This is gonna be thunderbolt #4 im recieving tomorrow. Im losing faith in them and will be picking up a droid charge when it drops.

GPS issues have nothing to do with the network, it's one way communication from GPS satellite to phone...It's a pretty widespread Thunderbolt issue though. The only problem I've had with it is an excessively long GPS lock time.
I think the TB is a great device, but the GPS issues are most likely HTC's fault, antenna design issue.

True, but if he has location check marked to use VZW then that would be the issue affecting the GPS.

I guess I am not sure what GPS issue you are referring to. If a user goes into maps or navigation with GPS enabled, it is purely searching for a GPS lock via satellite signals, whether the VZW box is checked or not. Verizon's network location, and a GPS lock are completely separate and unrelated.
The fact that the GPS status and toolbox fixes these issues is more proof of that.

Good luck with that man... I work at VZW store and we have several Charges here and I can in all honesty say that it is a giant piece of ****. It's a fascinate with a bigger screen and that's it. Still has RFS which is crap and the phone lags like molasses uphill on a cold winter day.
I personally would sooner get stuck with a phone that I have to replace a couple of times to get a decent one then get stuck with a "perfect" one of those for two years.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck though, how did you happen to go through so many TBolts?

Interesting opinion on the Charge...I know that personally I feel the phone just looks ridiculous, with the pointy bottom. And it's expensive. Might as well wait until a decent dual core device comes out.

Look at above post.
By poorly refurbed i mean the power button is sunk in. I have to press it hard. The bottom has scratches and so does the screen. It had loose screws i personally tightened up and a battery pin was bent. Like new my ass. I complained my ass off with verizon and they sent me a newone. I told them if its refurbed i don't want it. and I would be canceling Verizon due to its crappy network. I had t Mobile for five years not a single dropped call

Hello everyone! This is a question about GPS on the device, however I didn't see too many comparisons from previous Inspire 4G owners which is what I'm mostly interested in. However I invite anyone to join in this topic.
I currently have an Inspire 4G running CM 7.1 and have been debating on getting the Skyrocket.
Last week I went to Wal-Mart and upgraded to the OGSGSII, but took it back because the GPS wasn't working as well as my Inspire was. I had the Captivate before the Inspire and as most of you know the GPS was terrible and I didn't want to go back to that. I rely on GPS too much since I travel for work. Not to mention my new work phone is a OGSGSII that I just got yesterday and I didn't want to have two of the same device. The GPS on my work OGSGSII is functioning about the same as the one I took back from Wal-Mart.
So for those of you that have the Skyrocket, did any of you come from the Inspire? How's the GPS functionality on the Skyrocket compared to Inspire? For those of you not coming from the Inspire, please tell me your opinions too.
Thanks!!
Our inspire had horrible GPS
As a matter of fact we just returned from a 3 week road trip where we compared the 2 and we were soooo glad I had the skyrocket.
GPS can be hit or miss on Samsung devices but when it is a miss it is easy to fix

I had the HD2 and the Inspire. The Skyrocket has a better GPS than both. Hardware wise, my Skyrocket is better than my Garmin 3790! Now, if we could only get Garmin software on Android.
I'm not real happy with any of the GPS apps for Android.
Google maps is OK if you already know where you're going. It misses by a couple of blocks sometimes. The maps are accurate, the addresses for POIs are not. Also, Google Maps is not reliable at choosing the best, or even a reasonable route. No real POI import. Only useful with a data source. Caching works OK, NOT. Excellent worldwide map availibility, IF you have a data connection.
Co-Pilot's maps are only OK at Best. The text to voice sometimes says turn left when it really means right. POI import is a struggle at best. Limited worldwide map availibility.
Sygic is not too bad. POIs must use the same database as Google, because when it's wrong in Google, it's wrong in Sygic. The Vehicle Icon is WAY too big; Sygic says that will be fixed soon. POI import from Mapsource is doable. Good worldwide map availability.
Overall: 1 to 10
Garmin 3790
. Software: 9
. Hardware: 8
Skyrocket GPS hardware: 9
. Google Maps Software: 6.5
. Co Pilot Software: 6
. Sygic Software: 7.5

I get great gps compared to my inspire. I cabn get 10 or 15 satellite's while sitting inside, never could do that with inspire. Also the wifi is pretty good and connects to my wifi at home almost instantly while my inspire didnt. I do however still love my inspire, it was a great first android device for me. I agree with what others here are saying, the GPS is outstanding. Of course, I came from a Captivate so navigating by star chart would be better than that thing. I do not have the screen issues that other post about, but i have seen the pictures and it appears some phones do have serious screen issues. I am still amazed at the LTE speeds, cant go back to HSPA+ ... Good luck.
I get faster gps lock inside my house with my skyrocket than i did outside with my inspire. Everything on the skyrocket is smoother and faster than the inspire
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
I can vouch for the GPS too. I came from the Captivate (had to get a bluetooth GPS receiver dongle for that POS because I travel on business frequently to cities I've not been to before).
Skyrocket got it right. Locks in seconds and tracks spot on. I haven't been to an urban area like NYC or San Francisco yet so no idea how well it works in those canyons.
^^^+1...came from Captivate, I use the GPS on my Skyrocket daily and am constantly in awe of how spot on it is.

That's due to the bloatware they put on it. Rooting fixes that though.

No disrespect--just curious
Why would you be "new to the One S" and now asking if you should get something else and wondering about issues. If you mean you don't have it yet then there are many threads and posts on the forum already. And as far as I can say, it is perfect if you are OK with no SD Card and 9.3gb available internal memory--I am. Some complain on Multitasking--I have no issues. Although, all that is individual needs and opinions--and is covered extensively in various threads--
Highly recommend starting to read the General and Q&A sections for a wealth of info--
Whatever your currrent status is with the phone--enjoy it if you got it--and you will enjoy it, if you buy it--
Ken
I love the phone only thing I've noticed is multitasking, and signal. With regards to multitasking what happens is let's say you're web browsing or playing a game whatever then you do something else like check xda app. When you go back a lot of times instead of those apps continuing where they left off from it has to start up back again. It actually does it for xda app also. With the signal cell tower signal I just get a lot of fluctuations between bars dropping and coming back.

I flashed Trickdroid and Axiom S and wifi calling still not usable. I have turrible reception in parts of my house.
I wonder if the crappy wifi calling quality has its root in an buggy radio, if another ROM is also suffering from it? Anyhow, that is really the only "defect" I can find with this model. Otherwise, it's good! I wish it would have a removable SD card, but I recall reading somewhere in the forums that it is possible to mount external drives and such on this phone, but you need a USB Y cable (since the phone can't power the external device), or at least that's what I remember. One might also need a ROM to use the phone as a USB host. The possibility to do this makes me a little less upset over having just 16 GB of memory (or on TMob US only 10GB because of all the junk it comes with).
GS3 FTW!
Earlier today I received a notification that said I needed to get a newer sim for WiFi calling. I'll stop by the T-Mobile store tomorrow(today).

I am considering buying this phone over the S3 (I mainly like the look and feel of the OX over the S3 plastic-y, cheap, feel). I am hesitant to purchase one because I know about the wifi problem and am not sure whether the issue has really been fixed, I just know HTC acknowledged it.
Has anyone heard any updates on this?
Thanks.

Yes, the issue with the casing of the phone flexing, and this affecting the antenna clips and WiFi reception, was only present for the international (Tegra) version. This AT&T (Snapdragon S4) version is not designed this way.
Some people have had signal issues with WiFi on the AT&T version, but they seemed improved after the 1.85 firmware update. I've never had any real issues with WiFi.

Same no issues
From beast called HTC One X
owned since a day or two before it was up for public sale, no wifi issues here. i once had some issues that i thought were due to wifi, but weren't. regardless, minor in hindsight and overall this phone has been exceptional. i highly recommend.
I use WiFi at work and at home daily with no problems. Also never had any problems with WiFi networks at any of my friends' houses.
You always have the 30 day return policy, too.
mine is international tegra 3 version and I have this wifi issue.
when comparing to another phone side by side, my HOX can only pickup 2 signals compare to another phone which is more than 5.
by comparing the signal strength of the 2 wifi signals only with the other phone, the -dBm is still higher in HOX.
One magical press on between the power ON button and the volume button, the signal strength improves.
So, this is really the design problem.
Until now, HTC still saying there is no fix on this yet after reported to them. :crying:
getting more and more frus everyday

To answer my own question, the Nexus 5 is getting way better service than my Nexus 4. On wifi and on tmobile
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I actually had worse cellular radio performance out of my Nexus 5 compared to my Nexus 4 while using it yesterday. Inside my office, I'm pretty sure I was averaging fewer bars, and the N5 couldn't decide if it was going to connect to 2G, HSPA+, or LTE. Outside, it flipped between HSPA+ and LTE as I moved around (mostly driving, but a few times even walking around a parking lot).
So, I'm not sure if it's my particular N5, or N5s in general, but so far I'm not impressed with its cellular performance relative to my N4.
I'm getting better performance so far, which I'm glad about as I also had a pretty bad time with the Nexus 4 over other phones. The 5 isn't amazing, but it's alright and acceptable to me.
I'm getting generally worse reception, especially inside at work. Before with my N4 I got perfectly acceptable reception where I sat. Now with the N5 I literally get nothing.. nothing at all. It won't even give me a smidgen of reception. I have to walk towards the front of our building to get anything.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
*edit*
So in a completely random way I turned data roaming on and off just for ****s and giggles and within 5 seconds of turning it off I all of a sudden had a full HSPA signal. ????? It appears to work flawlessly now.
My signal on the n4 jumped all over the place. It holds still full and I don't lose service now in a town I drive through. I get WiFi outside my house that can stream video when my n4 couldn't at all.

Overall, this seems to be the case for me as well. And I'm comparing for reception underground (basement level) where I work.
It's better then the Nexus 4, but I'm using it on CDMA and it's CDMA reception is less then the HTC EVO 4G by 1 bar.
