBay and CG locally. Should sell, if not, the RMA is already set with Handtec will just ship back on Monday.

Definitely understand. I don't knock Apple because I've never tried it. Nice having you around, for a few days anyway Enjoy the weekend.
Why not go to Settings -> About Phone -> Status to check what kind of signal you are getting? It should correctly tell you whether you are on LTE regardless what you see on notification bar.

Factory resetting doesn't do anything, of the firmware is somehow corrupted you would be installing the same thing over and over. Yes it will reset caches but that can be done much faster and simpler.
I know first hand about the firmware problems, I'm on my 4th Z5 now previous ones had horrible battery life. This one is alright but not fantastic. Especially compare to my old Z3.
I would like to add..I am using Att and have the lte apn set-up.
It actually says LTE

Joosty, any issues using it on ATT so far? How is battery life for you?
It's going quite well. Reception is great. Nothing out of the normal.
I managed 2 hours screen time with 50% battery left.
I'd say the battery should last you a day with heavy use.

I just received my Xperia Z5 E6653 from Clove UK.
I got my nano sim from AT&T and they set it up to use the Z5 IMEI and it would only show 4G at the top of the screen.
We fiddled around with it in the store and were unable to get LTE working so we set the IMEI back to my Galaxy S5. Still no 4G LTE.
I am using the standard AT&T LTE APN.
Please help
