I got the new Samsung Gear Sport and apparently it doesn't realize I'm wearing it due to the bone in my wrist or the tattoo I have. Is there any app that I can side-load or find in the gear store that will trick it into thinking its being worn?
That's... Odd. There's a chance that your watch is defective, it might be good to see if you can exchange it or have it sent out for warranty if you try it on your other wrist and it still doesn't work. What if you move it a little higher up? Is there any situation you've been able to get it to think it's being worn?
Lastly, what symptoms is your watch experiencing that makes you think it doesn't realize it's worn? I can use my watch when holding it in my hand.
It works on the other wrist just fine, it works just fine further up the arm....it's the tattoo. The only thing that is bothering me is no always on display because it thinks I'm not wearing it. It won't read my blood pressure which I could care less about.
My Zen watch 2 would still show always on display when it wasn't on my wrist... Why don't companies actually quality control test stuff properly anymore? =(
So, I found an article about someone getting theirs to work with a reflective material. Bent washer + $5 chrome skull sticker, and electrical tape = win.
Watch always thinks it is being worn. Doesn't read heart rate but don't need that.

Nice. Seems like you can still look at older messages which I wasn't aware of before.
I don't seem to see if all of my phones notifications will show up. Ex Gmail /Voice mail / Google Voice and if I get an MMS it seems I have to goto phone.
From the manual "Do not allow water to contact the touch screen. The touch screen may malfunction
in humid conditions or when exposed to water."
The issue I have with the watch is that you can use it like a watch and wear it when washing your hands as you will be concern of getting the screen wet. Also if your out in the rain then you have to attempt to protect it from the rain just as you do with your phone. I like having a watch that is water resistant, do not get me wrong I like the watch and would like to get one but I do not want to have to worry so much about water and the screen.
I'm pretty sure they mean during interactions. Meaning the moisture will make your watch act all crazy thinking it's your finger.
Reading in another thread the notifications system is half assed. For ex a Gmail message comes in and all it says is check phone. No details about subject or sender.
I hope that's wrong but given the complete lack of active show and tell during IFA it seems like they may have been covering up the fact the notifications are almost pointless.
If test look like the same for me like at this vid (>10post ;/ just post it on yt Sony Xperia Z3 common waterproofing defect in wrist strap hole) it mean i have untight xperia z3 ? If yes what i can do then? should i send it to service? (i don't put my phone to the water yet) 988->995 and slowly falling to 998 (with same preasure)

The fact that some freak thinks he can use a barometer to prove that his phone isn't waterproof doesn't make this a "common defect". I know nothing about physics, still I promise you that this test has zero meaning.
Now you can wait until you get some responses like "I would be worried, better send it in" and then you can wait some month to get the same phone back, or you just relax and use your phone. Good luck.

It actually has a perfect physics explanation and not just Voodoo science. The barometer is a pressure sensor inside your phone and is very sensitive. If you put external pressure on your phone, either because of weather change, altitude change, or putting it in a pressure chamber, the sensor will read that change. When you press on the screen (gently) with some flaps open you won't see any change in pressure (the air that is "squeezed" by your pressing on the screen has a way out). If you close the flaps and the phone is water / air tight, then even a small pressure on the screen can "squeeze" the air inside, effectively increasing the pressure reading. You can try it with your phone and you'll see the difference.
In terms of using the phone vs returning, that depends if you plan to use it underwater or not. If the phone is not perfectly water tight it would still be usable under wet conditions, but going for a swim with the phone is highly likely to result in a dead phone. Before you say something like "why would you swim with your phone", it's a personal choice. Swimming with the phone is part of Sony's advertising and spec, so the phone should handle it.

Meaning: no phone that is not waterproof (airtight) can use a barometer. Bad news for iPhone six and dozens of android devices and their owners. Right?
I'd like to know if this is just a new device panic trend like bend gate
I tried the barometer test and I can cover the lanyard hole and see the same results. Number rises and if the hole isn't covered by my finger the number drops back down.
Pretty bummed if it's really a defect. I don't want to have to pay 175$ to t-mobile because an advertised feature is broken..
Was looking forward to swimming and submerging my xperia for the past 2 months.. Haven't even had the phone for a full week

Evening all.
I'm returning my Frontier due to a build quality issue with the bezel. Can anyone else confirm if there's is like the one in the below video I just threw together. I ordered a S3 Classic to compare, as I didn't think it felt correct and sure enough the classic feels really solid, has a distinct click feeling when it rotates which my frontier doesn't. Would love to know what yours is like? You'll need the sound up.
https://youtu.be/dqmSd3CnrKA
Quite liking the look of the classic and might keep it instead.
Yep, mine is like that. Doesn't bother me at all. It's just a little play i the bezel.
If it gets worse, then it may become an issue, but as it is, it's not an issue at all. Still works, still has solid clicks as it's rotated.
Thanks for the feedback I'm not able to live with it. Keeps bugging me. Even more that the classic I ordered doesn't do it.
Yep, mine is like that. I even wrote a post a few days ago here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70033732&postcount=12
From what I understand and asked around, most of them are like that but of course, there are some exceptions, with a Frontier that behaves like your Classic.
Because there are so many, basically I don't have any guarantee that the next will be ok (or if it is ok at first, that it will stay ok -- mine was silent like your Classic and in 4 days became a Frontier, so to speak ...) and I rather avoid all the hassle returning the watch for now and wait to see if a visit in service is really needed.
I asked in a Samsung service and they said that if is a problem with the bezel, they change the entire body (minus the bottom part) because the bezel itself is not replaceable.

Thanks for the info. I've already returned the Frontier so will see what Samsung say about it. Still undecided about the classic but there is no stock of the frontier so I wouldn't get a replacement until Mid Jan from what I've been told, so thought I'd give the classic a try on the 14 day return option. I do like the feel and look but still think I preferred the Frontier as I'm using it mostly as a sports watch.
I returned my Classic because of as screen issue, and the new Classic's bezel also has a little play on and clicks, just like the old one (or maybe a bit more). Although it is annoying, probably no point in returning in hope for getting one which fits perfectly. Let's see how they work over the time.
I wanted to swap it for a silent one but then decided to stop bothering. It's my watch now until a smaller Fenix 4 comes out or a better Gear...
Thinking of getting the dex, but want to make sure that I dont have to remove the case every time I dock it.
Thank you
I just think taking it out of the cases every time you want to dock it would get really old really fast.

I have to take mine off even with a thin case. If I don't it doesn't connect.
damn, that's what I was afraid off. So many accessories have this issue. Its like people dont realize that the vast majority of fols like to protect their $800 phone. lol. Oh well.
Thanks for the reply man!
I remember my first mobile. It was a nokia in 1995. In this time the display was so small you did not think about a case or a screen protector. And i have to admit i miss this careless time. A mobile was still a object you could drop a hunderd times without risking to brick the mobile. Today we need this and that to protect our mobiles and still they shatter and go broke.

You are right! I remember when phones reached 4 inches and people were acting like that was so big that they would never ever carrying one that size. Now they are over 6 inches and non one says much about that. you definitely have to have a screen protector, a case, car charger, multiple wall chargers... the list goes on. It is crazy to see how far "phones" have come. Star Trek never even guessed we would have such miracle devices in our pockets. I love having pc, camera, video camera, gps, music player, personal secretarial assistant, alarm clock, wifi hot spot, video game player, flashlight, library with thousands of books in it,... the list goes on.
It is just the most amazing piece of technology, but it is fragile. I am glad that finally started making them water proof. Now to make the batteries last for days and make them truly shatter/ scratch proof. but it is also sweet to have a device like the dex station to turn you phone into an actual desktop pc. Just awesome. all it really is the same thing the Nintendo switch has with it's dock, but I"m glad they started innovating like this. It is a great time to be alive, that's for sure!
All - My S3 got wet and went into a bootloop. I sent it to Samsung and they sent it back without fixing it claiming that it was too expensive to fix. It is up to me to fix it myself.
I managed to resolve the bootloop problem by opening it up and letting it air out. (see other thread for details)
Question - the only problem I have now is that when I rotate the bezel, it doesn't register anything on the watch. The connector/ sensor seems to be dead.
Anyone know how I could fix this? Do I need a new entire display unit (Samsung Gear S3 frontier (SM-R760) Display unit complete grey GH97-19658A) or is there something else I should try? A part to replace?
I did take off the bezel and I cleaned it. (did it very carefully as there are pieces that can be easily lost)
The watch works well and I can do almost everything without the bezel working but would like to get it working to 100%.
Thanks for any ideas people may have.
Same problem
same problem on my Galaxy Watch. Any update on how to fix?

I took mine apart again hoping I could get the bezel to work but no luck.
I assume the sensor connects to the top part of the watch. There are two connecters that attach to the main part of the watch, a big one and a much smaller one. Perhaps the smaller connector is the problem.
Not a super big deal but I would love to get my watch working at 100%.
Any Samsung techs with an idea?
I figured out that my problem was just that I was wearing a watch band with a magnetic clasp. If the magnet was too close to the watch, but bezel wouldn't work. If I switched bands everything was fine.

You sneaky son of a gun. That worked.
For what it's worth: the bezel sensor is a set of 3 hall effect sensors. If you take the bezel ring off the watch (various youtube guides show how) and look at the underside, you'll see 24 indents and 8 of these (1 in 3) will be a different color. If your watch isn't registering anything, these magnetic spots may be de-magnetized.
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Watch+Teardown/117519 <-- explained here (see step 15 ... and if you look closely at the bottom right of step 8 first picture you can see the 3 hall effect sensors in place)
On my watch it sometimes didn't register the bezel turning. I thought it might just be gummed up. I eventually noticed that it would miss 3 "clicks" in every rotation.
Now I finally understand why: one (only one of eight magnets) has become de-magnetized and the hall effect sensor won't read it as it passes across.
Now I just need to work out how to re-magnetize the one spot.
