My phone is due upgrade next week so been looking at what's about currently...
Really unsure what to go for but possibly thinking the Z5... What do people think? Any other suggestions?

Xperia Z5 seems to be a really good option and seems to beat N5X in almost every department.
But if I were you I would still go for N5X. The UI fluidity and development offered on Nexus lineup is unbeatable.
Also for a poweruser the revised 810 chipset might suffer heating issues but 808 chipset has absolutely no complaints yet.

See... I love the spec of the Z5 but there's a lot of bad reviews about for its camera, which is supposed to be one of its main features! I don't play games on my phone so heat would never be an issue regardless.
But the 5X doesn't really seem much of an upgrade from the 5 from what I'm seeing. But i do love my Nexus 5 on how fast it always is

I totally agree with 5X not seeming to be that huge an upgrade. But if Z5 suffers from bad camera then that defies the primary reason to switch to Xperia. So why not consider a different option altogether OnePlus Two?
(IMHO I wouldn't switch to OP2 but it's a good phone from what I hear)
I would keep N5 till thanksgiving or later till I get a good deal on N6P. Hopefully by that time N6P reviews would shed light on how its metal body holds up with the 810.

Wasn't the z5 ranked best mobile camera? I thought it had a great camera.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Free mobile app
It does, however, first batch of production suffers from a manufacturing flaw whereby the left edge of photos is blurred out compared to the right edge. Once this is corrected, it will be a fantastic camera. I'm really hoping my second Z5C doesn't have the camera issue, just sent my first one back for an exchange.

Does this apply to the z5 not the z5c as well? Also I think the op was referring to the full sized version. But thanks for the heads up!

Yes. Both. There are reports from users on these forums with the regular Z5 with the problem.
I wouldn't want the OP2 cus it's poo cm based
Think it's worth waiting for a newer version of the Z5? Think they'll make one or it'll just be software update?

I'm sure it'll be fixed, it's just a question of how long. It's worth noting that not everyone's Z5s have the issue, it's not affecting all units, just some of them (it's a lottery currently).
It's like there's currently no phones out there worth actually upgrading to. Seems to be more and more bad reviews on the Z5 which is such a shame

I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

No defects, no light bleed, tight power button, tight volume button.
Perfect.

no mine is fine. 32gb white everything is tight and beautiful display none of the "bleeding" or whatever shananagins that is allegedly going on.
Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

Mine works perfectly. But sadly I'm returning it. At&t (straight talk) had better signal yet there is no LTE. I'll be sticking with Verizon. Signal is not as strong but I get LTE in 90% of places.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

How fast is the speed on straight talk?
Even on HSPA+ I get 16 down with the nexus 5, which is more than enough for anything I personally do on a phone. Including streaming movies.

So because you didn't have any issues that means the thousands of other phones out there never had any? Yes that's intelligent logic.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.

Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to

Not to be rude but you should of already known that everyone on this side of the forum will say "of course you made the right decision" and the Z1 side will more than likely oppose.
I never played with the Z1 but the main highlights of the Nexus 5 is the affordable price for pretty decent specs, speedy updates from google and Dev support! Hopefully you'll enjoy your new purchase/trade.

I agree with OuncE, but so you have some opinion on the matter... i came from the Z and the Z1s, after that. If the z1s had an unlockable boot loader and was slightly cheaper, i probably would have kept it, but Ultimately the price, customizability and mostly comparable specs pulled me to the nexus.
USB otg has been a decent help with expanding the storage capacity, and custom kernels have great battery saving options. Beyond that, the Dev community and timely official updates make this phone pretty worth while, but that's just my opinion.
A parting piece of advice: you'll enjoy this phone more if you focus on what it can offer than if you focus on what it lacks.

I would normally agree with the sentiment shared.
Though the nexus forums seen to tolerate G2 owners running in most threads knocking/comparing their choice to the N5.
This I've never saw in any other xda forum but this one. Just about makes me want to find another forum.
On topic, I think you did OK with your trade, might be a lesser costing phone, but the experience of plain android makes up for options imo.

You tell us if you made the right move.
We say yes because we all own the phone.
I would have kept the Z1. That phone makes me drool.
So I have the G2 and I have a buddy of mine offering to trade it for a 32GB N5. While I know that its basically the same phone I am more encouraged to simply because I feel that the N5 is more future proof.
Am I wrong for this ? Or should I keep it.

You should change the title to "Might Trade for the Nexus 5".
And to answer your question, yes the Nexus 5 should be more future proof than the G2.

The hardware changes include: larger speaker grills and sturdier buttons. Get the version with the newest hardware. You can tell if it's the newer version if the phone's first three serial numbers are above 311 (312, etc).
There's also another way by looking at the HW Version in the fastboot mode. REV_12 or higher should all have the latest hardware revisions.
Fyi, the G2's base cost (~$669.00 unlocked on ebay) is much greater than the Nexus' base cost ($400 unlocked off the play store). Keep that in mind before trading.
The G2 has a better camera and battery.
I almost got one but found a good deal on a Nexus 5.

I personally would go with the Nexus 5 because of official software updates and the day development community that continues to grow!
If you don't care much about development and timely/official updates from google then I'd say stick with the G2.

Hi folks I am considering buying a nexus 5. Currently have a moto X and I'm happy with it. However I missed the stock Android and Nexus experience. They're all kinds of pros and cons with this phone as you all know. I guess after all this time, do you think the phone is still worth purchasing? Main reason being is the next Nexus is a matter of months away. What would you owners say? Thanks.

As Midnight_Rider Put It... In A Matter Of 6 Months... I Just Used My Jump Upgrade and Went From A HTC One M7 > Note 3 > iPhone 5s Gold (Worst Decision I Ever Made In The Handset Division... The IPad Is Cool But Not The Phone) and Now I Have The Nexus 5...

Minus the Nexus S As I Wasn't On Sucky Sprint But Now That I Have the Nexus 5...
