Hi all,
I am considering buying this phone over the S3 (I mainly like the look and feel of the OX over the S3 plastic-y, cheap, feel). I am hesitant to purchase one because I know about the wifi problem and am not sure whether the issue has really been fixed, I just know HTC acknowledged it.
Has anyone heard any updates on this?
Thanks.
Honestly I have never had a wifi problem. I think it was on the early software version.1.73. I'm not positive though cause I've never had a problem

Yes, the issue with the casing of the phone flexing, and this affecting the antenna clips and WiFi reception, was only present for the international (Tegra) version. This AT&T (Snapdragon S4) version is not designed this way.
Some people have had signal issues with WiFi on the AT&T version, but they seemed improved after the 1.85 firmware update. I've never had any real issues with WiFi.

Yes the issue exists but barely noticeable. Not sure about the updates from HTC but this issue is definitely not that frustrating atleast to me.
No wifi issues here. It's solid.

Same no issues
From beast called HTC One X
owned since a day or two before it was up for public sale, no wifi issues here. i once had some issues that i thought were due to wifi, but weren't. regardless, minor in hindsight and overall this phone has been exceptional. i highly recommend.
I use WiFi at work and at home daily with no problems. Also never had any problems with WiFi networks at any of my friends' houses.
You always have the 30 day return policy, too.
mine is international tegra 3 version and I have this wifi issue.
when comparing to another phone side by side, my HOX can only pickup 2 signals compare to another phone which is more than 5.
by comparing the signal strength of the 2 wifi signals only with the other phone, the -dBm is still higher in HOX.
One magical press on between the power ON button and the volume button, the signal strength improves.
So, this is really the design problem.
Until now, HTC still saying there is no fix on this yet after reported to them. :crying:
getting more and more frus everyday
You are in the wrong forums buddy ;D

On some tests i see that Tmobile One S has inferior battery life than the international one.
That's due to the bloatware they put on it. Rooting fixes that though.

No disrespect--just curious
Why would you be "new to the One S" and now asking if you should get something else and wondering about issues. If you mean you don't have it yet then there are many threads and posts on the forum already. And as far as I can say, it is perfect if you are OK with no SD Card and 9.3gb available internal memory--I am. Some complain on Multitasking--I have no issues. Although, all that is individual needs and opinions--and is covered extensively in various threads--
Highly recommend starting to read the General and Q&A sections for a wealth of info--
Whatever your currrent status is with the phone--enjoy it if you got it--and you will enjoy it, if you buy it--
Ken
I love the phone only thing I've noticed is multitasking, and signal. With regards to multitasking what happens is let's say you're web browsing or playing a game whatever then you do something else like check xda app. When you go back a lot of times instead of those apps continuing where they left off from it has to start up back again. It actually does it for xda app also. With the signal cell tower signal I just get a lot of fluctuations between bars dropping and coming back.

I flashed Trickdroid and Axiom S and wifi calling still not usable. I have turrible reception in parts of my house.
I wonder if the crappy wifi calling quality has its root in an buggy radio, if another ROM is also suffering from it? Anyhow, that is really the only "defect" I can find with this model. Otherwise, it's good! I wish it would have a removable SD card, but I recall reading somewhere in the forums that it is possible to mount external drives and such on this phone, but you need a USB Y cable (since the phone can't power the external device), or at least that's what I remember. One might also need a ROM to use the phone as a USB host. The possibility to do this makes me a little less upset over having just 16 GB of memory (or on TMob US only 10GB because of all the junk it comes with).
GS3 FTW!
Earlier today I received a notification that said I needed to get a newer sim for WiFi calling. I'll stop by the T-Mobile store tomorrow(today).

Thinking about buying a T-Mobile One S to use on StraightTalk prepaid. Are there any known issues with the T-Mobile version of the One S? The AT&T One X had serious wifi issues, and a number of people experienced issues with push email syncing slowly, etc. Does the One S suffer from the same problems?
No issues I can think of, and I've owned 4-5 One S's.

my phone tends to reboot at times and its annoying, the phone sometimes lags, my battery seems to be draining more than every, could be a app issue that stays on, take note that the battery is internal now and no access to it.

One X received their jellybean update today, maybe T-Mobile's is not far behind ?!?!
What does the One X have anything to do with One S? They are different devices with different hardware, on different (although merged) carriers.
actually theres not much difference in the hardware or software. The point I was trying to make was that so far the U.S, carriers were the last to release it.......so maybe T-mobile maybe releasing it soon, thats all
doubt it

it allows you to make calls over a wifi connection. It's only useful for people that have a bad signal. It's not free and still uses up minutes from your account and it drains the battery.
And yes you can turn it off but the only way to uninstall it is through rooting .

Someone is pretty uninformed, it is "free" you can call t-mobile to add wifi-calling to your plan and it wont use any of your minutes. It also doesn't drain the battery more.

WiFi calling is already included in the plan. It all depends on if your phone comes with it preinstalled.
And it does use your minutes and having WiFi on does drain the battery faster than having just a mobile connection. Sheesh.

We have a JB sticky, for the one s.
I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

So because you didn't have any issues that means the thousands of other phones out there never had any? Yes that's intelligent logic.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.

Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to
