Internet issues intermittently. Unable to conclude any reason - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So from past month or so i am facing the issue with my internet connectivity. For few apps my internet works totally fine but for others it just doesn't seem to work. I have tried flashing new roms, changing the radio as well but it never works properly. I have also tried inserting my sim card in other phone and internet works just fine. Now i am out of options what might be the issue. Is it a hardware issue and if it is what should I look for

Does your wifi work? How about gps? Are you comfortable disassembling the phone? Inside there is an antenna wire that run along the right side (when looking at it with the back removed. They travel down from the mainboard to the board on the bottom, on the inside of the housing, but you are able to see the wire connecting to the bottom board of the phone, it shouldn't normally be popped off, or very possible considering there is a backplate that covers it, but you never know.
If you're not comfortable with phone repair, you probably shouldn't attempt it.
Edit: I mistakenly said there were two antenna wires

My wifi & gps both works fine. Even if i start a hotspot my internet works with good speed. The only issue is when i access internet via sim card, I can't even do a google search but few apps still manages to work and that's really confusing for me. Yeah i am not comfortable opening it up , so i might visit some vendor who can fix this but if it can be fixed via some tool i would be glad.

If you're not comfortable with the surgery, I would suggest flashing the phone back to stock. Like day 1 rom, before oxygen OS.

seems like its not hardware issue if some apps manages to access the internet.

Have you got Root Access with TWRP installed. If not there are many guides here that show you.
What ROM & version are you using?
Sometimes ROM builds get corrupted.
Flash newer firmware this should take care of internet drop outs.
Here a couple for you to try when flashing the zip files through TWRP:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347825946
Or:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24389512218018449
Remember to wipe cache before flashing one of these. Then wipe cache again after.
If one doesn't solve the issues. Try the other one.

Yes i do have root and currently i am on Sultan CM13 Rom. I was using stock without root when i faced the problem first time and then i decided to flash some other Rom thinking it might fix the issue. But it didn't. I don't know if flashing back to stock or some other ROM will work or not, but i will give it a try anyway

[Q] No service - Mobile Data greyed out on Settings

My Sensation was acting up and getting slow (probably because of all the apps I had installed) so I decided to do a factory reset and after rebooting the phone, I was no longer getting service/signal. Also, when I got into Settings, the Mobile Data is greyed out and cannot be toggled. Basically I have a phone right now that doesn't work and I need help. I found something saying may have something to do with the contact points on the back cover but they're all fine when I checked.
My phone right now as it is:
S-off, Android 2.3.4, Sense 3.0 = pretty much stock
If anybody knows a fix for this please help or if there is an existing thread already, a link to that would be nice.
Thank all for checking this issue and for you future any help you can give me. I'd appreciate them.

try rebooting to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. If that doesnt work reflash your rom.
No luck still
I followed what you said but the problem still persists. This really sucks. I'm back to my nokia N8 for the mean time. I miss my android already.
This happened to me when I was flashing a rom. I ended up trying everything but my apn settings were always greyed out and I would get no service as well. I had to wipe all data and perform a factory reset. Then after then reflashed my rom and checked my apn settings to see if I could access them, and when I was able to, I knew I was good.

Sad to say, I've done that as well. I tried flashing different roms and tried a different radio also but none of these fixed the problem. At this point I'm all back to stock ROM and radio and pretty much waiting for a suggestion that I haven't tried. I appreciate the help.

Make sure you are on a stock kernel as well. And if you reverted back to your stock setup, then the ril should correspond to your radio. Check the ril/radio combo and also make sure your kernel is stock as well.
I'm having the same issue. I've reverted everything back to stock (unrooted, original CID, S-On) and gotten a new SIM card (T-Mobile). I've tried different Radios w/ matching RILs, different ROMs, adjusting APN settings, everything that I can think of, but I can't restore mobile network connectivity (cellular service & data). At this point, I'm beginning to think it is a hardware fault, but I really have nothing to back it up except for the fact that *nothing* else solves my problem. I've even used the dialer code to toggle the radio on and off, with & without ciphering. About to pull my hair out and pay for HTC to replace the mainboard. Any other suggestions are welcome.
I agree with you, this may well be a hardware issue. I finally gave up and went to T-Mo to arrange a handset exchange. I was sure that there has got to be somebody else with the same issue and here you are. If this is software-related though, I could say that I have tried everything I could think of, along with a few suggestions that I got but I haven't had luck with this bad boy. But yeah, it's got to be hardware-related. My reason, you know when you don't have a sim card in? When you go into settings, the "Mobile Networks" where you can adjust the APN settings is greyed out (missing sim card = hardware). Now, as for the "Mobile Network" toggle that is greyed out, that could mean antenna issues maybe since no antenna = no signal? In that case, there is nothing to toggle. I've been having almost sleepless nights with this. LOL
Have you checked the APN settings... Not sure that it would grey out the option but should definitely be checked
Here's something that will mess with your head. The reason I believe it's is *not* the sim-reader is because if I go into Phone Info, under Phone Identity, I can read my phone number off the sim card. I can also read contacts & messages stored on that card. So the phone *is* communicating with the SIM chip... It just won't communicate with the network. If the antenna wasn't built into the battery covery, I would be tempted to believe that the antenna was disconnected from the board internally. Then again, I get wifi, bluetooth, & GPS just fine. Who knows?
Yes, I have checked and APN settings and even used something from an HTC tech but it didn't work.
I had this same issue with a Sensation I got off Craigslist, the mobile data was grayed out and no matter what I do it didn't work.
End up sending to HTC and they fix it under warranty, they go my serial number so I wan't required to have a receipt when the phone was sent.
If all hope is lost, you can send it back for repairs like i did.
Wipe system from recovery?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
@cmarti
Did they ever say what was wrong with it? Was it hardware or software related? I talk to HTC about repairs already and I have the details on how to proceed but like you said, that would be the last resort. I was able to arrange a handset exchange from t-mobile and I have this entire week to wait for any development on that matter. I just sucks though that we don't know what is really wrong and I'm sure there are more users out there having or have had the same issue and are still left in the dark.
@mintaeroboy
I have done what you suggested already and that didn't fix the issue. Thanks.
Do u have a system backup u can restore?
Yes, I do. I have the stock as my very first backup and I restored using it but the problem is still there.
weird, did u try pull & put the sim card back in? or go to a tmob store & have them replace the sim card...
Did you try downloading the RUU and flashing the complete stock ROM that way? Download the 1.45 RUU for TMOUS (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13698101&postcount=1) and run the program. It restores everything to right out of the factory, but it's different than restoring a backup or doing a factory reset. This re-partitions everything and resets the bootloader security. Don't worry, the s-off tool from revolution still works if you flash the RUU. I know because I did it myself
Hope this works for you. It's a better option to try before you send it off to HTC.
Let me know what happens.

Yes I did. I don't think it is the sim card though because I put mine back to my nokia n8 and it worked. I also borrowed my niece's and put it in the Sensation but could not get a signal, just like how it is with mine. For these reasons, I ruled out the sim card being the suspect.

Yes Jimmah, I did that last night using the exact RUU you suggested and no luck of a resolution still. Kernel, radio, rom, ril, etc are all just like new from factory and still scratching my head, in fact for a few days now. hahaha

Cannot Connect to AT&T Network (Neither Voice Nor Data)

For some reason I cannot connect to AT&T's network for voice/data. I had been running MIUI for about 3 months and all was good. I came back from a trip Thursday and the phone wouldn't find a network after turning off airplane mode, but rebooting seemed to fix it. However, today I cannot get it to connect at all.
I have tried:
Wiping cache/davlik cache
Fixing permissions
Tried searching for a network operator through settings->mobile network->network operators, got nothing
Wiping user data and switching to ZEUS Build 6
Tried searching for a network operator again
Went back to 100% stock with GTG's Ultimate Unbrick
Still nothing for network operator under "Available networks" (Default setup is greyed out)
I'm going to guess either my SIM or 3G chip burned out? I was using the phone heavily the past few days with a ton of GPS stuff to get around Atlanta and it did get pretty hot on the car dash. I'll try taking it to an AT&T store tomorrow (ugh) but am open to any suggestions before I do so .
There are a few options I would consider:
1. Go to the apn and set up a new apn and save it. Select it and then reboot. There are a few floating around. Check my how to thread in the q/a. I posted one there. Make sure you create one and then save it.
2. Try flashing a different modem.
3. Take out the external micro sd. Back up your stuff from the internal sdcard. Factory reset from in the ROM. Warning: a factory reset from within the ROM will erase EVERYTHING, including pictures. Make sure you save everything first. Reboot. And if that doesn't work, odin with a re partition pit file or use one of the heimdall 1-click and then do a reset again.
4. Possibly remove the Sim and clean it. I've heard the Sim socket is very fragile and breaks easily. Use caution. You can always have the att guys do it and let them break it.
Gl
he said he did try flashing another rom and odining back to stock. if that doesnt work, nothing will. hopefully you still have a warranty.
Already restored to stock (and again from within the stock rom)... Forgot about my pictures :crying:
Tried I997UCKL2 and I997UCLB3 modems, with and without custom APNs.
Tried cleaning the SIM
Funnily enough I do get service bars (4/5) after the phone has been on for about a minute, but no HSPA+ icon and still can't make calls/MMS/internet (calls are about 5s of silence followed by an abbreviated dialing tone, then "Call Ended"). Yup, I think it's borked... Guess it's time for an S3! Thanks for the help though.

Sorry to hear about your pictures. I tried to warn you.
The last thing i can think of is to leave your battery out overnight. And then put it back tomorrow.
It sounds like it's hardware related though.
(Different ROM like miui and zeus have their own custom build.prop ril settings and apn. These potentially can mess with your phone connection if the partition messes up.
I wanted to make sure it was not a partition screw up. A double flash in heimdall uckj4 or uclb3 with boot loader checked or one of the Odin un-brick using a pit file would have clear this. Sounded like you did this already. Another user have reported clearing their efs in odin. I would only try this if you have backed up your efs position, either in root explorer or zen tool kit.)
Again, sounds like hw...

Well when I transferred my sim to my old dumb phone I left my Infuse off (about 3 hours). I just tried it again for kicks and miraculously it works perfectly now! Now I get to reinstall everything again (yay...), but I'm wondering if my sim slot is on its way out or something... Not sure why it would suddenly start working again.
Oh well, time to try out Zeus (MIUI was a little too buggy for me).
Thanks again all... hopefully it doesn't die on me again!

Good to hear.
If it starts to act wonky again, try a different battery. It is possible the heat you described may have damage the lithium cell. Idk..
Ebay has them for about $4 free shipping. Look for a usa shipper...2-4 days
For some reason this happens to me sometimes. I'm unsure myself. What I do to fix it is turn data on and off and then reboot. I do that a few times and then it starts working.

So after three different roms, several factory wipes, and all sorts of voodoo magic, it was a bad sim card.
Shame... I kinda wanted an S3 .

well it's was fun, but i give up..

i've tried to re-flash the rom with the T699UVBMC5_T699TMBBMC5_T699UVBMC5_HOME.tar.md5 and although it seemed to working fine, (internet access etc.) i just can't dial with it anymore (while i can do that with another phone with the same sim) , add to that, the strange wifi connectivity issue i've been getting (as in hopping back and forth between roaming data and my access point) , the sluggish behavior i keep getting along with the extended battery reaching 45 deg Celsius (might be all the bloatware i couldn't remove), and now i can't even find another one (unlocked) in ebay.
just too much, the glide i have still works well sort of..

eventually i ended up upgrading use kies, that solved the issue with wi-fi (well sort of, i noticed that at least at home, i somtimes see BOTH wifi and 4g icon, like it can't decide which network to use) ,and still able to dial .
so now i have an operational phone, and back to square 2, meaning how can i root with a CWM that blocks all files with signature verification failure.

Nexus 5 stuck on "Turning wifi on"

Hello all, my old Nexus 5's wifi stopped working back in January for no apparent reason. Everytime I tried turning it on for some strange reason it just Grey's out. The MAC Address is also really weird. I tried looking for a solution but to no avail. I'm starting to think that it's a hardware issue. These are what I've done so far for the past 4 months or so:
- rebooted the phone
- wiped the cache
- wiped data using TWRP
- letting the battery drain and charging it again after a couple weeks
- smacking the back side on my hand (lightly of course)
Any help would be much appreciated. Also, it's not my primary phone anymore so I can't tell whether cellular connection would be working or not.
Just did a factory reset and wiped everything, still nothing. MAC Address is just a solid 2.00.000.00. Also, Bluetooth still works.
Try running a stock 4.4 or 5.01 rom. If the problem still exists, I'd say it's a hardware issue.

Hmm, I had a similar problem few months ago, tried flashing the latest stock firmware; didn't help and then moved back to a custom ROM. Strangely, it didn't work at that time too but kept the phone the same for an hour and out of nowhere it started working. Seems like the phone is really dying now.

Still doesn't work for me. I'm gonna try taking apart the phone to see if the wifi chip is ok, hopefully it's not a hardware issue.
Same problem here, even on custom ROMs and factory images,
Is there any hardware solution? Maybe an external WiFi antenna or something like that?

Not that I know of unfortunately. Guess we'll have to buy a new Mobo for the phone
Hi guys! Since today I hopped on the "activating wifi" train too!
I'm on Lineage 14.1 CAF, and did a full wipe and flash, no changes.
I followed a guide in a post here on XDA to recreate the MAC address file, after that wifi worked for a couple of minutes, then went down again.
I thought about flashing MM stock image, but after reading your posts I think i'll keep my phone this way until I buy an OP6.
Luckily I have 15Gb of cellular data
What I did was I opened the phone and took out the motherboard and disconnected the battery from everything, then took out the heatsink that's on top of the wifi chip. It worked for a bit then it stopped working for good. It definitely has to be a software issue because Bluetooth is working fine.
It could be a hardware problem. I have two Nexus 5 motherboards where the wifi tries to turn on and, eventually, the slider goes back to the off position.

No sim error and no wifi

Hi, for some reason my wife's U11 just decided to stop working - but only the sim and wifi. The no sim message shows and wifi won't turn on. I've reset network settings and have gone as far as a complete factory reset to no avail. It seems to me to be a hardware issue, so I'd like to know if there is anything else I might be able to try? I'm out of ideas, and if it truly is a hardware fault, then that kinda sucks, but oh well. It was a nice phone while it lasted...
I should add that bluetooth still works.

This is starting to get interesting. If you have any updates, please let us know.
I've managed to downgrade it now to Android 8.0. Same issue.
I don't want to believe that this is a hardware fault. But it really seems to be...
Maybe its the antenna? I don't know. MAybe I'm going to root it and flash a custom rom and Wifi repair app.
But It really think there's an hardware defect for now..

That's super interesting to me. Do you know when it happened to you? It really feels quite coincidental to have this happen to a few people.
It happened just 2-3 month ago. First I wasn't able to turn the phone on cause of the WLAN issue. Cause my phone space was locked I wasn't able to authorize myself cause of the disabled connection. After a few tries I put my Sim card inside the phone, and it connected and I could authorize and disable this memory lock. But afterwards it never worked again with my sim card. It seems like it wouldn't even recognize my Sim Card. No Pin question or symbol at the upper front of the display. Nothing. It's really werid and annoying, that something like this happens. I can't believe that it's hardware related.. How would it be possilbe that it's hardawrare related and whe have suddenly the same problems nearly the same time...
I should note that my wife has had her screen replaced before (she dropped the phone and it basically cracked all over). Have you replaced yours?
Yes I replaced mine too. But nevermind I had that issues before. My phone ran all well with cracked screen and one day I had that issues... So I changed my screen in the hope it would fix it.

I'm wondering if it will be a more widespread problem. I'm going to try and get in touch with HTC and see what they have to say. Will update if I hear back from them.
Okay, that would be great. But I don't have high expectations that they'll answer. Due to the fact that they have stopped there smartphone section for now and no more official updates and stuff like that.
But let's hope die at least...
I have exactly the same issue. It happened yesterday. It was just there, sitting on my desk, one minute it was working and I was checking my e-mail, the next one it was not. The phone now detects no SIM card and if I try to enable wi-fi it just hangs in "enabling" status for some time until it gives up and disables it again. I am not 100% sure, but I think I also had a short time in which wifi was no longer working and the SIM connection still was, I remember seeing the 4G logo and maybe I even browsed the internet for a short while. By the way, I have not replaced my screen. Now I know that I can probably spare myself the hassle of doing a hard reset.
It is really suspicious that this weird problem is happening to several people within a short time frame. It would be cool to hear if HTC has anything to say, but I am also not expecting anything from them now, especially for a phone which is out of warranty.
In case it can help, as the author reported, bluetooth still works and it is possible to connect the phone to the internet using bluetooth tethering on another phone (the good old M8 helped here ). This doesn't solve the issue, but is much better than nothing, most apps will work and it is easier to make a controlled migration to another phone.
Any news here?
Same issue here!!! Help!!!

Same issue here!!! Help!!!
I have the same issue with a U11+ bought in Germany (I know, other model but hey). I have tried using the other sim slot and using another (definitely working) sim. WiFi doesn't work either. My phone has no visible damage (not even scratches) and no parts were replaced. I can't remember it ever getting wet either. For me it stopped working on 2. of September.
Sorry guys. HTC were really slack at getting back to me, and unfortunately they want me to send the phone in to get it inspected. I know it's out of warranty and since my wife is well and truly into her Huawei P30, this phone is unfortunately going to just have to remain this way. Sorry for not having any better info.
The same issue I am facing now. No SIM CARD Detected and WiFi isn't connecting.
What things I have tried doing so far?
1.) Factory Reset - 3 times.
2.) TWRP Based RUU Restores ( 2 possible versions tried )
3.) Tried Restoring zip based restore
4.) Did a Full Internal + External SD Card Wipe and then flashed RUU.
5.) Restored stock ROM.
Nothing is working at all.
Now, Trying to do S-OFF but as the phone itself is not booting into a normal OS, I cannot install Sunshine app and proceed. Help needed, at least in getting the OS to work.
Thank You.

It seems there's no way without replacing hardware to fix it. But if we don't know what causes this error we cannot proceed.
I tried the same things as you did. Also unlocked bootloader. My device is starting but I cannot proceed to the main menue cause of no internet connection. I'd love to try a custom rom. That's the only thing missing.
Also if the phone is rooted there are WIFI Error fixing apps and check.
I have bought myself a OnePlus 7T pro MClaren edition and I'm really happy with it. But also I don't want to accept that the htc just died from nothing.
Same issue here, happend a few months ago and after a week the phone started working. Now again no SIM detected and wifi won't connect.
