Still worth it? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks I am considering buying a nexus 5. Currently have a moto X and I'm happy with it. However I missed the stock Android and Nexus experience. They're all kinds of pros and cons with this phone as you all know. I guess after all this time, do you think the phone is still worth purchasing? Main reason being is the next Nexus is a matter of months away. What would you owners say? Thanks.

The battery is fine. You can consistently get 5+ hours of sot if you set it up right.

battery isnt bad. but it all depends what your signal quality will be like, how you set it up, what apps youbuse, and how you use your device. i personally see about 4.5-5.5 hours screen in time.

i just used my tmobile Jump upgrade to go from an LG G2 to the Nexus 5, best decision ive made in awhile

As Midnight_Rider Put It... In A Matter Of 6 Months... I Just Used My Jump Upgrade and Went From A HTC One M7 > Note 3 > iPhone 5s Gold (Worst Decision I Ever Made In The Handset Division... The IPad Is Cool But Not The Phone) and Now I Have The Nexus 5...
As Stated Before... Best Decision I Ever Made In The Mobile World In A While. I've Had the Nexus One & the Galaxy Nexus... Minus the Nexus S As I Wasn't On Sucky Sprint But Now That I Have the Nexus 5... I Can Clearly Admit That I'm Thrilled To Be Back To Pure Google, Unlocked, Unrestricted and On the Un-Carrier and the Nexus World.
I Said the Same Thing... As the Next Nexus Is Due By December and The G3 Is Right Around the Corner But Seriously... Its A No Brainer... I Wish the Best To You Young Padawon On Your Choices... Choose Wisely lol ?

Say what you will about the SG3 radio... But I have never dropped a call or had a 4G outage since I purchased it on launch day. My Nexus however was a completely different story. The Nexus will give you a new rom to play with every night, but the GS3 will give you fewer headaches in the signal and battery departments.

Good bye HTC Rezound, hello Galaxy S3!
Even if the bootloader dont get unlocked, ill be happy using the kexec method...other than the extra 30 seconds boot time, I see no difference. Also our current flashig methods dont trip the flash counter since were Not flashing non-stock firmware in odin!

I had an Epic Touch (on Sprint) and went to a Galaxy Nexus (on Verizon) then a S3 and IMO it's a huge upgrade. I absolutely love this phone and wouldn't even consider going back to a GNex. The only thing I don't like is the physical home button but a stable AOKP will resolve that. As for the locked boot loader I was a little concerned too but with Kexec it's irrelevant. They already have CM9/CM10/AOKP running on this phone. I'd rather just use Kexec knowing I can return to stock then void warranty with a bootloader unlock. JMO!
Both are great phones, I have the GS3 and my old man has the Nexus. Touchwiz isn't too bad if you get use to it.

LG G2 or Nexus 5

Why should i wait for the Nexus 5 when the G2 is out and has the same or better specs. I'm just getting tired of waiting i want a new phone this phone (as great as is it) was almost a mistake to get.

As much as that would be a great reason since I have to wait for TELUS to get it anyways cause I can't afford to by it out it does not help me make a choice in this case other then it should still be cheaper.

It was a tough choice, but since the rumor that the N5 is getting a 3000MAh battery was getting debunked, I decided to go with the G2 a few days ago. I might get the N5 as a backup phone if it's announcement impresses me.
If I were to choose a N5 over the G2, it be for the pure google experience, even if i'd say LG's skin is decent.
The lg g2 got the WORST review of any android flagship phone.
It has been discovered that it has carrierID (evil).
We might (my speculation) see a Google edition g2 in the future, I'd get that over a n5 or a regular g2

Definitely N5 for me...Cheaper, decent specs and...Google exprience !
A Nexus device is better than skinned one, gonna get it as soon as I can and sell my Note 3.

Well I'm in the same situation as OP, my family is just got off contract with Sprint and we going prepaid trail. So i was sold on G2 before i heard that Nexus 5 is about to get released. So i decided to patiently wait for N5.
Why would i wait? Because I want to always have latest Android os as soon as it released. Because price is cheaper.

Knox is tripped by flashing a Rom or recovery. When u go back to stock the knox is still tripped and u can't change it back to normal. Samsung uses this as an excuse to void ur warranty.
It's some bs that makes me disappointed with Samsung because I wanted the phone for a while but if I can't flash a Rom and totally go back to stock for warranty then it ruins the fun

Moto X vs N5

So I have a few days left to return my moto x and have some questions for you guys. How is battery? I've seen it take hits from different sites. I average about 3-31/2 hrs screen on time with my X. How is the camera? Any input is helpful. Thanks.

I love my nexus 5 ! I would not trade any phone even for the new s5 that's going to come out. The development is amazing and the devs are very knowledgeable. As for the battery I get about 3-4 hour screen time. I usually take it out it the charger around 7am and it lasts me till 10 pm with medium to heavy use. The camera is also good I believe there was a comparison between the Nexus 5 and the Samsung S4http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-6AszlQIIs. I have never owned a moto x so I really can't tell you if the camera is better.

I have both in possession. Which is better?
The only thing that makes the X better is ergonomic design, the customization, always listening feature, Active display and the screen is better in most ways(IMO).
The nexus 5 wins in all the other departments, even the battery. If you do get an NX5 unlock the bootloader as soon as it's out of the box. Huge pay off

I meant to post this here in this thread
I don't have this phone yet, but I will be getting it in the mail Monday. I am coming from a Moto X, which is a great device. I love the phone overall. But two gripes I have is the development for the phone and the fact that it's "wannabe stock"
I want the N5 because of the ROM support. Its outstanding. I'm used to the Note 2, S4, HTC One, and when you have Roms on there, there's not a major difference. The AOSP Roms are always buggy. With the N5, your going to have a phone that was made to he tinkered with. Most apps that are made to replace something (lockscreens, launchers, etc) were made for fitting a stock android (N5) experience.
I am excited about this phone because its been a while since I've rooted a phone. Its an addiction that has been cured with VZWs S4 and HTC One, but The relapse is far more exciting then sticking with stuff almost out of the box

Might trade for G2

So I have the G2 and I have a buddy of mine offering to trade it for a 32GB N5. While I know that its basically the same phone I am more encouraged to simply because I feel that the N5 is more future proof.
Am I wrong for this ? Or should I keep it.

The hardware changes include: larger speaker grills and sturdier buttons. Get the version with the newest hardware. You can tell if it's the newer version if the phone's first three serial numbers are above 311 (312, etc).
There's also another way by looking at the HW Version in the fastboot mode. REV_12 or higher should all have the latest hardware revisions.
Fyi, the G2's base cost (~$669.00 unlocked on ebay) is much greater than the Nexus' base cost ($400 unlocked off the play store). Keep that in mind before trading.
The G2 has a better camera and battery.
I almost got one but found a good deal on a Nexus 5.

If you don't care much about development and timely/official updates from google then I'd say stick with the G2.

What he said. If you want the newest device, wait a month for it to be released. If you want the Nexus 5, wait a month for the price to go down. It'd be silly to buy last year's model at full price today when you can get it a month from now at a substantially reduced price.
All in all, still a very good phone. But will be a better deal after the N6 release and the "expected" price drop.

No one can guarantee there will be a price drop. And if there was as with the N4, didn't the stock dry up within a couple days? Not exactly something to set your schedule for IMO.
