Signal reception - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Anyone compare their reception on CDMA 1x/3g to their Nexus 6p? Better or worse? I live in Maine and LTE is not always available where I travel. Looking to see if it would be better then my 6p which does poorly in the fringes compared to my company issued s5. I am currently on verizon.

Mine is pretty good, but not as good as my S5 or my S7. But those were really good preformers from my experience.

Galaxy S III vs the Droid RAZR MAXX (only reception matters)

Alright so I'm purchasing a device for my uncle. If I was purchasing it for myself, the answer would be simple if it were for myself (Motorola can go **** itself after the way they treated my Bionic and my Droid 3) but he lives in the middle of no where and I mean the middle of no where. They only offer dial-up at his house and basically this phone is his only connection to the world and I'm certainly worried about radios and reception. I know that it all depends on the area overall but I'm hoping to get a general consensus of what will receive better reception.
I know that Motorola locks down their phones and I know that they are known for good reception but in my experience, a open phone means a better experience all-around but this really isn't a trade-off situation. I need a phone that will receive 3G, he'll never receive 4 bars or anything like that but even 1 or 2 would be a much needed improvement.
If any of you guys live out in the boonies or anything like that, please let me know what your experience is. Here is a somewhat general area of where he lives. Just look at the map and you'll see what I mean.

people complain about the reception. ive never had issues with it though. in fact i was with my brother in a poor service area over the holiday and i had slightly better reception with my GS3 versus his droid razer (not max or HD)
Reception is pretty good from my experience playing with the modems, but I would say go with a Motorola or hTc for reception reasons.

You have 14 days, buy the s3 and see if our works, if not, take it back.

If reception only criterion, Droid Maxx hands down

Signal strength on this phone is absolutely terrible. I don't think I've ever seen my GS3 go under -100dBM. My Rezound constantly hovered around the 55-60 range. Everything else is perfect, but if signal strength is the only criteria I wouldn't recommend a Samsung phone.
For what it is worth, I have a SG3 running the latest jb leak and my wife has a stock razr maxx. Our signal is the same wherever we go. My Rezound did have slightly better signal than both of these but not by much. Hope this helps.
I live in Kansas and as much as Motorola pisses me off they have much better reception out in the sticks.
Definitely go with an HTC phone if you want the best reception, HTC has always been on top in that department from my experience.

I have seen just as many folks complain about signal issues with htc...moto is definately known for its radio quality. However I have yet to run into anybody with a device that gets substantially better signal than my s3. I have compared my device on the edge of 4g coverage against 3 razr's...they were all within -5db signal of eachother. The thing with samsung is your mileage will vary...some devices get grea signal others not so great. As previously mentioned, get the s3, if reception is bad simply return it within 14days.

I've personally had the best luck with HTC phones in the signal department.
Samsung is kind of known for weak signal compared to other phones.
Motorola, to me, is irrelevant. So I won't comment on that.

RAZR maxx is far far better in terms of reception and maintaining signal strength . The S3 really lacks in this department .
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I love my sg3, but for reliability of signal outside of major coverage areas, it'd be maxx hands down. I can't even make phone calls in my house, where I could perfectly with my Rezound and the gf's Razr. So especially if your uncle doesn't care about rooting and roming, get him the maxx.

My wife has a MAXX, I have the GS3. Side by side we have nearly identical signal. Within a couple dBm. We live in the boonies also. Check the coverage map on the Verizon website. Its pretty accurate once you zoom in. I am VERY fortunate to have VERY strong 4G at our house. Definitely check the map that will let you about type and strength of signal in general. And I said said about the phone they are nearly identical.

Are the radios better then the nexus 4?

Are the radios better then the nexus 4. My service was alwaysnup and down with the N4, and wouldn't have service places I used to. Hope they didn't go cheap on this end. It is still a phone.

Don't have mine yet, but have a feeling it will be better!
Well that's the thing about radios sometime it may work better for someone else and sometimes it doesn't

To answer my own question, the Nexus 5 is getting way better service than my Nexus 4. On wifi and on tmobile
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I actually had worse cellular radio performance out of my Nexus 5 compared to my Nexus 4 while using it yesterday. Inside my office, I'm pretty sure I was averaging fewer bars, and the N5 couldn't decide if it was going to connect to 2G, HSPA+, or LTE. Outside, it flipped between HSPA+ and LTE as I moved around (mostly driving, but a few times even walking around a parking lot).
So, I'm not sure if it's my particular N5, or N5s in general, but so far I'm not impressed with its cellular performance relative to my N4.
I'm getting better performance so far, which I'm glad about as I also had a pretty bad time with the Nexus 4 over other phones. The 5 isn't amazing, but it's alright and acceptable to me.
I'm getting generally worse reception, especially inside at work. Before with my N4 I got perfectly acceptable reception where I sat. Now with the N5 I literally get nothing.. nothing at all. It won't even give me a smidgen of reception. I have to walk towards the front of our building to get anything.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
*edit*
So in a completely random way I turned data roaming on and off just for ****s and giggles and within 5 seconds of turning it off I all of a sudden had a full HSPA signal. ????? It appears to work flawlessly now.
My signal on the n4 jumped all over the place. It holds still full and I don't lose service now in a town I drive through. I get WiFi outside my house that can stream video when my n4 couldn't at all.

Overall, this seems to be the case for me as well. And I'm comparing for reception underground (basement level) where I work.
It's better then the Nexus 4, but I'm using it on CDMA and it's CDMA reception is less then the HTC EVO 4G by 1 bar.

M8 service/gps problems?

Hello everyone. I'm currently on the vzw note three. Pretty nice device but the cell reception is atrocious and gps is as bad if not worse. I'm thinking of jumping ship to the M8. My question is, does the M8 seem to have any issues with reception or gps? Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Still worth it?

Hi folks I am considering buying a nexus 5. Currently have a moto X and I'm happy with it. However I missed the stock Android and Nexus experience. They're all kinds of pros and cons with this phone as you all know. I guess after all this time, do you think the phone is still worth purchasing? Main reason being is the next Nexus is a matter of months away. What would you owners say? Thanks.

battery isnt bad. but it all depends what your signal quality will be like, how you set it up, what apps youbuse, and how you use your device. i personally see about 4.5-5.5 hours screen in time.
i just used my tmobile Jump upgrade to go from an LG G2 to the Nexus 5, best decision ive made in awhile

As Midnight_Rider Put It... In A Matter Of 6 Months... I Just Used My Jump Upgrade and Went From A HTC One M7 > Note 3 > iPhone 5s Gold (Worst Decision I Ever Made In The Handset Division... The IPad Is Cool But Not The Phone) and Now I Have The Nexus 5...
As Stated Before... Best Decision I Ever Made In The Mobile World In A While. I've Had the Nexus One & the Galaxy Nexus... Minus the Nexus S As I Wasn't On Sucky Sprint But Now That I Have the Nexus 5... I Can Clearly Admit That I'm Thrilled To Be Back To Pure Google, Unlocked, Unrestricted and On the Un-Carrier and the Nexus World.
I Said the Same Thing... As the Next Nexus Is Due By December and The G3 Is Right Around the Corner But Seriously... Its A No Brainer... I Wish the Best To You Young Padawon On Your Choices... Choose Wisely lol ?

Xperia Z5 seems to be a really good option and seems to beat N5X in almost every department.
But if I were you I would still go for N5X. The UI fluidity and development offered on Nexus lineup is unbeatable.
Also for a poweruser the revised 810 chipset might suffer heating issues but 808 chipset has absolutely no complaints yet.

See... I love the spec of the Z5 but there's a lot of bad reviews about for its camera, which is supposed to be one of its main features! I don't play games on my phone so heat would never be an issue regardless.
But the 5X doesn't really seem much of an upgrade from the 5 from what I'm seeing. But i do love my Nexus 5 on how fast it always is

I totally agree with 5X not seeming to be that huge an upgrade. But if Z5 suffers from bad camera then that defies the primary reason to switch to Xperia. So why not consider a different option altogether OnePlus Two?
(IMHO I wouldn't switch to OP2 but it's a good phone from what I hear)
I would keep N5 till thanksgiving or later till I get a good deal on N6P. Hopefully by that time N6P reviews would shed light on how its metal body holds up with the 810.

It does, however, first batch of production suffers from a manufacturing flaw whereby the left edge of photos is blurred out compared to the right edge. Once this is corrected, it will be a fantastic camera. I'm really hoping my second Z5C doesn't have the camera issue, just sent my first one back for an exchange.

Yes. Both. There are reports from users on these forums with the regular Z5 with the problem.
I wouldn't want the OP2 cus it's poo cm based
Think it's worth waiting for a newer version of the Z5? Think they'll make one or it'll just be software update?

I'm sure it'll be fixed, it's just a question of how long. It's worth noting that not everyone's Z5s have the issue, it's not affecting all units, just some of them (it's a lottery currently).
It's like there's currently no phones out there worth actually upgrading to. Seems to be more and more bad reviews on the Z5 which is such a shame
